Opis:
The purpose of this article is to examine the issue of interculturality in contemporary Francophone literatures in the language classroom. As a tool of a humanist and intercultural education, the purpose of which is based on the awareness of cultural diversity and dialogue with the alterity, the literary text thus becomes a mediator in the development of intercultural competence. To illustrate this hypothesis, three texts will serve as a reference for this purpose: Dans le ventre du Congo (2021) by Blaise Ndala which tells the story of the conflictual relationship between Belgium and the colonized Congo; Les Impatientes (2020) by Djaili Amadou Amal which evokes the problem of violence against Cameroonian women, while La dynastie des boiteux. Zoonomia (2018) by Bessora deals with the figure of a Reunionese naturalist explorer of colonized Africa.

This article is an attempt to describe the reciprocal influence of Matéi Visniec’s life and work. Based on Dominique Maingueneau’s theory of literary context and the paratopia related to it, we try to go beyond the socio-political context of Romania at the relevant time, which undoubtedly influenced the then-young writer’s perception of the world. We are, however, more interested in Visniec’s specific attitude, reflected in his work, of facing the regime and censorship that forbade the publication and exhibition of his plays and the resulting paratopia. In line with Maingueneau’s notion of bio/graphie, we try to show that Visniec’s work both reflects his life experiences and shapes his life.

Opis:
This article outlines briefly Acadian literary history in New Brunswick from 1970 to the present and concentrates on four writers: A. Maillet (La Sagouiné), R.G. LeBlanc ("Je suis Acadien"), G. Leblanc (Moncton Mantra) and F. Daigle (Petites difficultés d'existence). Their work is marked by the portrayal of sociolinguistic conflict between minority French and dominant English in Canada. We attempt to determine the consequences of this conflict on the translation of the works into English. Each literary presentation is followed by a short analysis of the respective translated passage taken from La Sagouine (L. de Céspedes), "I am Acadian" (F. Cogswell/J.-A. Elder), Moncton Mantra (J.-A. Elder) and Life's Little Difficulties (R. Majzels).

Fiction that had Punic Carthage as subject was, until the beginning of the 19th century, exclusively based on the historic sources written by Greeks and Romans. Nevertheless, the first – rivals of Carthage, and second – their enemies, have necessarily proposed to their posterity a biased story, full of subjectivity, rivalry or even hate. The development of archeology as a field of research as well as an auxiliary science of history has allowed to confront the ancients texts with the material coming from the Punic civilization, and consequently questioned centuries old ingrained stereotypes about Carthage. The decolonization of two countries that were directly influenced by Punic Carthage – Tunisia and Lebanon – has then emerged new stakes: the ideology used historic information to support the national identity of these freshly born countries. In Salammbô the autor of the Dictionnaire des idées reçues paradoxically mentions the historic stereotype that nourished the existence of Moloch god. In Elegie à Carthage, Senghor use the Didon myth to support the Panafricanist ideology. Finally, the Tunisian Fawzi Mellah and the Libanese J-J Tabet both dispute Elyssa identity.

Ananda Devi, an accomplished modern writer from Mauritius, creates texts that are difficult to classify according to their style and genre. The author is reluctant to accept the treatment of her writings as feminist, particularly Western European feminist, they are surely closer to postcolonial feminism and eco-feminism. Nevertheless, the status of women, their rights and tolerance for otherness are the key elements of Devi’s artistic expression. Her characters rebel against the patriarchal society, they endeavour to discover their own place and identity, which frequently means regaining control over their bodies in the first stage of the transformation. Devi’s female characters live close to nature, where they find comfort, some of them go through a regress to the world of animals and plants.

Opis:
The paper presents the phenomenon of hybridity present in Assia Djebar’s writings based on the example of the collection of short stories entitled Femmes d’Alger dans leur appartement (Women of Algiers in Their Apartment). The title of the collection makes reference to famous paintings by Delacroix and Picasso but in doing so the author also supplements the Europocentric discourse with her own voice, the voice of a Francophone Algerian writer who, holding a dialogue with the painters, breaks with exoticism and the orientalising European approach. The dialogue with painting is accomplished on two levels; the first, diegetic and second, essayistic; in ‘The Overture’, and especially in ‘The Afterword’, which is not only a commentary to the painting works by Delacroix and Picasso, but also a complementation of the literary plot. The permanent link of Djebar’s writings to the dramatic present and the remembrance of the women deprived of their voice and subjected to reification is voiced powerfully in the work, which cannot be easily evaluated as it is very diverse in its references to other fields of art.

