This paper is concerned with the rotational motion of the impeller and the thermal buoyancy within a mechanical mixer. The task was investigated numerically using the ANSYS-CFX simulator. The programmer is based on the finite volume method to solve the differential equations of fluid motion and heat transfer. The impeller has hot surfaces while the vessel has cold walls. The rotational movement of the impeller was controlled by the Reynolds number, while the intensity of the thermal buoyancy effect was controlled by the Richardson number. The equations were solved for a steady flow. After analyzing the results of this research, we were able to conclude that there is no effect of the values of Richardson number on the power number. Also, with the presence of the thermal buoyancy effect, the quality of the fluid mixing becomes more important. The increasing Richardson number increases the value of the Nusselt number of the impeller.

The trend of reducing electricity consumption and environmental protection has contributed to the development of refrigeration technologies based on the thermal effect of adsorption. This article proposes a methodology for conducting numerical simulations of the adsorption and desorption processes. Experimental data available in the literature were used as guidelines for building and verifying the model, and the calculations were carried out using commercial computational fluid dynamics software. The simulation results determined the amount of water vapor absorbed by the adsorbent bed and the heat generated during the adsorption process. Throughout the adsorption process, the inlet water vapor velocity, temperature, and pressure in the adsorbent bed were monitored and recorded. The results obtained were consistent with the theory in the literature and will serve as the basis for further, independent experimental studies. The validated model allowed for the analysis of the effect of cooling water temperature on the sorption capacity of the material and the effect of heating water temperature on bed regeneration. The proposed approach can be useful in analyzing adsorption processes in refrigeration applications and designing heat and mass exchangers used in adsorption systems.

Solar air heater is regarded as the most common and popular solar thermal system and has a wide range of applications, from residential to industrial. Solar air heater is not viable because of the low convective heat transfer coefficient at the absorber plate which contributes to decreasing the thermal efficiency. Artificial coarseness on the plain surface is the most effective method to enhance heat transfer with a moderate rate of friction factor of flowing air in the design of solar air heater duct. The different parameters and different artificial coarseness are responsible to alter the flow structure and heat transfer rate. Over the years different artificial roughness and how its geometry affects the performance of solar air heater have been thoroughly studied. Various investigators report the correlations between heat transfer and friction factors. In the present study, a comparison of several artificial coarseness geometries and methods with a view to enhancing the performance of solar air heater has been made. A brief outline has also been presented for future research.

Opis:
Improvement in the exegetic efficiency of a solar air heater (SAH) can be done by enhancing the rate of heat transfer. In this work, the exergetic efficiency optimization of an artificially roughened solar air heater having an inverted L-shape rib has been performed. The numerical analysis of the exergetic performance of the solar air heater was carried out at a constant heat flux of 1000 W/m2 . The study was conducted to investigate the effect of different relative roughness pitch (7.14–17.86) on the exergy losses, under the Reynolds number range of 3000 to 18 000. The roughness parameter of this geometry has been optimized and found to be among functional operating parameters like average solar intensity and temperature rise across the collector. The optimized value of relative roughness pitch is 17.86 at the isolation of 1000 W/m2 , and the parameter of temperature rise ranges from 0.005 to 0.04.

