    Critical Genre Analysis (CGA) is a theory of interdiscursive performance taking a multi-perspective approach to account for professional practice, demystify the interdiscursive nature of professional genres, account for professional identities, understand professional communication as interdiscursive performance, and provide evidence-based pedagogical insights. The present paper capitalizes upon CGA to analyze the genre of Principal’s Remarks, which originate from a speech delivered by the school principal on the anniversary and annual speech day of a school to report the development of the school. A total of 12 Principal’s Remarks of an aided Christian secondary school in Hong Kong, China released in 12 consecutive years were incorporated into the corpus for analysis. The genre was analyzed at four levels, which conceptualize discourse as text, genre, professional practice, and social practice respectively. The study exemplifies how CGA can be capitalized upon to analyze an unfamiliar genre in a multi‑perspective fashion.

    The fact that verbal expression is subject to both language and social norms is indisputable. However, the advances of discursive theories are slow to be integrated into didactic practice in a systematic way. The article attempts to identify reasons underlying such a state of affairs. It is argued here that the overabundance of reference theories and the different scientific traditions lead to the fragmentation of the object of the study and create false terminological friends. The use of units of conceptualization and analysis of discourse, such as the genre or type of discourse, sometimes poses problems in didactic practice. Finally, discursive norms evolve continuously, often creating hybrid forms. One of the solutions to the above-mentioned problems, proposed in this article, is to make learners aware of discursive phenomena rather than try to provide ready-made solutions.

    The article aims at helping non-native speakers of English to write death notices, following the requirements of American tradition of the genre. It is based on the theoretical research into the genre, carried out by its author, who analyzed 1076 contemporary New York Times notices, according to Moves and Steps model of genre analysis by J. Swales and V. Bhatia. Having distinguished the death notice from the obituary, the author presents the communicative functions of the genre and its structure, consisting of seven moves, each made up of one to seven steps. Their presentation and brief analysis is accompanied by 100 patterns andtemplates, which allows intermediate (B1–B2) students of English to create their own texts successfully step by step.

    The present study examined the genre of Iraqi wedding invitation cards (WICs) in terms of its textual and visual components, and the impact of the social norms and assumptions on the articulation of these components. Drawing upon three analytic tools, namely, genre analysis proposed by Swales (1990) and Bhatia (2004), semiotic analysis suggested by Kress and Van Leeuwen (2001), and critical discourse analysis advocated by Fairclough (2010), a sample of 250 WICs was selected to be considered for analysis. Corpus analysis showed that Iraqi WICs varied in terms of their non-linguistic features like printed forms, colors, layouts, calligraphy, graphics, and paper materials. On the other hand, the underlying schematic organization of Iraqi WICs was built around seven component moves. Furthermore, Islamic religious beliefs and Iraqi socio-cultural system were clearly encoded in these wedding invitation texts affecting their organization structure.

    The current study compares the rhetorical structure and metadiscourse of research article abstracts in more and less prestigious journals in Linguistics. To this end, 200 abstracts from peer-reviewed Linguistics journals that are indexed in the Web of Science and Scopus were compared with 200 abstracts extracted from peer-reviewed Linguistics journals that are not indexed in either of these two highly ranked databases. Using Hyland’s (2000) model of move analysis and Hyland’s (2005) taxonomy of metadiscourse, the study reveals that abstracts in less prestigious journals typically include longer moves for introduction, purpose and method while abstracts in more prestigious journals include significantly lengthier findings. As for metadiscourse, abstracts in less prestigious journals employ significantly more transitions, frame markers and evidentials whereas the abstracts in more prestigious journals exhibit higher use of code glosses, hedges, boosters and self-mentions. The results are interpreted with reference to the types of journals, and pedagogical implications and new research directions are proposed.

    The article discusses selected problems of learning and using English as an academic language from the perspective of foreign students in Poland. The theoretical part of the paper concentrates on the issues related to the concept of identity and the status of English as an academic lingua franca, especially in the light of the growing role of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) in university education. Such theoretical background is intended to serve as a kind of introduction to the discussion which centres around the influence of this specific social variation of the English language on the process of shaping or reshaping identities among students who have decided to continue their education outside their native language environment in the multilingual context of a university language department. Seen from such a perspective, university courses in EAP may be treated as a form of practical implementation of multilingual pedagogy and, more specifically, the idea of inclusive “classrooms” with a particular goal-oriented curriculum. The empirical part of the article presents the research project which aimed to examine the above-mentioned phenomena as experienced by a group of language students of different ethnic and national background who have been studying (and living) in Poland for at least a year. The main research technique used in this qualitative study was the semi-structured interview, selected with a view to obtaining an in-depth picture and highly personalised account of the process of (re)constructing individual identities in a specific social context and educational setting.

