The period of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century was a very profitable period for Łódź and consequently for ecclesial structures. Factories and enterprises, which were set up in this period, attracted to Łódź many people from various parts of the continent, including many Protestants. This led to the building of four churches (Holy Trinity’s, St. John’s, St. Matthew’s, St. Michael’s) which up till now (although in new circumstances) exist in our city. At the same time active parishes were formed around them and gathered evangelicals in Łódź. Despite organizational difficulties this period was the time of development for protestant community in Łódź. This period ended with the outbreak of the war in 1939 and its consequences, i.e. deportations in 1945.

The article presents the experience of synodal work from the Lutheran perspective. For this purpose, it presents the most important global synodal body of Lutheranism – the General Assemblies of the Lutheran World Federation, as well as the most important body of this type in the Polish context – the Synod of the Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession in Poland. Then, the powers of both these bodies are analyzed to show that they are not limited only to technical and organizational issues, but also extend to the area of defining the truths of faith. In the next step, the search for theological premises for synodal work was undertaken, focusing on the concept of the universal priesthood of all believers and the principles of the Lutheran hermeneutics of Holy Scripture. Finally, a specific example of a discussion on confirmation in the Polish Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession shows how the Lutheran synodal process can look like in practice. Finally, some indispensable elements for the success of the synodal process have been identified.

Opis:
The regulatory committee has not coped satisfactorily with the tasks imposed by the legislator. One reason is obviously an undervaluation of (by about a hundred times) of property claims made by the Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession. Nevertheless, strict adherence to the norms set forth in the law and ordinance of the ministry permitted a reduction of any undue claims laid by the Church, shortly after the committee was appointed, to a legally viable extent through the elimination of inadmissible petitions. Properly conducted conciliatory proceedings would have had a similar effect. What has borne heavily on the outcome of regulatory proceedings is their slow course (some cases linger on for as long as 12 years instead of expected 3 to 6 months), which is partly due to the fact that the sessions of adjudicating panels took place only once a week. One has to note that decisions made by regulatory committees, which are specially appointed state-ecclesiastical bodies, have a significant impact on commune budgets, particularly in smaller communes, and the established mode of adjudication (in practice for sued legal persons it is a single-instance process) causes possible errors to be irreparable. Further research into this issue may serve as a contribution (however modest it might be) to any work on the reprivatization bill, also applicable to natural persons.

Celem artykułu jest pokazanie Śląskiego Kościoła Ewangelickiego Augsburskiego Wyznania jako instytucji znaczącej w kształtowaniu otwartej tożsamości religijnej młodzieży uczącej się w polskich szkołach na Zaolziu. Przedstawione zostały wybrane działania edukacyjne Kościoła, zwłaszcza te będące próbami twórczego współdziałania ekumenicznego z innymi Kościołami.
This study is an attempt to view educational activities of the Silesian Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession in Zaolzie in the Czech Republic – in the context of its tasks related to enhancing religious identity forming of youth from Zaolzie, as well as the tasks which fulfill the needs of contemporary youth. The aim of the study is to present the Silesian Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession as an important institution which creates open religious identity of the youth attending Polish schools in Zaolzie. What is also presented here are some selected educational activities of the Evangelical Church, especially the activities which aim at creative ecumenical cooperation between various churches.

Przedstawione zostały wybrane zagadnienia tematyki, zwłaszcza działania, które noszą znamiona specyficznych uwarunkowań wielokulturowego i wielowyznaniowego środowiska, jak również - między innymi w konsekwencji tych uwarunkowań - są próbami twórczego odkrywania jedności w różnorodności, czyli współdziałania ekumenicznego różnych Kościołów.
This study is an attempt to look at educational and social activities of the Silesian Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession in Zaolzie in the Czech Republic. It analyses both specific socio-cultural conditions, their tasks and aims and takes into account the needs of nowadays youth and the ways of satisfying them. In this study a few problems and topics have been chosen for analysis, especially the activities which bear traits of specific conditions of multicultural and multi-faith environment of the church that are also attempts of creative discovery of unity in diversity or in other words the ecumenical cooperation between various churches.

