Opis:
In the 19th century, the British Parliament passed a series of acts to regulate the employment of children, adolescents and adult women in factories. The 1833 Factory Act, which aimed at improving the working conditions of children in textile factories, is considered the first effective act. Although the general belief was that the factory acts were the result of humanitarian considerations, the underlying motivations of the politicians who supported the 1833 Factory Act have been questioned since then. In a letter he wrote in 1837, Nassau W. Senior argued that operatives pushed for restricting the work hours of children to increase the price of their labor. Putting Senior’s argument in the center of their debate, a group of economists argued that they provided a public choice perspective emphasizing the role of pressure on the part of an interest group (operatives in this case) in the legislative process. Karl Polanyi, on the other hand, presented a totally different, if not completely opposite approach. He put forward the idea that the laboring people were hardly effective in this legislative activity which primarily reflected the resistance of the landlords to mill owners whose interests conflicted on the issue of food prices. This paper searches for evidence to support these arguments by rereading four factory guide books written in the twelve-year period following the 1833 Factory Act. To this end, Andrew Ure’s The Philosophy of Manufactures (1835), Peter Gaskell’s Artisans and Machinery (1836), William Cooke Taylor’s Factories and the Factory System (1844) and Friedrich Engels’ The Condition of the Working Class in England (1845) are reviewed.

Opis:
A number of efficient solutions are already in existence today for reducing specific energy and raw material needs, and they are continuously being improved. Since the competition between individual solutions for sustained energy efficiency may prove to be an obstacle to the system as a whole, the interaction of individual elements and sub-systems in complex domains must be considered in an integrated way with an eye to their reciprocal energy effects. What will be the impact of energy savings resulting from innovative approaches and intelligent solutions at a single systemic level on the system as a whole? Do they serve to reduce overall energy costs? What kinds of energy-related information are necessary to answer these questions? This article examines the issue of how dedicated energy savings in the production sector impact on the total energy requirement in factory systems. In one example, process and building are examined together in order to thereby recognize energy relationships. It was demonstrate that waste heat from machine tools has a significant impact on the factory hall climate and therefore on the heating needs of factory buildings. A model calculation demonstrated that energy savings at individual system levels are transferable to the entire system in direct proportion to the energy efficiency of the building.

W artykule omówiono historię jednej z największych i swego czasu najnowocześniejszej w Polsce cementowni. Szczakowa powstała pod koniec XIX wieku i przez ponad sto lat wytwarzała wysokiej klasy cement znany na całym świecie. Dawała ludziom pracę, utworzyła osiedle i szkoliła kolejne pokolenia rzemieślników. Niestety w skutek złego zarządzania i nadmiernej eksploatacji maszyn została zamknięta. Mimo braku produkcji teren fabryki żył „własnym życiem”, które zostało przerwane w momencie zniszczenia, a w konsekwencji rozbiórki wartościowych postindustrialnych obiektów.
The article discusses the history of one of the largest and the most modern of its time cement works in Poland. Szczakowa was founded at the end of the nineteenth century and for over a hundred years was producing high-quality cement famous throughout the world. It was giving people jobs, created housing estate and trained successive generations of craftsmen. Unfortunately, due to bad management and excessive use of machines, it has been closed. Despite the lack of production, the factory’s area was living its own life which was interrupted at the moment of destruction, and consequently the demolition of valuable post-industrial objects.

Manufacturing companies operate on data from production, operation and trade. The strategy of creating and collecting data at the centre of production processes has significantly improved in recent years. Manufacturers are now collecting and storing vast amounts of data from their manufacturing facilities, both online and offline, from multiple geographic locations and with a growing number of separate data repositories. The design of workplaces and products continues to migrate from paper to the computer, where analysis accuracy, visualization, and collaboration utilities allow designs to be realized much faster and better than ever before. As the pace of this development accelerates with the increased capabilities of the software design tools, less time is spent on physical prototyping, allowing for shortened time-to-market for new products. Ergonomists, who in the past used the physical prototypes to perform human factors analyses, are now challenged to move the analysis into the virtual domain using new tools and methods. Usability, maintainability, physical ergonomic assessments, psychological perception, and procedural training are some of the human factors issues that might benefit from analysis prior to the first physical incarnation of the design.

