    Despite being an underreported topic in the news media, gender-based violence (GBV) undermines the health, dignity, security and autonomy of its victims. Research has studied many of the factors that generate or maintain this kind of violence. However, the influence of the media is still uncertain. This paper used Big Data techniques to explore how GBV is depicted and reported in digital news media. By feeding neural networks with news, the topic information associated with each article can be recovered. Our findings show a relationship between GBV news and public awareness, the effect of well-known GBV cases, and the intrinsic thematic relationship of GBV news with justice themes.

    Gender-based violence (GBV) is a global menace that has taken worrisome dimension in the Nigerian society especially among in-school adolescents. It is one of the challenges militating against total development of school aged children in Nigeria; hence, the purpose of the study was to investigate the form, causes and consequences of gender based violence among in-school adolescents in Ilorin metropolis in Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive research of the survey type. There are 18 secondary school in Ilorin. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 10 schools from the available schools in Ilorin metropolis while random sampling technique was used to select 20 representatives from each selected secondary schools. A total of 200 representatives were used for the study. The result revealed a significant difference in the violence against male and female in-school adolescents. Females were shown to be more physically and sexually harassed as well as marginalized when compared to their male counterparts. The result would enable education stakeholders in Nigeria, especially classroom teachers, to be aware and alert on potential gender based violence against female students.

Celem prezentowanej pracy jest dostarczenie rzetelnego narzędzia do mierzenia skali narażenia pracowników na molestowanie ze względu na płeć.Materiał i metodyAnalizy właściwości psychometrycznych Kwestionariusza do diagnozy narażenia kobiet i mężczyzn na zjawisko molestowania ze względu na płeć przeprowadzono na podstawie badań kwestionariuszowych na pracownikach różnych grup zawodowych (N = 333).WynikiNa podstawie eksploracyjnej i konfirmacyjnej analizy czynnikowej wyodrębniono 5 skal kwestionariusza (5 typów zachowań o charakterze molestowania ze względu na płeć): Zachowania o charakterze przymusu seksualnego, Zachowania wyrażające niepożądane zainteresowanie seksualne, Molestowanie ze względu na przynależność do danej płci, Molestowanie za odejście od „typowej” roli płciowej i Obraźliwe uwagi dotyczące pracownika lub jego życia prywatnego. Współczynniki zgodności wewnętrznej α Cronbacha wynoszą: dla całej skali – 0,93, a dla podskal – 0,85–0,90.WnioskiRezultaty przeprowadzonych analiz wskazują, że Kwestionariusz do diagnozy narażenia kobiet i mężczyzn na zjawisko molestowania ze względu na płeć w miejscu pracy cechuje się zadowalającymi charakterystykami psychometrycznymi.     BackgroundPolish research on gender-based sexual harassment at the workplace is relatively rare. The presented work aimed at developing a reliable tool to measure this phenomenon.Material and MethodsThe analyses of the psychometric properties of the Questionnaire of Exposure to Workplace Sex-Based Harassment were carried out on the basis of questionnaire data from employees of different occupational groups (N = 333).ResultsOn the basis of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, 5 questionnaire scales were distinguished (5 types of behavior indicating sexual harassment): Sexual coercion, Unwanted sexual interest, Gender membership harassment, Harassment for deviating from gender role and Offensive comments on the employee or his/her private life. Cronbach’s α indicator of internal consistency for the whole questionnaire equaled 0.93; and for particular scales it ranged 0.85–0.90.ConclusionsThe results of the performed analysis show that the Questionnaire of Exposure to Workplace Sex-Based Harassment has satisfactory psychometric characteristic.     The article endeavours to characterize key issues raised by Ananda Devi (1957), a francophone writer and poet born in Mauritius who has been living in France for many years. The analysis is based primarily on two novels that were translated into Polish by Krzysztof Jarosz: Le sari vert / Zielone sari and Ève de ses décombres / Ewa ze swych zgliszcz. Already these two novels enable us to perceive the uniqueness of Devi’s writings, whose clear commitment to the discussion about burning social problems equals its commitment to the discussion with literature: its tradition, present status quo, planned future. Devi poses questions about national, linguistic, cultural, and sexual identity; about wasted opportunities of emancipation from the shackles of colonialism; about possibilities of freedom in the environment of systemic subjugation. The micro perspective enables her to show some macro phenomena: continuous production of “dispensable people,” human robots exploited to produce goods for the rich North and the rich West, sacked overnight when using cheap labour force stops bringing profit; systemic racism used by the law-observing state to perform illegal acts. In the world based on the economy of profit, literature, and particularly poetry, becomes a unique weapon, because it serves no purpose. Reading and writing are revolutionary activities, looking for brothers and sisters in poetry is a chance to build a radical International that includes also (or rather, first of all) men and women who have experienced rupture, life in two different dimensions, languages, groups (choosing French by a Mauritian was a declaration, Devi describes the experience of splitting when portraying Sad in Ève de ses décombres). Devi is particularly concerned with the fate of children doomed to failure due to their “bad” descent, skin colour, or sex, children who are guilty from birth. Systemic inequalities and inherited violence in humiliated and ashamed communities mainly afflict women, who are reduced to bodies that may be conquered, beaten, exploited as labour force. Devi succeeds in presenting silent or nameless women not as victims (although she does not underplay their suffering, on the contrary), but as heroes who become reborn after traumas or in next generations, able to take revenge, risking the scraps of stability and false safety to show their presence, to exert influence, to reverberate. The flame of wrath experienced by Devi’s characters, also those burnt alive, as the character in Le sari vert, should (and will) be a seedbed of change, because you cannot burn all women pregnant with silence. Devi accuses (like the author of Les Misérables), she is not afraid of elevation, as panache is necessary for a coup, for changing the status quo, the order based on lawlessness, for social, common awakening.

