Opis:
This article focuses on the study of the influence of remelting and subsequent natural and artificial ageing on the structure of recycled AlSi9Cu3 alloy with increased iron content. The assessed changes in eutectic silicon and iron-based intermetallic phases were carried out using optical and scanning electron microscopy. The degradation of the eutectic silicon morphology due to remelting occurred only at the highest numbers of remelting. The effect of remelting the investigated alloy, which is accompanied by a gradual increase in wt. % Fe, began to manifest significantly through a change in the length of the ferric phases after the fourth remelting. As expected, the artificial ageing process has proven to be more effective than natural ageing. It has led to a change in the eutectic silicon morphology and has been beneficial in reducing the lengths of adverse ferric phases. The use of alloys with higher numbers of remelting, or with greater “contamination”, for the manufacture of shape-challenging castings is possible when using a suitable method of eliminating the negative factors of the remelting process. The results of our investigation show a suitable method of the above elimination the application of heat treatment T5 – via artificial ageing.

Opis:
In this study, the surface roughness of galvannealed low carbon Al-killed and Ti-Nb stabilized interstitial free steels was investigated using the industrial galvannealing process parameters. The iron content of the coatings was also analysed to establish a relationship with the surface roughness and coating composition. The surface roughness displayed an exponential behaviour with increasing of annealing time at each annealing temperature in both steel coatings, which was in an increasing order in the galvannealed low carbon Al-killed steel coating, whereas it was a reverse order in the galvannealed Ti-Nb stabilized interstitial free steel coating. The craters were observed on the galvannealed coatings resulting in high surface roughness. Increasing the iron content of the coatings leads to a reduction in the surface roughness with δ1k phase.

Radioactive veins in shear zones of the El-Seboah granite in Egypt with anomalous concentrations of Nd, Ce, Zr, Y, Nb, Sm, Th and U were studied by petrographic microscopy, x-ray diffraction, 57Fe Mössbauer and wet chemical methods. The veins are composed essentially of quartz, aegirine-augite and minor K-feldspar ± α-iron oxide (hematite) ± γ-iron oxide hydroxide (goethite). They likely represent late-stage felsic melt that was quenched and devitrified at high temperature to yield crystals and crystallites, and then subjected to low temperature alteration during which most of the K feldspar transformed to kaolinite and opal. Mössbauer parameters of the samples indicate that the existing Fe-bearing minerals are primary, with appreciable ordering in the Fe sites. The bulk-sample iron (ΣFe) contents are extremely high (12.3-22.4%). The extent of oxidation of the Fe has been found to be 100% by Mössbauer spectroscopy and 95.36-99.69% by a chemical method. These conditions of Fe enrichment and strong oxidation suggest that the veins are extreme differentiates of granite magmas where high states of oxygen fugacity prevailed.

Opis:
Heat treatment of aluminum casts is necessary for achieving the desired properties of casts. Heat treatment caused changes in microstructure and substructure of materials and therefore it is necessary to control which changes are sufficient and which are insufficient. Morphology (shape, size and distribution) of microstructural features influence the properties of cast rapidly. Contribution describes influence of the heat treatment marking T4 - solution treatment in dependence on temperature (505, 515 a 525 °C) and holding time (2, 4, 8, 16 a 32 hour) on structure (α–phase, eutectic silicon, intermetallic phases) and mechanical properties (ultimate tensile strength - UTS and Brinell hardness - HBW) of A226 cast alloy. This cast alloy is made out of secondary aluminum. Secondary aluminum alloys are made of aluminum scrap. About 70 % of such material are used in the manufacture of casts. Therefore the strictly microstructure control of experimental material before and after heat treatment is necessary for declaration of cast properties. Nowadays manufacturers use the methods of quantitative analysis for quick control of microstructural features. This work present some of them.