Purpose: The aim of the publication was to visualize the process of creating knowledge on the example of the CP Factory production line. For this purpose, the data contained in the relational databases and data of the operating production line were used. This data was converted to the form required by the CogniPy environment to create a semantic ontology for product personalization. Design/methodology/approach: With the available software based on ontologies and knowledge charts, the possibility of common human-computer reasoning has been opened, especially in production management. Findings: During the activities carried out, the on-conceptualization of the knowledge contained in the production management system was brought to an ontological form. At the moment, the information contained in the database is not very different from the data existing in the relational database. However, further modeling of ontology can be directed towards the creation of rules, logic and axioms of production processes. Practical implications: The operations and transformations performed presented the operation of CogniPy in the process of creating ontology and materializing the graph and queries. The created ontology takes the form of a universal set of knowledge that makes it open to wide integration with other systems. Originality/value: The publication shows the possibilities of using the CogniPy environment in the construction of ontology and semantic product personalization.

Opis:
The complexity in automotive manufacturing increased enormously in the last couple of years. Reasons therefore are due to a widened product portfolio, enlarged manufacturing capacities distributed over several manufacturing sites and a large number of suppliers feeding the manufacturing network around the world. The factories are under permanent change and must be planned, configured and adapted in a permanent way. Consequently, planning tasks go along with a comparable degree of complexity as the manufacturing itself and must stand the continuous change manufacturing is faced with. Therefore, a factory model representing the essential information about the products, the technological resources and their interdependencies must be built for planning purposes. In context of long-term strategic planning tasks, structural changes are in specific focus and must be considered in the model. In this paper, a model of a factory structure, which can be used for the strategic planning of a manufacturing network is proposed. The factory structure model is based on a current configuration and has the architecture to consider future change within forecasts and scenarios.

Opis:
The essay is a review of Michael Hardt’s and Antonio Negri’s Assembly and it aims at a critical evaluation of its empirical relevance and political usefulness. It focuses on two issues. The first one is general and as such relates to the global context of struggles against capital: the notion of social factory and its implications for political action. The essay argues that the concept of social factory grasped an important development within twentieth century capitalism. It is, however, becoming more and more irrelevant as living labour is being systematically replaced by automation. Unlike the social media or other similar forms of “digital capitalism” analysed in Assembly, a very large part of automation does not depend on any kind of continuous, multitudinous human input. It rather aims at uploading the general intellect into the system of autonomous machines, making them independent from the human element. The second issue this essay examines is the recent populist-conservative turn and the situation of peripheral countries that had no part in the recent progressive cycle of struggles (Arab Spring, Occupy, Indignados). The essay points to a bias in the post-Operaist project – its focus on particular geographical and socio-cultural areas – that ignores the different social and political situations of some peripheral countries, especially those of Central-Eastern Europe.

Applying methods of mass customization to the empirical process can improve the efficiency of product development process and reduce time and cost. The manufacturing process requires documentation of the production. Very often, the documentation process and the time of its formation is limited. One possible way to solve this problem is to automatically create documentation in electronic form. Then, without having to print, distribute them directly to the panel of the machine. In the process of creating manufacturing documentation, this method takes into account alternative manufacturing processes and the current availability of labor resources The article is an attempt at the analysis of the modern manufacturing systems and answering the question, how it is possible to produce without having documentation in paper form. The presented solution is used for the high-variety products manufactured in the SMEs. The method was validated in the conditions of best practice high-variety production.

During the years common understanding of the possibilities and perspectives of Virtual Reality (VR) usage has been changed. It is thought that VR is mainly used in entertainment purposes, but it is being used already for many years in different industries, and now with easier access to the hardware it became a helpful and accessible tool that could be used and developed in any field of human activities. In manufacturing, immersive technologies are mainly used nowadays for the visualisation of processes and products combining those visuals into the factory Digital Twin (DT) which is possible to view from the inside look. This feature is already being used in several manufacturing simulation tools, which enable to view onto industrial line / robotic cells via Virtual Reality glasses. However, the potential of using simulations with VR in manufacturing is not fully uncovered. The main aim of this, industrial robotics targeted research is to enable besides simulation also universal control algorithms through Virtual Reality experience, produced by game engine Unity3D, which can be easily modified for a wide range of industrial equipment. The primary outcome of this work is the development of the synchronisation model of real and virtual industrial robots and experimental testing the developed model in Virtual Reality and shop floor labs.