    The use of audiovisual recording devices is changing the practice of qualitative research. Extensive corpus of data can be generated in (shortterm) focussed fieldwork. Nevertheless, methods to analyse video data are still in an experimental stage. This article explores the benefits and limitations of applying sociolinguistic genre analysis to audio-visual data. This is illustrated with a case study, based on the videotaped »deep-trance vision« of a New Religious Movement’s spiritual leader, which is one the most famous contemporary religious visionaries in Germany. The analysis aims to reconstruct the construction of this religious experience of transcendence from the perspective of its followers. We will examine three different levels of communication (a) the inner context, exploring the textual, gestural, mimical and prosodic aspects, (b) the intermediate level where the focus lies on the setting and decorum, and finally (c) the outer context, focussing on the social embedding of this form of »transcendent« communication and its filmic presentation. The article closes with a reflection on the need to combine hermeneutic analysis of case studies based on textual analysis with ethnographic field data and observation to contextualise its interpretation.

    This article discusses selected aspects of the organisation of the academic article introduction – a section of a central academic genre, recognised as both troublesome (Swales 1990) and strategically important, as it is at this stage that the reader forms the fi rst, and often lasting, impressions of the whole text. Based on Swales’ (1990) revised CARS model of article introductions and drawing on previous Polish–English contrastive studies (e.g., Duszak 1994; Golebiowski 1998, 1999), it looks into the placement, realisation, and role of the purpose statement in introductions to articles published in the years 2001-2006 in linguistics-related peer-reviewed English and Polish-language journals. It seeks answers to the following questions: (i) Is the statement of purpose a typical/recurrent feature of introductions to Polish-language articles? (ii) If it does occur in Polish, in which part of the introduction is it usually made by Polish authors as compared to English writers? (iii) What is the preferred way of announcing it in both groups of texts? and (iv) Can any assessment be made of its prominence in both languages on the basis of what precedes and what follows it? Contrary to what might have been expected on the basis of previous studies, the article demonstrates that the statement of purpose is in fact a stable element of the introduction to a Polish-language linguistics article, although its prominence depends on the presence of other rhetorical moves.

    The article focuses on blogs related to research activities of the academic community. Research-related blogs as components of university websites have developed into an array of sub-genres shaped by specific foci, their authors and the desired audiences. The data set consists of fifty posts from ten blogs of six universities. Drawing upon Swales’ methodology of genre analysis, the study explores the generic structure of the blog posts, reveals the communicative purposes they can fulfil within the landscape of university websites, identifies significant communication strategies, and explores the roles the blogs may serve in communicating science to the diverse audiences they potentially address. The analysis has shown that the blogs help accomplish the general goals of informing about the university and promoting it providing a personalized view and engaging the reader, manifest loose but recurrent generic structuring, and can be vehicles of knowledge dissemination as well as knowledge construction.

    Artykuł przedstawia analizę genologiczną dwóch wybranych podcastów kryminalnych o tematyce true-crime z wykorzystaniem narzędzi badawczych zaproponowanych przez Marię Wojtak (Wprowadzenie do genologii, Lublin 2019). Przedmiotem analizy jest nie tylko część tekstualna podcastu, ale również jego aspekt audialny. Autorka konkretyzuje terminologię dotyczącą podcastu oraz zarysowuje szerszą perspektywę do zbadania podcastu w kontekście genologicznym (jako pojęcia nowego i wciąż dynamicznie ewoluującego, pozbawionego wzorca gatunkowego) i jego korelacji w sferze medialnej.
    The article studies in detail two examples of the so-called 'true-crime podcasts', following the genological analysis scheme introduced by Maria Wojtak in Introduction to genology. It addresses not only their textual aspect, but also the audial part. In a broader perspective, this work attempts a systematic investigation of the 'podcast' in the genological context (as a relatively new and still dynamically evolving notion, it lacks a genre template) and its correlations within the mediasphere.

