    TheMoore-Gibson-Thompson [MGT] dynamics is considered. This third order in time evolution arises within the context of acoustic wave propagation with applications in high frequency ultrasound technology. The optimal boundary feedback control is constructed in order to have on-line regulation. The above requires wellposedness of the associated Algebraic Riccati Equation. The paper by Lasiecka and Triggiani (2022) recently contributed a comprehensive study of the Optimal Control Problem for the MGT-third order dynamics with boundary control, over an infinite time-horizon. A critical missing point in such a study is the issue of uniqueness (within a specific class) of the corresponding highly non-standard Algebraic Riccati Equation. The present note resolves this problem in the positive, thus completing the study of Lasiecka and Triggiani (2022) with the final goal of having on line feedback control, which is also optimal.

    Artykuł jest próbą reinterpretacji obrazowości charakterystycznej dla mediów sieciowych opartych na różnych formach łączności bezprzewodowej. Krążące w tych mediach obrazy są efektem procesów intensywnego przetwarzania danych, a ich ekologia jest odmienna od tradycyjnych form kultury audiowizualnej: sytuują się znacznie bliżej środowiska, w którym są wytwarzane (przykłady pochodzą z praktyk artystycznych tzw. sztuki klimatu, ale mogą również uwzględniać mapowanie partycypacyjne), w szeregu wymian między aktorami ludzkimi i nie-ludzkimi. Sięgając do propozycji teoretycznych Jamesa Gibsona, zwłaszcza do teorii afordancji rozpatrywanej w kontekście jego całościowej propozycji dotyczącej optyki ekologicznej, Nacher proponuje podejście odchodzące od modelu reprezentacjonistycznego. W tym ujęciu opisywane typy obrazowania jawią się nie jako odrębne jednostki reprezentacji, ale forma wymiany energii z otoczeniem.
    This article is an attempt to reinterpret the imagery characteristic of network media based on different forms of wireless connectivity. Images circulating in these media are the effect of an intensive processing of data, and their ecology is different from the traditional forms of audiovisual culture: they are situated much closer to the environment within which they are produced (the examples come from artistic practices such as the art of climate, but they can also include participation mapping), as a result of a series of exchanges between human and non-human actors. Drawing on the theoretical propositions of James Gibson, especially to the theory of affordances considered within the context of his overall proposal related to ecological optics, Nacher suggests a departure from the representational model. Within this proposed approach the described types of images appear to be not individual units of representation, but a form of exchange of energy with the surroundings.

    Discharge measurement using the pressure-time (Gibson) method typically involves mounting measurement instrumentation on the outside of the penstock. In the case of a hydropower plant where the penstock is built over concrete, an innovative approach is necessary in order to install instrumentation inside the penstock. Such instrumentation has been implemented for the purpose of efficiency tests of the upgraded small Kaplan turbine. The pressure-time method, in its classic version, requires sending pressure signals from both penstock cross-sections to the differential pressure transducer by means of connecting tubes. This raises the question on the influence exerted by dynamic properties of the connecting pipes/transducer system on the discharge measurement results. Calculations carried out using previously developed method enable authors to demenstrate that the connecting pipes/transducer system had exerted a negligible influence on the discharge measurement results.

