Opis:
This paper describes ways in which political speakers define and legitimize future policies by construing different policy options in terms of ‘privileged’ and ‘oppositional’ futures. Privileged and oppositional futures are conceptual projections of alternative policy visions occurring in quasi-dialogic chunks of speech, revealing specific evidential, mood, and modality patterns. Privileged future involves the speaker’s preferred or at least acknowledged vision and is articulated through absolute modality and evidential markers which derive from factual evidence, history, and reason. Oppositional future involves an antagonistic and plainly threatening vision, expressed by probabilistic modality and usually interrogative mood. Following the principle of psychological consistency in belief, oppositional future is normally communicated first, allowing a swift and strong response from the privileged future expressed in the speaker-preferred vision.

Opis:
Cognitive development in adolescence and selected manifestations of prospective actionFuture time perspective (FTP) is one of the most habitual manifestations of prospect action. It plays an important role in establishing life plans and projects. An individual with a vast time perspective can more easily articulate far-reaching goals as well as obtain resources to achieve them. Additionally, undertaken present actions often have immediate as well as long-term effects and the ability to anticipate them is important. Both aspects are necessary for life success. The goal of this study was to validate the two following hypotheses. The first stipulates that a developed future time perspective (PPC) is related to the ability to consider future consequences (CFC). The second hypothesis states that the development of formal operatory thought favours the formation of both aforementioned characteristics. A total of 127 students from 5 fi rst-year secondary school classes participated in the survey in which each completed a FTP test and the CFC Scale. The presented CFC Scale was adapted to serve the purpose of this study. The results verify that PPC and CFC are strongly correlated (0.73). Furthermore, the level of formal thinking (measured by the Test of Formal Operations) has a signifi cant meaning for FTP (F(2, 124) = 52.73; p<0.001) as well as for the trends of behaviour assessment of future consequences (F(2, 124) = 47.61; p<0.001).

Opis:
This article concerns the question of how marginalized individuals at the doorway to the art field manage their position of uncertainty, what Bourdieu calls a “cleft habitus,” and in some cases challenge the repressive norms. Bourdieu’s perspective on how historical crisis prompts change at the macro level is used to view how “micro crises” in the lives of individuals leads to resistance against normative requirements. The article suggests that within situations of micro crises individuals assume three strategies to handle the contradictions they are faced with: 1) expand upon their cultural capital (these resources can then be used in opposition to the institution of the field within which they were accumulated in the first place); 2) move to an alternative scene and audience; or 3) create a new or emergent future horizon through which they can reinterpret their past and present situation.

The aim of the article is to present the role that strategic culture plays in creating and shaping security of the future. Taking account of the purpose of this paper, the main research problem took the form of the following question: To what extent does strategic culture have an influence on shaping security of the future? In order to achieve the aim of this paper and solve the main research problem, the following research methods will be applied: method of analysis, synthesis and method of conclusion. The empirical methods facilitate examination of processes with the aim of drawing conclusions. The article uses research method such as observation. Results Strategic culture is not a dogma or a camera through which we can look into the past or the future. It is a tool useful for understanding how and what the circumstances are in which a country defines appropriate measures and goals to achieve its goals regarding security. Strategic culture can help to understand the real cultural identity of a particular entity (such as a country or an organization) and its role in the system of international relations in a better way. Therefore, it can contribute to a better understanding of security policy implemented by the entity and what is more, the analysis of strategic culture can lead to a better understanding of the opponent's strategic behaviour on the basis on how the opponent defines victory, defeat, loss or suffering.

The main aim of the article is presentation and operationalization of the concept of the places of the future in the context of seed banks. The future is understood here as a category of collective imagination, which means that the predicted future is an essential element of the present. The anticipated futures act reciprocally upon the social practices, both at the individual and the institution levels. Although, due to social, natural, civilizational and other reasons, the future is not fully predictable, it is semi-open, not-completely closed, it is recognized in the form of systemic thinking, which can be defined as closed. The analysis of the case of seed banks allowed revealing the inevitable gap between the future and systematic anticipation practices. The seed banks established in the face of the anticipated threat of global hunger are a tool for negotiating a possibly beneficial to people scenario for the future, conducted with non-human actors, whose actions are of probabilistic nature.

