    W artykule przedstawiono analizę i rezultaty badań dwóch laserów QCL. Otrzymane wyniki dały możliwość oceny przydatności poszczególnych laserów do budowy łącza optoelektronicznego w otwartej przestrzeni. Przeprowadzone badania obejmowały m.in. określenie wzajemnych zależności pomiędzy czasem trwania, częstotliwością wytwarzanych impulsów oraz mocą średnią emitowanego promieniowania. Dodatkowo w artykule zamieszczono wyniki wstępnych badań układu łącza optycznego wykorzystującego ww. źródła.
    The paper presents analysis and research of two quantum cascade lasers. The results make it possible to define some lasers virtues for construction of Free Space Optical systems. The main aim of the investigations was a determination of time-energy and beam geometry dependence of the laser radiation. Additionally, the results of the preliminary investigation of the FSO system constructed at the Institute of Optoelectronics, MUT were described.

    In this paper, the performance of WDM-FSO communications system is simulation analyzed, using NRZ modulation technique over different weather conditions. Based on this technique the received signal power, signal to noise ratio, Q. factor, and BER are analyzed. The characteristics of WDM was studied for free space optical communication. Simulation results indicate that the performance of WDM-FSO are more suited for strong attenuation. On the other hand, the suitability of distance link under this technique are studied, where WDM has more advantage when used in optical communication system.

    Focusing on the history of the Polish main car factory, the FSO, the paper examines two modernisation waves in the country’s automotive industry: the socialist Government’s purchase of a license from the Italian Fiat in the 1960s and the acquisition of the factory by the Daewoo Corporation in the 1990s. The history of the FSO as an enterprise shows, above all, the pitfalls of dependent development. It has, however, resulted in the training of a class of specialists and engineers for whom the implementation of foreign technologies and management cultures presented opportunities for self-advancement, redefinitions of their identity, along with reconsiderations of the value and meaning of work.

    Atmospheric turbulence is considered as major threat to Free Space Optical (FSO) communication as it causes irradiance and phase fluctuations of the transmitted signal which degrade the performance of FSO system. Wavelength diversity is one of the techniques to mitigate these effects. In this paper, the wavelength diversity technique is applied to FSO system to improve the performance under different turbulence conditions which are modeled using Exponentiated Weibull (EW) channel. In this technique, the data was communicated through 1.55 µm, 1.31 µm, and 0.85 µm carrier wavelengths. Optimal Combining (OC) scheme has been considered to receive the signals at receiver. Mathematical equation for average BER is derived for wavelength diversity based FSO system. Results are obtained for the different link length under different turbulence conditions. The obtained average BER results for different turbulence conditions characterized by EW channel is compared with the published result of average BER for different turbulence which is presented by classical channel model. A comparative BER analysis shows that maximum advantage of wavelength diversity technique is obtained when different turbulence conditions are modeled by EW channel.

    In order to provide a novel analytically traceable free space optics (FSO) channel model for describing turbulence based irradiance fluctuations, following basic scintillation theory principles, we have derived closed-form expression for probability density function (PDF) of a new statistical Gamma–Chi-square model. Further, capitalizing on provided model, error performances of FSO system over on-off keying (OOK) transmission scheme both in the presence of atmospheric turbulence and misalignment fading (pointing error) is investigated. For both cases, the average bit error rate (ABER) at the receiving side of the system is determined in an analytically closed form. The results are graphically presented in order to analyze the impact of different levels of turbulence, as well as other relevant parameters, on the quality of the received signal in the OOK modulated FSO system.

    Przedmiotem pracy jest analiza warunków pracy łączy optycznych w otwartej przestrzeni. Przedstawiono podstawowe uwarunkowania poprawnej pracy takich łączy. W oparciu o pewne doświadczenia eksploatacyjne z tego zakresu i na podstawie przedstawionej analizy zaproponowano koncepcję łącza dwufalowego, wskazując na wybrane długości fal do pracy łącza. W podsumowaniu wskazano na właściwości tego typu rozwiązań komunikacyjnych i na pola ich zastosowań w technice przesyłania informacji.
    The demand for implementation of digital data transmission lines in various topographies and field conditions is increasing. Such diversity requires many original solutions. Certainly one of the solutions are links that use free space to transmit information on optical wavelengths. The idea is not new, but the new optical and electronic technologies make this possible. The subject of investigations is to analyze the working conditions of optical links in open spaces. The issue is known in the literature as Free Space Optics Communication (FSO). In this paper there are presented the basic conditions for correct work of such links. On a basis of certain operating experience in this field and the presented analysis there was proposed the concept of a dual wavelength link with indicating the selected length waves for the link work . In the summary there are described the properties of such solutions in the fields of communications and their applications to information transmission technology.

