Opis:
Bearings are one of the pivotal parts of rotating machines. The health of a bearing is responsible for the hassle-free operation of a machine. As vibration signatures give intimations of machine failure at an earlier stage, mostly vibration-based condition monitoring is used to monitor bearing’s health for avoiding the risk of failure. In this work, a simulation-based approach is adopted to identify surface defects at ball bearing raceways. The vibration data in time and frequency domain is captured by FFT analyzer from an experimental setup. The time frequency domain conversion of a raw time domain data was carried out by wavelet packet transform, as it takes into account the transients and spectral frequencies. The rotor bearing model is simulated in Ansys. Finally, most influencing statistical features were extracted by employing Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and fed to Multiclass Support Vector Machine (MSVM). To train the algorithm, the simulated data is used whereas the data acquired from FFT analyzer is used for testing. It can be concluded that the defects are characterized by Ball Pass Frequency (BPF) at inner race and outer raceway as indicated in the literature. The developed model is capable to monitor bearing’s health which gives an average accuracy of 99%.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of experimental research on the impact of changes in the rotation speed of a hydraulic external gear pump on pressure pulsation in the discharge line for a constant value of pressure. The analyses were performed in the time domain (analysis of peak-to-peak pressure) and frequency domain (analysis of changes in frequency and pulsation amplitude). The results of experimental studies have shown that the change of the pump’s rotation speed influences changes in the course of pressure pulsation (peak-to-peak pressure and amplitude), in some cases significantly increasing the parameters mentioned. The obtained test results can be used to develop recommendations for designing hydraulic and hydrotronic systems equipped with a variable-speed pump drive.
Otrzymane wyniki badań, mogą zostać wykorzystane do opracowania zaleceń dotyczących projektowania układów hydraulicznych i hydrotronicznych, wyposażonych w napęd zmiennoobrotowy pompy.

Opis:
This study investigates the effects of sway and roll excitations on sloshing liquid loads in a tank, using Ansys Fluent software. The model considered in the study is a 1:50 scaled membrane-type tank, based on a KC-1 membrane LNG tank designed by Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS). The volume of fluid (VOF) method is used to track the free surface inside the tank, and the standard k-ε model is applied to express the turbulent flow of the liquid. To explore the motion of the tank under excitation, a user-defined function (UDF) and a dynamic mesh technique are employed to control the external forces exerted on the tank through its motion. The results, in the form of time series data on the sloshing pressures in the tank under pure sway, roll, and coupled sway-roll, are analysed, with specific ranges for the excitation amplitudes and frequencies. We show that variations in excitation frequency and amplitude significantly influence the sloshing loads. Sloshing loads are found to intensify when the excitation frequency matches the tank’s primary natural frequency, 1.0 ω'1. Furthermore, with coupled sway-roll excitations, the sloshing loads are weakened when the sway and roll are in-phase and are intensified when these are out-of-phase. Fast Fourier transform analysis provides insights into the frequency domain, showing that the dominant frequency is 0.88 Hz and it is approximately equal to the tank’s primary natural frequency, 1.0 ω'1.

Opis:
In order to solve the security problems associated with medical information and improve the robustness of watermarking algorithms for medical images, a unique approach to watermarking based on block operations is presented. This study considers the medical images as the cover image, with the watermark logo considered secret information that needs to be protected over the wireless transmission in telemedicine. In the embedding phase, input with the discrete fractional Fourier transform is first applied to the input, and then level 2 wavelet decomposition is carried out to determine the optimal sub-band tree. For each tree node on level 2, the approximated and detailed coefficient is determined through the feature analysis perspective. The novelty of the adopted methodology is its simplified transformation and embedding process. Upon receiving a complex matrix, it separates the real part from imaginary part where block transformation is carried out for embedding the watermark pixels. In the extraction phase, just a reverse operation is performed. The watermarking evaluation is performed by simulating various image processing attacks on watermarked medical images. The simulation outcome demonstrates the effectiveness of that proposed watermarking scheme against various attacks. The proposed watermarking technique is robust under various attacks based on image statistics such as PSNR, BER, and the correlation coefficient.

Opis:
In this paper the analysis of backlash influence on the spectrum of torque at the output shaft of a cycloidal gearbox has been performed. The model of the single stage cycloidal gearbox was designed in the MSC Adams. The analysis for the excitation with the torque and the analysis with constant angular velocity of the input shaft were performed. For these analyses, the amplitude spectrums of the output torque for different backlashes was solved using FFT algorithm. The amplitude spectrums of the combined sine functions composed of the impact to impact times between the cycloidal wheel and the external sleeves were computed for verification. The performed studies show, that the backlash has significant influence on the output torque amplitude spectrum. Unfortunately the dependencies between the components of the spectrum and the backlash could not be expressed by linear equations, when vibrations of the output torque in the range of (350 Hz – 600 Hz) are considered. The gradual dependence can be found in the spectrum determined for the combined sine functions with half-periods equal impact-to-impact times. The spectrum is narrower for high values of backlash.