    This article is an attempt to present the phenomenon of gender-based violence (violencia de género) in Spanish society. The author describes its presence in three areas – everyday life, legislation, and contemporary drama. An important turning point is the year 2004, when the Act on Integral Measures for the Protection against Gender Violence was adopted (Ley Organica 1/2004, de 28 de diciembre, de Medidas de Protección Integral contra la Violencia de Género), thanks to which women have gained special legal protection. Furthermore, additional regulations were introduced to raise the effectiveness of the fight against macho cultural stereotypes. An element of this struggle are also three dramatic works written by contemporary authors – Angélica Liddell, Itziar Pascual and Antonio Morcillo López – which, through a different approach to the problem, reveal a multitude of its aspects as well as diverse creative models adopted by the playwrights.

    From the early nineties of the 20th century Latin American region has experienced an endless wave of crimes committed against women. One of the most emblematic representations of this kind of violence are feminicides. It is estimated that every day in Latin America die approximately 12 women just because of their gender. According to the criminal statistics the country with the highest level of feminicide is still Mexico. Although the Mexican authorities, after the famous Campo Algodonero sentence from November 16, 2009, were obliged to introduce special public policies orientated to eliminate all forms of violence against women, the number of feminicides, supported by the impunity, drug trafficking business and corruption, is constantly growing. This essay intents to explain various concepts, both legal and sociological, related to feminicide. Special attention will be given to the way the press and media present a victim and a perpetrator of this kind of crime.
    A partir de los años noventa del siglo XX, la región latinoamericana experimenta una oleada interminable de los crímenes dirigidos contra las mujeres. Una de las representaciones más emblemáticas de esta “epidemia” de violencia constituyen los feminicidios. Se estima que en América Latina cada día mueren aproximadamente doce mujeres por causa de su género. Según las estadísticas criminales, el país con una tasa más alta de feminicidios sigue siendo México. Aunque las autoridades mexicanas, después de la sentencia de Campo Algodonero de 16 de noviembre de 2009, fueron obligadas de implementar unas políticas públicas orientadas a erradicar todas las formas de violencia contra las mujeres, el número de feminicidios, nutrido por la impunidad, el narcotráfico y la corrupción, no para de crecer. En el presente trabajo se intentará explicar varios conceptos, tanto jurídicos como sociológicos, que se esconden bajo el término de feminicidio. Una atención muy especial será prestada al modo de hablar sobre las víctimas y los victimarios de este crimen en los medios de comunicación.