The Sejm’s Commission of Social Politics and Family introduced a project of the law that pioneers a new type of adoption to the Polish law called “recommended adoption”. Generally speaking, the adoption in question allows the parents to point out the adopters. The parents’ choice is, without prejudice to the other provisions, binding for the court. The paper’s aim is to analyze the new legal institution in terms of theology and law of the Roman Catholic Church and the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland. The conclusion is that the proposed law is coherent with the teaching and legal discipline of the Churches. But there is still space for de lege ferenda postulate, that the bill’s list of candidates for the adopters should be extended to include the sponsors. The sponsors seem to be very suitable candidates for adopters. First, because the parents themselves pointed out the sponsors, and secondly, because both the Catholic and the Lutheran legal regulations demand a lot from sponsors with the result that they already are well evaluated and carefully selected persons.
Sejmowa Komisja Polityki Społecznej i Rodziny zgłosiła projekt ustawy, który wprowadza nowy typ przysposobienia do polskiego prawa – „przysposobienie ze wskazaniem”. Ogólnie mówiąc, ten rodzaj przysposobienia pozwala rodzicom na wskazanie przysposabiających. Wybór rodziców jest, o ile inne przepisy nie stanowią inaczej, wiążący dla sądu. Celem artykułu jest analiza tej nowej instytucji prawnej w perspektywie teologii i prawa Kościoła rzymskokatolickiego i Kościoła Ewangelicko-Augsburskiego w Rzeczpospolitej Polskiej. Wniosek jest taki, że proponowana ustawa jest zgodna z nauką i dyscypliną prawną obu tych Kościołów. Należy zauważyć, że jest miejsce na postulat de lege ferenda, aby lista kandydatów na przysposabiających była rozszerzona i zawierała także rodziców chrzestnych. Rodzice chrzestni bowiem wydają się być bardzo odpowiednimi kandydatami na przysposabiających. Po pierwsze, to rodzice biologiczni dziecka samodzielnie wskazują rodziców chrzestnych, a po drugie, zarówno katolickie, jak luterańskie regulacje prawne stawiają przed chrzestnymi wysokie wymagania, w wyniku czego są oni dobrze ocenionymi i starannie wybranymi osobami.

The paper discusses the issue of historical furnishing (mainly of 17th and 18th centuries) preserved in Lutheran churches that have not changed their confession identity. Descriptions of the most interesting elements of furnishing of churches in Pasym, Szczytno, Sorkwity, Kętrzyn, Dźwierzuty, Łęguty and Pasłęk as well as in Dąbrówno and Gierzwałd are preceded with an extensive introduction explaining the assumptions of Lutheran Church art, sketchily outlining the development of Lutheran art within the area of the present Masurian diocese, and explaining the historical reasons for the today’s dispersion of Lutheran heritage in the region.

Im ersten Teil der Studie wird die Grundlage für die Beteiligung von Nichtordinierten an der Evangelisch-Augsburgischen (Lutherischen) Kirche in Polen in Form des reformatorischen Konzepts des allgemeinen Priestertums aller Gläubigen/aller Getauften dargestellt. Im zweiten Teil behandelt die Studie die praktische Beteiligung von Nichtordinierten an der Praxis der Lutherischen Kirche in Polen in den Bereichen: individuelle Frömmigkeit, Kirchenverwaltung, Teilnahme an seelsorgerischen und liturgischen Aktivitäten.
Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie sposobów realizacji powszechnego kapłaństwa w Kościele luterańskim w Polsce. Opracowanie w pierwszej części prezentuje podstawy zaangażowania osób nieordynowanych w Kościele Ewangelicko-Augsburskim (Luterańskim) w Polsce w postaci reformacyjnej koncepcji powszechnego kapłaństwa wszystkich wierzących/wszystkich ochrzczonych. W drugiej części omawia zaś praktyczne zaangażowanie osób nieordynowanych w praktyce Kościoła Ewangelicko-Augsburskiego w Polsce w obszarach: indywidualnej pobożności, zarządzania Kościołem, udziału w aktywnościach duszpasterskich i liturgicznych.
The purpose of this study is to present the ways in which the universal priesthood is realised in the Lutheran Church in Poland. The first part presents the basics of the involvement of unordained people in the Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession (Lutheran) in Poland in form of the reformational concept of the universal priesthood of all believers / all baptized. The second part discusses the practical involvement of people who are not ordained in the practice of the Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession in Poland in the areas of: individual piety, church management, participation in pastoral and liturgical activities.