    This article is an example of the practical application of natural video recordings to qualitative research. It describes the videographic method in relation to an ongoing project concerned with forms of knowledge communication within the field of migration. In this field, our visual approach provides a novel perspective on the well-known questions of cross-cultural communication and integration. Firstly, I want to discuss Videography and Genre Analysis in the form of an iterative, audiovisual data collection procedure and define the process of sequence selection and interpretation. Secondly, I will demonstrate how communicative structures are analyzed at different levels of Genre Analysis through the minute analysis of a short audiovisual data sequence from a roadshow that took place during a Latin American theme week. As well as detailing the process of gathering information on a situational level, I want to demonstrate the potential of the analysis to gather information about the structural environment on a transsituational level. Through this discussion, I will also outline the importance of additional contextual information that – by means of further ethnographic research – could be uncovered in our fieldwork.

    The aim of this paper is to examine whether genre overlapping and register variation have implications on the translation outcome. To this end, the English and the Italian version of the letter sent by Sergio Marchionne to the President of Confindustria – Italy’s most important employers’ organisation – will be analysed. The decision to investigate Marchionne’s statement is based on the fact that this is a letter disseminated in the form of a press release, which also contains highly-technical terminology pertaining to Employment Relations (ER) discourse. Consequently, a number of issues might arise when deciding which strategy should be used in terms of genre analysis and register when translating specialised texts.

    The Polish language in the French letters of Queen Marysieńka – function and genre analysis The article presents a function and genre analysis of the use of Polish words (transcoded markers) in the French letters of Queen Marysieńka Sobieska to her husbands: Jan Sobiepan Zamoyski and King Jan III Sobieski. The functional characterization distinguishes an emotive function (based on the strategy of including emotionally and stylistically charged elements in L2 = the second language), e.g. świnia (pig), a referential function (based on the strategy of including names of realities belonging to the space of L2), e.g. pospolite ruszenie (mass levy), and a deictic function (based on the inclusion of proper names functioning primarily in L2), e.g. Jaworów. In reference to the genre analysis, the role of personal and factual factors, which imply the use of L2 in the letters of bilingual people, is observed, as well as the place of elements from L2 in the structure of letters. It is concluded that the presence of elements in L2 does not affect the cohesion of the letters, but broadens their potential and proves the author’s full competence in both languages.

    The signicance of a research article abstract has recently turned the focus of linguistics on the Genre analysis of abstract articles. Taking into account this wide research topic, this study aims at investigating the micro structures in the linguistics and engineering abstracts. In the previous studies, this comparison has not been addressed by the researches, hence the present study aims to ll in the gap. The corpus contained 30 abstracts, 15 of linguistics and 15 of engineering. The micro analysis was carried out on the basis of Swales and Feak's (2009) model. The results revealed that there was no very signicant dierence between the linguistics and engineering abstracts at the micro level. This study is deemed to be benecial for the researchers as it provides a framework of analyzing two dierent disciplines in terms of their abstracts.

    Opis:
    Not common and not widespread in literary texts, such as anthroponymic or toponymic names, but quit functionally important can be considered mythonyms. Their role is revealed in the study of genre and stylistic features of some works of art of the school curriculum in Ukrainian literature for senior classes and worldviews of individual characters of those texts. The in-depth study of mythological artistic onyms is essential for tenth-grades. On the example of two works – Mykhailo Kotsyubynsky’s novel “Shadows og Forgotten Ancestors” and Lesya Ukrainka’s drama-extravaganza “Forest Song” – 10th grades can explore the role of the mythological names as one of the features of the drama genre, neo-romanticism style and ideology of cosmocentrism and paganism. That is why mythonyms need to be studied in depth within the genre, structural-stylistic and ideational-conceptual areas of research of a work of art. Like names of toponymic origin, mythological names combine both traditional etymological meanings and author’s additional meanings, which are valuable only in the context of a particular literary work. However, such names can often be symbolic. For example, Mavka is the heroine of Lesya Ukrainka’s neo-romantic drama-extravaganza “Forest Song”. The article outlines the optimal approach to the study of literary texts of the school curriculum in Ukrainian literature for 10th grade on the basis of genre, stylistic and ideological and conceptual analysis with in-depth study of mythological names. The paper identifies and proposes the basic requirements for the topics and objectives of the lessons devoted to the study of literary texts through involvement in the analysis of mythological names. The algorithm for constructing educational situations has been developed, the content of which corresponds to the proper names of methological characters and the author’s meanings contained in them.
    Не поширеними та не широко розповсюдженими в літературних текстах, як антропонімічні найменування чи топонімічні назви, проте достатньо функціонально важливими можна вважати міфоніми. Їхня роль виявляється в ході дослідження жанрових і стильових ознак деяких художніх творів шкільної програми з української літератури для старших класів та світоглядних орієнтирів окремих персонажів цих текстів. Поглиблене вивчення міфологічних художніх онімів істотно вагомим є для десятикласників. На прикладі двох творів – повісті Михайла Коцюбинського «Тіні забутих предків» та драми-феєрії Лесі Українки «Лісова пісня» – учні 10 класу можуть дослідити роль міфологічної назви як однієї з ознак жанру драми-феєрії, стилю неоромантизму та ідеологій космоцентризм та язичництво. Саме тому міфоніми необхідно поглиблено вивчати в межах жанрового, структурно-стильового та ідеаційно-концептуального напрямів дослідження художнього твору. Подібно до назв топонімічного походження міфологічні найменування поєднують і традиційні етимологічні значення, й авторські додаткові смисли, які є цінними тільки в контексті певного літературного твору. Разом із тим часто такі назви можуть виступати символічними. До прикладу, Мавка – героїня неоромантичної драмі-феєрії Лесі Українки «Лісова пісня». У статті окреслено оптимальний підхід до вивчення художніх текстів шкільної програми з української літератури для 10 класу на основі жанрового, стильового та ідейно-концептуального аналізів із поглибленим вивченням міфологічних назв. У роботі визначено й запропоновано основні вимоги до тем та мети уроків, присвячених дослідженню літературних текстів через залучення до аналізу міфологічних найменувань. Розроблено алгоритм побудови навчальних ситуацій, зміст яких відповідає власним назвам міфологічних персонажів та авторським значенням, укладеним у них.