    Badania na temat przemocy ze względu na płeć GBV (Gender-Based Violence) są ważnym narzędziem do oceny skali przestępczości, zwłaszcza zjawiska przemocy. Dotychczasowe badania międzynarodowe dotyczyły przede wszystkim przemocy wobec kobiet. Pierwsze z nich, IVAWS (International Violence Against Women Survey), stanowiło wyzwanie dla naukowców, organów ścigania i organizacji pozarządowych. Kolejne europejskie badanie przemocy wobec kobiet zostało przeprowadzone przez Agencję Praw Podstawowych (Fundamental Right Agency – FRA). Obecnie planowane jest przez Eurostat badanie GBV o szerszym zakresie, dotyczącym zarówno przemocy wobec kobiet, jak i mężczyzn. Jest to jednocześnie nowe wyzwanie metodologiczne. Projekt Eurostatu obejmuje różne rodzaje i formy przemocy, od przemocy domowej po przemoc w pracy, w sieci, mobbing itp. Pierwszym etapem był tzw. pretest oraz pilotaż realizowany w kilku państwach UE, w tym także w Polsce. Badanie podstawowe jest planowane na 2022 r. we wszystkich krajach Unii Europejskiej. Podstawowym narzędziem GBV jest kwestionariusz ankiety. Pytania obejmują m.in. intensywność różnych rodzajów i form przemocy wobec kobiet i mężczyzn. W interpretacji wyników, zwłaszcza w perspektywie międzynarodowej, należy zwrócić uwagę na różnice w postrzeganiu przemocy przez ofiary, a także w jej zgłaszaniu. Różnice dotyczą również przyczyn, form i konsekwencji przemocy. Jak właściwie ocenić rozbieżności w rozmiarach i uwarunkowaniu przemocy w ramach płci? W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienia metodologiczne i doświadczenia związane z realizacją badania pilotażowego.
    Research on gender-based violence (GBV) is an important tool for assessing the scale of crime, especially the phenomenon of violence. International studies to date have focused primarily on violence against women. The first of these, IVAWS (International Violence Against Women Survey), was intended as a challenge to scientists, law enforcement agencies and NGOs. Another European study on violence against women was conducted by the FRA (Fundamental Right Agency). Eurostat is currently planning a new GBV study, which is more comprehensive because violence against women and men will be considered. This study faces new methodological challenges. The GBV project covers various forms of violence, from domestic violence to violence at work, online, mobbing, etc. The first stage is the so-called pre-test, and the pilot was implemented in several EU countries, including Poland. Basic research is planned for 2022 in all European Union countries. The basic GBV research tool is a questionnaire whose questions include the intensity of various types and forms of violence against women and men. In the interpretation of the results, especially in an international perspective, attention should be paid to the differences in the perception of violence by victims, as well as in the scale of reporting violence. The differences also concern the causes, forms and consequences of violence. How can discrepancies in the size and conditioning of gender-based violence be assessed? This article presents methodological issues and experiences related to the implementation of these pilot studies.

