This article focuses on Armand Lévy, Adam Mickiewicz’s secretary, as the missing link between Romantic Polish nationalism and proto-Zionism. It examines Lévy’s interpretation of Adam Mickiewicz’s use of Jewish motifs and how Lévy’s interpretation provided his friend and neighbour in Paris, Moses Hess, a German-Jewish socialist, colleague and rival of Karl Marx, with a repertoire he had lacked to structure his proto-Zionist ideas. The article discusses how ideas from one cultural sphere were transferred to others. Mickiewicz, seeking to find ways to strengthen the Polish nation-building process following the partition of his motherland, used his interpretation of the contemporary Jewish Diaspora as a model. His secretary, the Frenchman Armand Lévy, reinterpreted Mickiewicz’s interpretation. His convoluted life course eventually led him to think about the Jews in nationalist terms via the discursive tools he acquired from Mickiewicz. Going beyond the latter’s views, Lévy regarded the Jews as a diasporic nation aspiring to gain political statehood. He championed Jewish messianism as a concrete step towards the Jews’ sovereignty. This, in turn, provided Moses Hess with a repertoire he had lacked until this point: namely, an acquaintance with Jews who were committed to renewing the sovereign Jewish life as of old. The article shows how Armand Lévy – a person acting in a sociological ‘contact zone’, i.e. in a social space where cultures meet, clash, and grapple – was able to cross the boundaries of Frenchness, Polishness, Jewishness, cosmopolitanism and nationalism, transferring motifs between Jewish and non-Jewish émigrés in complex ways which provoked unexpected results.

Opis:
Brisance, power and detonation velocity are the most important parameters describing secondary high explosives. They are determined by various methods. In the experimental determination of brisance, a number of different methods have been developed to date, including the Hess lead block compression test, plate dent test, sand test and the Kast method. The first method, which seems to be used most frequently, measures the deformation of a lead block caused by the detonation of an explosive sample. In this paper, the brisance of selected emulsion explosives used in mining, determined via the Hess compression test, are presented. Different emulsion explosives manufactured by Nitroerg S.A. were tested, including bulk and cartridged emulsions. Moreover, the properties of explosives were also predicted theoretically using dedicated software and the results correlated with those obtained from the test. In turn, theoretical values of brisance were calculated using the different approaches described in the literature.
Kruszność, energia i prędkość detonacji są jednymi z najważniejszych parametrów opisujących materiały wybuchowe kruszące. Są one wyznaczane różnymi metodami. Do oznaczania kruszności materiałów wybuchowych opracowano do tej pory kilka metod badawczych, spośród których wymienić należy próbę zgniatania Hessa, test zagłębienia płytki, test piaskowy oraz metodę Kasta. Pierwsza metoda, która wydaje się być najczęściej stosowaną, odnosi się do odkształcenia walca ołowianego po detonacji próbki materiału wybuchowego. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań kruszności wybranych górniczych materiałów wybuchowych emulsyjnych przy użyciu próby odkształcenia Hessa. Analizie poddano różne materiały wybuchowe emulsyjne produkowane przez Nitroerg S.A., w tym luzem i nabojowane. Ponadto, przy użyciu dedykowanego oprogramowania wyznaczono teoretyczne parametry materiałów wybuchowych oraz skorelowano je z uzyskanymi wynikami kruszności. Z kolei teoretyczne wartości kruszności zostały obliczone przy użyciu różnych podejść, które opisane są w literaturze naukowej.

Opis:
Energy storage technology (EST) is an effective way to improve the power quality of renewable energy generation (such as solar energy and wind energy), but a single energy storage system (ESS) is difficult to meet the demand for the safe operation of the grid. According to the structure and operation characteristics of the existing battery/super-capacitor hybrid energy storage system (HESS), a battery/super-capacitor HESS is proposed. The working principle and three working modes (the super-capacitor pre-charging cold standby mode, the boost mode and buck mode) of the HESS are analyzed in detail. The state equations of the boost mode and buck mode are derived. The state space average method is used to establish the small signal equivalent model under the buck/boost mode. Moreover, the charge and discharge control strategy of the HESS is obtained by combining the voltage closed-loop control. The simulation model is built in Matlab/Simulink to verify the effectiveness of the proposed HESS and its control strategy. The results show that the HESS and its control strategy can ensure the DC bus voltage has good stability and superior anti-interference, and it can simultaneously provide large current, increase the battery life, and improve the technical economy of energy storage.