W Archiwum Głównym Akt Dawnych znajdują się dokumenty dotyczące działalności Kolegium Kościelnego gminy ewangelicko-augsburskiej w Warszawie. Wśród nich ostatnio odnaleziono nieznane źródła, których edycja stanowi przedmiot niniejszej publikacji. Zawierają one informacje na temat zamówienia przez gminę u Chrystiana Piotra Aignera projektu kaplicy pogrzebowej na cmentarzu luterańskim w Warszawie. Dokumenty te stanowią dwa listy skierowane do Aignera, oraz kosztorys. Z dokumentów wiadomo, że do kosztorysu dołączony był pierwotnie także projekt kaplicy, który obecnie zaginął. Zamieszczone w dokumentach informacje stanowią istotny wkład w pełniejsze rozpoznanie dorobku polskiego architekta. 
The Central Archives of Historical Records contains documents relating to the activities of the Church College of the Lutheran Community in Warsaw. Among them, unknown sources have recently been found whose editing is the subject of this publication. They contain information on the commune's commissioning of a design for a funeral chapel from Ch.P. Aigner. The documents are two letters addressed to him, and a cost estimate. It is known from the documents that the cost estimate was also originally attached to the design of the chapel, but has now been lost. The information contained in the documents is an important contribution to a more complete recognition of the architect's work.

W kościołach chrześcijańskich, żaden element wyposażenia wnętrza nie jest przypadkowy. Kolory ścian czy lamperii oprócz tego że w sposób bezpośredni cieszą oczy wiernych, także wpływają na nich w sposób mniej oczywisty. Artykuł ma na celu zobrazowanie wyglądu wnętrza oraz symboliki kościoła ewangelicko-augsburskiego (luterańskiego) z Bytomia-Bobrka, przeniesionego w roku 2017 do Muzeum „Górnośląski Park Etnograficzny w Chorzowie”. Pokazanie, jak można odczytywać i interpretować jego wnętrze – nie tylko zastosowaną kolorystykę, ale także układ wyposażenia liturgicznego, jego kolor, czy też kształt. Tekst ma także za zadanie zasygnalizować, wskazać problem, wymykający się często badaczom różnych dyscyplin. A mianowicie: jak miejsce, przestrzeń sakralną odbierają ci, dla których jest ona przeznaczona i jak odbiór ten zmienia się po latach.
In Christian churches no element of interior fittings and furnishings is accidental. The colours of the walls or dados, in addition to the fact that they please the eyes of the faithful, also affect them in a less obvious way. The article aims to illustrate the interior decor and symbolism of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession originally located in the Bobrek District of Bytom, which was reconstructed in the Museum “Upper Silesian Ethnographic Park in Chorzów” in 2017. The paper shows how one can read and interpret the interior of the church – not only the colour scheme used, but also the arrangement of the liturgical furnishings and fittings, its colour and shape. Furthermore, the text also attempts to signal, point out the problem, often eluding researchers of various disciplines. Namely, how the place, the sacred space is experienced by those to whom it is dedicated and how this reception changes in the time.