    Przemoc na tle płciowym w hiszpańskim teatrze denuncjacyjnym: Podejście do problemu w czterech tekstach współczesnych Dzisiejszy teatr hiszpański wykazuje wyraźne zaangażowanie w życie społeczeństwa, w którym się rodzi, i czyni to poprzez krytyczne odzwierciedlenie jego obrazu w sposób, który pomaga ustanowić nowe paradygmaty dotyczące kontrowersyjnych, najbardziej niepokojących kwestii. Jedną z nich jest przemoc, a zwłaszcza różne przejawy przemocy ze względu na płeć. Sztuki tego rodzaju zaświadczały o przemocy na tle płciowym od zawsze, na przykład już w teatrze barokowym XVII wieku. Społeczne oddziaływanie tego tematu na sztuki barokowe etapy mają w naszym społeczeństwie wielkie znaczenie, ponieważ przez stulecia odzwierciedlało nie tylko koncepcję całkowitego poddania się kobiety patriarchalnej władzy mężczyzny, ale także sprzyjało jego zakorzenieniu. Od połowy XX wieku do dzisiaj pojawiła się interesująca lista tytułów, które są próbą zwrócenia uwagi hiszpańskich dramaturgów na problem przemocy seksualnej i wszystkiego, co ją otacza: ustawodawstwa i raportów (sądowych, kryminalnych medycznych), przejawów specjalistycznej opieki socjologicznej, zdrowotnej i psychologicznej, działań pedagogicznych na rzecz nieletnich itp. La violencia de género en el teatro español de denuncia: Acercamiento al problema en cuatro textos contemporáneos El teatro español actual manifiesta claramente su compromiso ético con la sociedad en la que nace, y lo hace reflejando críticamente la sociedad contemporánea de manera que colabora en la fijación de nuevos paradigmas en lo concerniente a los temas polémicos y que más nos preocupan. En su faceta de visualización testimonial y denuncia, la violencia es uno de los ejes argumentales recurrentes, y las diversas manifestaciones de la de género tienen un lugar reseñable. Los escenarios testimonian violencia de género desde siempre, como los ejemplos del tratamiento del tema del honor y la honra en el teatro barroco del siglo XVII. La repercusión social que ese tópico de la honra subido a los escenarios barrocos sigue teniendo en nuestra sociedad es de gran importancia, pues durante siglos no solo ha reflejado la concepción de sumisión absoluta de la mujer a la figura patriarcal y la prevalencia del hombre sobre ella, sino que también ha ayudado a arraigarla. Frente a esa visión, otros textos han servido para comenzar a concienciar del problema. Desde mitad del siglo XX hasta hoy, una interesante relación de títulos sirve como muestra de la atención prestada por nuestros dramaturgos al maltrato de género y todo lo que le rodea: legislación, informes periciales médico forenses, atención de profesionales de la asistencia socio-sanitaria y psicológica, actuaciones pedagógicas con menores, etc.
    Current Spanish Theater clearly shows its ethical commitment to the society in which it is born, and it does so by critically reflecting contemporary society in a way that helps to set new paradigms regarding the controversial issues, and that we are most concerned about. In this line of testimonial viewing and complaint, violence is one of the recurring arguments, and the various manifestations of gender-based violence have a remarkable place. The stages bear witness to gender violence since always, as examples of the treatment of the theme of honor in the baroque theater of the seventeenth century. The social impact that this topic of honor risen to the baroque stages still have in our society is of great importance, because for centuries has not only reflected the conception of absolute submission of women to the patriarchal figure and the prevalence of the man over her, but has also helped it to take root. Faced with this vision, other texts have served to begin to raise awareness of the problem. From the mid-twentieth century until today, an interesting list of titles serves as a sample of the attention given by our playwrights to gender abuse and everything that surrounds them: legislation, forensic medical forensic reports, care of socio-health care professionals And psychological, pedagogical actions with minors, etc.

    Digital or hashtag activism in social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook has gained popularity around the globe. Campaigns such as #MeToo and #YesAllWomen have drawn much needed attention to the problems of gender based violence and misogyny. This article is dedicated to a similar, but unique, campaign – #ЯнеБоюсьСказать (#IamNotScaredToSpeak) – that took place in Facebook’s Russian speaking community in July 2016. (It followed an identical campaign started in Ukraine, which subsequently crossed over into other former Soviet republics such as Kazakhstan.) The objective of this article is twofold. First, utilizing Discourse Analysis, I analyze posts associated with #IamNotScaredToSpeak, and argue that the campaign raised the visibility of the problem of sexual violence largely as a result of women’s active participation in it. A number of women who decided to reveal their personal experiences and others who stood with them against rape culture, helped increase the significance of women’s linguistic agency and made #IamNotScaredToSpeak the first large-scale feminist movement in Russia to date. Second, I will examine the specificity of the #IamNotScaredToSpeak campaign and argue that it was predominantly of a grass-roots nature with the self-organization and participation of ordinary people being crucial to the movement. By way of comparison, the #MeToo campaign, operating in the western context, was largely initiated and led by celebrities.

Kampanie takie jak #MeToo i #YesAllWomen zwróciły uwagę na problem przemocy ze względu na płeć i mizoginię. Artykuł ten jest poświęcony podobnej, ale wyjątkowej kampanii – #ЯнеБоюсьСказать (#NieBojęSięPowiedzieć) – która odbyła się w rosyjskojęzycznej społeczności Facebooka w lipcu 2016 roku. (Po tym wydarzeniu identyczną kampanię rozpoczęto na Ukrainie, a następnie w innych byłych radzieckich republikach, między innymi w Kazachstanie.) Cel tego artykułu jest dwojaki. Po pierwsze, przeprowadzając analizę dyskursu, autorka przygląda się postom związanym z #NieBojęSięPowiedzieć i stawia tezę, że kampania, w wyniku aktywnego udziału kobiet, zwiększyła widoczność problemu przemocy seksualnej. Uczestniczki kampanii, które zdecydowały się ujawnić osobiste doświadczenia swoje i innych, pomogły zwiększyć znaczenie kobiecego sprawstwa językowego i uczyniły #NieBojęSięPowiedzieć pierwszym jak dotąd dużym ruchem feministycznym w Rosji. Po drugie, autorka bada specyfikę kampanii #NieBojęSięPowiedzieć i stwierdza, że miała ona przede wszystkim charakter oddolny, a samoorganizacja i udział zwykłych ludzi były kluczowe dla powstania ruchu. W przeciwieństwie do #NieBojęSięPowiedzieć kampania #MeToo, działająca w kontekście zachodnim, była w dużej mierze inicjowana i prowadzona przez gwiazdy.

