Johann Schwarzer (1880-1914) założył w Wiedniu pierwszą austriacką wytwórnię filmową, Saturn-Film, w której w latach 1906-1910 powstawały wyłącznie filmy erotyczne, dzisiaj uznane za pierwsze filmy fabularne zrealizowane w Austrii przez Austriaków. Dzięki intensywnym międzynarodowym poszukiwaniom pracownikom Österreichische Filmarchiv udało się odnaleźć w sumie ponad 30 produkcji z tej wytwórni, przez lata uznawanych za zaginione. W tekście została naszkicowana krótka historia Saturna i charakterystyka wybranych filmów Schwarzera. Autorka wskazała też na problemy z zaakceptowaniem przez niektórych austriackich badaczy erotycznych początków rodzimej kinematografii, czego skutkiem było zniekształcanie historycznej rekonstrukcji filmografii austriackiej.
Johann Schwarzer (1880-1914) founded in Vienna the first Austrian film company, Saturn-Film, which in 1906-1910 produced only erotic films, today considered the first feature films made in Austria by Austrians. Thanks to an intense international search, the employees of Österreichische Filmarchiv managed to find a total of over 30 films from this studio, which for years had been considered lost. The text outlines a short history of Saturn and the characteristics of selected films by Schwarzer. The author of the article also points out the reluctance of, inter alia, some Austrian film historians, in accepting the erotic origins of their native cinematography, which resulted in a distortion of the historical reconstruction of Austrian filmography.

The aim of the article is to present the results of qualitative research into the ways women and men show love in heterosexual relationships and to indicate gender similarities and differences in this area. The analysis is based on references to traditional and modern models of femininity and masculinity. The respondents’ opinions were divided into two main areas – widely defined communication (gestures of tenderness, emotional support, behavior during misunderstandings) and specific activities (helping perform household duties or other activities for the partner, buying gifts, organizing free time, initiating sex). The analysis of the empirical material showed the interpenetration of patriarchal and modern models of femininity and masculinity in how women and men behave lovingly towards their partners. Both men and women draw inspiration from the repertoire of behaviors, as well as from traditional masculinity and femininity, evolving towards a modern model of femininity and masculinity that becomes more androgynous. In this way, they definitely expand the ways they show love, combining the more emotional, feminine ways with the more active, more traditionally “masculine” ones.
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wyników badań jakościowych dotyczących sposobów okazywania miłości w heteroseksualnych związkach przez kobiety i mężczyzn oraz wskazanie podobieństw i różnic, jakie występują między płciami. Analiza odnosi się do tradycyjnego i nowoczesnego modelu kobiecości i męskości. Wypowiedzi respondentów zostały podzielone na dwa główne obszary – szeroko definiowaną komunikację (gesty czułości, wsparcie emocjonalne, zachowania podczas nieporozumień) oraz podejmowanie określonych działań (pomaganie w wykonywaniu obowiązków domowych lub innych aktywności na rzecz partnera, kupowanie prezentów, organizowanie czasu wolnego, inicjowanie seksu). Analiza materiału empirycznego pokazała przenikanie się modeli patriarchalnych i nowoczesnych kobiecości i męskości w sposobach zachowań miłosnych kobiet i mężczyzn wobec swoich partnerów. I mężczyźni, i kobiety czerpią inspiracje z repertuaru zachowań zarówno z tradycyjnej męskości, jak i z tradycyjnej kobiecości, ewoluując w kierunku nowoczesnego modelu kobiecości i męskości, które stają się bardziej androgeniczne. Tym samym zdecydowanie poszerzają zakres sposobów okazywania miłości, łącząc te bardziej emocjonalne, sfeminizowane z tymi aktywnymi, tradycyjnie „męskimi”.

W artykule podjęto problem językowych eksponentów dawnego (XVI–XVII wiek) polskiego dyskursu erotycznego. Materiał badawczy stanowiły wybrane teksty reprezentujące styl niski jako bliski odmianie potocznej języka. Wskazano dwie główne tendencje dyskursotwórcze: obrazowość i aluzyjność. Analizy ilustrują uniwersalność zabiegów językowych, ich panchroniczny charakter, funkcje ludyczną i eufemizującą. Potwierdzony został także związek badanego dyskursu z potoczną odmianą polszczyzny, a także ze stereotypami językowo-kulturowymi.
The work concerns the problem of language determinants of old-time epochs (16th–17th centuries) erotic discourse. The research material constitutes chosen texts representing rhetorical low style as close to colloquial variant of language. One pointed two main discourse tendencies: picturesqueness and allusiveness. Analysis illustrates the universality of language measures, their panchronic character, ludic and euphemistic functions. Furthermore the connections of examined discourse with colloquial variant of Polish and with the lingual and cultural stereotypes were confirmed.

