Opis:
Johann Gustav Droysen and Kazimierz Jarochowski opinions about elector Friedrich Wilhelm and Krystian Louis Kalkstein were the product of the first years of united Germany around Prussia. Jarochowski was opposed the action taken in Berlin of the politicization of history and the idealization of Hohenzollern and the state ruled by them. One of its main antagonists became Droysen, a professor at the University of Berlin, patriot, Prussia’s Hohenzollerns consistent apologist, justifying the position of the Prussian nationalist rights and the state’s hegemony policy. He created the Great Elector as the precursor of all that has come to Prussia in the nineteenth century, and saw in Friedrich Wilhelm eminent statesman guided by the interest of the entire Reich. Droysen to attain this objective, not backed up before biased dissembled and even – as shown by Jarochowski – counterfeiting past. Jarochowski, suppress falsehoods Droysen about Kalkstein and Friedrich Wilhelm’s foreign policy was also not free from political involvement. Indeed focused on selected threads of activity of the Great Elector, doing so in order to demonstrate the unfortunate beginnings Prussia and the Hohenzollern. Used by the Poznan historian Droysen’s thesis to rebut arguments about the appointment of a nationwide state of Prussia (deutscher Beryf Preußens) seem to be convincing. Great Elector guided solely by their own good dynasty and the Prussian-Brandenburg raison d’etat. So he was not – as claimed by Droysen - German patriot and defender of the interests of the nationwide.

Opis:
Kant characterizes wisdom as knowledge of the will of the highest good and appropriateness of the will to this good. He understands the highest good as a union of morality and happiness. Since these are not to be conceived upon the same lawfulness (Gesetzlichkeit), Kant thinks of the mediation of the postulates of immortality and of the existence of God. To determine, in a sufficient form, the idea of the highest good practically, i.e., as the maxim of our rational behavior, is for Kant the wisdom doctrine; in scientific reflection it is philosophy. Schelling agrees with that; for him, too, philosophy is the will of wisdom. Wisdom looks at the ultimate goal, the one which should actually come about. To know this and to make it the determining reason of the will is wisdom for Schelling.

The aim of this article is to show the course of medical studies of Stanisław Przybyszewski at the Royal University of Friedrich Wilhelm in Berlin with respect to the possibilities of him acquiring knowledge about mental illnesses that could have been used by this Polish-German writer in his subsequent novels to create protagonists immersed in madness. The author of the article analyses the materials of Berlin University from the time when Przybyszewski was its student (1889–1893). The analysed documents are the list of lecturers, and the lists of subjects included in the programme of studies. Additional material presented in the article include psychiatric books from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Analysing these books allows us to broaden the knowledge about the issues most likely discussed during the lectures, and about what the author of Dzieci Szatana could have possibly learnt about the then-known mental diseases. Analysis of the official forms from the University of Friedrich Wilhelm indicates that the would-be psychiatrist had an opportunity to take part in classes dealing with neurology and mental illnesses. My research shows that Berlin University may have provided Przybyszewski knowledge about melancholy (depression), neurasthenia and hysteria, and about the medical use of such drugs as morphine and opium. This article presents knowledge which will allow us to put under even closer analysis pieces of work of the author of Confiteor from the perspective of psychological aberration of characters.

The article presents the history of Alma Mater Jenensis from its inception in 1548 untill the early 20th century. The University of Jena, also known as Salana (after the river Saale, on which Jena lies), is one of the oldest German universities. Since the 16th century, it has been a centre of Lutheran thought. In the end 17th and 18th centuries prominent professors such as mathematician Erhard Weigel, historian Johann Andreas Bose, physician Werner Rolfinck, historian Friedrich Schiller, philosophers Johann Gottlieb Fichte, Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel conducted research or taught here. Since the 19th century, the University has cooperated with the Zeiss company manufacturing optical equipment. The author also discussed the collections of the Collegium Jenense and generally of the University.

This article is an attempt to determine the function of discovered a small collection of 19 pieces of music, owned by Friedrich Wilhelm Jüncke (1842-1897) stored in the Library of the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk. In view of the little knowledge about the life of this merchant from Gdańsk, and then from Sopot, the discovery that, apart from numismatic items and so-called Gdansk door, he also collected musical items was a big surprise for the employees of the current Art Inkubator, an institution that, since 2019, has been taking care of e.g. Jüncke's villa and cherishes the memory of the former owner of the building. The musical and bibliological characteristics of the music prints showed that Jüncke collected them rather for collecting purposes than for utilitarian purposes. Provenance entries, which were found in two prints proving that Jüncke was not the first owner. In addition, the entries found in the next five prints may prove that after Jüncke's death some items were in the possession of the Gdańsk NSDAP, and after the war they ended up in the Academy of Music Library. Undoubtedly, finding this small book collection contributes to supplementing the information about Jüncke, and - indirectly - to expanding knowledge about the musical culture of Gdańsk in the period 1939-1945.

Opis:
The second half of the nineteenth century was a time of great changes of organ music, par-ticularly the work associated with the development of a concert performance in a great form of fantasy, or sonatas. However, one should not forget that as well as a small form of choral prelude, composed for liturgical usage, underwent transformation and sublimation under the influence of the great symphonic orchestra of that period, as well as aesthetic changes resulting from the new organ sounds and constructions. The two sets of preludes are chosen from several underlying causes. One by Markull is a collection of little known composer, but it gives a full overview of ob-jectively different types of preludes for organ characteristically in the second half of the nineteenth century on the one hand, on the other hand, however it gives an insight into the subjective percep-tion of these forms by composer, showing his most personal style. In this collection, we also have a number of descriptions of registrations, which on one hand is closely associated with a particular instruments in the St. Mary’s church in Gdańsk and on the other hand are mostly emblematic for the style of organ music in Central Europe at that time. The set of Brahms is one of the most famous collections of choral preludes in organ literature, some of the songs have became even symbols of German organ romantic music style, though by no means their form seems to have no counterpart in the work of other composers of his time. You can treat the organ preludes of Brahms as the end of a stage of the development of this form and impetus for subsequent changes. This collection is quite hermetic, enigmatic, ”strangely intimate” buckle, which somehow in the extract, a condensed synthesis closes the great symphonic heritage of one of the most important German composers. Both collections and composers different from each other so much: Markull — the forgotten composer, but organ virtuoso of his time, Brahms – one of the renowned German composer, but the — only theoretical — organist, preludes by Markull – written for liturgical use, it can be called usable, very organ: preludes by Brahms — written primarily on their own needs, as an descrip-tion of some ideas, which sometimes makes it difficult to interpret on the organ. But there are also some elements in common: the two sets were created in the last period of activity of composers, both of them are deeply connected with the big German organ tradition, in musical terms having also sometimes surprisingly much in common, what the author wants to demonstrate in its analysis.