For increasing the efficiency of heat transfer processes, the layer-by-layer concept of arrangement of various types of packings in column apparatuses is considered. The results of hydraulic tests of a dry and irrigated cell packing, as well as individual hydraulic tests of a mesh packing, are presented. Methods and algorithms for solving linear programming problems under “uncertainty” conditions were considered. However, in some areas of science it is often difficult or impossible to formalize the problem in an appropriate way and reduce it to a linear programming problem. In this paper, methods for solving non-linear programming problems with a vector objective function are considered. At present, the use of non-linear programming in the vast majority of real situations is reduced to linear approximation models. Along with this, at a significant non-linearity, due to its specificity or influence on the nature of the model, it is necessary to apply optimization methods that are much more complex than, for example, the simplex method. However, the importance of non-linear programming is constantly increasing. This is due to the rapidly growing knowledge of managers and specialists in the use of mathematical models designed to prepare solutions, as well as the increasing availability of computer programs for solving large-scale nonlinear problems. The analysis and studies of the hydrodynamics of a number of regular packings have shown that cell and mesh packings are promising for the implementation of the phase inversion mode. The proposed concept of intensifying heat transfer processes in column apparatuses is based on the use of layers of various packings arranged in the following order in the apparatus, type 1 – cell, type 2 – mesh. At the same time, their main geometric characteristics differ significantly from each other. However, the structure of the bulk packing is inhomogeneous, which makes it difficult to implement a stable mode of local phase inversion under these conditions. This is due to the structure of column apparatuses with bulk packing, in which there is an increased proportion of pores (porosity) near the walls of the apparatus. Porosity is very significant; it can reach up to 40%, and as a result, the local velocity near the walls exceeds the velocity in the centre of the apparatus by up to 70%. By contrast, the use of regular packing structures makes this potentially highly efficient mode technically possible.
W celu zwiększenia efektywności procesów wymiany ciepła rozważa się koncepcję warstwowego rozmieszczenia różnego rodzaju pakietów w aparatach kolumnowych, warstwa po warstwie. Przedstawiono wyniki badań hydraulicznych suchego i nawodnionego upakowania komórkowego oraz indywidualne badania hydrauliczne upakowania sieciowego. Uwzględniono metody i algorytmy dla rozwiązywania problemów programowania liniowego w warunkach „niepewności”. Jednakże, w niektórych dziedzinach nauki często trudne lub niemożliwe jest sformalizowanie problemu w odpowiedni sposób i zredukowanie go do problemu programowania liniowego. W niniejszym artykule uwzględniono metody rozwiązywania problemów programowania nieliniowego z wektorową funkcją celu. Zastosowanie programowania nieliniowego w znacznej większości rzeczywistych sytuacji jest obecnie zredukowane do modeli aproksymacji liniowej. Wraz z tym, przy znaczącej nieliniowości, ze względu na jej specyfikę lub wpływ na charakter modelu, konieczne jest zastosowanie metod optymizacji, które są o wiele bardziej złożone niż na przykład metoda sympleksów. Jednakże, znaczenie programowania nieliniowego stale rośnie. Wynika to z szybko rosnącej wiedzy kadry zarządzającej i specjalistów od stosowania modeli matematycznych zaprojektowanych do przygotowywania rozwiązań, jak również zwiększającą się dostępnością programów komputerowych do rozwiązywania wielkoskalowych problemów nieliniowych. Analiza i badania hydrodynamiki pewnej liczby upakowań regularnych pokazały, że upakowania komórkowe i sieciowe są obiecujące dla realizacji trybu odwrócenia fazy. Zaproponowana koncepcja zintensyfikowania procesów wymiany ciepła w aparatach kolumnowych oparta jest o zastosowanie warstw różnych upakowań ułożonych w następującej kolejności w aparacie: typ 1 – komórka, typ 2 – sieć. Jednocześnie ich główne cechy geometryczne znacznie różnią się od siebie. Jednakże, struktura upakowania luźnego jest niejednorodna, co utrudnia realizację stabilnego trybu lokalnego odwrócenia fazy w tych warunkach. Jest to spowodowane strukturą aparatów kolumnowych z upakowaniem luźnym, w których blisko ścian aparatu istnieje zwiększony udział porów (porowatość). Porowatość jest bardzo znacząca; może sięgać do 40%, a w efekcie lokalna prędkość blisko ścian przekracza prędkość w środku aparatu o wartość do 70%. Dla odmiany, zastosowanie regularnych struktur upakowania czyni ten potencjalnie wysoce wydajny tryb technicznie możliwym.

In the paper the fractional order, state space model of a temperature field in a two-dimensional metallic surface is addressed. The proposed model is the two dimensional generalization of the one dimensional, fractional order, state space of model of the heat transfer process. It uses fractional derivatives along time and length. The proposed model assures better accuracy with lower order than models using integer order derivatives. Elementary properties of the proposed model are analysed. Theoretical results are experimentally verifed using data from industrial thermal camera.