    The paper focuses on presentation skills of future managers in the context of their communication competences. Communication skills can give a job-seeker a significant advantage on the labour market. The research makes significant theoretical and empirical contributions to the process of developing the interpersonal communication skills and competences of the future managers, e.g. the students of management. Genre analysis and action research were applied with the aim of deeper understanding and possible explanation of different aspects of the students' presentation skills on professional topics. The outcome of our study showed that the most problematic areas included stylistic and pragmalinguistic aspects of formal organization of the presentations.
    Artykuł skupia się na umiejętnościach prezentacyjnych przyszłych menedżerów w kontekście ich kompetencji komunikacyjnych. Umiejętności komunikacyjne mogą dać osobom poszukującym pracy znaczną przewagę na rynku pracy. Niniejsze badanie wnosi znaczący teoretyczny i empiryczny wkład w proces rozwijania umiejętności interpersonalnych i kompetencji przyszłych menedżerów, np. studentów zarządzania. W celu pogłębiania wiedzy i możliwości wyjaśnienia różnych aspektów umiejętności prezentacji studentów w kwestiach zawodowych zastosowano analizę gatunkową i badania w działaniu. Wyniki niniejszego badania wykazały, że najbardziej problematyczne obszary obejmują stylistyczne i pragmalingwistyczne aspekty formalnej organizacji prezentacji.

    Artykuł prezentuje analizę genologiczną ważnego społecznie tekstu – wywiadu Anny Dziewit-Meller z Janiną Bąk pod tytułem „58 blizn”. W tym konkretnym tekście autorka odnalazła dwa moduły interakcyjne: wywiad jako intymne wyznanie (perspektywa upublicznienia prywatności, coming out) oraz wywiad – jako społeczny manifest. Te dwie splatające się perspektywy zostały rozpoznane na poziomie gatunkowych aspektów: struktury, miejsc strategicznych, przywołanego tematu choroby psychicznej oraz celu wywiadu. Na poziomie pragmatycznym analiza wypowiedzi dziennikarki i bohaterki wywiadu świadczą o świadomości gatunkowej, o świadomości publicznego odbioru tekstu. Kompozycyjne połączenie intymnego wyznania z publicystycznym, społecznym wymiarem ma wyraźny edukacyjny charakter, ma wręcz funkcję społecznej interwencji. Analizowany wywiad jest także realizacją dyskursu. Stanowi bowiem ważny ślad dyskursu o wykluczeniu, chorobie, ujawnieniu intymności. Jednocześnie jego społeczny kontekst wyraża się w umiejętności definiowania własnej tożsamości, nazywania trudnych doświadczeń ze świadomością „publicznego” funkcjonowania w świecie mediów.
    This article presents a text genre analysis of a socially significant text: an interview by Anna Dziewit-Meller with Janina Bąk, entitled “58 blizn” (58 scars). This text features two interactional modules: the interview as an intimate statement (making privacy public, coming out) and the interview as a social manifesto. These two intertwined perspectives are represented at the level of the text genre: structure, strategic points, the discussed topic of mental disorder, and the purpose of the interview. At the pragmatic level, the analysis of the statements made by the journalist and the interviewee of the text testifies to their being aware that the interview is a genre intended for public reception. The compositional combination of an intimate testimony with a journalistic, interventionist and social dimension has a clear educational character, and can even serve as a social intervention itself. The analysed text, as far as its genre is concerned, also has a discursive dimension. It is an evident manifestation of the discourse on exclusion, illness, and the disclosure of intimacy. At the same time, its social context is expressed through the ability to define one’s own identity, to speak openly about difficult experiences with the awareness of “being public” when functioning in the world of the media.

