In the paper a new sensor structure for surface acoustic wave gas system is presented. A bilayer structure $WO_3-Pd$ thin films may be useful for hydrogen detection in low concentration in air. A bilayer sensor structure of tungsten oxide $WO_3$ with a very thin catalytic film of palladium on the top has been studied for gas-sensing application at room temperature (about 25°C) in surface acoustic wave system. The bilayer structure of $WO_3$ layers with a thickness of about 50 nm, 100 nm and 150 nm was made onto a $LiNbO_3$ Y-cut Z-propagating substrate by means of the vacuum sublimation method using a special aluminum mask. The vapor source consisted of commercially available $WO_3$ powder (Fluka 99.9%) and molybdenum heater. The thin palladium (Pd) layer (about 10 nm) was made separately on each $WO_3$ layer by means of vapor deposition in high vacuum. There have been investigated three structures: 50 nm $WO_3$ + 10 nm Pd, 100 nm $WO_3$ + 10 nm Pd and 150 nm $WO_3$ + 10 nm Pd in three canal surface acoustic wave system with reference oscillator. Numerical results obtained by analysis of the surface acoustic wave gas sensor model have been compared with experimental results.

Analysis of online available references suggests that circular characteristics observed around Aegean Sea in southern Europe may represent protobasin class of impact craters, which small central peak and surrounded peak ring appear to be formed by the Cyclades. Thinner crust, upper mantle deformation (uplift), recognition of basin in upper mantle re-filled with rocks having lower density than surrounding mantle, central Aegean Sea area free of sediments and almost perfect circular anomaly of density with diameter over 500 km are only few arguments which may indicate its real origin. The strongest fact standing for hypothesis of impact is presence of deep, lithospheric fracture zones with both circular and radial character, detected up to the distance of ~516 km from common geometric point of all rings (providing estimated diameter of the largest circle over 1000 km). Existence of pseudotachylite veins and breccias in central Cyclades are contributory evidence. Mélange covered by Fe-Ni rich ores in Jurassic/Cretaceous boundary, if related to impact, may give clue to explanation of localized in Europe Tithonian mass extinction event 145 Ma. However, pseudotachylites and breccias can be produced by endogenic processes (e.g., plate tectonics). A further research is required to find evidence of passage of shock wave through target rocks.

A series of the disordered Fe3-xTixAl (x = 0, 0.2, 0.45, 0.55, 0.65, 0.70, 0.75, 1) alloys obtained by arc-melting were studied. Directly after melting the samples were mechanically crashed and in that form examined by the structural and Mössbauer effect methods. The alloys were strongly disordered, but it was possible to identify, apart from Fe-bcc phase, the origins of forming such phases as Fe2TiAl Heusler phase, Fe3Al with DO3 structure, FeAl and FeTi with B2 structure and non-stechiometric Fe2Ti Laves phase with hexagonal C14 structure. For Ti concentration up to x = 0.45, the disordered Fe-bcc phase dominates. For Ti concentration from x = 0.55 to x = 1, the Fe2TiAl phase coexists with FeAl phase (for x = 0.55, 0.65) and with FeTi phase (x = 0.7 and 0.75). In a sample with the nominal Fe2TiAl composition of Fe2TiAl Heusler phase, a non-stoichiometric Fe2Ti Laves phase with hexagonal C14 structure was observed.

In this paper cation arrangement in two samples of aluminoceladonite, emerald green and dark-green were studied by Mössbauer, Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra obtained in the region of the Si2p, Al2p, Fe2p, K2p, and O1s core levels provided information, for the first time highlighting a route to identify the position of Si, Al, K, and Fe cations in a structure of layered silicates. The XPS analysis showed the presence of Al in tetrahedral and octahedral coordination while the K2p line indicated the possibility of K+ substitution by other cations in interlayer sites. Mössbauer spectroscopy provided information about crystal chemistry with respect to the local electronic and geometric environment around the Fe atom and to distortions of the polyhedra. It turned out that iron was located mostly in the cis-octahedra position wherein about 75% of iron appeared in the form of Fe3+. The most preferred cation combinations around Fe corresponded to 3Fe3+ ions and MgFe2+Fe3+/2MgFe3+. Raman spectroscopy illustrated aluminium substitution in silicon and iron positions wherein the concentration of the aluminium determined the degree of structural distortion within the layered system. These isomorphic substitutions implied a typical band arrangement in the hydroxyl region, which has not been observed in celadonites so far.