Novels with the intention to create a comprehensive and recapitulative “chronicle” picture of Czech society in contemporary history present one of the productive thematic tendencies in Czech fiction. Their plots are usually based on confrontations between political events and private stories. In dramatic clashes between “big” and “small” histories, sex and eroticism come to play an important role. They are also essential elements in the novel Most přes řeku zapomnění (The Bridge over the River of Oblivion) (2015) by Jaroslav Čejka. The story tracks the life of the protagonist (and that of his brother) over the course of several decades and shows how numerous love affairs and erotic escapades frame his political career. The present analytical essay focuses on the erotic motifs as realisation of the erotic mode in Čejka’s fictional picture of the “normalization” period during the communist era.

The goal of this paper is to present the results of qualitative research on the methods of metaphorising erotic love by heterosexual women and men. The analyses refer to two phases of a romantic relationship, i.e., falling in love and being in a relationship. The research is based on the cognitive theories of metaphor by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson. The analysis of orientational metaphors showed that love is experienced as disorientation and relationship as a hierarchical system. Ontological metaphors describe love as elements, chemical processes, objects and alive beings. Structural metaphors refer to consumption (love as a gift, a valuable resource, capital), work (love as a building, project, a learning process, therapeutic work), entertainment (love as a game, a journey, a mystery), conflict (love as war, diplomacy, internal conflict) and disease. The analysis of the empirical works points out to the differences in the way love is metaphorised in its phases and in the experiences of the participants in a relationship. The present study reveals that women have a wider vocabulary for metaphorising love than men, and the gender differences are rooted in individual contexts.
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wyników eksploracyjnych badań jakościowych dotyczących sposobów metaforyzowania miłości erotycznej przez heteroseksualne kobiety i mężczyzn. Analizy odnoszą się do dwóch faz relacji miłosnej – zakochania oraz bycia w związku. Badania bazują na kognitywnej teorii metafory George’a Lakoffa i Marka Johnsona. Analiza metafor orientacyjnych pokazała, że zakochanie doświadczane jest jako dezorientacja, natomiast związek jako układ hierarchiczny. Metafory ontologiczne pozwoliły opisać miłość jako żywioły, procesy chemiczne, przedmioty oraz żywe istoty. Metafory strukturalne nawiązywały do konsumpcji (miłość jako dar, cenny zasób, kapitał), pracy (miłość jako budowa, projekt, nauka, praca terapeutyczna), rozrywki (miłość jako gra, podróż, zagadka), konfliktu (miłość jako wojna, dyplomacja, walka wewnętrzna) oraz choroby. Analiza materiału empirycznego pokazała różnice w sposobie metaforyzowania miłości dotyczące zarówno jej faz, jak i doświadczeń uczestników wynikających z etapu bycia w związku. Okazało się, że kobiety metaforyzują miłość w sposób bardziej złożony niż mężczyźni. Różnice między płciami dotyczą również poszczególnych kontekstów.

Background: Sexual activity is extremely important and is also of strategic importance for a woman’s health. Aim of the study: The assessment of women’s sexual preferences in early and middle adulthood. Material and methods: The study sample consisted of 100 women in early adulthood (aged 20–30 years) who were students of the University of Rzeszow in the field of Midwifery. A second group of 200 middle-aged women (aged 45–55 years) who were working and undergoing treatment at Clinical Provincial Hospital No. 2 of St. Jadwiga Queen in Rzeszow, students of the University of the Third Age in Rzeszow, as well as women from the Post-graduate Education Centre of Nurses and Midwives in Rzeszow. The research was carried out in 2016 by means of a diagnostic survey using our own questionnaire. Results: As compared to the middle adulthood group, the women in the early adulthood group more frequently used items that diversify sex life, i.e. lubricants, massage oils, condoms, erotic lingerie, and handcuffs (p <0.001). In addition, women in the early adulthood group felt more sexually attractive than the middle adulthood group (p<0.001) and also preferred sexual modes of behaviour (e.g., clitoral stimulation, breasts stimulation, vaginal stimulation and oral stimulation) more frequently than middle adult women. Conclusions: Women in middle adulthood feel less sexually attractive than women in early adulthood. Women in middle adulthood could introduce factors that improve the quality of sexual intercourse during perimeno-pausal age, such as: lubricants, massage oils, stimulating condoms, and erotic lingerie.

