Opis:
The goal of the monograph is to introduce the characteristics and development of the Russian concepts in regards to the informational warfare through the incidences of the Russian-Georgian war in 2008. According to most authors this war can be considered the first armed conflict of the history where in order to achieve certain goals - parallel to the military operations - invasive activities were carried out in the cyberspace (Hollis, 2011). For the purposes of understanding the subject closer we found it of particular importance to review shortly how the information operations arrived in the Russian military strategy and ideas in the years prior to the war. In our opinion it’s practical to start the investigation with the Russian experts’ conception of the nineties in the information operations category that got affected significantly by the political and military changes of the era. In the second part of the script we were looking for a response as how far the information and cyberspace operations parallel to the military operations contributed to achieve the political and strategic goals set during the war. At the end we present shortly how the conflict contributed to the appreciation of the information operations and to the modernization program of the Russian armed forces.

Opis:
The Caucasus region is still considered as one of the hottest geostrategic spot in the world politics and still inter-state war scenarios are most plausible and could be revoked into real scenario development at any moment. Even current example of Georgian and Russian relations is to be one of the evident of the occasion. As it is known, Georgia and Russia are still in formally in war, both de facto and de iure and only a truce between the parties named as „Saakashvili-Medvedev-Sarkozi” treaty is indicating a fragile peace in the region. Hence, the consequences of the warfare waged in August of 2008 are being echoed in contemporary period of time. However, from the geostrategic point of view, only the fights between Georgian and Russian Armed Forces are being reviewed and analyzed but no one paid attention to and scrutinized combat operations between Georgian and Ossetian military formations scrutinizing, whereas both sides perceived territorial defence forces as one of the serious strike units at the initial stage of the conflict on 3-9 August of 2008 which was falling within the scope of Low Intensity Conflict. The operations could be analyzed on how the parties were using this kind of active reserve military formations, how efficient had been both territorial defence systems before the war and how it reflected the situations developed after the war. The comparative analyses of the engaged parties’ capabilities with regard to territorial defence strategies and properly used tactical reserve forces are very important and omnipotent to relevantly consider possibility and opportunity to achieve peace and stability at the regional level and reinforce regional security provisions.

Opis:
In the medieval art of war siege constituted one of the principal forms of fight. Several basic techniques were used in taking a stronghold, such as assaulting the walls of the fortress, breaching the wall, digging a subterranean tunnel under the wall and enfeeblement of the garrison by lengthy siege. Bearing in mind various data, in the Middle Ages Georgians used the following technical means to capture fortresses: assault ladders, battering rams and other engines for breaching walls, ballistas, stone throwing engines and subterranean tunnels. In the article light is shed on the siege capabilities of the Georgian army of the period. Extensively discussed are the Georgian army’s stone throwing artillery, various types of stone hurling engines and the time of their spread in Georgia. Various techniques of capturing fortresses, applied by the Georgians are described. These include mounting the walls with ladder or various improvised means. The hazardous technique of directly assaulting the fortress without preliminary preparation or bringing up heavy siege engines is shown. The capturing of fortresses by means of underground tunnels is discussed separately. By the available evidence it is not apparent that Georgians made use of all the siege techniques known in the medieval world; however, it can be said that they were familiar with and used successfully the basic methods of siege warfare.
