NAZWY ZAWODÓW I ICH POLSKIE ODPOWIEDNIKI W artykule poruszona została problematyka opisu, klasyfikacji i tłumaczenia nazw zawodów rzemiosła artystycznego, zwłaszcza zawodów związanych z dziedziną mody i akcesoriów mody. Należy podkreślić, że zawody rzemieślnicze posiadają długą tradycję we Francji i cieszą się ogólnym uznaniem. Podstawowa trudność w tłumaczeniu słownictwa specjalistycznego, do którego należą nazwy zawodów, polega na umiejętności dostosowania terminu do rzeczywistości kulturowo-historycznej danego języka. Okazuje się bowiem, że niektóre zawody, obecne w danym kręgu kulturowym, zaliczane są do „dawnych” i „wymarłych” w innym kręgu kulturowym. Aby znaleźć dokładne odpowiedniki terminologiczne, nierzadko konieczne jest odwołanie się do badań diachronicznych. L’artisanat d’art français aujourd’hui – les noms de métiers et leurs équivalents polonais L’article aborde la question de la présentation, du classement et de la traduction des noms de métiers d’art en général et du domaine de la mode et des accessoires en particulier. Il convient de souligner que le savoir-faire, lié aux métiers d’artisanat en France, a toujours été apprécié et mondialement reconnu. La difficulté de traduire des termes d’un domaine spécialisé comme les noms des métiers d’artisanat d’art résulte du fait que certains métiers sont vivants dans une culture donnée tandis qu’ils sont classés comme métiers oubliés ou métiers d’antan dans une autre culture. Trouver les équivalents adaptés nécessite parfois une étude diachronique basée sur des connaissances historiques et culturelles.
The article deals with the presentation, classification and translation of names of crafts in general, and particularly the field of fashion and accessories. It should be emphasized that the know-how related to the artisanal handicraft in France has always been appreciated and recognized worldwide. The difficulty of translating terms in a specialized field such as the names of crafts results from the fact that some of them are kept alive in a given culture while they are classified as forgotten or old ones in another culture. Finding suitable equivalents sometimes requires a diachronic study based on historical and cultural knowledge.

Economised, thorough and skilful utilisation with the concept of cherishing things as its core thought is the basic design concept of traditional creation activities, implying profound philosophical thinking and life philosophy. This article, based on a theoretical interpretation of the traditional concept of cherishing things and combining methods including documents, material objects, manual restoration, etc., firstly expounds the influence and meaning of traditional Chinese folk textile mending in carrying out the concept of cherishing things in the contemporary era; secondly, it focuses on summarising the origin and development of the textile mending industry, pointing out the application prospects of hand darning techniques in nowadays market; and finally, via interpreting the comprehensive design of materials technology, pro-phase protection of preventive mending "smart creation" mode innovation of textiles, etc., this study specifically analyses the inheritance and innovation of folk textile mending techniques, so as to provide references for relevant industries and handicraft enthusiasts in the future.

Można stwierdzić między innymi, że nazwiska francuskie są krótsze, ale mają wiele wariantów dialektalnych, podczas gdy nazwiska polskie są dłuższe i mają bardziej bogatą derywację. Artykuł podaje także ranking takich nazwisk w statystykach demograficznych obu krajów: kowal jako etymon okazuje się najbardziej popularny. W pierwszej pięćdziesiątce we Francji są jeszcze: piekarz, młynarz i murarz; zaś w Polsce: krawiec i szewc. Noms de famille issus de l’artisanat en France et en Pologne L’article analyse les noms de famille issus de noms artisanaux en France et en Pologne. Il présente leurs origines (y compris des influences étrangères), types et formation de mots. On peut voir, entre autres, que les noms de famille français sont plus courts, mais ont beaucoup de variantes dialectales, tandis que les noms de famille polonais sont plus longs et ont une dérivation plus riche. L’article montre aussi la position de tels noms de famille dans les statistiques démographiques des deux pays : le forgeron comme étymon s’avère le plus populaire. Dans la top cinquantaine on peut trouver encore en France : fournier (boulanger), meunier et maçon ; tandis qu’en Pologne : couturier et cordonnier.
The article analyses surnames originating from artisan names in France and in Poland. It presents their origins (including foreign influences), types and word formation. We can see, among other things, that the French surnames are shorter, but have many dialectal variants, while the Polish surnames are longer and have a richer derivation. The article also focuses on demographic statistics of such surnames in both countries: the blacksmith as an etymon is the most popular. In the top 50, there are also in France: baker, miller and mason; while in Poland: tailor and shoemaker.

