W Instytucie Niskich Temperatur i Badań Strukturalnych PAN we Wrocławiu znajduje się państwowy wzorzec jednostki miary temperatury dla zakresu od 13,8033 K do 273,16 K. Posiadanie wzorca państwowego obliguje do przekazywania wartości jednostki temperatury wzorcom niższych rzędów oraz termometrom użytkowym, w celu zapewnienia spójności pomiarowej. Laboratorium podjęło się wykonywania usług wzorcowania czujników temperatury w zakresie niskich temperatur. W 2005 r. uzyskano środki finansowe z funduszy strukturalnych SPO-WKP, za które rozbudowano i zmodernizowano istniejące stanowiska pomiarowe stosowane do wykonywania prac usługowych, w wyniku czego możliwe jest wzorcowanie termometrów także w wyższym zakresie temperatur aż do 160 oC. Zmodernizowane, jak i nowo powstałe stanowiska pomiarowe będą objęte systemem zarządzania jakością zgodnie z wymaganiami Polskiego Centrum Akredytacji.
At the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research (INTiBS) in Wroclaw (Poland) the national temperature standard for the low temperature range between the triple point of hydrogen 13,8033 K and the triple point of water 273,16 K was established in 2001. At the Laboratory a quality system has been implemented according to ISO/IEC 17025/2005. To achieve traceability between the national standard and secondary thermometers the Laboratory has carried out calibration of low-temperature thermometers. Recently the Laboratory improved its service for higher temperature up to about of 160 oC. Measuring systems and calibration capabilities of the Laboratory is presented in the paper.

We prove some results concerning the WORTH pro\-perty and the Garc\'{i}a-Falset coefficient of absolute sums of infinitely many Banach spaces. Also, the Opial property/uniform Opial property of infinite \(\ell^p\)-sums is studied, and some properties analogous to the Opial property/uniform Opial property are discussed for Lebesgue\polishendash Bochner spaces \(L^p(\mu,X)\).

Opis:
This paper is concerned with weak uniform normal structure and iterative fixed points of nonexpansive mappings. Precisely, in Section 1, we show that the geometrical coefficient β(X) for a Banach space X recently introduced by Jimenez-Melado [8] is exactly the weakly convergent sequence coefficient WCS(X) introduced by Bynum [1] in 1980. We then show in Section 2 that all kinds of James' quasi-reflexive spaces have weak uniform normal structure. Finally, in Section 3, we show that in a space X with weak uniform normal structure, every nonexpansive self-mapping defined on a weakly sequentially compact convex subset of X admits an iterative fixed point.

We shall characterize the weak nearly uniform smoothness of the \(\psi\)-direct sum \(X \oplus_\psi Y\) of Banach spaces \(X\) and \(Y\). The Schur and WORTH properties will be also characterized. As a consequence we shall see in the \(\ell_\infty\)-sums of Banach spaces there are many examples of Banach spaces with the fixed point property which are not uniformly non-square.

We shall characterize the weak nearly uniform smoothness of the \(\psi\)-direct sum \((X_1\oplus \dots\oplus X_N)_\psi\) of \(N\) Banach spaces \(X_1,\dots,X_N\), where \(\psi\) is a convex function satisfying certain conditions on the convex set \(\Delta_N = \{(s_1 ,\dots , s_{N-1})\in \mathbb{R}_+^{N-1} : \sum_{i=1}^{N-1} s_i \leq 1\). To do this a class of convex functions which yield \(\ell_1\)-like norms will be introduced. We shall apply our result to the fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings (FPP). In particular an example will be presented which indicates that there are plenty of Banach spaces with FPP failing to be uniformly non-square.

Opis:
Shaft is a machine element which is used to transmit rotary motion or torque. During transmission of motion, however, the machine shaft doesn’t always rotate with a constant angular velocity. Because of unstable current or due to sudden acceleration and deceleration, the machine shaft will rotate at a variable angular velocity. It is this rotary motion that generates the moment of inertial force, causing the machine shaft to have torsional deformation. However, due to the elasticity of the material, the shaft produces torsional vibration. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to determine the optimal parameters of dynamic vibration absorber to eliminate torsional vibration of the rotating shaft that varies with time. The new results in this paper are summarized as follows: Firstly, the author determines the optimal parameters by using the minimum quadratic torque method. Secondly, the maximization of equivalent viscous resistance method is used for determining the optimal parameters. Thirdly, the author gives the optimal parameters of dynamic vibration absorber based on the fixed-point method. In this paper, the optimum parameters are found in an explicit analytical solutions, helping the scientists to easily find the optimal parameters for eliminating torsional vibration of the rotating shaft.

In this paper we prove that for each \(1< p, \tilde{p} < \infty\), the Banach space \((l^{\tilde{p}}, \left\|\cdot\right\|_{\tilde{p}})\) can be equivalently renormed in such a way that  the Banach space \((l^{\tilde{p}},\left\|\cdot\right\|_{L,\alpha,\beta,p,\tilde{p}})\) is LUR and has a diametrically complete set with empty interior. This result extends the Maluta theorem about existence of such a set in \(l^2\) with the Day norm. We also show that the Banach space \((l^{\tilde{p}},\left\|\cdot\right\|_{L,\alpha,\beta,p,\tilde{p}})\) has the weak fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings.

Opis:
Let f be a map of a tree-like continuum M that sends each arc-component of M into itself. We prove that f has a fixed point. Hence every tree-like continuum has the fixed-point property for deformations (maps that are homotopic to the identity). This result answers a question of Bellamy. Our proof resembles an old argument of Brouwer involving uncountably many tangent curves. The curves used by Brouwer were originally defined by Peano. In place of these curves, we use rays that were originally defined by Borsuk.
