Opis:
This paper deals with the wear characteristics and defects developed during friction stir welding at different process parameter of aluminium alloy (AA) 6061-T6 having thickness 6 mm. Four welded samples are prepared with rotational speed 500 rpm, 710 rpm, 1000 rpm and with welding speed of 25 mm/min & 40 mm/min. Welded samples and base material are put in wear condition under grinding machine for 120 s. Material removal is measure by taking the difference of weight before and after wear. Different types of defects and fracture are observed on the wear surface. These defects and fractures are analysed under field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). It is concluded that material removal from welded sample is less compared to base metal, hence wear resistance increases after friction stir welding.
Praca dotyczy charakterystyki zużycia i uszkodzeń podczas zgrzewania tarciowego z przemieszaniem stopu aluminium (AA) 6061T6 o grubości 6 mm dla zmiennych parametrów. Cztery zgrzewane próbki były wykonane z prędkością obrotową 500 obr/min, 710 obr/min, 1000 obr/min dla prędkości zgrzewania 25 mm/min i 40 mm/min.

Opis:
The phosphosilicate for planar waveguides fabrication by using sol-gel, and particularly erbium-doped waveguide amplifiers, is reviewed. In particular, efforts to use sol-gel to improve molecular homogeneity in Er-doped phosphosilicate-based monolith and thin films will be discussed. A variety of material studies was carried out to investigate and optimize the sample preparation condition for such application. These include X-ray diffraction, the Fourier transform infrared and optical transmittance, absorption and refractive index calculation. The erbium nitrate precursors use is shown to alter the Er³⁺ ions doping in the prepared samples thermally treated in the final monolith glass form, in comparison to the use of thin film phosphosilicate sol-gel sample. Excess heat treatment is used to force prepared samples crystallization, moreover resulting photoluminescence analysis is used to detect the co-operative-up-conversion sample properties before and after heating.

Opis:
An excellent combination of hardness, strength, stiffness and high melting point has proved the WC-Co as an ideal material for tools that are used for metal cutting, coal mining, oil drilling, etc. The ongoing research in WC-Co is focussed on enhancing its wear resistant properties as much as possible. For the purpose, many attempts have been made to study the tribological behaviour of WC-Co for a long time. Researchers have used various grades of WC-Co in different working environments and accordingly they have characterized the wear phenomena involved there within. In this direction of research, the present paper makes an attempt to understand various wear behaviours in WC 94%-Co 6% hard metal alloy. WC-Co was used as a tip of the coal cutting tool named radial pick. Two radial picks have been taken for critical analysis through field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) attached with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). In this work, the failure behaviours in the tools have been divided into five categories: (1) Abrasion on individual grain; (2) Corrosion in carbide grains; (3) Fragmentation and removal of WC grains; (4) Pores in WC grains; and (5) Coal and rock embedding. The most possible reasons behind each failure phenomenon have been explained comprehensively with the help of high-resolution microscopic images. However, it is usually observed that, initially, the tool gets minor cracks due to sudden impact. These cracks provide a path to the rock and coal particles to get entrenched inside the microstructure of cemented carbide. Finally, the intermixed external elements degrade the binder content (i.e. cobalt) and the tool becomes useless.

Opis:
The present study explores the influence of variables like particle size of coal, load, speed and sliding distance on weight loss in manganese-steel (Mn-steel). The observations are made using pin-on-disc apparatus. Specimen prepared from Mn-steel used for the wear test. The size and shape of specimen is in accordance with ASTM G99 standard. From design of experiment (DOE) procedure the variables load were altered to assess the weight loss in material. It is observed that with the increase in particle size and load, the weight loss increases when other variables are constant. Mn-steel shows decrease in weight loss at higher load due to property of dipole interaction and stacking fault energy (SFE). Decrease in weight loss at higher load results in transition in wear mechanism from scratch to groove formation as observed under field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM).

Opis:
In the Ghibaudo (1992) classification, the Upper Jurassic Lower Cieszyn Shales (Vendryně Formation) exposed in Goleszów (southern Poland) show sedimentological features typical of the MyG (muddy gravel beds) facies. Two lithic components of this facies have been petrographically studied: calcareous shales, which are principal constituent of the olistostrome matrix, and the rocks displaying field characteristics of marls, which occur as olistoliths. Two factors controlling the mode of intrabasinal redeposition have been recognized: the primary depositional environment, and the presence of calcareous nannofossils in the original sediments. Because the rocks occurring as olistoliths and those forming the matrix are compositionally similar but differ in grain size and clay abundance, it is reasonable to assume that the matrix rocks were originally deposited in quieter water conditions than the future olistoliths. Despite post-sedimentary modification, FESEM/BS imagery of the marls from the olistoliths reveals coccoliths in their groundmass, which are hold together with calcite overgrowth cement; this feature is eogenetic. Thus, the presence of coccoliths appears to be the crucial factor that made possible early hardening of the sediments and subsequently their redeposition as lithic blocks. This process in the starting sediments for the olistostrome matrix was inhibited by clay. Thus, they remained unconsolidated and were then redeposited as muds.

Opis:
The present work comprises the development of Al6061/nano Al2O3 composites with 0 to 4 weight percent in steps of 0.5 wt. % of nano alumina particles by using ultrasonic assisted stir casting. Casted samples were subjected to heat treatment and hot forging. Further forged and heat-treated gear blanks of nano Al2O3 (0 to 3.0 weight %) reinforced nanocomposites were machined to make spur gears for the wear test. The results have shown that nano Al2O3 reinforcement in the Al6061 matrix with heat treatment and forging improves the hardness and compressive strength up to 3.5 wt. %, after that, it starts decreasing because of the agglomeration of nano alumina particles. SEM results reveal grain refinement of the pure alloy after reinforcement. Removal of porosity and voids observed after forging operation. Wear resistance increasing with incorporation of Al2O3 nanoparticles in base alloy, reinforcement wt. %, precipitation hardening and hot forging also improves wear resistance and mechanical properties. These composites have widespread applications in gear, brake discs, crankshaft, clutch plates, pistons, and other components of automobiles and aircraft structures.
