    Opis:
    The article presents the attempt to systematize the problems of urban geology using the example of Warsaw agglomeration. The introduction discusses the available literature, both domestic and foreign. It was noted that many authors understand this concept in various ways, defining it differently. This is the result of diverse interests of researchers, whose common point is that their works and research were located in or associated with urban areas. It also presents, in general, the range of subjects and the set of tools related to Earth sciences, which help in solving research tasks. The article makes reference to the constraints associated with availability of the land and problems related to the applicability of methods. It presents the thesis stating that the needs of users of geoinformation in the urban environment are different from the current ones, which were mainly focused on natural resources, rather than on interaction or coexistence of natural resources and development. The recipients of geoinformation in the urban environment, in relation to the presented conceptual scheme, are mainly people or institutions that do not have an appropriate knowledge of geology. Hence, it is necessary to present geoinformation in a clear and accessible manner, as conclusions or guidelines for use. The examples presented in the article prove that geology of urban areas is now becoming a very important part of knowledge necessary for proper, sustainable development of our cities. Over the last few years a significant part of the population moved to urban areas. This trend is noticeable in Poland and around the world.

    Opis:
    The article presents method of study of rock mass structure, consisting of penetration of borehole using a video camera. Examination in this method is simple and easy to performance. Advantage of presented device for rock mass recognition in relation to other devices and measure methods is that the device is equipped with an infrared video camera, which let conclude occurence of different layers, thickness and angle of inclination. Described equipment also allows observation of various types of discontinuity: from fractures to cavities.
    W artykule przedstawiono sposób badania struktury górotworu polegający na penetracji otworu badawczego przy użyciu kamery. Pomiar tą metodą jest prosty i łatwy w wykonaniu. Wyższość prezentowanego urządzenia, między innymi dla celów rozpoznawania budowy geologicznej skał, w stosunku do innych urządzeń i metod pomiarowych polega na tym, że urządzenie to, wyposażone w kamerę video działającą w podczerwieni, pozwala naocznie stwierdzić występujące rodzaje warstw skalnych, ich grubość oraz kąt nachylenia. Omawiana aparatura pozwala także na obserwację wszelkiego typu nieciągłości górotworu: od pęknięć do pustek i kawern.

    Opis:
    This work is only a preliminary study on the evaluation of geological engineering properties of loess area of Kraków. It has been expanded to include field tests (CPTU, DMT), which is an alternative to expensive and time-consuming laboratory tests. The field tests allow enough detail to track the variability of physical and mechanical properties of soils, but in many cases, provide too much information, because their interpretation is often based only on a qualitative analysis. Laboratory and field tests are complementary and should be continued in order to determine best the correlation between the measured values of the resistance probes (CPTU, DMT) and the results obtained from laboratory tests. This will provide new calculation formulas for the evaluation of geotechnical parameters of loess in situ.
