    The aim of this article is to present the processes of education and upbringing in the curricula for universal schools in the Interwar Period. In the article, the example of primary schools is cited, operating in Garbów commune and the structure of the primary school network is described together with financial and material problems experienced in these schools and the methods of overcoming them. The teaching work of the teachers is presented with emphasis placed on the activity of school institutions and students organizations in the area. Attention is also paid to the significance of the achievements of the teaching and upbringing methods applied in primary schools in the Interwar Period. The article is based on information obtained from sources made available by the National Archives in Lublin and chronicles stored in schools still operating in Garbów commune.

    Opis:
    The article recounts the story of the killing of the administrator of Uniejów castle, provost of Kurzelów Pełka, by Mikołaj of Grabów, the castellan of Łęczyca, during a feast organized by the governor of Łęczyca, Piotr Kmita, in Dąbie on the river Ner. As a result of the killing, Pełka’s brother Bernard of Garbów occupies the archbishop’s castle in Uniejów and plunders it. The starost of Greater Poland, Domarat of Pierzchno, undertakes intervention which leads to an agreement that in return for leaving the castle he can keep the loot and go away free. The author provides descriptions of the heroes of those events and of the general situation in Greater Poland during the reign of Louis I of Hungary.

    Opis:
    The figure of Józef Nakonieczny is counted among very deserved social-political activists of the Kingdom. He can be a symbol of the peasantry activity in political and social areas at the turn of 19th and 20th centuries. Raised in a peasant family, Nakonieczny was a self-taught individual. He was interested in history and Polish literature as well as foreign languages: Russian and French. His intelligence and courage helped him to develop successfully contacts with the representatives of various classes. He was involved in the underground work of the national organizations, which required great sacrifice and devotion. Józef Nakonieczny popularized strictly prohibited matters on the territory stretching from Galicia to the Kingdom lands. He defended Polish victims of tsarist authorities who forced them to convert to the Russian Orthodox Church. For his activity Nakonieczny was exiled deep into Russia. Thanks to an amnesty by Tsar Nicholas II, he returned to his home village after sixteen months of wandering. During the Russian Revolution 1905-1907 he made public appeals for national rights. Józef Nakonieczny proved himself to be adamantly opposed to strikes and anarchy. As a parliamentary of the Duma, he protected polish rights and interests of polish farmers from the Kingdom. His speeches and ideas of the upswing in economic and social situation were published in the newspapers in Polish, appearing on the Kingdom lands. Nakonieczny took on bold initiatives: he established the associations of great economic significance and promoted education among the people from the class he came from. Cooperating with Roman Dmowski and the activists of the other political parties, he tried to involve as many citizens as possible in fighting for the cause of freedom of the Polish people. Not forgetting about those who were harmed by the war, Józef Nakonieczny demanded the war indemnities. He also insisted on stopping commandeering of agricultural produces and also tried to obtain funds for the reconstructions of the churches. He died tragically in a car crash on 11 April 1915 near Kurów. Crowds of thousands of peasants, gentry, intelligentsia and clergy that gathered for his funeral ceremony proved that Józef Nakonieczny was held in great esteem by virtually everyone.

    Opis:
    Into duties of parish priests not only a ministry was written down, but also organising the care for old, ill, poor and skipped parishioners. After the Trent Council which was held in latach1545-1563, they started forming parish hospitals, and on the XIX turning point and the 20th century shelters and houses of the refuge were made.             Into the history of the parish of Garbów activity of two protective institutions became part of: of the parish hospital and of the shelter called the Hostel for Old Men in Garbów.             The article is aimed portraying of the history these two institutions, from which every for many years served for the Garbów communities.             The first part of the article is regarding activity of the parish hospital. Based on observed parish and archival records and the available literature on the subject they presented here the standard of living of charges and funds of the hospital, and also to show the state of the residential building and ways of taking care of residents. Later an issue was introduced the foundation of hospital and other forms of financial supporting of hospitals. In the second part of the article based on parish records and numerous memory articles placed in the local Press they portrayed history of the coming into existence and functioning of the shelter which was assigned for the poorest group the Garbów communities. They described the case of purchasing the building and adapting it at residential target and involving landowners in the matter of creating the shelter. They presented a living conditions of residents and duties of nuns which worked at this institution, and ways of financing activity of the nursing home were shown.

    The article presents the results of research on the remains of an Early Medieval (eighth – tenth centuries) tribal fortified settlement in Garbów, Lublin voivodeship and its settlement facilities in the area within a radius of 15 km from the settlement centre. Based on the theory of “territory exploited by the settlement”, the authors make attempts to reconstruct elementary settlement communities and their economic activity within a radius of 1 and 2 km. In addition, they indicate natural conditions of the settlement and the role of the centre (a fortified settlement) in the defence system of he settlement area.
