Opis:
Urbanization is a serious threat to the soil cover. It entailsthe process of soil sealing thereby limiting soil functions. The local climate is also affected – sealed areas absorb heat, thereforetemperature above them is increasing. It contributes to theformation of an urban heat island, which negatively affects thequality of human life. In the two surveyed gullies in Lublin, 35measurement points were located, in which two temperature sensorswere placed: one at a height of 1.5 m and the other in the soilat a depth of 0.15 m. The measurement points were located at differentdistances from the buildings (from 10 to 236 m in a straightline) and in the areas with different types of vegetation – trees, shrubs and grass. Research carried out in two gullies in Lublin revealedthat the differences in air temperature at various locationswere even 10 degrees Celsius depending on the distance from thebuildings, the type of plant cover and soil characteristics. Largetemperature variability could be observed even within a smallarea. The negative impact of buildings on the air temperature inthe city is eliminated by proper distribution of green areas, reducingthe temperature by up to 7 degrees Celsius. The process ofsoil sealing cannot be avoided. Therefore, land intended for urbanisationshould be used rationally. The spatial planning processshould take into account not only land for infrastructure but alsofor green areas to reduce negative impact of soil sealing on thequality of life of the residents.

Opis:
This paper proposes an analytical model to describe the interaction of a bounded ultrasonic beam with an immersed plate. This model, based on the Gaussian beams decomposition, takes into account multiple reflections into the plate. It allows predicting three-dimensional spatial distributions of both transmitted and reflected fields. Thereby, it makes it easy to calculate the average pressure over the receiver’s area taking into account diffraction losses. So the acoustical parameters of the plate can be determined more accurately. A Green’s function for the interaction of an ultrasonic beam with the plate is derived. The obtained results are compared to those given by the angular spectrum approach. A good agreement is seen showing the validity of the proposed model.

Opis:
Contemporary forms of integration of architectural structures with vegetation reveal more and more diversification in every respect, both formal and functional. Plant-and-architectural hybrids have to face more demanding and higher goals – they cannot be only neutral for nature but should support the environment, in a social sense too. Greenery integrated with roofs and facades has many functions – especially in the metropolises centers – primarily ecological (environmental) and supporting /symbiotic, which directly affect the living space. It turns out that its social and cultural roles become equally important. The research for a sustainable and resistant urban environment is developing very rapidly today. Greenery is one of the most important studies’ objects. The integral role of nature in shaping the conditions of healthy living environment is unquestionable actually. The history of the contemporary idea of green architecture, including the plants’ integration with buildings, dates back to the twentiethcentury modernist conception filtered by the ecological movement of the 1960s. Initially, formal and technological possibilities were sought for integrating plants with architecture. Nowadays, plant-andarchitecture hybrids set higher goals – they not only do harm but support the environment. Greenery integrated with roofs and facades performs multiple functions, primarily environmental, social and cultural, and supportive/symbiotic to the architectural form itself. The potential of plant-and-architecture hybrids is increasing, especially in the downtown – in the areas of intensive development.

Opis:
The requirement of high operational flexibility of utility power plants creates a need of using online systems for monitoring and control of damage of critical components, e.g., steam turbine rotors. Such systems make use of different measurements and mathematical models enabling calculation of thermal stresses and their continuous control. The paper presents key elements of the proposed system and discusses their use from the point of view of thermodynamics and heat transfer. Thermodynamic relationships, well proven in design calculations, were applied to calculate online the steam temperature at critical locations using standard turbine measurements as input signals. The model predictions were compared with operational data from a real power plant during a warm start-up and show reasonably good accuracy. The effect of variable heat transfer coefficient and material properties on thermal stresses was investigated numerically by finite element method (FEM) on a cylinder model, and a concept of equivalent Green’s function was introduced to account for this variability in thermal stress model based on Duhamel’s integral. This approach was shown to produce accurate results for more complicated geometries by comparing thermal stresses at rotor blade groove computed using FEM and Duhamel’s integral.

Opis:
Presented paper is dedicated to problems of deformation of the Earth's crust as a response to the surface loading caused by continental waters. The aim of this study was to specify areas particularly vulnerable to studied deformation and to compare calculated and observed displacements. Information of the continental water volume was taken from the WaterGAP Global Hydrological Model. Calculated values of the deformations were verified with the results obtained with programs SPOTL and grat. Vertical deformations were almost 10 times higher than the deformation in the horizontal plane, for which reason later part of the paper focuses on the former. In order to check agreement of the calculated and observed deformation 23 stations of International GNSS Service (IGS) were selected and divided into three groups (inland, near the shoreline and islands). Before comparison outliers and discontinuities were removed from GNSS observations. Modelled and observed signals were centred. The analysed time series of the vertical displacements showed that only for the inland stations it is possible to effectively remove displacements caused by mass transfer in the hydrosphere. For stations located in the coastal regions or islands, it is necessary to consider additional movement effects resulting from indirect ocean tidal loading or atmosphere loading.

The free vibration analysis of homogeneous and isotropic circular thin plates by using the Green’s functions is considered. The formulae for construction of the influence function for all nodal diameters are presented in a closed form. The limited independent solutions of differential Euler equations were expanded in the Neumann power series using the method of successive approximation. This approach allows to obtain the analytical frequency equations as power series rapidly convergent to exact eigenvalues for different number of nodal diameters. The first ten dimensionless frequencies for eight different natural modes of circular plates are calculated. A part of obtained results have not been presented yet in open literature for thin circular plates. The results of investigation are in good agreement with selected results obtained by other methods presented in literature.

Opis:
In this paper we have investigated the existence, uniqueness and possibility of constructing of two-sided approximations to the positive solution of a heat conduction problem with two sources. The investigation is based on methods in operator equations theory in half-ordered spaces. In this case we have considered a nonlinear operator equation that corresponds to the initial boundary value problem in a cone of non-negative continous functions. The properties of the corresponding operator define conditions which provide the existence and uniqueness of the solution. The conditions link the parameters of the problem implicitly meaning that they don’t provide the range of allowed values but need to be verified for each specific parameters value set separately. During the investigation we have provided the scheme of a two-sided iteration process which must satisfy the conditions in order to converge to the positive solution from both sides. The computational experiment have been conducted in two domains – unit disk and unit half disk. We have applied both two-sided approximations method and Green’s quasifunction method for the problem solving. The obtained results are presented as a surface and level lines plots and also as a table. The results in corresponding domains obtained by different methods have been compared with each other.