    This paper investigates the differential binary modulation for decode-and-forward (DF) based relay-assisted free space optical (FSO) network under the effect of strong atmospheric turbulence together with misalignment error (ME). The atmospheric fading links experience K-distributed turbulence. First we derive novel closed form expression for average bit error rate (BER) and outage probability (OP) in terms of Meijer’s G function. Further, the OP of differential DF-FSO system with multiple relays is derived. We also analyze the asymptotic performance for the sake of getting the order of diversity and the coding gain. The power allotment term is utilized to examine the effect of different power allotment techniques on BER and OP. The simulation results have been used to validate the derived analytical results.

    Artykuł przedstawia społeczną charakterystykę załogi FSO na Żeraniu w 1956 r. na tle ogólnopolskiego środowiska robotniczego. Jej profil był zbliżony do „starych” ośrodków przemysłowych. Skład załogi, złożonej z relatywnie dużej liczby robotników typu proletariacko-produktywnego, pielęgnujących tradycyjne wartości i zdolnych do działań zbiorowych w obronie swoich interesów, mógł mieć duże znaczenie dla postawy robotników FSO (partyjnych i bezpartyjnych) w 1956 r. Jej przejawem był wybór na sekretarza Komitetu Zakładowego FSO, wbrew nieformalnym wytycznym, młodego robotnika Lechosława Goździka oraz odrzucenie oficjalnych związków zawodowych i poparcie „żerańskiego” projektu utworzenia samorządu robotniczego.
    The article presents the social characteristics of the Żerań Passenger Car Factory (PCF) staff in 1956 against the background of the nationwide working class. Their profile was similar to the ‘old’ industrial centres. The staff composition, made up of a relatively large number of workers of the proletarian productive type, cultivating traditional values and capable of collective action in defence of their interests, could have had a significant impact on the attitude of the PCF workers (both those belonging to the party and non-party staff) in 1956. This was reflected in the election, against informal guidelines, of a young worker, Lechosław Goździk, as secretary of the PCF Works Committee, and in the rejection of official trade unions and support for the ‘Żerań’ project to create a workers’ self-government.

    The end of the Cold War marked a period of substantial changes in the global political system, but also a moment of transformation of the Russian Federation and CIS states’ intelligence. This article identifies the key elements that have influenced the evolution of Russian intelligence structures and doctrinessince 1991. It delves into the fundamental aspects of these changes: the principles governing intelligence institutions, organizational dimensions, and the scope of operational and analytical activities, encompassing the adoption of new methods, techniques, and tools.

    In this paper, the influence of a zero and a non-zero boresight pointing errors on the performances of free-space optic transmission over the Málaga atmospheric turbulence channel is considered. Closed form expressions for a zero boresight channel model probability density function, non-zero boresight channel model probability density function, as well as a bit-error rate over a binary phase shift keying modulation transmission are provided. Numerical results for zero and non-zero boresight pointing errors are graphically presented.

    In this paper, performance analysis of free space optical (FSO) system operating in conditions of strong atmospheric turbulence over Gamma–Chi-square turbulence model, has been carried out. We have observed reception over multi-pulse pulse-position (MPPM) modulation format for the case of strong atmospheric turbulence conditions modeled with Gamma–Chi-square turbulence model and have compared it with turbulence modeling distributions such are: Gamma–Gamma distribution, K-distribution, negative exponential distribution, log–normal distribution. First, we have provided closed-form analytical expressions for average bit error rate (ABER) at the reception for each observed case and then based on them, we have obtained numerical and Monte Carlo simulation results in order to observe turbulence level impact on system performance.