The present paper describes the experimental analysis of heat transfer and friction factor for glass protected three-side artificially roughened rectangular duct solar air heaters (SAHs) having an arrangement of multiple-v and transverse wires (top wall multi-v and two side walls transverse) under the absorber plate, and compares their performance with that of one-side roughened solar air heaters under similar operating conditions. The investigated three-side solar air heaters are characterized by a larger rate of heat transfer and friction factor as compared to one-side artificially roughened SAHs by 24–76% and 4–36%, respectively, for the identical operating parameters. The air temperature below the three-side rugged duct is by 34.6% higher than that of the one-side roughened duct. Three-side solar air heaters are superior as compared to one-side artificially roughened solar air heaters qualitatively and quantitatively both.

Opis:
Low-emissivity coatings on glass surfaces, inert gas instead of air between glasses, and double-glazed windows are usually used to reduce heat loss from a room through windows. This effect can also be achieved by installing two double-chamber windows in one window opening at a certain distance from each other. This work uses numerical modelling to study the characteristics of heat transfer through a system of two two-chamber windows. The distributions of temperature and airflow velocity due to natural convection in the chambers of double-chamber windows and the space between the windows are analyzed. The distributions of temperatures and heat fluxes over the surfaces of windows are determined depending on the distance between the windows. The dependences on the distance between the windows of radiation, convective, and total heat flow through a system of two double-chamber windows are studied. It is shown that two double-chamber windows located at a certain distance from each other make it possible to increase the heat transfer resistance compared to one two-chamber window without a low-emission coating by 2.6...2.8 times. As the distance between windows increases, a given system's overall heat transfer resistance increases. However, this increase becomes insignificant if this distance is greater than 80 mm.

This paper presents the results of an analysis of heat transfer in a cross-flow mini heat exchanger (CFMHE). The purpose of the paper was to analyze the results of the experimental measurements presented in the previous work in order to determine dimensionless correlations that allow for the calculation of heat transfer coefficients for the CFMHE. Analyzed CFMHE consisted of a brass cylindrical core, in which 2 mm circular holes were drilled. A method based on an optimization procedure was used to determine the correlations describing the heat transfer coefficients, allowing the correlations to be determined without the need of measuring the mini channel wall temperature. Overall heat transfer coefficients calculated using the proposed correlations typically did not deviate by more than ±10% from the corresponding experimental results, which was a significant improvement in the quality of the fit compared to the results presented in previous work.

In this paper, the identification of thermophysical parameters using the hyperbolic twotemperature model is made. We investigate the influence of ultra-fast laser pulses on the heating of a thin metal film using this model. Two differential equations coupled with the electron-phonon coupling factor G are used. One of these equations concerns electron temperatures and the other addresses lattice temperatures. Appropriate initial and boundary conditions are imposed for this model. The finite difference method with a staggered grid is used to solve this direct problem. Temperatures for even nodes and heat fluxes for odd nodes are calculated. The results of the direct problem and results of the experiment are compared. In the optimization process, an artificial immune system is used.

The numerical simulation of the heat transfer in the flow channels of the minichannel heat exchanger was carried out. The applied model was validated on the experimental stand of an air heat pump. The influence of louver heights was investigated in the range from 0 mm (plain fin) to 7 mm (maximum height). The set of simulations was prepared in Ansys CFX. The research was carried out in a range of air inlet velocities from 1 to 5 m/s. The values of the Reynolds number achieved in the experimental tests ranged from 93 to 486. The dimensionless factors, the Colburn factor and friction factor, were calculated to evaluate heat transfer and pressure loss, respectively. The effectiveness of each louver height was evaluated using the parameter that relates to the heat transfer and the pressure drop in the airflow. The highest value of effectiveness (1.53) was achieved by the louver height of 7 mm for the Reynolds number of around 290.

