Otrzymane wyniki w postaci stałych Henry'ego porównano z danymi literaturowymi. Zaproponowaną metodę wyznaczania stałej Henry'ego można zastosować do innych lotnych związków organicznych.
Head-space solid phase microextraction method was applied for determination of Henry's law constants of trichloroethene and tetrachloroethene in water solutions. The values of Henry's law constants were compared with literature data. This method can be applied for determination of Henry's law constants of other volatile organic compouds

Opis:
Measurements of hydrogen solubility in various nitrobenzene-aniline mixtures were conducted in an autoclave reactor with a stirrer and control of temperature. The solubility of hydrogen was measured at 7 different values of temperature (30 °C, 40 °C, 50 °C, 90 °C, 130 °C, 170 °C, 210 °C, respectively), 3 values of stirrer rotation speed (1200 rpm, 1600 rpm, 2000 rpm, respectively) and a range of pressure of 20 ‒ 30 bar. Moreover, pure aniline, pure nitrobenzene and their mixtures with different concentrations were used. In the next step, values of Henry’s constant were calculated. Based on experimental data a dependence of Henry’s constant on temperature for pure aniline and pure nitrobenzene was proposed. Additionally, for each temperature correlations between Henry’s constant and aniline’s concentration in mixture of nitrobenzene-aniline were found.

Opis:
Henry James was not a sentimental writer. However, in his later books we can find traces of repressed emotions and melancholy. One of the most intriguing literary documents showing the nostalgic strain in James is his collection The American Scene (1907), a record of the novelist’s return to the USA after a twenty-years-old absence. It contains various manifestations of James’s nostalgia – for example, his memories of New York and his melancholic recollections of the places connected with his youth. Also, it shows James’s convoluted rhetoric of memory as a space of repression and displacement as well as his unwillingness to address these issues in a direct fashion.

The article describes the group of seventeen early English prints from the second half of the 17th century. The prints are part of the collection of the former Preusische Staatsbibliothek in Berlin kept in The Jagiellonian University and contain ayres and religious songs. Fourteen of them were published by John and Henry Playford. The first part of the paper shows the biographies of the publishers and brings the state of research on their work. The second part includes the detailed description of the seventeen of early English prints. The final part presents the content of the prints and biographies of its most important composers.

The central interest of the paper is concentrated on an online production of Henry V in 2020. The project is based on a new Polish translation by Piotr Kamiński and produced by Dariusz Rosiak, a journalist, as one of his regular Reports on the Condition of the World published on YouTube. Realised as a reading performance by three actors in front of an empty row of chairs, the production brings an innovative and revealing interpretation of the play, breaking new ground in the Polish reception of Shakespeare’s histories. The paper offers a brief review of the presence of history plays in Polish reception and introductory information on Rosiak’s YouTube channel and Kamiński’s translation as a background to a critical analysis of the production and its relevance to the here and now of our world.

Henry Swinburne’s Travels through Spain in the Years 1775 and 1776, in which Several Monuments of Roman and Moorish Architecture are illustrated by Accurate Drawings Taken on the Spot, published in print in London in 1787, is one of many examples of interest in Spain in English travel literature evinced mostly by English travellers in the second half of 18th century. Swinburne was a thoroughly educated traveller, exquisite writer and art connoisseur, and his writing focused mainly on descriptions and analysis of ancient architecture and Moorish architectural monuments. Works of Baroque art were left on the margins of his interest. As a representative of the Enlightenment thought he considered these monuments as synonyms of a bad taste. In the article an analysis of the works of Spanish Baroque art – city planning, architecture, sculpture and painting – which were mentioned by Swinburne in his text, has been introduced. Next to the edifices in Seville, Granada, Málaga, Barcelona, royal residences – Palacio Real in Aranjuez and Palacio Real de la Granja de San Ildefonso near Segovia, the most extended is an analysis of architecture in Madrid. Madrid, which reached the rank of a capital city in 1561, was actually a Baroque city, which Swinburne was not enthusiastic about, so he reported that there were not many places worth visiting there. Swinburne was interested also, except for architecture, in collections of sculpture and painting. He named every painter whose works he had seen and noted down the titles worth seeing with his comment. He expressed his admiration not only for the best known Italian, Flemish and French painters, but also for the newly discovered ones, the representatives of a mystic trend in Seville school, among others.

The article is about Henry's law on the solubility of gases in liquids depending on pressure and temperature. Knowing the Henry's constant plays a very important role in the breathing process, for example when you are diving or in the production of sodas. For 200 years, knowledge of gas solubility had saved lives.