    Gender-based violence is understood as violence motivated by gender stereotypes and prejudices resulting from normative expectations related to femininity and masculinity dominating in society and culture, and from unequal power relations between women and men. The aim of the article is to analyze the problem of gender-based violence in the context of its social and cultural sources, as well as ways to prevent it. The authors put forward a thesis that the main preventive measure is the education of children and youth to equality of women and men, both in public life and in the family, as well as the elimination of prejudices and unjust stereotypes related to gender from education.

    Opis:
    Women’s rights are an inseparable part of the human rights, and human rights are an integrated part of women’s rights. The Swedish Government has adopted a concept of feminist foreign policy, aiming at strengthening these rights on a global level. Women’s rights are continued to be violated as much as ever, hindering democracy, peace, rule of law, sustainable development and economic growth – the overarching aims of international policy. Women’s rights to education, financial resources and access to the labour market are crucial in defending human rights and having a policy for 100 per cent of the world’s population. A priority task of the feminist foreign policy is supporting women’s inclusion in all decision-making structures, both on national and multilateral level. This in order to achieve wider foreign, development and security policy objectives through a new approach, different way of thinking and different solutions.
    Prawa kobiet są nieodłączną częścią praw człowieka, tak jak prawa człowieka są integralną częścią praw kobiet. Koncepcja feministycznej polityki zagranicznej, przyjętej przez szwedzki rząd ma na celu wzmocnienie tych praw na poziomie globalnym. Ciągłe łamanie praw kobiet narusza demokrację, porządek prawny, utrudnia zrównoważony rozwój i wzrost gospodarczy – podstawowe cele polityki międzynarodowej. Prawo kobiet do edukacji, środków finansowych i dostępu do rynku pracy jest kluczowe w zakresie ochrony praw człowieka oraz prowadzenia polityki dotyczącej 100 % światowej populacji. Kluczowym zadaniem feministycznej polityki zagranicznej jest wspieranie integracji kobiet we wszystkich strukturach decyzyjnych, zarówno na poziomie krajowym, jak i wielostronnym w celu przyjęcia szerszych założeń polityki zagranicznej, rozwoju i bezpieczeństwa – przez nowe podejście, inny sposób myślenia i różne rozwiązania.

    Opis:
    This research report is an integral part of a larger research project focused on analyzing peer violence which is driven by gender stereotypes and prejudices (including sexual harassment) and which is experienced by female and male students of Polish junior high schools. The present qualitative research results are the effect of eight interviews and group discussions carried out in the first half of 2013. The interviewees and discussion participants were students of four different junior high schools in different towns and villages. The discussions focused on the following issues: girls' and boys' strategies of enduring, resisting or confronting gender-based violence and harassment; their reactions and coping mechanisms as victims and/or witnesses of gender-based violence or harassment; how adolescents perceived the roles of adults (that is teachers, parents, professionals) in the their experiences of violence.
    Raport z badań stanowi integralną część większego, aktualnie realizowanego projektu badawczego, którego problemem zasadniczym jest przemoc rówieśnicza motywowana stereotypami i uprzedzeniami związanymi z płcią (w tym przemoc o podtekście seksualnym), doświadczana przez uczniów i uczennice polskich gimnazjów. Prezentowane tu wyniki badań własnych o charakterze jakościowym są efektem przeprowadzonych w pierwszej połowie 2013 roku ośmiu wywiadów i dyskusji grupowych, w których uczestniczyli gimnazjaliści i gimnazjalistki z czterech różnych szkół i miejscowości. Problemem, na którym skoncentrowały się dyskusje były dziewczęce i chłopięce strategie przetrwania, oporu czy też przeciwstawiania się rówieśniczej przemocy ze względu na płeć; reakcje i sposoby radzenia sobie w roli ofiary i/lub świadka oraz postrzeganej przez adolescentów roli dorosłych (nauczycieli, rodziców, profesjonalistów) w sytuacji doświadczania sytuacji przemocowych.
