    The paper reflects on the results of a comparative analysis conducted in two collaborating youth detention centres: Jugendhilfezentrum Leinerstift in Grossefehn, Germany and the Racibórz Youth Detention Centre in Poland. To obtain research data, the authors visited the two detention centres. The collected data include: the beginning and the development of the 15-year cooperation between the two centres; the similarities and differences in the applied pedagogical methods; favourable changes in rehabilitative treatment during cooperation between the analysed centres; periodic exchanges of the Polish and German youth under rehabilitation; the participation of Polish and German teachers and scholars in conferences and trainings. The multiaspectual comparative analysis of the functioning of the Polish and German rehabilitation centres broadens our practical and theoretical knowledge of comparative pedagogy. The mutual contacts of the teachers and the youth facilitate the process of eliminating prejudices and promoting genuine friendship and tolerance.

    The Polish–German Treaty of Good Neighbourship and Friendly Cooperation of June 17, 1991 refers to the topics and rules of the Joint Declaration of November 14, 1989. During this period, the efforts to establish an international youth meeting place in the former estate of the anti-Nazi oppositionist Helmuth James von Moltke in Kreisau (Krzyżowa) in Lower Silesia were intensified. The article analyzes this example of mutual interactions between civil society initiative and government diplomacy.

    The main aim of the paper is to analyse the literary representations of meetings of children’s characters with Germans. The revision of the image of a German, who has been perceived as strange and dangerous for centuries, is carried out based on the example of selected contemporary books for young readers as well as literature for adults. There is a tendency to perpetuate a negative stereotype in contemporary Polish literature on the one hand and an attempt to overturn it on the other. The latter is achieved by presenting individual and often tragic German lives that so far have been marginalised in narratives about the past.

    Traditional or Modern? Lubusz Youth at the Beginning of the XXI CenturyWe were interested in fi nding determinants of traditional and modern young Poles’attitudes towards elementary social issues. We wanted to answer the question howproximity to the German border can be treated as a diff erentiating factor consideringattitudes of youth form Lubuskie voivodeship, compared to the attitudes oftheir peers from other regions of the country. Th e analysis of the PGSS and LSS dataallowed us to formulate thesis of modern attitudes towards most of the analyzed dimensionsof social life, beyond the perception of the paternalism. Modern worldviewmanifests itself most strongly in relation to national issues where it can be concludedthat contemporary young people are rational citizens, deprived of strong emotions inthe way of speaking about their country and its activities.It cannot be strongly concluded that the proximity to the border fosters attitudesmore modern, because of the intensity of contacts with Germans. In most of theanalyzed cases we could not fi nd signifi cant diff erences in the opinions of the Polesand the inhabitants of the region of Lubusz. Th ere are, however, individual statements,which revealed signifi cant diff erences between the Poles and Lubusz, whichcan be explained by the multidimensional impact of the border. We claimed thosediff erences with the importance of the fl ow patterns of behavior between Poles andGermans, or the development of trade relations. It should be emphasized that theproximity of the border also generates a negative attitudes of Poles towards Germans.Daily contacts shape attitudes towards patriotism.

    An important form of struggle against the German occupant during the Second World War were illegal magazines appearing throughout Poland. Their task was to counteract enemy propaganda, break the informational blockade, and shape citizens’ awareness. Apart from the “Information Bulletin of the Home Army” edited by the Polish Underground State, there appeared also magazines edited by political organisations, including those related to the national-radical movement. Young editors from the Młodzież Wszechpolska and Młodzież Wielkiej Polski organisations stressed that one of the greatest threats posed by the war is the demoralisation of the young generation, and that the need to counteract this phenomenon is as important as the armed struggle. The analysed texts reveal a less known, non-stereotypical image of Polish nationalistic organisations.

    A Familiarity of the Most Common Croatian and German Proverbs among the Youth The results of an extensive study on the familiarity of Croatian proverbs, which was conducted in 2014 with 867 informants from all over Croatia showed that young people aged 11–20 (adolescence) provided in 79.30% ratio the wrong answer to the questions about the familiarity of the most common Croatian proverbs. The aim of this paper is therefore to test the hypotheses of previous researches and to answer the following questions: To what extent are the most common proverbs to informants in this age group actually known? Are there differences between the adolescents in Germany and Croatia, and why? The survey has been carried out with native speakers aged 11 to 20 in the German and Croatian language area using a questionnaire.
    Bisherige Untersuchungen im Bereich der Parömiologie in Kroatien (vgl. Aleksa Varga, Matovac 2016) haben gezeigt, dass kroatische Muttersprachler die am häufigsten auftretenden Sprichwörter in der kroatischen Sprache sehr gut kennen. In Hinsicht auf die verschiedenen Altersgruppen der Probanden zeigten sich jedoch erhebliche Unterschiede. 79,30% der Jugendlichen bzw. der Probanden im Alter von 11 bis 20 Jahren kannten die häufigsten kroatischen Sprichwörter nicht oder kannten diese in einer anderen Form z. B. in Form von Antisprichwörtern. Eine weitere Forschung zur Bekanntheit der Sprichwörter unter muttersprachlichen Probanden im Alter von 11 bis 20 Jahren sollte daher neue Einblicke ermöglichen. Die Ergebnisse der vorliegenden Arbeit wurden mit Hilfe von muttersprachlichen Probanden bzw. Jugendlichen aus dem deutschen und kroatischen Sprachraum und eines Fragebogens ermittelt, der danach statistisch ausgewertet wurde. Beantwortet werden sollte, in welchem Maß die muttersprachlichen Probanden die häufigsten Sprichwörter in ihrer Sprache kennen und ob Faktoren wie Alter und Schulabschluss darauf Einfluss haben. Untersucht werden sollte ebenfalls, ob sich Unterschiede bei den Jugendlichen aus dem kroatischen und deutschen Sprachraum in Hinsicht auf die Bekanntheit von Sprichwörtern zeigen und warum.

    Literature for young readers in Eduard Trewendt’s publishing house in Breslau (1845–1903). Research-historic essay The article presents children and youth literature review which was published in the second half of 19th century in German publishing house of Eduard Trewendt in Breslau, especially in Trewendt‘s Jugendbibliothek series. The series consisted of 132 titles, was a great commercial success and secured for the publishing house monopoly position in Silesia. The books for children and youth offered to the readers entertainment, knowledge, shape personalities and moral values system. The authors included famous German writers e. g.: Franz Hoffmann, Karl Müller and Hedwig Prohl who wrote stories for girls. Trewendt also published German translations of well-read foreign authors e. g. Charles Dickens series. The publishing house also offered wide range of course books and other products for school children to facilitate learning process. Some of them reached all German speakers and were renewed many times.

    Der vorliegende Beitrag wendet sich der migrations- und kontaktinduzierten Mischvariante Jugendlicher und junger Erwachsener zu. Hierbei liegt der Fokus sowohl auf die ursprüngliche, primäre, ethnolektal gefärbte Sprachvariante, als auch deren medial-stilisierte Form. Der Beitrag veranschaulicht die Tendenzen im gesprochenen Gegenwartsdeutsch, sensibilisiert für dessen Transgression sowie Übertragung auf das mediale Terrain und lässt das Spannungsfeld zwischen medialer Stilisierung und alltäglichem Gebrauch erfahren.
    This paper addresses the language youth variant triggered by migration and contacts. The focus is put on both the primary form of the so-called ethnolect as well as the media representation and is transgression to everyday register. The paper shows tendencies in contemporary spoken German and allows recognition of media-presented ethnolect and its primary form, and shows similarities and differences between the two of them.