    Wiele wynalazków ma swe źródła w wyobraźni artystów, ich marzenia i wizje wyprzedzają rozwiązania techniczne. W 1982 roku amerykański pisarz William Gibson wykreował koncepcję cyberprzestrzeni i zilustrował ją w nowelach i powieściach. Mona Liza turbo przedstawia świat, w którym nie istnieją tradycyjne systemy i wartości, nie ma też religii monoteistycznych. Duchowość pozostaje jednak elementem natury człowieka nowej ery. Religią cyberprzestrzeni jest zaś vodou, którego „mechanizm” przypomina sposób funkcjonowania wirtualnej rzeczywistości i odpowiada potrzebom post-industrialnego i post-ludzkiego środowiska. Opiera się na przeżywaniu i bezpośrednim doświadczaniu, polega na wnikaniu w struktury, jest antydogmatyczne i wielorakie, Boga określa niejasno, daje dużą dowolność na poziomie kultu i praktyk. Gibson wprowadził szereg typowych dlań zjawisk i na nich osnuł wątek kryminalny książki. Vodou, zakorzeniona w afrykańskim plemiennym kulcie wodunów, dotarło do Ameryki w XVII wieku wraz z niewolnikami. Obecnie podbija rodzącą się cyberprzestrzeń, jest chętnie wykorzystywane przy tworzeniu koncepcji i estetyki gier komputerowych.
    Many inventions have their sources in the artists’ imagination. In 1982 an American writer William Gibson created the term cyberspace and used it in his short story and novels. Mona Lisa overdrive shows a virtual world freed from all traditional systems, powers and values. All monotheistic religions are also absent. However, the cyberman does not deny the spirituality, and has found a religion that suits best his new needs and perspectives. So vodou is present from the very beginning of the novel, the author introduces its typical figures, loa and zombies, and builds a criminal plot on its “mechanism”. Vodou is conform to cyberspace: IT is anti-dogmatic, multiform and scattered, there is no center, no God, no arborous structure. Both are experience and feeling. Vodou derives from an ancient African cult and came to America in 17th century, with the Black slaves. Now it conquers the cyberspace as it is present in many games.

    The aim of the article is to consider the possibilities of incorporating the category of mental representation into the ecological theory of perception, devised by its originator, James J. Gibson, as a kind of antirepresentationalism. The full-blooded idea of perceptual representation seems “too heavy” for the needs of the ecological approach, according to which perception consists in directly collecting or apprehending the features of objects present in the environment by means of the senses. Since this process is a direct one, Gibson believes postulating mental representation does not in any way make it easier to understanding it. On the other hand, in contemporary philosophy of mind and cognitive psychology the concept of mental representation is almost indispensable. The article presents an attempt to interpret the perceptual process of information acquisition in terms of dynamic systems theory – or, more precisely, as a kind of simulation. The simulation model of perception based on a minimalist understanding of representation (as procedural knowledge) is meant to complement the ecological theory of perception proposed by Gibson.

    W projektowaniu urbanistycznym zieleń kojarzy się z funkcją ekologiczną, zdrowotną, rekreacyjną i wypoczynkową. W opracowaniu przeanalizowano zieleń jako ważny element środowiska przestrzennego, wpływający na wielozmysłowe doznania człowieka i postrzeganie otoczenia, w tym obiektów architektury. Rozważania oparto głównie na teorii percepcji według J. Gibsona. Celem analiz jest zwrócenie uwagi na formy zieleni, które swoją różnorodnością i zmiennością w czasie dostarczają ogromnej ilości bodźców, działających na wszystkie zmysły i czynią proces percepcji pełniejszym. Rola zieleni w procesie postrzegania jest bardzo duża i wieloaspektowa dlatego według autorki, formy zieleni powinny być bardziej doceniane przez urbanistów jako narzędzie projektowania przestrzeni i przedmiot ludzkich doznań.
    In urban design, greenery is associated with ecological, health, recreational and leisure functions. The author would like to draw attention to the different roles of greenery forms in the process of space perception. The study analyzed greenery as an important element of the spatial environment, influencing the multisensory human experience and perception of the environment, including architectural objects. The considerations were based mainly on the theory of perception according to J. Gibson. The aim of the analysis is to draw attention to the forms of greenery, which, by their diversity and changeability in time, provide an enormous amount of stimuli that act on all the senses and make the process of perception more complete. The role of greenery in the process of perception is very large and multifaceted, so according to the author, greenery forms should be more appreciated by urban planners as a tool for designing space and human experience.