The relevance of this study is explained by the growing interest in increasing heat transfer by the development of high-performance thermal systems. Increasing the thermal characteristics of heat-exchanger systems is necessary for the efficient use of an energy source. The purpose of this study is to review the existing methods of heat-transfer intensification and examine the mathematical model of such an increase in efficiency when using petal turbulators. This study is based on a high-quality, reliable combination of proven theoretical methods (analysis, synthesis, concretization, generalization, modelling), and empirical methods. It is the introduction of turbulators into the flow channel that is one of the best methods of increasing passive heat exchange through such advantages as ease of manufacture and operation in combination with low operating and production costs. This study contains both passive and active methods of heat-exchange intensification that have been extensively investigated over the past decade. For this purpose, the newest studies of mainly authors from other countries were used, their detailed analysis was conducted and the results were summed up. In addition, a mathematical model of increasing the thermal efficiency of convective heating surfaces in a bundle of smooth pipes using petal turbulators was investigated, the results of which were tested on an experimental installation. The paper may interest a circle of readers interested in the problem of improving the thermal characteristics of heat exchangers, including researchers, teachers and students of higher educational institutions in the field of heat-power engineering.
Znaczenie tego badania wynika z rosnącego zainteresowania zwiększeniem wymiany ciepła poprzez rozwój wysokowydajnych systemów termicznych. Zwiększenie charakterystyki cieplnej układów wymienników ciepła jest niezbędne do efektywnego wykorzystania źródła energii. Celem niniejszej pracy jest przegląd istniejących metod intensyfikacji wymiany ciepła oraz zbadanie modelu matematycznego takiego wzrostu wydajności przy zastosowaniu turbulatorów płatkowych. Niniejsze opracowanie opiera się na wysokiej jakości, rzetelnym połączeniu sprawdzonych metod teoretycznych (analiza, synteza, konkretyzacja, uogólnienie, modelowanie) oraz metod empirycznych. Ponieważ to właśnie wprowadzenie zawirowywaczy do kanału przepływowego jest jedną z najlepszych metod zwiększenia biernej wymiany ciepła poprzez takie zalety jak łatwość wykonania i eksploatacji w połączeniu z niskimi kosztami eksploatacji i produkcji. Niniejsze opracowanie obejmuje zarówno pasywne, jak i aktywne metody intensyfikacji wymiany ciepła, które były szeroko badane w ciągu ostatniej dekady. W tym celu wykorzystano najnowsze badania, głównie autorów z innych krajów, dokonano ich szczegółowej analizy i podsumowano wyniki. The present work comprises a numerical analysis using the Ansys program to solve the problem of combined free-forced convection around a circular cylinder located in a horizontal lid-driven trapezoidal enclosure. The enclosure is filled with water. The upper moving wall and lower fixed wall are cold at a constant temperature, whereas the inclined walls are adiabatically insulated. The uniformly heated cylinder is located at different positions in the cavity. The study covers three values of Richardson number (0.01, 1, and 10). The results show that the streamlines and isotherms in the enclosure, the Nusselt number and friction factor in the moving wall, hot wall and bottom wall are strongly dependent on the position of the inner hot cylinder. The results are validated with previous work, and the comparison gives good agreement.

Opis:
The thermoelectric cooler (TEC) and thermoelectric generator (TEG) modules have several appealing features, including fixed parts, high reliability, low maintenance costs, and seamless connection with other heating equipment, accompaniment, can be powered by a variety of low-energy renewable energy sources such as solar water/air collectors, ground heat exchangers or heat from biomass. The thermoelectric assembly was integrated into the TEC using the TEG in this study. A prototype was developed in which recently developed thermoelectric modules were integrated into a thermoelectric cooler. For this purpose, a TEC sandwiched between two TEGs with different heat transfer conditions was established, to simulate the heat transfer and thermoelectric behavior of both the TEG and the TEC system, and evaluate the effect of the combined TEG-TEC on the performance parameters of the good system by comparing different cooling modes ranging from natural convection, forced convection, and water-cooling tests. It was shown that to the natural convection of heat transfer, as the TEC voltage increases, the hot surface temperature of the upper TEG increases, and the cold surface temperature of the lower TEG decreases, where the lowest TEC temperature reaches 1.36 A. When using forced convection (by using a fan), the temperature profile decreases over time, starting at around 70 °C for 7V, and after almost 60 minutes, the temperature drops to around 45 °C for 3V. This turned out to be a match between experiment and theory in all traces shown, with a voltage difference of 25 mV for 3V TEC and ending at 70 mV for 8V TEC.