    The article presents and characterizes the results of road tests that the prototype of the FSO Syrena passenger car underwent at the Motor Transport Institute (ITS) in Warsaw in 1955. The final report from the tests carried out at MTI, kept in the archives, was subject to a detailed analysis and the conclusions have been presented in this article. The road tests carried out at MTI in 1955 served the FSO engineers in designing the series-production version of the Syrena car, whose production started in 1957. The FSO Syrena, over almost 30 years, was the first popular car for hundreds of thousands of Polish families, and today it has become a legendary vehicle, synonymous with the motoring of the PPR's day.
    W artykule zaprezentowano i scharakteryzowano wyniki badań drogowych, które przeszedł w 1955 roku w Instytucie Transportu Samochodowego (ITS) w Warszawie, prototyp samo-chodu osobowego marki FSO Syrena. Przechowywane w archiwum sprawozdanie końcowe z przeprowadzonych w ITS badań poddano szczegółowej analizie, a wnioski zaprezento-wano w artykule. Badania drogowe przeprowadzone w ITS 1955 r. posłużyły inżynierom z FSO przy projektowaniu seryjnej wersji samochodu Syrena, którą rozpoczęto produkować w 1957 r. FSO Syrena, na przestrzeni niemal 30 lat, była pierwszym samochodem popular-nym dla setek tysięcy polskich rodzin, a dziś stała się pojazdem legendarnym, synonimem motoryzacji doby PRL.
    В статье представлены и характеризуются результаты дорожных испытаний, прошедших в Институте автомобильного транс-порта (ITS) в Варшаве, прототипе пассажирского автомобиля FSO Syrena в 1955 году. Был подробно проанализирован окончательный отчет исследований, проведенных в ИТС, хранящихся в архивах, и выводы были представлены в статье. Дорожные испытания, проведенные в ITS 1955, служили инженерам FSO при разработке серийной версии автомобиля Syrena, который был запущен в 1958 году. FSO Syrena, почти 30 лет назад, был первым автомобилем, популярным для сотен тысяч польских семей, и сегодня он стал транспортным средством легендарный, синонимичный с автомобилем в день Польской Народной Республики.

    Stefan Staszewski, born in 1906 in Warsaw as Gustaw Szuster, was an active member of the Young Communist League of Poland and the Communist Party of Poland, trained from 1926 to 1928 in the International Lenin School in Moscow. He was arrested three times in Poland for communist activity. In 1934, he fled to the USSR, where he was reprimanded for membership in M. Lampe’s group, and then expelled from the AUCP(b) and arrested by the NKVD. He was sentenced to 15 years in a Kolyma Gulag camp. He was released in 1945 thanks to Bolesław Bierut’s intervention, and after coming to Poland, he joined the Polish Workers’ Party (PPR) and changed his name to Stefan Staszewski. The Secretary of the PPR Central Committee dispatched him to Katowice to take the position of the secretary for industrial affairs. Soon, he became the editor-in-chief of Trybuna Robotnicza, which achieved considerable success under his management. In 1948, the party leadership gave him the very responsible post of the director of the Department of Press and Publications of the PUWP’s Central Committee. Staszewski changed radically the organizational system of the party press and of the publishing businesses’ activity, and contributed to the development of communist journalism. In 1954, he was dismissed from the post of the Department of Press and Publications’ head and moved to the Ministry of Agriculture. During the thaw, he became a critic of the former party leadership and began to actively aid supporters of reforms. As the First Secretary of the PUWP Warsaw Committee, in October 1956 he organized and supervised rallies at Warsaw universities and work places. During the Eighth Plenary Session of the PUWP Central Committee, he was attacked by activists belonging to the “Natolinian group”. His stance was violently criticised by Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, which resulted in his dismissal from the post of secretary of the Warsaw party organization. Staszewski largely contributed to the success of the party reformers and to positive transformations initiated during the Eighth Plenary Session. Having left the PUWP Warsaw Committee, he worked for a short time in the Polish Press Agency. His relationship with new party authorities steadily became worse, which resulted in him being removed from the post of the assistant of the member of PUWP Central Committee. That is why he began to work for the State Scientific Publishers (PWN) in the editorial section of the Great Universal Encyclopaedia. In 1968, party propaganda presented him, together with Roman Zambrowski, as the most dangerous threat to the PRL’s constitutional order. In the 1970s, he maintained close relations with the Workers’ Defence Committee. Under martial law, his flat was searched by the Security Service.