The effect of selected transition metal powders (Zn, Ti, Mo and nano-Fe), in the concentration range from 0-5 wt.%, when used as activators in the highly calorific mixture Fe-KClO4 (containing 16 wt.% KClO4), has been studied. It has been established that zinc and molybdenum powders can act as factors in decreasing the activation temperature and increasing the effectiveness of the oxidant used. Titanium powder increases the oxygen conversion rate and the amount of energy released. Iron nano-powder has only a slight influence on the above mentioned parameters.

The soft magnetic properties of Fe-based amorphous alloys can be controlled by their compositions through alloy design. Experimental data on these alloys show some discrepancy, however, with predicted values. For further improvement of the soft magnetic properties, machine learning processes such as random forest regression, k-nearest neighbors regression and support vector regression can be helpful to optimize the composition. In this study, the random forest regression method was used to find the optimum compositions of Fe-Si-B-C alloys. As a result, the lowest coercivity was observed in Fe80.5Si3.63B13.54C2.33 at.% and the highest saturation magnetization was obtained Fe81.83Si3.63B12.63C1.91at.% with R2 values of 0.74 and 0.878, respectively.

In this study, the surface roughness of galvannealed low carbon Al-killed and Ti-Nb stabilized interstitial free steels was investigated using the industrial galvannealing process parameters. The iron content of the coatings was also analysed to establish a relationship with the surface roughness and coating composition. The surface roughness displayed an exponential behaviour with increasing of annealing time at each annealing temperature in both steel coatings, which was in an increasing order in the galvannealed low carbon Al-killed steel coating, whereas it was a reverse order in the galvannealed Ti-Nb stabilized interstitial free steel coating. The craters were observed on the galvannealed coatings resulting in high surface roughness. Increasing the iron content of the coatings leads to a reduction in the surface roughness with δ1k phase.

In this paper the results of studies on the effect of pressure on hyperfine magnetic field (Bf) and isomer shift (IS) for Fe-bcc are presented. Two calculation methods were used: TB-LMTO (Tight Binding Linear Muffin-Tin) and FP-LAPW (Full Potential Linearized Augmented Plane Wave) and the obtained results have been compared. Both methods lead to comparable results. In the study a particular emphasis has been laid on investigations of the atomic core electrons (1s, 2s, 3s) and of the conduction electrons 4s on the Bf and IS values. The calculated values of the dIS/dlnV and dlnB /dlnV parameters give evidence of good conformity with those derived from experimental data.

The development of a technology that increases the service life of valve seats in CNG/LNG-powered vehicles requires the appropriate selection of material and the technology of its application. Commercially used valve seat materials show accelerated wear under operating conditions, especially in natural gas vehicle engines. The authors developed a new material concept and a new technological concept for the protection of the valve seat in CNG/LNG-powered vehicles. This article aims to present the first stage of tribological research. Two materials were used in the research: Stellite 6 alloy and Fe3Al intermetal. A commonly used material for valve seats of combustion engines is Stellite 6. The Fe3Al is the new proposed material coating for the protection of the valve seats of internal combustion engines. This article compares the abrasive wear resistance of these materials. The abrasion tests were performed on a T-11 pin-on-disc tester, and the counter-sample was steel S235JR. The test conditions were similar to those prevailing during the operation of the valves in the head of the internal combustion engine, without the influence of temperature. The obtained results indicate that the Fe3Al intermetal is characterized by a lower coefficient of friction and lower wear intensity than Stellite 6. The results confirm that the Fe3Al phase is a prospective material to be used as a protective material on the valve seat of vehicles.