The exploration of human sexuality at the end of the nineteenth century did not immediately stimulate the development of research in literary eroticism. Its development is associated not so much with the discoveries made by anthropologists as with the influence of the Nietzsche’s philosophy and Freud’s psychoanalysis. The theory of Dionysian culture with its concept of libido (which in times of the supremacy of high culture remains hidden in the language of literature) contributed to the first wave of erotic criticism. Decades later, its development was related to feminist criticism, followed by gender studies and homoerotic studies. What seems interesting in this context is the lack of reflection on the role of the audiovisual pornographic imagination in most contemporary literature. While porn studies is present in sociology, anthropology, and film studies, it is still absent from literary studies. The article presents the mutual influence of literature and pornographic cinema, showing the limitation of the traditional tools used in literary studies in the analysis of contemporary literary descriptions of sexual acts. It examines the reason for the lack of research on this topic, paying attention to the ethical and aesthetic consequences of changing this situation. Finally, it outlines the areas of interest that porn studies could help explore.

The author discussed a few sexualisms – names of sexual body parts. He excerpted lexical material from Polish historical studies from the 19th century and the beginning the 20th century. In the article the author presented the provenance of some expressivisms. He analysed less familiar and forgotten names of breast (bust), vulva (vagina) and male member (penis): i.e.: jabłuszka (‘apples’), bufory (‘buffers’), fujara (‘ninny’), flet (‘flute’), węgorz (‘eel’), mona (from Italian), bilkałe (from Yiddish). Mostly studied words is neo-semantism, less often – borrowings. The author put the analyzed words in the context of linguistic and cultural taboos (he mentioned euphemization and vulgarization). The text is inviting to join a discussion; some observations of the author are provoking to debate. The author presented the etymology of this vocabulary, but he also hypothesized the origin of several lexemes.

The author begins by addressing theories in which love is either the key bond in intimate interpersonal relations (Giddens, Beck, Illouz) or is a set of everyday practices aimed at generating and maintaining a close relationship (Kauffman) and in which love can be understood through certain signs and symbols and other structures of meaning (Danesi). The author’s analysis conforms to the concepts of the sociology of everyday life, the sociology of the couple, and the theory of social practices, according to which an intimate relationship is built on the basis of a couple’s daily activities, which “produce” that relationship through their repetition. The author analyzes ways of showing love to one another in everyday practices and attempts to embed these gestures and symbols in cultural conditions. The author’s reflections are based on a qualitative analysis of empirical research.

This article presents an analysis of methods used by Andrzej Ziemiański in his novel Achaja to create a female character. The main character of the novel is the eponymous Achaja, a princess of the fictional kingdom called Troy. Although she is presented as a strong heroin dealing with all sorts of adversities, in fact she can’t make decisions for herself. The article presents three stereotypical figures of femininity reflected in the main character at various stages of the novel: a damsel in distress, a sexual slave and a femme fatale. The analysis shows that the protagonist is defined by her sexual attractiveness and that she is created as an erotic object. 
W artykule przedstawiona została analiza sposobów kreacji kobiecości w powieści Achaja Andrzeja Ziemiańskiego. Główną bohaterką utworu jest tytułowa Achaja, księżniczka fikcyjnego królestwa Troy, zdegradowana w wyniku intryg macochy i zmuszona do życia w warunkach, do jakich nie była nigdy przygotowywana. Mimo że Achaja kreowana jest na silną bohaterkę, radzącą sobie ze wszelkimi przeciwnościami, można zauważyć, iż w gruncie rzeczy zostaje pozbawiona możliwości decydowania o sobie. Artykuł przedstawia trzy stereotypowe figury kobiecości, które w kolejnych etapach rozwoju fabularnych zdarzeń realizuje protagonistka powieści: niewinności uciśnionej, seksualnej niewolnicy oraz femme fatale. Analiza ukazuje, że bohaterkę określa przede wszystkim jej atrakcyjność seksualna i protagonistka jest kreowana jako obiekt erotyczny.

Is there such an entity as Polish LGBT language and slang? Undoubtedly there is, but various myths and misconceptions have arisen in relation to this topic. The Polish LGBT lexical corpus is certainly not negligible, though many of the words and expressions either fell out of use or they existed and exist only in theory, as is the case of many jargons shared by specific communities also in other languages. Moreover, many words and expressions functioning now within the Polish 'family' derive from English, as is also the case of some other contemporary languages. Some of these expressions have acquired Polish equivalents – either via translation or by being adapted to the Polish paradigmatic and syntagmatic structures. It should be noted that new words and expressions rarely happen to be the result of 'politically (ideologically) correct' decisions or demands. There is also a widespread, if unfounded, myth that Polish LGBT vocabulary, and generally the lexis relating to sex and eroticism, is rather limited, and that it is either vulgar or medical. This myth is propagated, among others, by some literary translators, but this felt lack is due to idiosyncratic lacunae in their lexical and cultural awareness rather than objective linguistic deprivation.

