Opis:
This article is devoted to the interpretation of Margaret Atwood’s novel The Handmaid’s Tale. It depicts the changes that have taken place in the United States of America, where the political system has been transformed following a coup d’état and the seizure of power by religious fundamentalists. The writer devotes a great deal of space in the work to the situation of women, so the article uses the perspective of feminist criticism. This made it possible to describe the barbaric laws that particularly affected women. This optic opened up different levels of interpretation, such as the limitations of being a woman. Margaret Atwood’s take on the novel, however, not only undertakes a critique of the regime of power, but also points to the weaknesses of liberal democracy. Accordingly, the article devotes space to the issue of women’s economic oppression, an environmental issue. Furthermore, the diversity of women in terms of their position in the social hierarchy, age, sexuality or reproductive capacity is captured. It seems, therefore, that the writer takes an example from her female readers, which has been seen as a turn towards intersectionality.

Opis:
The discussion of the ways one conceives of and reflex upon the procedures of archiving the opus of actresses active in the socialist period represents one of the urging tasks of both theatre studies and feminist criticism in Croatia, given the relative scarcity of interest for this area of research within Croatian theatre academia. This study presents the results of a research done on the work of one of the leading Croatian actresses after WWII, Neva Rošić, which mostly rely on the discourse analysis of theatre reviews, interviews, personal letters, articles written by the actress herself and other media reports on her major successes on the stage. A whole array of sources is thus summoned to corroborate the thesis that the female acting practice in this period, belonging as it does to the poetics of impersonation, could figure as an interesting ground for the analysis of both the issues of female acting authorship, and the cultural construction of gender norms, as well as the means and outcomes of their performative subversion.

Opis:
This article examines the pericope of Lk 10:38-42 through the lens of gender. It presents the specific contributions of E. Schüssler Fiorenza and also M. Perroni, both of whom have interpreted the passage according to a feminist approach. The former has developed some hermeneutical criteria while the latter has insisted on female discipleship, claiming that, for Luke, the women are believers but not missionaries. The present article turns critically on the essential points of the two commentators, showing that a careful philological and contextual analysis does not allow the episode to be read as a representation of ministry in the Church. Instead, Mary’s behaviour of placing herself at the Lord’s feet appears alienating, an action which is both surprising and contrary to the social canons. The episode lays stress on precisely this difference, showing that the two poles are not "service" and "listening" but rather "distracting preoccupations" versus a "disciple’s attitude". The behaviour of the two sisters thus functions as a mirror by which the reader is invited to discern different attitudes towards Jesus.

Opis:
The article presents the most important research perspective regarding women’s and girls’ diary writing in English, French and Polish. The analysis discusses major works on the women’s autobiographical writing, monographs and collective works on diaries. Contrary to appearances, at the beginning the autobiographical turn in the feminist criticism did not include the diaries written by girls and women – as paraliterary, imperfect texts. On the fringes of the feminist interest in diaries were the French studies (including Philippe Lejeune, the most outstanding researcher in this subject) and still rudimentary studies in Poland. The lack of interest in the Polish personal diaries, it seems, results from the lack of bibliographic studies and an extensive editorial project, which would disclose a great number of texts of significant value for our diary writing hidden in the archives.

The aim of this paper, is to try to use feminist and gender theories to read Slavic cultural material, as well as to complete the picture of diversity of Slavic gender orders. For this purpose, the paper focuses on biographies written by Renáta Tyršová devoted to her father and husband. The analysis of this case requires using the feminist criticism of autobiography theory, which is hardly theoretically absorbed within Slavistics. Article seeks to explore the complexities of the relationship between female individual autobiographical “self”, structure of female gender in the bourgeois society of the 19th century, and finally collective idea of nationalism.

The aim of the study is to consider feminist retellings of myths and legends. As an example, Margaret Atwood’s book The Penelopiad is analyzed. The interpretation is situated in a broader context of intertextual practices characteristic of the feminist vision of literature. I present the ideas which Atwood shares with authors engaged in women’s movement. Among these there is Atwood’s understanding of intertextuality (noticeable especially in The Penelopiad). Bibliographical basis of the study comprises books which are fundamental to feminist and gender criticism (e.g. Poetics of Gender, ed. by N. Miller, New York 1986; S. M. Gilbert, S. Gubar The Madwoman in the Attic. The Woman Writer and the Nineteenth- Century Literary Imagination, New Haven and London 1984). What is more, the study refers to the books which allow considering the notion of intertextuality (G. Allen, Intertextuality, London and New York 2010, J. Clayton. E. Rothstein (eds.), Influence and Intertextuality in Literary History, Wisconsin 1991) and connecting the interpretation with the problems crucial to contemporary literary studies (L. Hutcheon L. A Poetics of Postmodernism. History, Theory, Fiction, New York and London 1988, B. Johnson, A World of Difference, Baltimore and London 1989).

The article aims to trace the reception of Antigone on the basis of femi- nist and gender criticism. It turns out that the same categories noticed by individual researchers are assessed and valorized differently, accordingly to the feminist trend they identify with. The author decides, therefore, to reverse the optics and evaluate the discourse through the prism of the method of analysis and interpretation of the mythological heroine.

Autorka analizuje wybrane dzieła trzech autorów serbskich: Ivo Andricia (Most na Drinie), Miodraga Bulatovicia (Czerwony kogut leci wprost do nieba) i Danila Kiša (Ogród, popiół).
The Author made an attempt to the analysis of chosen works written by three Serbian writers: Ivo Andrić (The Bridge on the Drina), Miodrag Bulatović (The Red Rooster Flies Heavenwards) and Danilo Kiš (Garden, Ashes). Her purpose is to answer the question which is focused on the category of the antiprotagonist in the context of the disability studies. The Author is focused on the similarities in representations of the disability in the postwar Serbian prose. She shows also the necesserity of the connection between the disability studies and other research perspectives.

Opis:
The paper is initiated by a brief outline of the development of women’s literature in the ex-“East European” countries since 1989. Then it turns to feminist literary theory tracking two different periods of its reception by, and adaption to, literary criticism in post-communist academic research. The concepts of women’s generations and women’s literary canon, vital for the western tradition of gynocriticism, are closely analyzed in line with their relevance to present-day women’s literature in post-communist culture. The paper ends with a presentation of a threefold model of the prospective to speak of women’s literature imbedded in, or in counter stance to, the traditional literary canon.