New finite element methods are proposed for elliptic interface problems in one and two dimensions. The main motivation is to get not only an accurate solution, but also an accurate first order derivative at the interface (from each side). The key in 1D is to use the idea of Wheeler (1974). For 2D interface problems, the point is to introduce a small tube near the interface and propose the gradient as part of unknowns, which is similar to a mixed finite element method, but only at the interface. Thus the computational cost is just slightly higher than in the standard finite element method. We present a rigorous one dimensional analysis, which shows a second order convergence order for both the solution and the gradient in 1D. For two dimensional problems, we present numerical results and observe second order convergence for the solution, and super-convergence for the gradient at the interface.

In this paper the adsorption activity of perlite nanoparticles for removal of Cu2+, Fe2+ and Mn2+ ions at Iran Sarcheshmeh copper acid mine drainage was discussed. Thus, raw perlite that provided from internal resource was modified and prepared via particles size reduction to nano scale and characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transforms infrared and BET specific surface area analysis. The results of acid mine drainage show that pH of acid mine drainage is 5.1 and Cu2+, Fe2+ and Mn2+ ions are 10.5, 4.1 and 8.3 ppm, respectively. Firstly in the batch system the influence of adsorbent dose and temperature parameters were considered and then isothermal and kinetic models were investigated. According to the results the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second order kinetic model showed better correlation with the experimental data than other isotherm and kinetic models. Obtained thermodynamic parameters such as ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS° show that the Cu2+, Fe2+ and Mn2+ ions adsorption from acid mine drainage is spontaneous and endothermic. Finally, perlite nanoparticles adsorbent was packed inside a glass column and used for the removal of heavy metals in 1, 3, 5 ml/min acid mine drainage flow rates, the breakthrough curves show that the column was saturated at 180, 240 and 315 min for different flow rates, respectively. According to the obtained results, this abundant, locally available and cheap silicate mineral showed a great efficiency for the removal of heavy metal pollutants from acid mine drainage and can be utilized for much volume of acid mine drainage or industrial scale.
W pracy omówiono zdolności adsorpcyjne nano-cząsteczek perlitu wykorzystywanych o usuwania jonów Cu2+, Fe2+ i Mn2+ z kwaśnych wód kopalniach w kopalni miedzi w Sarcheshmeh w Iranie. Surowy perlit pozyskiwany ze źródeł własnych został zmodyfikowany i odpowiednio spreparowany poprzez zre-dukowanie cząsteczek do rozmiarów rzędu nano- cząsteczek. Perlit poddany został następnie badaniom z wykorzystaniem dyfrakcji promieniowania rentgenowskiego, rentgenowskiej analizy fluorescencyjnej, skaningowej mikroskopii elektronowej, transmisyjnej mikroskopii elektronowej, spektroskopii w podczerwieni z transformatą Fouriera. Przeprowadzono także badania powierzchni właściwej w oparciu o równanie BET. Wyniki badań kwaśnych wód kopalnianych wykazują ich kwasowość na poziomie 5.1, a zawartość jonów Cu2+, Fe2+ i Mn2 wynosi odpowiednio 10.5, 4.1, 8.3 ppm. W pierwszym etapie analizowano system działania okresowego, zbadano wpływ następujących parametrów: ilości czynnika absorbującego i temperatury. Następnie przebadano modele izotermiczne i kinetyczne. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników wykazano, że izoterma Langmuira oraz model pseudo-kinetycznego drugiego rzędu wykazują lepszą zgodność z danymi eksperymentalnymi niż pozostałe modele izotermiczne i kinetyczne. Uzyskane parametry termodynamiczne: ΔG°, ΔH° i ΔS° wskazują, że adsorpcja jonów Cu2+, Fe2+ i Mn2 z kwaśnych wód kopalnianych przebiega spontanicznie i jest procesem endotermicznym. W końcowym etapie badania nanocząsteczki perlitu- adsorbentu zostały umieszczone wewnątrz szklanej kolumny i wykorzystane do usuwania jonów metali ciężkich z kwaśnych wód kopalnianych podawanych z prędkością przepływu 1, 3, 5 ml/min. Krzywe przebicia wskazują, że kolumna została nasycona odpowiednio po 180, 240 i 315 dla odpowiednich prędkości przepływu. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują, że ten występujący lokalnie w dużych ilościach, tani i łatwo dostępny minerał krzemianowy wykazuje wysoką skuteczność w usuwaniu z kwaśnych wód kopalniach zanieczyszczeń w postaci metali ciężkich, dlatego też może być z powodzeniem wykorzystany do oczyszczania znacznych ilości wód a także na skalę przemysłową.

