    This article deals with an attempt to estimate the value of the net balance of Hansbreen (SW Spitsbergen).In order to estimate thes value an assumption has been made that the value of the net balance of Hansbreen is a function of two groups of factors, i.e. static and dynamic ones. The static elements (georgaphical location of Hansbreen, topography of the glacier and its surroundings, etc.) have no influence on the elements of the interannual changeability of the balance; a constant value will represent these elements in formulae. A group of dynamic factors that introduces an interannual changeability to the net balance is made up of a set of meteorological factors (mainly the course of air temperature, precipitation and cloudiness). The said meteorological factors are influenced by the character of atmospheric circulation. Because the main features of the character of the interannual changeability of the air circulation over that area are influenced by the spatial distribution of the anomalies sea surface temperature (SST), the analysis of variances has been chosen as the method used to define the direct statistical estimation of winter and summer balances as the function of monthly anomalies in SST occurring in the North Atlantic in a preceding period. As a result of statistical analysis, two linear functions of great statistical significance have been obtained, i.e. formula [1] and [2] enabling the estimation of winter and summer balances respectively. These functions use the values of anomalies in SST as independent variables. The influence of these values on the course of changeability in atmospheric circulation over the Nordic seas is obvious. The calculated values of the net balance of Hansbreen, estimated by means of the above mentioned functions and the values observed (Fig. 4) proved to be almost the same. Having the values of anomalies in SST (Reynolds data set) a sequence of values of net balance of Hansbreen has been estimated for the period 1970/71÷1996/97 (Table 2, Fig. 5) with the help of this method. An error of values calculated in this way can be found within limits ą0.106 m. water equivalent. The values of the calculated net balance taken from the above mentioned period were used to find by means of best estimating correlation between Hansbreen net balance and temperature and precipitation sums at Isfjord Radio station. Thanks to these results, the next sequence of values of Hansbreen balance for period 1926/27÷1969/70 (Table 3, Fig. 6) has been calculated. The final values are of no statistical significance and contain unknown errors. If they are close to reality it might mean that the balance of Hansbreen has been permanently negative since the end of the 20-ties.

    Opis:
    The paper presents the results of investigations on the Hans glacier on Svalbard. The Artic conditions reąuired the application of a very specific surveying technology to make surveys of displacenients of an extensive and fast changing object. The technology that was implemented should combine observations made on extended areas (GPS) with classical observations of high precision. The SmartStation equipment which has been used to conduct the experiment of monitoring dynamie movements of a group of points situated on the Hans glacier fulfills this requirement. The surveys (quasi-continuous) were conducted in a period of three days. The paper contains the results of surveys as well.

    The Thirteen Years’ War of 1454–1466, fought between Poland and the Teutonic Order, resulted in Pomerelia and Gdańsk becoming part of the Kingdom of Poland. In recognition of Gdańsk’s contribution to the war effort against the Teutonic Order, the King of Poland, Kazimierz Jagiellończyk (Casimir IV Jagiellon), awarded the city four privileges. Issued in the period between 1454 and 1457, the documents granting these rights formed the keystone of Gdańsk’s exceptional political and economic status, not only in Royal Prussia, but also within the Kingdom of Poland. It was at that time that Gdańsk gained significant autonomy in administrative, judicial, and financial matters as well as in determining foreign (maritime) policy.

    The attitude of Gdańsk towards the war between Denmark and Sweden of 1501–1512 still has not been fully researched by historians. The city, which gained some autonomy in its contacts with foreign powers after 1454, remained neutral towards this conflict. This status did not change after Lübeck and the other Wendish cities had joined the war on the Swedish side, which increased the risk for Gdańsk with regard to shipping through the Danish Straits. Gdańsk maritime trade suffered losses due to the privateers commissioned by both Danish King Hans and the Lübeck city council. This article examines two cases of ships from Gdańsk that were seized. In 1509, the vessel of skipper Hans Paul, which carried armour for the garrison of Malbork Castle, was captured by Danish privateers, and on 30 May 1510, three ships that were sailing back to Gdańsk from Western Europe were seized by Lübeckers. The main purpose of this case study, which is based largely on the correspondence included in the official Gdańsk town records currently stored in the State Archives in Gdańsk, is to find out how those disputes were conducted and what impact they had on the city, its maritime trade and diplomacy. The cargo of armour seized in 1509 was recovered only with the help of a Polish envoy in Copenhagen, who cooperated with the envoy sent by the city of Gdańsk. In the second case, Gdańsk authorities made attempts (which included sending official letters and legations, and talks during the Hanseatic diets) to recover them at least until the 1540s, albeit to no effect. This failure was a consequence of Gdańsk’s neutral status, which limited the influence the city had over King Hans and the city authorities of Lübeck. Also, the safety of navigation in the Danish Straits was a priority for Gdańsk.

    W artykule przedstawiono uszkodzenia spowodowane przyczynami cieplno-wilgotnościowymi w Pawilonie Czterech Kopuł wzniesionym na początku XX wieku we Wrocławiu. Przedstawiono wyniki badań wilgotności, rodzaju i stężenia soli w ścianach oraz zidentyfikowano mikroorganizmy występujące w obiekcie. Dokonano analizy przyczyn powstania uszkodzeń związanych z zagadnieniami cieplno-wilgotnościowymi. Opisane zagadnienia powinny być uwzględnione w czasie opracowywanie projektów, remontów, obiektów zabytkowych.
    In the paper damages caused by thermal-damp reasons in Four Domes Pavilion erected at the beginning of 20th century in Wrocław, are presented. The results and the procedures concerning the examinations of wall dampness, kinds and salt concentration are described and microorganisms occurring in the described building are identified. The reasons for building damages are defined and in the summary the importance of thermal-damp issues is highlighted. They should be thoroughly analyzed while renovation designs of buildings of historical value are being worked out.