    Across one hundred years of bilateral diplomatic relations between Poland and the United States, America has posted 31 ambassadors to Poland (Jones, 2011, p. 153). In this context it is worth emphasizing the rich contribution of the first American Minister to Poland, appointed in 1919, Hugh Gibson. Amid inauspicious circumstances of the interwar period, Gibson managed to give full assistance to the new Polish government and forge a successful cooperation between allied countries. Gibson's accomplishments and recognition, however, would not have been as effective without his great supporters and collaborators: Ignacy Paderewski and Herbert Hoover. The present thesis aims to provide a historical context of Polish-American relations prior to the first, official diplomatic assignment as well as Gibson's prominent role in shaping Poland's security and credibility in the international arena.
    W ciągu stu lat dwustronnych stosunków dyplomatycznych pomiędzy Polską a Stanami Zjednoczonymi Ameryki Północnej, wysłano do Polski 31 ambasadorów (Jones, 2011, p. 153). W kontekście tym warto podkreślić ogromny wpływ pierwszego amerykańskiego ministra w Polsce, nominowanego w 1919r. Hugh Gibsona. W niesprzyjających okolicznościach okresu międzywojennego Gibsonowi udało się w pełni wesprzeć nowy polski rząd oraz nawiązać udaną współpracę pomiędzy sprzymierzonymi krajami. Jednakże dokonania i uznanie Gibsona nie byłyby tak skuteczne, gdyby nie pomoc jego zwolenników oraz współpracowników: Ignacego Paderewskiego i Herberta Hoovera. Celem niniejszej pracy jest ukazanie historycznego kontekstu stosunków polsko – amerykańskich przed pierwszym oficjalnym przydzieleniem zadań dyplomatycznych jak również wybitnej roli Gibsona w kształtowaniu bezpieczeństwa i wiarygodności Polski na arenie międzynarodowej.

    Artykuł stanowi omówienie faz rozwoju nowego, w latach 1950-1980, podejścia do zagadnienia percepcji wzrokowej, które zaproponował amerykański psycholog James J. Gibson. Odnoszący się z dużym sceptycyzmem do wyrosłej na gruncie filozofii idealistycznej kategorii wrażenia zmysłowego, Gibson znany jest ze swojej ekologicznej teorii percepcji, w której zaciera się granica między podmiotem i środowiskiem. Nie wszyscy jednak zdają sobie sprawę z tego, że nawiązując do podstawowych założeń psychologii postaci, sformułował on wiele idei, które są w stosunku do niej nowatorskie, a przeprowadzona przez niego drobiazgowa analiza pojęcia ekosystemu bardziej zbliża go do postaciowców, niż wymierzona w kategorię Gestalt krytyka go od nich oddala.
    The paper discusses the development of the new – in 1950-1980 – approach to the visual perception proposed by the American psychologist James J. Gibson. He is known from his skepticism about the category of sensation that emerged within the context of idealistic philosophy, and from his ecological theory of perception, wherein the boundary between the subject and environment is obliterated. However, it is not always noticed that while referring to the Gestalt psychology he formulated a lot of original ideas. His detailed analysis of the ecosystem concept makes him more akin to the Gestalt theorists, despite the fact that his criticism of the Gestalt category seems to suggest the very opposite.

    Archives have a rather dull reputation. Boxes of dusty papers guarded by rigid access rules are unappealing to many people. However, there are exceptions to that preconception, notably the Hoover Institution Library and Archives. Hoover Archives has been a place of serendipity for me personally since 2009 when I was a graduate student. What began as a class project became a master's thesis and launched a career as an independent historian. An astonishing collection of virtually unknown records combined with a wonderful array of people led the way to many adventures and publications. This is the story of how books and public histories are born - one person and one discovery at a time.

    The cinematic scenes of the Last Supper were treated as a challenge to visual theology. As the Last Supper, which in the films about Jesus of Nazareth (and, of course, the gospels) is the culmination (and also a turning point as an event ending Jesus` earthly activity), it is possible to see the essence of the theological message of films referring to the gospel in its presentation. The scenes of the Last Supper from three films were subjected  to a comparative analysis, each of which is an individual director`s vision. These are The King of Kings (1961) by Nicholas Ray, The Passion of the Christ (2004) by Mel Gibson and The Thorn of God (2015) by Óscar Parra de Carrizosa. The selection criterion was the importance given in the films to the scenes of the Last Supper and their mutually diverse representations. It has been shown how the established new transmission of visual theology modifies the meanings determined by classical theology, basically not deviating from the framework set by it.