Znajdujące się w zbiorach archiwów państwowych księgi w przeszłości poddawane były zabiegom introligatorskim. Prace te, wykonywane przez introligatorów na zlecenie urzędów, dziś w wielu przypadkach budzą sporo wątpliwości. Do najczęstszych błędów introligatorskich należy zaliczyć: zszywanie bloku „na okrętkę”, zszywanie bloku „na sztych” oraz zbijanie grzbietu gwoździami. Poważnym błędem było również mechaniczne obcinanie wszystkich kart w bloku, nierzadko wraz z tekstem, oraz wymienianie oryginalnych opraw ksiąg na nowe, pozbawione historycznego charakteru. Używane do tego celu tanie materiały złej jakości (syntetyczne kleje i okleiny introligatorskie) szybko ulegały zniszczeniu, nie spełniając swej funkcji. Zlecenia prac introligatorskich powinny być zatem obwarowane szeregiem wskazówek i wymagań precyzujących zakres i technologię wykonywanych prac, by uchronić materiał przed dewastacją. Zawód introligatora można zaliczyć do ginących rzemiosł, co świadczy o konieczności sprawdzania kompetencji osób, którym powierzany jest materiał archiwalny, oraz skłania do stawiania postulatów o powrocie szkolnictwa zawodowego do rękodzieła.
The books which comprise the collections of state archives were subject to bookbinding treatment in the past. These activities, commissioned by offices, were carried out by bookbinders and in many cases they are a source of a great deal of doubt. The most recurrent mistakes of bookbinders include the following: sewing a stack of sheets “na okrętkę”, sewing a stack of sheets “na sztych”, and the application of nails to the back of a book. A serious mistake was associated with the mechanical trimming of all sheets in a stack, frequently along with the text, and the replacement of the original cover of books with new ones, which were deprived of the historical character. Cheap materials of inferior quality (synthetic glues, covering materials) deteriorated quickly and failed to perform their function. Therefore the commission of bookbinding tasks should be associated with a number of recommendations and requirements which specify the scope and the technology of the tasks in order to save the material from destruction. The dying bookbinding trade enforces the verification of the competences of the people to whom the archive material is entrusted and induces one to put forward postulates about the return of the professional education to craftsmanship.

The early modern goldsmithery in Chojnice (Konitz) has so far been outside the main area of scholarly research. The search in archives and libraries conducted for the purposes of the article, as well as the analysis of preserved works crafted by local masters, has therefore brought a lot of new, previously unknown information on the subject. Chojnice is a typical, small centre of goldsmithery, which remained overshadowed by Gdansk, a powerful hub of crafts located nearby. For nearly whole of the eighteenth century only a single workshop operated in the town, and a new master usually appeared only after the death of his predecessor. The research yielded information about five goldsmiths operating in Chojnice in that century, as well as one apprentice who died before becoming a master. Nearly all of them were connected by various family ties. Only a few works of art created in the Chojnice workshops were identified, but they bear the signatures of only two masters who were active in the last third of the eighteenth century. Johann Friedrich Felsch I (1744–1808) made several items for the churches nearby: an incense boat in Chojnice, a monstrance in Bysław, a monstrance base in Wiele and a reliquary cross in Tuchola, as well as a set of six spoons, currently stored in the collection of the Malbork Castle Museum. It is worth noting that his works, apart from the master’s mark, bore a sign that proved he was a member of the guild of goldsmiths in Malbork. Johann Gottlieb Jantzen (1742–1772), Felsch’s brother-in-law, delivered a monstrance to the church in Jeleńcz (now in Tuchola), and a frame for the worshipped statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the Bernardine Church in Zamarte (now missing). All these items represent an average level of artistry, and show considerable dependence on the style developed by the masters from Gdansk, where both goldsmiths active in Chojnice studied their craft.

The article presents the “do it yourself” (DIY) phenomenon which is popular in culture nowadays. It constitutes a distinctly noticeable sign of the return to craftwork based on manual work. The author treats this phenomenon as a modern continuation of old handicraft and craft traditions, while at the same time she notices its new functions and socio-cultural meanings. The author recalls historical contexts of the “do it yourself” philosophy in the culture of the West, as well as in native cultural traditions; she also presents current examples of activities of this kind, taken from websites and internet blogs. In the author’s view, the DIY phenomenon is situated in the circle of current trends of design, it is an expression of the criticism of consumerist society and is an ecological attitude towards the natural environment. It also remains strongly connected with the outlook of the involved people and social groups, as well as constituting evidence of people’s creative involvement in their relations with the material world.