Tematem artykułu jest zasygnalizowanie istniejącego już od wielu lat nurtu „detabuizowania” sztuki dla dzieci. Przywołano działania Teatru im. Hansa Christiana Andersena w Lublinie i cykl Trudne sprawy oraz zarysowano tematykę jednego ze spektakli w ramach tego przedsięwzięcia. Na podstawie przedstawienia Grzeczna ukazany został sposób realizacji tematów egzystencjalnych w sztuce dla dzieci.
    Reflections on taboo topics in children’s literature and art have been the subject of many scientific discussions and considerations. Researchers are wondering how to convey sensitive issues in a way that is appropriate for children audience. There are numerous questions about what topics should be included concerning taboo area and are there any limits that should be set? The subject of the article will be to signal the trend of “removing the taboo” in the field of children’s art that has existed for many years. The activities of the Hans Christian Andersen Theatre in Lublin and the series Difficult isssues will be discussed in this review. Also, one of the performances will be outlined. On the basis of Polite’s performance, the way of presenting existential themes in art for children will be shown.

    Rozważania poświęcono Idiocie Fiodora Dostojewskiego, szczególnie skupiając się na motywie obrazu Chrystus w grobie Hansa Holbeina, który stoi w centrum powieściowego świata. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie specyfiki tego motywu – próba dowiedzenia, że jest on odbiorczo sfunkcjonalizowany: służy zatrzymywaniu czytelniczej percepcji. Tak rozumiany, pozwala widzieć w nim przetransponowany na język obraz z życia pisarza, będący źródłem ufundowania wspomnianego motywu. Filozoficzną podstawą uzasadnienia przyjętego twierdzenia jest fenomenologia (reinterpretacje ustaleń dotyczących wybranych właściwości warstwy wyglądów uschematyzowanych w wydaniu Romana Witolda Ingardena, a przedsiębrane przez Eckharda Lobsiena, rzecznika ich pojmowania w ujęciu Edmunda Husserla).
    The considerations are devoted to Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s Idiot, focusing particularly on the theme of Hans Holbein’s painting The Body of the Dead Christ in the Tomb, which stands at the centre of the novel’s world. The aim of the article is to show the specificity of this theme – an attempt at proving that it is functionalised in terms of reception: it serves to stop the reader’s perception. Understood in this way, it allows us to see in it the image of the writer’s life, translated into language, which is the source of the foundation of the aforementioned theme. The philosophical basis for justifying the adopted claim is phenomenology (reinterpretations of the findings regarding selected properties of the schematised appearances layer as proposed by Roman Witold Ingarden, and undertaken by Eckhard Lobsien, the spokesman of their understanding in the view of Edmund Husserl).

    In this paper the author offers an overview of hoards containing ornamental items, that is, jewellery, dress ornaments as well as ornaments used to decorate other artefacts. Je mapping of finds, starting with those from the second half of the 12th c., does not display any concentration in the discussed territory. However, there is quite a large concentration of deposits with ornaments in the southern borders, or actually beyond them—in Anhalt, Saxony-Wittenberg and in Thuringia (Fig. 1). When the finds are arranged chronologically, it turns out that deposits which were hidden in the period from c. 1360 to c. 1500 are the most numerous. Earlier hoards, however, are much richer in decorative artefacts. In later deposits such artefacts are either single specimens or their number is limited to but a few finds. There are occasional hoards dated back to the Early Middle Ages (to c. 1070) containing ornaments only or ornaments and non-monetary silver (in the form of clumps and bars). However, from the second half of the 12KP c. onwards there are no finds which contain ornamental items only. Although there are ornaments in deposits with bars (Gusskönige), they are accompanied by coins. An overwhelming majority of the ornamental items was made from silver. From the 13th c. onwards, gilding appears on the silver artefacts. Je technique of gilding is commonly used in silver jewellery artefacts from the 14th and 15th c. A silver ring from the hoard from Bardowick is ornamented in the niello technique. Gold artefacts occur very rarely, and it seems that they appear as single finds only. Bronze artefacts are truly unique. Specimens from the 14th and 15th c. are ornamented with semi-precious stones, a glass mass and enamel, while pearls are found sporadically. Amber does not occur in the discussed territory; on the other hand, it is known from small artefacts in other parts of Europe (e.g., from the Austrian hoard in Fuchsenhof, c. 1275–1278). Je assortment of ornamental artefacts for decoration of the body (jewellery) and of dress is quite similar to that from the present time. It encompasses rings (often with eyelets), annuli and signet rings, brooches used as clasps, buckles and the fittings of belts, knobs used as buttons, but also as dress ornaments, fittings (thin metal sheets with openings, used to ornament dresses, purses and caskets) in the shape of round and heraldic shields, or heraldic eagles and lions. In some hoards there are large numbers of buckles (some of these are similar to brooches, somewhat resembling fibulae). Crosses-pendants, earrings and hair pins are not common. Items of cutlery are rather sporadically found (silver spoons and silver fittings for knife handles). The largest hoards are known from the territory of the Wendic Hansa and they were discovered in urban areas. "ere is no doubt that these were gathered by members of the patriciate. On the other hand, rich hoards with gold artefacts are known from the Rhineland, but also from Erfurt in Thuringia and from Środa Śląska.
