Opis:
Introduction and objective. Hepatitis A Virus (HAV), reportedly the most common cause of acute viral hepatitis in developing countries, infects millions of people worldwide each year. The aim of the study is to investigate the seropositivity of anti-hepatitis A virus (HAV) IgG and IgM in all age groups in Erzurum, and to determine the effect of various factors such as age, gender, climatic conditions and HAV vaccination (included in 2012 in the National Immunization Schedule on seroprevalence) on the seropositivity. Materials and method. The serological results of 25,007 individuals referred to Erzurum Public Health Microbiology Laboratory between January 2015 – December 2018 were retrospectively reviewed to test for the presence of anti-HAV IgG and IgM. The patient ages were 0–93 years. Serum samples were analyzed by ELISA. S/CO values of ≥1.00 and >1.21 were considered positive for anti-HAV IgG and IgM, respectively; results below this value were considered negative. Results. Anti-HAV IgG and IgM seropositivities were 87.3% and 0.2%, respectively. Anti-HAV IgG prevalence – 88.5% and 86.4%, anti-HAV IgM positivity – 0.1% and 0.3% in men and women. Anti-HAV IgG seroprevalence – 87%, 73.2%, 58.7%, 75.2%, 86.1%, 89.8%, 96.1%, 99.1%, 99.1% and 99.3%, respectively, at 0–4, 5–9 10–14, 15–19, 20–24, 25–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59 and >60 age groups. Anti-HAV IgM seropositivity – 0, 0.1%, 0.7%, 0.7%, 0.3%, 0, 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.1%, and 0.2%, respectively, in the same age groups. Anti-HAV IgM positivity was the highest in November – 36(0.97%. Conclusion. In Erzurum, anti-HAV IgG prevalence is tremendously high, whereas prevalence of anti-HAV IgM is exceptionally low, especially in the paediatric age group. Therefore, HAV vaccine is provided free of charge in Turkey, including Erzurum, since 2012.

Opis:
Introduction. Molecular studies have confirmed the silent circulation of enterovirus (EntV) and hepatitis A virus in the environment, even in the absence of clinical manifestation. Viral pathogens are among the major causes of disease outbreaks, particularly in the bigger cities and both in the developed and underdeveloped nations. Materials and method. Between June 2016 – June 2017, 97 samples of drinking water, river water polluted with sewage and blood were selected and obtained from high risk communities in Pakistan. Negatively charged membrane filters were used to concentrate the virus, followed by the use of specific PCR primers set for quick identification of the waterborne viruses. Results. Enteroviruses were recovered from 40%, 28.57% and 33.33% of river water polluted with sewage samples in Lahore, Islamabad and Rawalpindi, respectively, while the presence of 13.13% and 11.76% of viral load was also confirmed in the drinking water of Lahore and Rawalpindi, respectively. A high prevalence of HAV (12.5% and 21.05%) was also verified in the clinical samples. Phylogenetic analysis indicated close resemblance of HAV isolates with the Indian strains. This study is the first ever comparative analysis of the EntV and HAV isolated from environmental samples and clinical specimen on a molecular level. Conclusions. The parallel surveillance of EntV and HAV in the river water polluted with sewage, and clinical samples is quite helpful for controlling and reducing the disease burden of the waterborne illnesses.