The article presents Lutheran engagement for migrants, using the examples of activities undertaken by the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland, as well as by the Lutheran World Federation, which is the biggest global organisation of Lutheran Churches all over the world. In case of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession the text provides an overview of the initiatives undertaken since 2015 in service to the migrants on the parish and Church levels, as well as in cooperation with ecumenical partners (including the activities within the Polish Ecumenical Council and in cooperation with the Catholic Church). In case of the Lutheran World Federation, the first step was to present the theological justification for the Federation’s engagement in the work for migrants, and the next one — to outline the characteristics of the work of the Department for World Service (Federation’s humanitarian agency) in 2018.
L’articolo presenta l’impegno luterano nei confronti dei migranti sull’esempio delle attività intraprese dalla Chiesa evangelico-augusta in Polonia, nonché dalla Federazione luterana mondiale, ovvero la più grande organizzazione mondiale di Chiese luterane nel mondo. Relativamente alla Chiesa evangelica di Augusta, nel presente testo si passa in rassegna le iniziative intraprese dal 2015 per servire i migranti a livello parrocchiale e ecclesiale, nonché in collaborazione con i partner ecumenici (anche all’interno del Consiglio ecumenico polacco e in cooperazione con la Chiesa cattolica). Nel caso della Federazione Luterana Mondiale, in una prima fase del discorso, è stata presentata la giustificazione teologica del coinvolgimento della Federazione nel lavoro a favore dei migranti, e nella successiva, si è delineato il lavoro del Dipartimento dei servizi mondiali (agenda umanitaria della Federazione) nel 2018.
L’article présente l’engagement luthérien en faveur des migrants sur l’exemple des activités entreprises par l’Église évangélique d’Augsbourg en Pologne, ainsi que la Fédération luthérienne mondiale, c’est-à-dire la plus grande organisation mondiale d’Églises luthériennes dans le monde. Dans le cas de l’Église évangélique d’Augsbourg, le texte passe en revue les initiatives entreprises depuis 2015 pour aider les migrants au niveau paroissial et ecclésial, ainsi qu’en coopération avec des partenaires oecuméniques (y compris au sein du Conseil oecuménique polonais et de la coopération avec l’Église catholique). En ce qui concerne la Fédération luthérienne mondiale, dans un premier temps, le ette a présenté la justification théologique de l’engagement de la Fédération dans le travail en faveur des migrants, et dans un second temps, on a décrit le travail du Département des services mondiaux (agenda humanitaire de la Fédération) en 2018.

The Parish is a basic administrative unit of the Catholic Church and the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland. The research aims to formulate – building on the analysis of the fundamental laws of the Churches in question – a common list of the rights and duties of the parish. One can even say that there is “one Christian parish” which can be seen from a catholic and evangelical perspective.
Parafia jest podstawową jednostką administracyjną Kościoła katolickiego i Kościoła Ewangelicko-Augsburskiego w Polsce. Celem artykułu jest sformułowanie w oparciu o analizę podstawowych praw danych Kościołów – wspólnej listy praw i obowiązków parafii. Wniosek z rozważań brzmi następująco: istnieje „jedna parafia chrześcijańska”, którą można postrzegać w perspektywie katolickiej i ewangelickiej.

There is a phenomenon of law in the Christian Churches. The paper describes and compares functions of law, that is, social effects of legal norms from endogenic laws of the two of them: in the Catholic Church and the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland. It presents functions, such as: creative and organization function, protective and defending function for the personal rights, function of sharing material burdens and distributing the goods, function of regulation of solving conflicts, repressive function, informative and teaching function, educational function, protective and defending function for the matter of faith, salvation function. The conclusion is that functions of law in both Churches are: elaborated and complicated, mixed in their character and can be divided into the typical functions for the Church as a regular society and as a spiritual one, congruent only to some extent.
W Kościołach chrześcijańskich istnieje zjawisko prawa. Artykuł określa i porównuje funkcje prawa, czyli wywołane przez prawo skutki społeczne zawarte w endogenicznym prawie dwóch Kościołów: Kościoła rzymskokatolickiego i Kościoła Ewangelicko-Augsburskiego w Rzeczpospolitej Polskiej. Te funkcje to: funkcja kreująco-organizacyjna, funkcja ochronno-obronna względem praw osobowych, funkcja podziału materialnych ciężarów i rozkładu dóbr, funkcja regulacji rozwiązywania konfliktów, funkcja represyjna, funkcja informacyjno-nauczająca, funkcja wychowawcza, funkcja ochronno-obronna względem treści wiary, funkcja zbawcza. Wniosek z tych rozważań jest następujący: funkcje prawa w tych dwóch Kościołach są rozbudowane i skomplikowane; funkcje te mają mieszany charakter i mogą być podzielone na funkcje charakterystyczne dla Kościoła jako społeczności ziemskiej i jako społeczności duchowej; funkcje pomiędzy Kościołami są zbieżne ze sobą tylko do pewnego stopnia.

In present times, there are many threats to the marriage and the family. Among other things the risks come from provisions of law that is drafted without regard for Christian roots of the European civilization. In the face of the situation, the Christian Communities are called to start an ecumenical dialog and to undertake a practical action to promote their common Christian paradigm of the marriage and the family that would be a pattern for a state legislator. It is possible in Poland, because the teaching of the Catholic Church and the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland about the marriage and the family have in terms of content much in common. Additionally, there are many legal possibilities, like, e.g., legislative initiative, to undertake such a promotion of Christian paradigm.