Ropa naftowa i gaz ziemny postrzegane są jako bliskie substytuty, co w praktyce sprawia, że ceny tych surowców w długim okresie powinny podlegaæ określonej, stabilnej w czasie relacji. Na podstawie danych historycznych możemy wskazaæ, że stosunek cen ropy naftowej do cen gazu ziemnego kształtował się na poziomie około 10:1. Badania zależności cen ropy naftowej i gazu ziemnego wskazywały na istnienie równowagi między cenami tych surowców w długim okresie (m.in. Kirchene 2002; Brown i Yücel 2007; Shafiee i Topal 2010; Asche i in. 2012; Asche i in. 2013), choć prowadzone przez badaczy weryfikacje empiryczne dotyczyły okresu przed rokiem 2008, po którym obserwowaliśmy niespotykany w latach wcześniejszych wzrost zmienności na rynku ropy naftowej. Możemy zauważyć, że nagły wzrost cen ropy naftowej począwszy od 2009 roku sprawił, iż stosunek cen tego surowca do cen gazu ziemnego wzrósł z 10:1 przeciętnie w latach 2005–2008 aż do 34:1 w 2012 roku. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie czy między cenami gazu ziemnego i ropy naftowej istniała zależność długookresowa w czasie zawirowań na rynku „czarnego złota”. W ramach weryfikacji empirycznej wykorzystano klasyczne narzędzia analizy szeregów czasowych, tj. test stacjonarnooeci ADF oraz analizę kointegracji z wykorzystaniem metod Engle’a–Grangera (1987) oraz Johansena (1988). W dalszej kolejności dokonano wizualizacji stabilności istnienia relacji kointegrującej między zmiennymi przy wykorzystaniu metody Hansena i Johansena (1999). Na podstawie wyników empirycznych możemy przypuszczać, że w czasie wahań cen ropy naftowej z lat 2008–2012 doszło do załamania równowagi między cenami ropy naftowej a gazu ziemnego, ale dopiero w 2009, a nie 2008 roku, gdy ceny ropy naftowej determinował silny trend wzrostowy, który wywindował cenę baryłki do poziomu przekraczającego 140 USD/bbl.
Crude oil and natural gas are recognized as close substitutes, which means that in the long term their prices should be defined by a stable relationship. Historical data indicates that the ratio of the crude oil price to the natural gas price has been set at about 10:1. Previous studies on crude oil and natural gas indicated that a stable, long-term correlation was observed (i.e. Kirchene 2002; Brown, Yücel 2007; Shafiee and Topal 2010; Asche et al. 2012; Asche et al. 2013), but most of these studies were empirically verified in a sample before the year 2008, after which unprecedented volatility in the oil market was observed. As the crude oil price rocketed in 2009, the ratio of the oil price to the natural gas price increased from10:1 on average during the period 2005–2008 to 34:1 in 2012. The inspiration for this paper was to answer the question whether the relationship between crude oil and natural gas prices remained stable during a period of high oil price variability. To verify this hypothesis, time series analyses were employed – stationarity testing with the ADF test, and cointegration analysis with both the Engle–Granger (1987) and Johansen (1988) approaches. The Hansen and Johansen (1999) method was used to visualize the stability of cointegration. According to the results of empirical analysis, it could be argued that during the period from 2008–2012 a break was observed in the equilibrium between the crude oil and natural gas prices, but the moment of the break should be assigned to the year 2009, not 2008, when oil prices rocketed to the historically highest level of 140 USD/bbl.

Problem ukrytości Boga staje się coraz częściej dyskutowanym tematem filozoficznym. W swoim artykule chciałbym zająć się kwestią nazwaną przez Jacka Wojtysiaka (w jego książce Między jawnością a ukryciem) (Wojtysiak 2023) „wiedzą testymonialną” i powiązać ją z Newmanowską koncepcją rozumowania implikatywnego. Odróżnienie od siebie dwóch rodzajów rozumowania — jednego spontanicznego, praktycznego, znajdującego swoje zastosowanie m.in. w obszarze wiary i moralności, oraz drugiego krytycznego, analitycznego i retrospektywnego, używanego w nauce, a także w filozofii i teologii – wydaje mi się kluczowe dla zrozumienia obserwowalnej ukrytości Boga.
The problem of the hiddenness of God is becoming an increasingly discussed philosophical topic. In my article, I would like to deal with the issue called by Jacek Wojtysiak (in his book Między jawnością a ukryciem [Between Hiddenness and Openness]) (Wojtysiak 2023) “testimonial knowledge” and connect it with Newman’s concept of implicit reasoning. Distinguishing between two types of reasoning — one spontaneous, practical, applicable to in the area of faith and morality, and the other: critical, analytical and retrospective, used in science, as well as in philosophy and theology — seems crucial to understanding the factual God’s hiddenness.

Although Amazing Grace has become a popular song associated with the Englishspeaking culture, the notion of GRACE itself remains mysterious and vague. The problem is that being an abstract notion, grace is difficult to understand and describe even for theologians. This problem may be overcome by conceptual metaphors which help us conceptualize and understand the abstract reality [Lakoff, Johnson 2003/1980/; Kövecses 2010/2002/]. John Henry Newman’s Parochial and Plain Sermons [1834- -1843] constitutes a set of eight volumes of sermons preached in the years 1828-1845 in St. Mary’s Church in Oxford by an outstanding Anglican philosopher, theologian, writer, and academic of the Victorian era, who later converted to Roman Catholicism. The article focuses on the cognitive-linguistic aspects of identification and classification of the various conceptual metaphors for GRACE in Newman’s sermons. The metaphors are illustrated with examples of the lexical correlates found in the analyzed material. In his sermons, Newman conceptualizes grace metaphorically either as different kinds of INANIMATE THINGS: A CONTAINER, AN INSTRUMENT or MEANS, A GARMENT, A TREASURE and A GIFT, as A TRADED COMMODITY, A LIQUID, FOOD AND DRINK, and A BUILDING, as A PLANT, or as A PERSON: A KING, AN INHABITANT of a human being or the Church, as AN OPPONENT or ENEMY, as A GUIDE IN A JOURNEY, and as A PARENT. Additionally, GRACE is metaphorically viewed in the studied work as POWER, as A WAY IN A JOURNEY, and as LIGHT.