Problematykę nauczania prac ręcznych dziecka traktuje się dzisiaj jako zamknięty rozdział pedagogicznej refleksji funkcjonującej poza obszarem codziennej praktyki edukacyjnej. Jakby zapomniano o tym, że działanie jest pierwotną formą myślenia i że umysł dziecka rozwija się na podstawie jego działalności i z niej wyrasta. Zagadnienie nauczania prac ręcznych dziecka w pierwszej połowie XX w. podjęli m.in. Key (1928), Przyłuski (1906), Andruchowicz (1924) i Maćkowiakowie (1938). Ich poglądy łączy wspólna idea nauczania prac ręcznych dziecka.
The topic of handicraft is treated at present as a closed chapter of historical and pedagogical reflections functioning beyond daily practice. Activity as a primeval form of thinking as well as the fact that the child’s brain develops and grows on its basis seem to have been forgotten in young learner education. An attempt to look at handicraft in the historical and pedagogical context may in the future result in new educational forms of work beneficial for children, their intellectual development and dexterity. Handicraft in blended teaching was considered in the methodological publications of the first half of the 20th century by, among others, Key, Przyłuski, Andruchowicz, Maćkowiak and Maćkowiak.

The assortment of artistic handicraft, textiles, militaria and foreign paintings kept in the manor house of the Larysz Niedzielski family in Śledziejowice constituted a unique collection. In the course of one hundred years, three generations of the Niedzielski family managed to fill a wooden building (constructed in the middle of a vast old park between 1823 and 1825 by the prior owners, Tekla née Niedzielska and Józef Zdzieński), including its walls and cabinets, with very interesting and valuable items. Unfortunately, a number of them were damaged or lost in the course of the cruel peasants’ revolt. Nevertheless, thanks to the passion of Erazm Niedzielski, a very precious and numerous collection was saved. It included the favourite numismatic collection, Italian and Dutch paintings, militaria, kontusz sashes and tapestries, equipment and glass. There were also French gilded items made of bronze and other small exhibits of significant artistic, and also sentimental, value. Each of the objects had its own history, often related to the longdeceased ancestors. Some of them, e.g. the golden denar of King Vladislaus Łokietek was the object of a transaction concluded in July 1896 between Stanisław Niedzielski and Count Emeryk Hutten-Czapski, which became a part of the Polish history of collecting. A significant portion of collections ended up in Śledziejowice as dowries of subsequent Niedzielski maidens: Emma née Komar (1820 – 1910), the wife of Erazm, and Apolonia Colonna-Walewska (1865 – 1939), the wife of Stanisław. These dowries included portraits, family tokens and luxury items held by the families for a number of years. This group encompassed gilded bronze items produced in the Parisian workshop of Pierre Philippe Thormire (1751 – 1843): a three-tier sweets stand, a brass Empire style column used as a lamp base and three pairs of Empire style bases for crystal plates, as well as two candle-holders made of gilded bronze in the style of Louis XVI and two candelabra for 9 candles made of two Sèvres vases imitating Chinese porcelain, encased in French gilded bronze in the style of Louis XV. Another luxury item was the French “Breguet” watch, the work of the Swiss watch-maker Abraham Louis Breguet (1747 – 1823), purchased in 1809 in Paris by one of the “grandfathers” who probably stayed there with Napoleon’s army, possibly General Count Stanisław Florian Potocki. It was a personal watch with a large gilded case, with the face with Arab numerals and one hand fixed in the middle. These items were a true decoration of the house. The watch might have been the property of an ancestor of Apolonia Walewska, i.e. General Potocki, a rich and fashionable man who stayed in Paris together with the army of Prince Joseph in the first years of the 19th century. Another item is also related to the person of General Count Potocki, i.e. the Order of St. Stanislaus from the period of the Congress Kingdom, which Stanisław Niedzielski donated to the Lviv National Museum of King John III along with a collection of coins, a family signet ring and a kontusz sash. The items that were traditionally handed over from father to son were weapons. Weapons were encountered in numerous Polish homes. They testified to the family’s bravery and valour and, if necessary, provided equipment for fighters, as it was the case with the Circassian shashka which Stanisław gave to his son Adam when he was going to war. Weapons, especially ornamented ones, also performed decorative functions. Placed on the wall in the form of a panoply or on a tapestry, they reminded about the valiant past and were also a token after those who fought for the fatherland, even if they were not necessarily family members. In Śledziejowice, such weapons included the sabre of Commander Stanisław Revera Potocki and the Austrian sabre of cavalry officer, General Zygmunt