    The urgency of this paper is conditioned by the importance for the Ukrainian literary process of examining the peculiarities of literary works devoted to the Russian-Ukrainian war (2014–?). In the article, the author reviews the genre status of Andriy Sova’s Zvit za serpen ‘14. The research indicates the syncretic character of Sova’s reportage and reconstructs the social and cultural conditions for the creation of the text. In addition, the author draws attention to the language of reportage (idiostyle), which is saturated not only with emotions, but also with technical and military terminology. It was found that Zvit za serpen ‘14 contains a specific chronotope conditioned by the dynamics of events in 2014. Another important aim of the research was to investigate how Sova strengthens the reference pact with the reader. As a result, it was recognized that Sova’s strategy is to declare the truth (“I am describing only what I have seen”), frequent quoting of other soldiers, as well as posting photos, which strengthens the documentary character of the book.
    Актуальність цього дослідження зумовлена важливістю для українського літера-турного процесу вияву своєрідності літературних творів, що присвячені проблематиці росій-сько-української війни (2014–?). Мета наукової розвідки — здійснити аналіз жанру репортажу Андрія Сови (Плохіша) Звіт за серпень ‘14. Унаслідок здійсненого дослідження не лише з’я-совано тип жанру аналізованого тексту, що має гібридний, синкретичний характер, оскільки поєднує різні, часто гетерогенні жанрові ознаки, але й визначено специфіку суспільного та культурного контекстів, що призвели до його виникнення. Охарактеризовано систему ознак ідіостилю Андрія Сови (Плохіша), до яких належать: суб’єктивізм, емоційність, схильність до вживання професіоналізмів тощо. Крім того, розкрито структуру текстового хронотопу дослі-джуваного тексту, що зумовлена динамікою подій 2014 року. У розвідці виявлено й основну письменницьку стратегію, за допомогою якої відбувається “зміцнення” референційного пактуавтора із читачем; простежуємо наявність безпосередніх відавторських заяв декларативного характеру, як-от: “пишу лише те, що бачив”, розлогих прямих цитувань учасників боїв, залучення візуального ряду у вигляді фотографії, що ілюструє документальний характер видання.

    The aim of the article is a genological analysis of the oldest Polish-language encyclopedia, i.e. Informacyja matematyczna [Mathematical information] by Wojciech Bystrzonowski (first edition 1743). It is a continuous text divided into chapters devoted to various fields of knowledge included in the groups of topics that deal with theoretical and practical problems. This conception of text influenced its genre diversity: theoretical parts were overpowered by genres serving an informative function (e. g. description, list, index), but sometimes also a persuasive function (e. g. a treaty, a matter), while the practical parts included genres fulfilling a predominantly directive function (e. g. military regulations, instructions). The genres combining informative and ludic functions were also marginally present (e. g. Latin-language mnemotechnical poems woven into the text). Such extreme internal diversity of genres had several reasons: a) high diversity of topics, b) reference to silva rerum literary formula developed in the Baroque period, c) reference to and benefit from dozens of different studies conducted by Polish and Latin-language authors. Based on the example of selected parts of the text (e. g. descriptions), it was proved that we can observe in Bystrzonowski’s compendium a development process of a new genre, i.e. an encyclopedic entry.

    The author focuses on the history of the Polish scientific educational style. The 18th century science in is an area for empirical, theoretical, and practical knowledge of the natural world. The article discusses a Polish text by Krzysztof Kluk, Zwierząt domowych i dzikich, osobliwie krajowych, historii naturalnej początki i gospodarstwo (The beginnings of natural history and husbandry of farmed and wild animals, of domestic animals in particular) (vol. 1, 1779). The author provides us with a basic outline of zoology in 18th century and proposes a lecture on animals living in Poland. His lecture has two narrative planes: scientific and colloquial. In this article, the author proposes a methodology of text analysis. Careful stylistic analysis of 18th century scientific texts shows that Polish handbooks of zoology and economy have features that characterize modern scientific texts, namely bilingual communication, preference for specialist language, rhetorical figures, use of specific verb forms and distinct narrative structure.