Opis:
Tematem tekstu są ekslibrisy Brunona Schulza, które autor Sklepów cynamonowych wykonywał dla znajomych. Są to przede wszystkim wyobrażenia związane z erotyką. Bardzo często o dość „mrocznej proweniencji”, gdyż nawiązują do masochistycznych wątków jego twórczości, demonicznych kobiet i ich nieokiełznanej siły zmysłowej. Na marginesie wskazane zostają też inne drobiazgi wizualne: szkice, projekty, cegiełki, zaproszenia, tzw. druki ulotne. Stają się one ważne o tyle, o ile pozwalają wyjaśnić genezę ekslibrisów pisarza. Celem artykułu jest wykazanie, że biblioteki i przestrzeń wirtualna, jak pokazał czas, to miejsca, obszary współczesnej aktywności archiwistycznej, twórczej i odbiorczej, które pozwalają te wszystkie materiały skatalogować, utrwalić, zachować, a więc powołać do życia raz jeszcze… dla przyszłych pokoleń.
The present article discusses the book plates designed by Bruno Schulz which the author of Sklepy cynamonowe [The Street of Crocodiles] created for his friends and acquaintances throughout his life. The book plates mainly feature erotic images that relate to specifically created topics and, quite frequently, are of somewhat murky and morally questionable provenance, since they clearly relate to masochistic threads, demonic women and their unbridled sensual indulgence. On a side note, the article also discusses other minor visual elements such as sketches, designs, blueprints, donation certificates, invitations, i.e. the so-called ephemera. These available snippets of ephemera become even more important as they allow us to explain the origins of the book plates under investigation. The underlying goal of the article, however, is to show that libraries and virtual space in general are, as it has been proved in time again and again, exactly the right place and areas of modern archival practice that allow us to catalogue, process and preserve these materials, thus make them ready for revival for future generations.

The main concept of Anna Augustyniak’s poetic volume (Bez ciebie, Warsaw 2014) is based on poetics and semantics of a number of categories: deficiency, body, affection, journey. They make an entanglement, which shows the metamorphosis of feminine lyrical subject, at first being mentally, emotionally and sensually disconnected (excluded by itself) from the environment though love, later again connected with world through the journey in geographically-cultural and spiritual dimension. In this case, the strong affection (falling in it and out of it after the parting) can be treated analogously. Construction and titles of several poems included in volume create an enumerative series describing the condition of subject (condition “without”), both as addiction and as deliverance, inclusion and exclusion. “Traveling erotics” – as Alicja Jakubowska-Oż.g named these poems – are also an individual realisation of a convention of literary genetics. A poem appears as a body of inclusion, which encloses a story of love.

The subject of Krasiński’s Non-prayer Prayer Poems is a number of his works which although fit the structural characteristics of the genre, are not in fact prayers. There are some other reasons for using this literary forms.. For instance, Daj jej o Panie… (Give Her Oh Lord...) is an instruction for the beloved one on how to behave in difficult life situations, and on the other hand a treatise on philosophy and religion. Another example is Boże, wysłuchaj modlitwę moją serdeczną… (God, Hear my Cordial Prayer…) which is a classic erotic poem addressed to Joanna Bobrowa. O Boże, błogosław tym… (Dear God bless those…) is yet another example of this phenomenon since it is a courtesy gesture towards the Ankwicz family and at the same time a personal and unlikely fantasy about the end of the world. The article reveals both Krasiński’s genealogical awareness of the prayer poem form as well as his religious attitude.
Przedmiotem pracy Niemodlitewne modlitwy Krasińskiego jest grupa utworów poety które, mimo że spełniają cechy strukturalne tego gatunku, w rzeczywistości modlitwami nie są. Mamy tu bowiem do czynienia z użyciem tej formy literackiej do innych celów. I tak np. Daj jej o Panie… to z jednej strony swoisty instruktarz dla ukochanej, jak postępować w trudnych biograficznie sytuacjach, a z drugiej strony traktat filozoficzno-religijny. Boże, wysłuchaj modlitwę moją serdeczną… to z kolei klasyczny erotyk kierowany do Joanny Bobrowej. O Boże, błogosław tym… to natomiast swego rodzaju gest kurtuazyjnej wdzięczności wobec rodziny Ankwiczów, połączony z osobistą i dość oryginalną fantazją o końcu świata. Artykuł ten ujawnia zarówno świadomość genologiczną Krasińskiego w zakresie modlitwy poetyckiej, jak też jego postawę religijną.