What is the role of storage for dealing with the intermittent nature of renewable energy resources? Why do we need to build, operate, integrate and manage energy efficiency, storage and renewable energy in harmony with nature by smart grids in sustainable cities of the future? Is transition to 100% Renewable Energy the solution? If so what else is required to reach this target? What are we going to do with the existing system? Which methodologies and techniques we need to use to realize this transition with minimum costs and externalities? How are we going to justify this transition? Is it only a technology problem? What parameters we need to consider when we are trying to live in harmony with nature? How are we going to readapt human beings to be satisfied with minimum ecological footprint societies? Can human beings build democratic societies where energy efficiency and 100% renewable energy is respected and beneficial for each individual of the communities? Transition to 100% renewables requires planning the future with the information of the future. For reaching this target we need to carry on a multidisciplinary approach to understand and take into consideration the basic constraints and requirements of the living space we are sharing all together in the atmosphere. How to Speed-up the Global Transition to 100% Renewable Energy?

ZimbarFuture orientation (FO) expresses interpersonal differences affecting the creation of attitudes and behaviour in many life areas. FO is a prerequisite of sustainability, which requires considering environmental consequences for future generations. This study compared two primary measures of FO; Zimbardo’s Future Time Perspective (F-ZTP) and the Consideration of Future Consequences Scale (CFC), in the environmental context. While higher values of CFC predicted significantly higher levels of environmental variables, higher values of F-ZTP did not predict higher levels, and in some cases even predicted significantly lower levels of environmental variables. We suggest that FO is multidimensional, that different constructs capture different dimensions of FO and when temporal conflict involve social conflicts, as in most environmental conflicts, an inconsistency between the predictabilities of the constructs may emerge, revealing a conflict between the “futures” people are orienting at.

The appropriate level of professional knowledge about autism is the fundamental factor of the adequate diagnosis, treatment, and professional service of children with autism and their families. Although research on the knowledge about autism was conducted in various professional groups and in many countries, not much of it is related to future psychologists and none to students of pharmacy. The aim of this study was to fill this gap. A total of 80 students participated in the survey (40 students of psychology and 40 of pharmacy) and filled in the Questionnaire on the knowledge of autism by Janikowska and Rychlewska. Two assumed hypothesis (1. the higher knowledge of symptom identification and therapy forms among psychology students than in pharmacy students; and 2. the lower knowledge of etiological factors and comorbid disorders among psychology students than in pharmacy students) were partially confirmed.

Opis:
Astroecology concerns the relations between life and space resources, and cosmo-ecology extrapolates these relations to cosmological scales. Experimental astroecology can quantify the amounts of life that can be derived from space resources. For this purpose, soluble carbon and electrolyte nutrients were measured in asteroid/meteorite materials. Microorganisms and plant cultures were observed to grow on these materials, whose fertilities are similar to productive agricultural soils. Based on measured nutrient contents, the 1022 kg carbonaceous asteroids can yield 1018 kg biomass with N and P as limiting nutrients (compared with the estimated 1015 kg biomass on Earth). These data quantify the amounts of life that can be derived from asteroids in terms of time-integrated biomass [BIOTAint = biomass (kg) × lifetime (years)], as 1027 kg-years during the next billion years of the Solar System (a thousand times the 1024 kg-years to date). The 1026 kg cometary materials can yield biota 10 000 times still larger. In the galaxy, potential future life can be estimated based on stellar luminosities. For example, the Sun will develop into a white dwarf star whose 1015 W luminosity can sustain a BIOTAint of 1034 kg-years over 1020 years. The 1012 main sequence and white and red dwarf stars can sustain 1046 kg-years of BIOTAint in the galaxy and 1057 kg-years in the universe. Life has great potentials in space, but the probability of present extraterrestrial life may be incomputable because of biological and ecological complexities. However, we can establish and expand life in space with present technology, by seeding new young solar systems. Microbial representatives of our life-form can be launched by solar sails to new planetary systems, including extremophiles suited to diverse new environments, autotrophs and heterotrophs to continually form and recycle biomolecules, and simple multicellulars to jump-start higher evolution. These programs can be motivated by life-centered biotic ethics that seek to secure and propagate life. In space, life can develop immense populations and diverse new branches. Some may develop into intelligent species that can expand life further in the galaxy, giving our human endeavors a cosmic purpose.

The aim of this paper is to present the possibilities and prospects for the development of modern criminalistics. Discussion of this matter is of importance due to the observa-tion that criminalistics has, of late, lost its original form. The new techniques, including forensic analysis and biometrics, for example, are applied in traditional criminalistics. Fields of knowledge such as forensic archeology and forensic entomology play a signifi-cant role in solving common crimes and are also gradually forming part of criminalistics. There are still no effective tools, however, to combat economic crime. This paper presents the research capabilities that academic research institutes have in this field and possible ways to equip the authority conducting the proceedings with algorithms for identify-ing and combating economic crime. The paper is divided into three parts. The first part demonstrates the shortcomings of criminalistics in terms of the fight against economic crime. The second part presents the author’s achievements, such as establishing the types of economic opinions and presenting typical traces of economic crime. The third part presents the possibilities for further development of criminalistics.