    Memy interenetowe to zróżnicowane formy wizualne: od obrazka z błyskotliwym podpisem do różnorodnych grafik, ruchomych lub statycznych, często zawierających większe partie tekstu. Mem jako nośnik informacji jest formatem złożonym – wyczerpuje po części definicję gatunku dziennikarskiego. Analiza memów wymaga przemyślanej metodologii. W wypadku tego krótkiego, acz wieloaspektowego minigatunku niezbędne są mieszane metody badawcze. Warto przy tym pamiętać, że mem jako jednostka to nie tylko warstwa wizualna i słowna, ale również wachlarz narzędzi – możliwość oceny oraz skomentowania przez użytkowników.
    Internet memes are differentiated visual forms: ranging from images with witty captions to various mobile or static graphics, which often contain larger fragments of text. A meme as a carrier of information is a complex unit, which partly uses the definition of journalistic writing. The anlaysis of memes requires careful methodology. In the case of this short but multiaspectual mini-genre, mixed research methods are necessary. It is worth remembering that a meme, as a unit, is not only a visual and verbal layer, but also a spectrum of tools, the possibility of assessment and comments by users.

    The article offers a linguistic analysis of the text of The Litany to the Blessed John Paul II, one of the most recent realizations of the litany prayer convention (created in 2011). As the background, the article also includes The Litany to the Blesseds Francis and Hyacinth of 2012. The genre pattern of the litany includes a compositional scheme of a litany prayer, fixed through tradition. In the author’s interpretation this prayer is a genre taking the form of a collection since it consists of the litany proper (a set of calls to a person from the sacred realm and repeated supplication formulas) and associated texts. The analyzed litany has a composition which is typical for the genre as it contains all components of the pattern, including clichéd ones. In several calls in the litany proper, it reinforces the image of the blessed John Paul II as a man of heroic virtues, perfectly fulfilling his priestly and apostolic mission. The litany has a form of a supplicating and worshipping prayer and contains all stylistic determinants of a litany. It is conventional, dialogic, formulic and solemn, specific in wording style and not very decorative. The author argues that the genre pattern, despite its ossification, constitutes a set of rules enabling the generation of new texts.
    Artykuł jest lingwistyczną analizą tekstu Litanii do błogosławionego Jana Pawła II, jednej z najnowszych realizacji konwencji modlitwy litanijnej (powstała bowiem w roku 2011). Uwzględnia też w tle Litanię do błogosławionych Franciszka i Hiacynty z roku 2012. Wzorzec gatunkowy litanii zawiera utrwalony przez tradycję schemat kompozycyjny modlitwy litanijnej. Modlitwa ta jest w interpretacji autorki gatunkiem w formie kolekcji, ponieważ składa się z litanii właściwej (zbioru wezwań do osoby ze sfery sakralnej i powtarzanych formuł błagalnych) oraz tekstów stowarzyszonych. Analizowana litania ma typową dla gatunku kompozycję, gdyż zawiera wszystkie (także kliszowane) składniki wzorca. Utrwala w kilku wezwaniach, umieszczonych w litanii właściwej, obraz błogosławionego Jana Pawła II jako człowieka o heroicznych cnotach, wypełniającego swą kapłańską i apostolską misję w sposób doskonały. Jest formą modlitwy błagalnej i wielbiącej. Zawiera wszystkie wyznaczniki stylistyczne litanii. Jest szablonowa, dialogowa, formuliczna i podniosła, konkretna w stylu wysłowienia i mało ozdobna. Autorka dowodzi, że wzorzec gatunkowy litanii mimo skostnienia służy jako zbiór reguł pozwalających redagować nowe teksty.
    Der Beitrag stellt die linguistische Textanalyse der Litanei zum seligen Diener Gottes Johannes Paul II dar, die als die neuste Realisierungsform der Konvention der Litanei (entstanden im Jahre 2011) gilt. In der Arbeit wird auch auf die Litanei zu den seligen Dienern Gottes Jacinta und Francesco (2012) Bezug genommen. Das Textmuster der Litanei umfasst das tradierte Kompositionsschema eines Litaneigebets. Dieses Gebet ist - so die These der Autorin – eine Textsorte, die die Form einer Kollektion annimmt, weil sie aus der eigentlichen Litanei (also aus einer Sammlung an Anrufungen einer Person aus dem sakralen Bereich und der wiederholbaren Bittformeln) sowie aus sekundären Textteilen besteht. Die analysierte Litanei hat eine für die Gattung/Textsorte typische Komposition, weil sie alle (auch klischeehafte) Elemente eines Musters enthält. Die Litanei fixiert in den Anrufungen, die in der eigentlichen Litanei enthalten sind, das Bild des seligen Johannes Paul II als Menschen, der heroisch war und der auch seinen priesterlichen und göttlichen Auftrag vorzüglich erfüllte. Die Litanei ist eine Form der Fürbitte und des Lobpreisgebets; sie enthält alle stilistischen Merkmale einer Litanei und ist schablonenhaft, dialogisch, gehoben und konkret im Äußerungsstil, auch arm an Schmuck. Die Autorin beweist, dass das Textmuster/Gattungsmuster der Litanei trotz der Erstarrung als eine Menge von Regeln fungiert, die neue Texte entstehen lässt.

