We consider the following second order differential equation with delay [formula] In this paper we find necessary and sufficient conditions of positivity of Green's functions for this impulsive equation coupled with one or two-point boundary conditions in the form of theorems about differential inequalities. By choosing the test function in these theorems, we obtain simple sufficient conditions. For example, the inequality [formula] is a basic one, implying negativity of Green's function of two-point problem for this impulsive equation in the case 0<γi≤1, 0<δi≤1 for i=1,…,p.

Opis:
Free vibration analysis of homogeneous and isotropic circular thin plates with variable distribution of parameters by using Green’s functions (solution to homogeneous ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients) is considered. The formula of Green’s function (called the influence function) depends on the Poisson ratio and the coefficient of distribution of plate flexural rigidity, and the thickness is obtained in a closed-form. The limited independent solutions to differential Euler equations are expanded in the Neumann power series using the Volterra integral equations of the second kind. This approach allows one to obtain the analytical frequency equations as the power series rapidly convergens to exact eigenvalues for different values of the power index and different values of the Poisson ratio. The six lower natural dimensionless frequencies of axisymmetric vibration of circular plates of constant and variable thickness are calculated for different boundary conditions. The obtained results are compared with selected results presented in the literature.

Opis:
In this paper an exact solution to the problem of the thermally induced vibration of a cantilever beam is presented. It is assumed that on a part of the beam the surface acts as a periodically time-varying heat source. The changing of the beam temperature produces thermal stresses, which cause displacements of the beam. The vibration of the beam is governed by the Bernoulli-Euler equation which includes the variable thermal moment. The heat equation and the vibration problem are solved by using the Green’s function method. The symbolic software Mathematica has been used to obtain the solution of the problem in an analytical form.

Opis:
This paper presents an overview of basic concepts, features and difficulties of the boundary element method (BEM) and examples of its application to exterior and interior problems. The basic concepts of the BEM are explained firstly, and different methods for treating the non-uniqueness problem are described. The application of the BEM to half-space problems is feasible by considering a Green’s Function that satisfies the boundary condition on the infinite plane. As a special interior problem, the sound field in an ultrasonic homogenizer is computed. A combination of the BEM and the finite element method (FEM) for treating the problem of acoustic-structure interaction is also described. Finally, variants of the BEM are presented, which can be applied to problems arising in flow acoustics.

Opis:
We have supplemented the already formulated microscopic theory of optical properties of very ultrathin molecular films (quantum nanofilms), i.e., quasi 2D systems parallel to XY planes bounded by two surfaces. The exposure of nanofilms to the external electromagnetic fields has resulted in the creation of excitons, but different than bulk ones in one direction perpendicular to surfaces. The analysis of the dielectric response of the system to perturbation of an external electromagnetic field shows that optical properties of these crystalline nanosystems for low exciton concentration of Frenkel’s excitons strongly depend on boundary parameters and the thickness of the film. In addition, the dynamical absorption and the refraction coefficient show a very narrow and discrete dependence of external electromagnetic field frequency, which is the consequence of both resonance and quantum size effects. Influences of boundary conditions on optical characteristics (through the analyses of dynamical absorption and refraction indices) of these nanostructures were specially and in details explored. The emission and the luminescence spectrum of the whole film have been analyzed and the results compared to experimental data show very good behavior and very good coordination.

The photonic response exhibited by typical semiconductor nanodevices is modeled through a notionally universal descriptor by virtue of the Green’s function associated with the generic complete, inhomogeneous differential equation. It is derived that the photoresponse evolution is expressible as the sum of saturation-limiting linear nanophotonic behavior and a linear superposition of eigenfunctions of the respective homogeneous Fredholm integral equation.

Opis:
The requirement of high operational flexibility of utility power plants creates a need of using online systems for monitoring and control of damage of critical components, e.g., steam turbine rotors. Such systems make use of different measurements and mathematical models enabling calculation of thermal stresses and their continuous control. The paper presents key elements of the proposed system and discusses their use from the point of view of thermodynamics and heat transfer. Thermodynamic relationships, well proven in design calculations, were applied to calculate online the steam temperature at critical locations using standard turbine measurements as input signals. The model predictions were compared with operational data from a real power plant during a warm start-up and show reasonably good accuracy. The effect of variable heat transfer coefficient and material properties on thermal stresses was investigated numerically by finite element method (FEM) on a cylinder model, and a concept of equivalent Green’s function was introduced to account for this variability in thermal stress model based on Duhamel’s integral. This approach was shown to produce accurate results for more complicated geometries by comparing thermal stresses at rotor blade groove computed using FEM and Duhamel’s integral.

The free vibration analysis of homogeneous and isotropic circular thin plates by using the Green’s functions is considered. The formulae for construction of the influence function for all nodal diameters are presented in a closed form. The limited independent solutions of differential Euler equations were expanded in the Neumann power series using the method of successive approximation. This approach allows to obtain the analytical frequency equations as power series rapidly convergent to exact eigenvalues for different number of nodal diameters. The first ten dimensionless frequencies for eight different natural modes of circular plates are calculated. A part of obtained results have not been presented yet in open literature for thin circular plates. The results of investigation are in good agreement with selected results obtained by other methods presented in literature.

The work presents an application of the boundary element method applied to a two-dimensional conductive heat transfer. The algorithm of the method is explained and its advantages are outlined. Green’s function as a fundamental solution for Poisson’s equation in two dimension was used and the direct approach was applied. The presented results concern building construction elements as typical cases of thermal bridges. Some properties of the boundary element method which give new possibilities were considered. For instance, forcing selected values of temperature on inner edges of the considered domain or local increasing of the temperature field resolution. The simulations were performed with the author’s own algorithm.