This paper introduces the Lean School, a Learning Factory, along with a “game” of physical simulation that is developed in it. All this is focused on teaching-learning, both of students and professionals, of the potential advantages offered by the implementation of the Lean Production in the organizations. The participants gain a practical experience, based on experimental learning, which gives them a better understanding of the principles and tools of Lean philosophy. This physical environment is not limited to theoretical teaching, but goes beyond and implements a production system near a real one. It starts from a configuration of a production plant with an unbalanced system and throughout the different iterations, called productions, introduces and implement the Lean principles, which makes its participants acquire not only knowledge but also the skills needed to implement an efficient production in their organizations. All the constituent elements of the system will be described briefly: the product, the variations thereof, the initial design with its layout, as well as the subsequent productions, and the results of learning of each one.

Opis:
The main objective of this article is to describe Industry 4.0 and the key manufacturing-technology-related technological and business challenges for manufacturing companies. The groups especially interested in the implementation of Industry 4.0 are the operations, technical, and production directors responsible for operational excellence of manufacturing plants, strategic development, and business continuity. Based on the latest Industry 4.0 and manufacturing technology market research, factories located in Poland are less technologically advanced than their counterparts in Western European plants. Accordingly, development of the model for assessing the current level of maturity for manufacturing technology related to the Industry 4.0 initiative becomes a relevant research task. In the article, key Industry 4.0-related technological areas will be described. Based on extensive research into international references and industrial consulting experiences in the industrial business consulting conducted in Polish manufacturing companies, the manufacturing technology ManuTech Maturity Model (MTMM) concept related to Industry 4.0 will be developed and presented. A substantial and innovative part of the article will be devoted to the adjustment of a proposed maturity model to specific features of the Polish industrial and manufacturing sector. This will be relevant due to the noticeable differences in the levels of technological advancement between the Western and Eastern Europe sectors.

Opis:
Background: The authors' motivation was the growing popularity and interest in both aspects as well as the attempt to identify the relationship between the intelligent factory and other models and concepts. This paper was developed to assess the state-of-the-art in the Smart Factory concept, and in particular its analysis in the context of the concept of sustainable development and green growth policy. The aim of the study was to identify a research gap as a lack of publications linking the concept of a Smart Factory with such management concepts as: lean or agile, as well as green growth policy and sustainable development. Methods: In the literature review, publications from the Web of Science and Scopus databases were analyzed. The identification of the gap was possible due to the analysis of the occurrence of the key concepts in the scientific papers which were selected by the authors. During the research, a sheet was created. It was the database of articles meeting the established criteria. Results and conclusions: There are no articles which cover the Smart Factory topic relating to lean or agile management at the same time. The systematic literature review and the analysis show that other authors rarely see lean and agile as a chance considering the Smart Factory and they do not combine these concepts. On the basis of the review it is impossible to state if the combination is possible and what the relations are. However, this topic is interesting and worth further analyses. This should be considered as a research gap. According to authors, there is a chance or even a need to use a lean and agile approach in production, resources and processes management.

A man, In order to obtain something which makes him Or Her happy, Has to per form action which are – In the opinion of others – valuable and Worth to be paid for. Already from the previous sentence we can deduce a Simple truth that there is nothing for free, each thing service Has its price. Or in other words, sometimes you have to be a giver In order to be given something later. A work is a noble act, although many May become indignant about this statement. By working we multiply things we already have, Or we Get New ones. A human activity which makes us richer, is the one which is attributable to the human nature, and an inactivity or a satisfaction with things we already have is in contradiction with this nature. Taking into account a job ethics, as moral we can consider only such an activity of an individual which has won recognition in somebody else’s eyes, the highest manifestation of which is a remuneration. Not elsewhere, but on the ground of job ethics we ecounter a dissatisfaction of some people with actions of others, e.g. with an employer’s behavior who evades the obligation to pay work. The job ethics, since of became a part of a social discussion served politicians, as well a philisophers, or clerics to fight aversion to this organization of everyday live, which is indicated by the clock and operating hours of a factory. This aversion was based on an aspiration to satisfy one’s own needs, and nothing more. A 19 th – century labourer, having been given a remuneration, which enabled him or her a poor existence – poor but existence, did not see a reason why he or she should work more. After all, outside work there were so many interesting things to do, so it was not worth to waste time for moneygrubbing.