    Presidential primary elections are an important part of the American political landscape. This nominating process has been incorporated into multiple European political systems. At the turn of 2019/2020, the Confederation Liberty and Independence – a Polish coalition of right-wing parties and movements – organized a nationwide presidential primary. While it was not the first time presidential primaries took place in Poland, the discussed event was clearly the most impactful. The article investigates the speeches delivered at the final convention in Warsaw. In the American literature, they are referred to as concession speeches. As presidential primaries have not been a significant part of the Polish political system, the genre of concession speech has not been analyzed in detail. The study investigates the speeches through the lens of Rhetorical Genre Criticism to discuss the influence of American political culture on Polish politics. Both situational constraints and linguistic features were analyzed. Subsequently, the speeches were compared to the standard variant of third-party concession speeches. The results show that the speeches bear similarities to their American counterparts. However, the politicians of the Confederation created unique forms that, despite being grounded in American tradition, took inspiration from European and Polish political discourses.

    Opis:
    The paper tackles the issue of law-related cinematic and television productions, metaphorically described as reel justice, in the context of teaching Legal English as a foreign language. In the light of current trends in ESP and film pedagogy, an integrated skills teaching approach is presented that attempts to invoke subject-specific, intercultural and language knowledge of Polish learners of Legal English. The core of the paper focuses on different film-based tasks, exploiting the American series Boston Legal as a didactic material. The paper concludes with recommendations for further research.

    Der Beitrag untersucht die Gattungen der historischen Dichtung und ihre Besonderheiten, die auch in der Autoreninterpretationen bestehen. Es wird unterstrichen, dass nur die Integration der Literatur und Geschichte im Mittelpunkt der Theoriediskussion stehen sollte. Zur Analyse wurden zwei historische Novellen gewählt: „Ursula“ von G. Keller und „Das Amulett“ von C. F. Meyer. Die beiden Novellen haben die Ereignisse der Reformation im Mittelpunkt der Sujetentwicklung. Für unsere Zielsetzung ist wichtig, welche Aufgaben der Autor der historischen Novelle erfüllt, wie er das macht und worin die praktische Absicht dieser Gattung besteht.
    The paper deals with historical fiction, the specific features of which, apart from the genre characteristics, consist in author’s interpretation of the historical events. It is highlighted that the integration of literature and history may add to history studying. Two remarkable novellas by Swiss authors of the period of the Realism were chosen for the analysis. Both novellas report the events within the Reformation. The predominant aim of the investigation was the determination of the objectives of the authors of historical novellas, the way of presentation and the practical importance of the genre.

    The article is an announcement of a PhD dissertation which will discuss the current genre pattern of a handbook for teaching Polish as a foreign language, a set of variants and paradoxes of this pattern and the direction of the latest changes / intraspecific tendencies including their causes. The article refers to Maria Wojtak’s concepts related to genre analysis and selected Joanna Nocoń’s views on the analysis of the school textbook as a didactic genre. The article primarily discusses four analytical aspects that were used during the analysis of textbooks for teaching Polish as a foreign language: stylo-linguistic, structural, pragmatic and cognitive.
    Artykuł stanowi zapowiedź rozprawy doktorskiej, która dotyczyć będzie aktualnego wzorca gatunkowego podręcznika do nauczania języka polskiego jako obcego (jpjo), przedstawienia zbioru wariantów i paradoksów tegoż wzorca oraz kierunku najnowszych przemian / tendencji wewnątrzgatunkowych z uwzględnieniem ich przyczyn. W artykule odwołano się do koncepcji Marii Wojtak – związanej z analizą gatunkową sensu stricto oraz przywołano wybrane poglądy Jolanty Nocoń – dotyczące analizy podręcznika szkolnego jako gatunku dydaktycznego. Praca zawiera przede wszystkim omówienie czterech aspektów analitycznych, którymi kierowano się podczas analizy genologicznej podręczników do nauczania jpjo: stylowojęzykowego, strukturalnego, pragmatycznego i poznawczego.