The popularity of asynchronous machines, particularly squirrel cage machines, stems from their inexpensive production costs, resilience, and low maintenance requirements. Unfortunately, potential flaws in these devices might have a negative impact on the facility's profitability and service quality. As a result, diagnostic tools for detecting flaws in these types of devices must be developed. Asynchronous machine problems can be diagnosed using a variety of methods. Signal processing techniques based on extracting information from characteristic quantities of electrical machine operation can provide highly useful information about flaws. The purpose of this research is to develop efficient algorithms based on numerous signal processing approaches for correctly detecting asynchronous cage machine rotor defects (rotor bar ruptures).

Opis:
The linear feed axes are critical subsystems in many production machines and have important responsibilities such as transporting workpieces and tools in the process. Therefore, the component’s working condition is crucial for the production of high-quality products. Because these systems gradually deteriorate, it is necessary to detect these changes and occurring faults with condition monitoring systems. In this study, the motor current of feed axes is monitored for axis misalignment that occurs during or after assembly. We conduct diagnosis with Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and statistical methods in order to differentiate different misalignment scenarios and operating constraints of the feed axis. Different states are achieved by simulating left and right axis misalignment and operating the table at different speeds and strokes.

Opis:
Instead of the classical finite element (FE) based microstructure simulation, a Fast Fourier transform (FFT) based microstructure simulation, introduced by Moulinec and Suquet (1994, 1998), also enables the computation of highly resolved microstructural fields. In this context, the microscopic boundary value problem is captured by the Lippmann-Schwinger equation and solved by using Fast Fourier transforms (FFT) and fixed-point iterations. To decrease the computational effort of the fixed-point solver, Kochmann et al. (2019) introduced a model order reduction (MOR) technique based on solving the Lippmann-Schwinger equation in Fourier space with a reduced set of frequencies. Thereby, the accuracy of this MOR technique depends on the number of used frequencies and the choice of frequencies that are considered within the simulation. Instead of the earlier proposed fixed (Kochmann et al., 2019) or geometrically adapted (Gierden et al., 2021b) sampling patterns, we propose a sampling pattern which is updated after each load step based on the current strain. To show the precision of such a strain-based sampling pattern, an elasto-plastic two-phase composite microstructure is investigated.

Reducing contaminant emissions is an important task of any industry, included the maritime one. In fact, in April 2018, IMO (International Maritime Organization) adopted an Initial Strategy on reduction of Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships. An essential part responsible for producing these emissions is the diesel engine. For that reason vessels include separation systems for heavy fuel oils. The purpose of this work is to improve the predictive maintenance techniques incorporating new intelligent approaches. An analysis of vibrations of this separation system was made and their characteristics were used in a Genetic Neuro-Fuzzy System in order to design an intelligent maintenance based on condition monitoring. The achieved results show that the proposed method provides an improvement since it indicates if a maintenance operation is necessary before the schedule one or if it could be possible extend the next maintenance service.

A lightning protection system (LPS) of an urban 110 kV substation is designed and analysed according to NFPA 780 and IEC 62305-3 standards. The analysis of the LPS is established on the value of risk assessment. The total area of the plant is described by one soil layer with uniform resistivity. This study aims to improve the understanding of an unexpected manner of the grounding system beneath lightning currents by clarifying the basic concepts of the lightning protection level and the new design procedure in this paper was clarified according to NFPA-780 level 1 for a lightning protection system. The program is integrated with the CDEGS software, which provides effective geometrical modeling with object and result visualization. Furthermore, module and automated fast Fourier transform (FFT) is implemented in this study to simulate electromagnetic fields in the time and frequency domains. These current values are compared to the desired protection levels within the standards. The study results show that for the improved protection of the system against lightning, the total power grid must be considered as a source of improvement for studying shielding influence and the protection levels provided inside this substation.

The present work is focusses on identification of damage and estimate residual life of composite healthy and cracked beams. Free vibrational analysis is carried out on composite beam made of Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) with a different crack orientation. A Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) spectrum analyzer associated with engineering data management (EDM) software utilized for experimental analysis to detect presence of damage in cracked composite beam. Finite element method (FEM) software called Analysis of composite pre/post (ACP) available in ANSYS R3 is used to compare the natural frequency results of healthy composite beam with cracked composite beam with different ply orientations. For validation of numerical modal evaluation, the consequences acquired from ANSYS R3 Finite element analysis (FEA) software are in comparison with experimental results received by impact hammer method. The fatigue life of a damaged composite beam is estimated the use of “Hwang and Han’s” fatigue life equation.

A structural beam is a common element in many mechanical structures such as ship propeller shaft, crane boom, and aircraft wings. In the present paper experimental and numerical modal analysis are carried out for estimating the damage, geometric location of the damage, severity of damage and residual life of structural beam to prevent unexpected failures of mechanical structures. Experimental and numerical modal analysis results for healthy and cracked beam are compared for validation of numerical methodology used in the present paper. Experimental modal analysis is performed on both healthy and cracked beam with the help of impact hammer, acceleration sensor and FFT (Fast Fourier Transformer) analyzer associated with EDM (Engineering Data Management) software. Modal tests are conducted using impact method on selected locations of the entire healthy and cracked beam to find the first three natural frequencies, which are used to detect the presence of damage and geometric location of the damage. Three parametric studies are carried out to know the effect of crack depth, crack location and crack orientation on the natural frequencies of the cracked beam. Finally, the residual life of a healthy and cracked beam was estimated using Basiquin’s equation and finite element analysis software called ANSYS 18.1.