Opis:
Objectives Data on high frequency of hepatitis A virus (HAV) antibodies for wastewater treatment staff is contradictory. Literature lacks data on the seroprevalence of antibodies to HAV (anti-HAV) among workers in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Bulgaria. The aim of this study is to establish a specific humoral immune response to hepatitis A virus – anti-HAV total antibodies among staff in WWTPs. Material and Methods A complex study of health and working conditions included 110 subjects working in 3 WWTPs in Bulgaria (74% of all workers in the 3 studied WWTPs and 20% of all employees in Bulgaria registered in 2014 under the wastewater collection, discharge and treatment code of economic activity). Workers had been differentiated in 3 groups on the basis of their occupational work: operators, support staff and other workers exposed to biological agents. Venous blood from all 110 subjects was tested once for carriers of HAV antibodies. Results Anti-HAV total antibodies were found for 52.7% of workers in WWTPs. There is a positive association between activity performed in WWTPs (operators, maintenance personnel and others exposed) and a positive one for the presence of anti-HAV (Chi2 = 6.882, df = 2, p = 0.032). Odds ratio (OR) for hepatitis A increases 2.9 times in the group of operators vs. others exposed to biological agents in WWTPs (OR = 2.914, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.149–7.393, Fisher’s p = 0.039). Odds ratio for hepatitis A increases 4.3 times in the group of support staff from WWTPs vs. others exposed to biological agents in WWTP (OR = 4.295, 95% CI: 1.075–17.167, Fisher’s p = 0.049). Conclusions Higher frequency of anti-HAV antibodies among operators and maintenance personnel at WWTPs has been established as compared to other workers exposed to biological agents in WWTPs. There is a positive association between increasing age of the workers and the presence of anti-HAV. Int J Occup Med Environ Health 2018;31(3):307–315

Opis:
Over the last several decades, a gradual decrease in the incidence of hepatitis A and an increase in the population of non-immune people, especially in the group of young people have been observed in Poland. The aim of this study was to assess of the presence of specific anti-hepatitis A virus IgG class antibodies (anti-HAV IgG) in relation to age among non-vaccinated hepatitis A patients. There were statistically significantly more patients up to 45 years of age with anti-HAV IgG negative results than those over 45 years of age, and the Fi-square correlation coefficient (Φ2) was 0.263 between the analyzed variables. The data analysis shows that the number of people with specific IgG antibodies against hepatitis A increases with age. The risk of hepatitis A infection in people under 45 is high due to widespread seronegativity in this age group.
Na przestrzeni ostatnich kilkudziesięciu lat zaobserwowano w Polsce stopniowy spadek zachorowań na wirusowe zapalenie wątroby typu A i zwiększenie populacji osób nieuodpornionych, zwłaszcza w grupie osób młodych. Celem pracy była ocena obecności swoistych przeciwciał anty-HAV IgG w zależności od wieku, wśród osób nie szczepionych przeciw wirusowemu zapaleniu wątroby typu A. Zaobserwowano statystycznie znamiennie więcej pacjentów do 45 roku życia z wynikiem anty-HAV IgG ujemnym niż badanych powyżej 45 roku życia, a współczynnik korelacji Fi-kwadrat (Φ2) wynosił 0,263 pomiędzy rozpatrywanymi zmiennymi. Z analizy danych wynika, że z wiekiem rośnie liczba osób posiadających swoiste przeciwciała przeciw wirusowi zapalenia wątroby typu A w klasie IgG. Ryzyko zakażenia wirusem zaplenia wątroby typu A u osób poniżej 45 roku życia jest wysokie ze względu na powszechną seronegatywność w tej grupie wiekowej.

Opis:
Viral hepatitis is caused by viruses, the most important of which are hepatitis A virus (HAV), hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV). New discoveries and new therapeutic options result in better and better results of treatment. However, the public's awareness of the occurrence of these diseases and the detection of infections as soon as possible is still important, what is associated with better outcomes. In order to assess the basic knowledge about viral hepatitis among Polish society, an online survey spread throughout Poland and covering mainly young people was created. 2205 responses were collected and analyzed. On the basis of the results obtained, it can be concluded that Polish youth have little knowledge about viral hepatitis, what is associated with less awareness of the possibility of infection.

Opis:
Liver diseases and more specifically viral hepatitis are at the center of interest due to their global spreading, even in the most developed countries. The range of symptoms, the complications and the course of the disease have imposed the operation of liver centers at the outpatients' departments of hospitals, where the contribution of several specialized doctors the disease is diagnosed, prevented and treated. Many patients suffer from hepatitis without knowing it either because they manifest no symptoms or because the infection is not traced through the usual lab tests. This paper focuses on studying and proving how the systematic reading of the main liver diseases and the methods through which the doctor makes the diagnosis can help the study and analysis of a series of steps that have to be followed in order to treat the disease. Then, the use of a modern information system using Medical Informatics technologies is proposed so as both the task of diagnosis and the efforts to treat and overcome the problems related to the liver disease to be supported.