Jordan, one of the commanders in the January Uprising. Obviously, there were also other weapons, including the Spanish cutlass with a Toledo blade, probably a token after an expedition to the Iberian Peninsula, the Caucasian shashka and kama and, the most noticeable item, i.e. the 17th century Hussar armour adorned with a cavalry cross on the breastplate. It was a combat armour and not a representative one, thence its solid execution and modest decorations. Apart from military articles, the Niedzielski manor house – similarly to any other nobleman’s residence – featured old textiles: four Polish kontusz sashes and Eastern tapestries of interesting provenance. Erazm Niedzielski brought two very valuable manuscripts from a trip to Paris in 1869. One was the manuscript of a-moll mazurka op. 17 of Frederic Chopin written in 1833 in Paris. Archaeological specimens purchased by Erazm Niedzielski in 1872 came from a trip to Italy. These were small ceramic items, donated in 1927 by Doctor Stanisław Niedzielski to the Archaeological Unit of the Jagiellonian University, where they are still kept today. Other purchases made during the Paris trip in 1869 by Erazm Niedzielski include a translation of a Medieval hymn to the Holy Spirit, Veni Creator, written by Adam Mickiewicz (“Come, the Creator Spirit, Visit the Thoughts of the Faithful…”). Its authenticity was confirmed by the poet’s son, Władysław Mickiewicz. There were also works by foreign authors. In this respect, a collection of old paintings of artists from the area of Italy and the Netherlands is particularly interesting. These were landscapes, portraits, religious and mythological scenes. They were purchased, in a vast majority, by Erazm Niedzielski from a collection of Prince Chancellor Wacław Antoni Kaunitz (1711 – 1794), which ceased to exist in 1820. The rank of the Niedzielski collection is best testified by the fact that the most valuable painting found in the Śledziejowice collection is “Venus and Amor” by Jan Mays, currently held by the Museum of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków; another valuable masterpiece was “The Head of the Madonna” probably painted by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1693 – 1770), which was bought by Count Zamoyski from Stanisław Niedzielski. Other precious and rare artefacts include a collection of graphic works of Franciszek Smuglewicz and Marco Carloni, “Vestigia delle Terme di Tito” characterised by a very high artistic and technical level. It presents the painted decoration of Titus’ Bathhouse and a part of the Golden House. It was a gift of Stanisław Niedzielski for Countess Elżbieta Hutten-Czapska in 1897. This was a very valuable publication, considered a rarity also in the 19th century. Erazm Niedzielski was a valued coin collector, well known in Kraków. He accumulated an interesting collection of Greek and Roman coins from the times of the republic and the empire, as well as Polish coins starting with 11th century denars, through coins of district princes and election kings, as well as foreign coins occurring in the Polish lands of various epochs. Its significant portion was donated in 1931 by Stanisław Niedzielski to the Museum of Jan III Sobieski in Lviv. Kajetan Niedzielski and Erazm Niedzielski were passionate collectors and the Śledziejowice collections were created mostly thanks to their knowledge and passion; apart from true artefacts which could be presented in renowned museums, the collections also include odd items such as horseshoes, fragments of old joinery, an old Polish spur and a metal squiggle. Stanisław Niedzielski did not share the collector’s passion and he put the entire effort to the maintenance of the property destroyed by WWI and economic crisis, even at the cost of selling or exchange of the most valuable items, e.g. the 17th century Eastern tapestries for utility furniture from Erazm Barącz in 1921. The list of Śledziejowice collections which Stanisław Niedzielski prepared in the inter-war period surprises with the variety of the artefacts. It includes numerous remarks about the provenance or further fate of items and constitutes a priceless historical material for the history of collecting. Even though the collections were dispersed, thanks to the list it is possible to reconstruct them

Opis:
Handicraft production is usually chaotic and difficult to monitor, since its products and manufacturing processes are complex. As all the manufacturing steps rely on varied skill levels of the workers, the situation is even more stochastic. There are several common problems, such as inappropriate production method, line unbalance, excessive stock, lack of production planning and control phases, etc. They stem from the lack of suitable operation model, redundant workforce usage, and insufficient internal training activities, which lead to the waste of human resources. In this paper, a roadmap to improve the operational efficiency of handicraft manufacturing is suggested, using Lean-Six Sigma methodology and tools. A case study is conducted in a Vietnamese firm to show the validity of the approach.