    The present paper presents linguistic analysis of the texts extracted from the ABOUT pages in 24 fashion blogs topping the list of influential fashion blogs in 2018. The fashion blogs under consideration are viewed as belonging to personal style fashion blog type. The present research aims at analyzing the way generic features of this type of discourse are displayed by the texts under consideration. The Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) text analysis technique was employed to study the texts in order to explore how consistent they are with social media text type (Twitter, Facebook, blog) according to pre-defined psychological and linguistic categories. LIWC output in relation to each text was interpreted in terms of traditional LIWC dimensions and LIWC variables. The main findings suggest that, linguistically, most texts tend to combine features that are typical of highly personal writing and formal writing intended for official use.
    Artykuł został poświęcony analizie lingwistycznej tekstów, wybranych ze stroninternetowych “O blogu” / “O sobie” 24 blogów, poświęconych modzie iznajdujących się na liście najbardziej wpływowych blogów modowych w 2018 r.Uważamy, że blogi fashion należą do gatunku osobistych blogów modowych. Celemniniejszego badania jest analiza tego, jak specyfika, cechująca ten rodzajdyskursu, znajduje swój przejaw w tekstach, będących przedmiotem badania wniniejszym artykule. Do badania tekstów korzystano z programu komputerowegodo analizy tekstowej “Metoda badania lingwistycznego i kalkulacji słów”w celu weryfikacji, jak bardzo badaneteksty odpowiadają charakterystykam rodzajowym tekstów siecispołecznościowych (twitter, facebook, blogi) odpowiednio do określonych zapomocą programu kategorii psychologicznych oraz lingwistycznych. Wynikianalizy każdego tekstu traktowano pod kątem tradycyjnych i zmiennych kategorii, wytypowanych przez program. Głównewniosku umożliwiają założenie, że z lingwistycznego punktu widzenia większośćtekstów łączy w sobie cechy charakterystyczne dla komunikacji personalnejoraz oficjalnej, przeznaczonej do użytku oficjalnego.

    The paper presents an analysis of Obama’s and Trump’s inaugural addresses with a view to evidencing how language can be manipulated and also reveal the speaker’s political and ideological stance through the use of marked and evaluative lexical items. The language sample selected for analysis contains personal pronouns and possessive adjectives ‘you, your, we, us, our, ours, ourselves, they, their, them, themselves’, determiner ‘other’ and the term ‘America’ with all its derivative forms as used in the two speeches.
    Artykuł przedstawia analizę przemówień inauguracyjnych Baracka Obamy i Donalda Trumpa. Celem analizy jest wykazanie, w jaki sposób językiem można manipulować i w jaki sposób język ujawnia polityczne i ideologiczne stanowisko mówcy, np. przy użyciu rejestru specjalnego oraz wartościujących środków językowych. Na wyrażenia poddane analizie w niniejszym artykule składają się angielskie zaimki osobowe „you, your, we, us, our, ours, ourselves, they, their, them, themselves”, zaimek „other” oraz termin „America” wraz ze wszystkimi jego derywatami morfologicznymi zastosowanymi w omawianych przemówieniach.

    In my paper I analyse the art of selected Polish conceptual artists, whose art and creative strategies clearly attempt to analyse the essence of time. I consider exceptional in this context the work of Roman Opalka (Opałka 1965 /1 - ∞), Natalia LL's recordings (Permanent recordings of time), Zdzislaw Jurkiewicz's Saturn and Jupiter Ways, and the projects by Stanisław Dróżdż (FROM TO) that touch upon various levels of time. In the presented analyses, I refer to the psychological and philosophical concept of perception and aperception, as well as an anthropological understanding of time. In my view, conceptual art is the genre whose characteristics lie in the conscious cognition and deep intellectual analysis of the reality surrounding the artist. With regard to the active role of the mind in the process of perception the aperception of time may be a more appropriate term.