The present study employed density functional theory (DFT) to analyze the adsorption configuration and mechanism of Fe(OH)2+ on the kaolinite (001) surface. The findings demonstrated that Fe(OH)2(H2O)4+ is the main type in which hydrated Fe(OH)2+ can be found in aqueous solution. On the surface of kaolinite, Fe(OH)2(H2O)4+ will be adsorbed. There are two forms of adsorption: outer-sphere and inner-sphere coordination (monodentate/bidentate) adsorption. Fe(OH)2(H2O)4+ has a moderate propensity to adsorb on the alumina octahedral sheet of kaolinite when the outer-sphere coordination adsorption takes place. In cases of inner-sphere coordination adsorption, Fe exhibits a tendency to form monodentate adsorption compounds in conjunction with Ou atoms. Additionally, it prefers to create bidentate adsorption compounds through coordination with both Ot and Ou atoms. The adsorption mechanism analysis results show that the ionic property of Fe atom decreases after outer-sphere coordination adsorption. After inner-sphere coordination adsorption, some electrons of Fe atom are transferred to the surface O atom. The presence of electrons between the Fe and O atoms enhances the formation of bonds, hence enhancing the covalent nature of the Fe-O bond. Theoretical FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) calculations show that the formation of Fe-O chemical bonds. Because of the lower adsorption energy and more chemical bonds, hydrate Fe(OH)2+ is more likely to be bidentate adsorbed on the kaolinite surface.

Opis:
The paper presents an FE model of coupled electromagnetic and thermal phenomena in Line Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (LSPMSMs). An algorithm for solving equations of a discrete model using the FEM has been presented. On the basis of this algorithm the author’s personally developed software for the analysis of coupled electromagnetic-thermal phenomena in the LSPMS motors was elaborated. This software was used to analyze the start-up process of motors with identical stator and rotor magnetic circuits and different materials of the starting cage. The start-up process of motors with the squirrel-cage made of aluminum and copper was considered. The influence of temperature on the start-up process has been taken into account. The results of simulation tests were compared with the results of measurements.

Opis:
In the work results of research on electrodischarge machining (EDM) of titanium alloy Ti10V2Fe3Al with (α + β) structure were presented. Preliminary heat treatment of samples allows to obtain different morphology and volume fraction of the α phase. The main goal of research was to assessment of the material microstructure impact on EDM technological factors (ie. material removal rate, tool wear) and morphology of technological surface layer. Electrodischarge machining is alternative and increasingly used method of titanium alloys machining. Research allowed to indicate the possibilities and limitations of use EDM in this area. It is especially important in the aspect of parts produced for aircraft industry and related requirements for the technological surface layer quality.

Opis:
Introduction of small amounts of dopant Fe cations intitania was mainly intended for improving the oxidativepower of the host TiO2 surface, by shifting the absorption edge of the material towards the blue side of the visible range. Apart from this, other possible applications of Fe-containing TiO2 materials have been foreseen in the field of diluted ferromagnetic semiconductors for spintronics. As a general remark, while pristine and/or low-level doped titania materials remained a hot subject in basic research, and environment- and energy related applications, reports on Ti1-x FexO2 materials (x > 0.1) scarcely occurred in literature. We have initiated recently an investigation of heavily doped titania thin films within a wider iron compositionrange. Here, we report on the result of an XPS study of the RF sputtered oxygen-deficient thin films (x =0.15 - 0.62) and discuss the connection of the results with the macroscopic properties of the materials.