Opis:
An experimental investigation was conducted to observe and analyze the microstructural evolution of phases present in the AK64 Al-Si-Cu alloy subjected to a modified T6 heat treatment (HT). The AK64 alloy1 is the Polish alternative of the A319.0 ASM standard aluminium alloy. The modified T6 HT schedule with a higher temperature and shorter duration was applied in the solutioning process and lower quenching and higher artificial ageing temperature than the prescribed by the ASM standard were used. The cooling curves registered during the liberating of overheating and solidifying processes give important information on nucleation temperatures for the Al dendrite network, Al-Si eutectic reaction and precipitation of Cu-rich phases. Comparison of the as-cast and heat treated microstructures revealed predicted microstructural changes and also partial fragmentation of the Fe-rich phases was observed after the application of the modified HT programme.
Artykuł poświęcony jest obróbce cieplnej stopu AK64, który jest odpowiednikiem stopu ASM: A319.0. W badaniach zastosowano zmodyfikowaną obróbkę cieplną T6 o podwyższonej (w stosunku do procedury T6 HT – ASM) temperaturze wyżarzania i skróconym czasie starzenia naturalnego po przesyceniu w wodzie.

Opis:
The high-pressure torsion (HPT) of Ti-Fe alloys with different iron content has been studied at 7 GPa, 5 anvil rotations and rotation speed of 1 rpm. The alloys have been annealed before HPT in such a way that they contained different amounts of α/α' and β phases. In turn, the β phase contained different concentration of iron. The 5 anvil rotations correspond to the HPT steady-state and to the dynamic equilibrium between formation and annihilation of microstructure defects. HPT leads to the transformation of initial α/α' and β-phases into mixture of α and high-pressure ω-phase. The α → ω and β → ω phase transformations are martensitic, and certain orientation relationships exist between α and ω as well as β and ω phases. However, the composition of ω-phase is the same in all samples after HPT and does not depend on the composition of β-phase (which is different in different initial samples). Therefore, the martensitic (diffusionless) transformations are combined with a certain HPT-driven mass-transfer. We observed also that the structure and properties of phases (namely, α-Ti and ω-Ti) in the Ti – 2.2 wt. % Fe and Ti – 4 wt. % Fe alloys after HPT are equifinal and do not depend on the structure and properties of initial α'-Ti and β-Ti before HPT.

Opis:
In the paper, studies of ternary Fe-Al28Cr5 alloys directed to characterization of mechanisms of the formation of ordered intermetallic phases influencing the possibilities of their practical application are shown. Also, a role of chromium as a modifier in kinetics of the formation of ordered phases is determined. Among the research method used, Mössbauer spectroscopy for the determination of hyperfine structure parameters was adopted. These parameters, sensitive to changes in spin and charge electron densities in the nearest neighbourhood of a Mössbauer isotope nucleus, caused by specific configurations of atoms, are directly connected with the degree of ordering of a compound. Spectral analysis has been carried out using the authors' software developed based on a theoretical model relating the shape of a Mössbauer spectrum to the sample microstructure. It has been shown that Mössbauer spectroscopy enables quantitative evaluation of the degree of ordering of phases occurring in samples characterized by large graining, in the case of which it is not possible to determine the long-range order parameter by X-ray diffraction.

Opis:
Some Fe-Al particles less than 50 μm in diameter were deposited onto the steel substrate by means of the D-gun spraying. A solidification mechanism of an individual particle is described. The particle subjected to the description contained nominally 63 at.% Al. The description was preceded by the TEM / SAED analysis of both the Fe-Al coating and Ni-20Cr interlayer. The whole number of the analyzed particles was partially melted during the deposition. The solidification products like: amorphous phase sub-layer, oscillatory sub-layer which contains two types lamellae distributed alternately and typically non-equilibrium phase sub-layer were revealed. In the micro scale, solidification was considered as a process which occurred in two directions: towards the substrate and towards the non-melted particle part. Both solidification processes underwent the positive thermal gradients. The boron addition was localized within the eutectic precipitates pushed and then rejected by the solid/liquid interface of the solidifying non-equilibrium phase. The proposed model is a general one and therefore can be applied to other systems ;description.