In this paper, the author analyzes the stereotypical representations of single woman from two French-language Algerian novels: Les Pierres dans ma poche by Kaouther Adimi and La fille de la Casbah by Leïla Marouane. By using different literary techniques, the chosen writers formulate a severe criticism of contemporary Algerian society which, despite the hard-won liberties of the second sex, maintains the status quo by enclosing women in stereotypical social roles and by stigmatizing those who do not do not conform to societal standards.

Opis:
The article concerns the place of corporeality in the poetry of a Maurician francophone poet Umar Timol. One can distinguish four main attitudes towards the human body in Timol’s texts: body as an object of worship or – on the contrary – of disdain and condemnation, body as a humanitarian challenge and as an object of self-reflection. The absence of typically Western dualism of physical versus spiritual in Mauritian poet’s philosophy procures a new and exotic perspective for European readers. The author ponders the purpose and motifs which could stay behind such standpoints mainly by analysing the poems in the context of Mauritian culture and comparing them to other Muslim or Indian texts.

Amazigh identity and French language. On auto-translation of the novel Le pain des corbeaux by Lhoussain Azergui The main problem discussed in the article is the meaning of the decision taken by Lhoussain Azergui who, after having engaged in the process of revitalization, finally opted by translating into French his novel originally written in Amazigh. The phenomenon of the emergent Amazigh literature can be understood in the perspective of trans-colonial renegotiation of Maghrebian identities. With Azergui, it enters a new field of experimentation, when the linguistic fidelity is broken to let the writer confront himself with a major literary language. It is a „betrayal with a promise of return” that can lead to a new stage in the development of Amazigh culture. Azergui’s novel justifies internally the option of translation. Its main subject is the necessity of crossing the borders of traditional mentality. The hero, a journalist leaving the prison, finds no place in his own community due to the ancestral believes considering writing as a magical gesture. The traditional culture finds the hero guilty of supreme transgression, which is punishable by death. The intellectual rejected by his own community has no other option than to seek alliances in the outside world, hoping to efface the frontiers between the local and the global.

Opis:
Being an author whose main struggle has been to track down relentlessly ready-for-use thought structures, the use of literary topoï is far from being self-evident for Boualem Sansal. That’s why the appearance of a topos in his novels is always the sign of a thoughtful aesthetic and ethic choice. Thus, great literary topoï of 17th and 18th centuries novels embodies, in his mind, the golden age of a fully potent fiction. Dealing with a harsh reality and expected to complete french readership expectations of documentary sources, Boualem Sansal’s work constantly intends to reassert the role of a fiction that has been too much tamed, for him, in modern literary aesthetics. That’s the way we can understand his occasional but meaningful use of topoï.

This study shows that it is simplistic to argue that the narrative dynamics in contemporary Francophone African novel is monotonous. It then consists in demonstrating that it is rather indicative of a striking realism that it sometimes offers to see horrific scenes of life exhibited such that the reader immediately succumb to the temptation to share the worldview of author in review through the characters involved. Based on the operationalization of the explicit-implicit duality as structured in Pierre Barberis’s sociocriticism framework, the study postulates, in two parts, that hypotyposis is a fertile and multiple variable figure which is spread at the same time like the modalisation of an event, a relevant semiological sign, a figure of the transcendence convened by the novelist in order to collect the attention of the reader by touching his psyche and causing in him a certain number of emotions such as the feeling of horror.

The aim of this paper is to explore the specific and symbolic role of the sea in the whole work of Jean Muno (1924-1988), not only in his fantastic narratives. By including in this study some unknown but significant texts of this French-speaking Belgian writer, we will examine the reasons for the recurrence of the maritime landscape. We will highlight the strong links between the fictional creations of the author and his experience on different coasts - especially of the North Sea littoral - during his stays in holiday resorts (illustrated in the photos).
