Opis:
Deealt with in the present report is the action of Epidian 5 hairdened with triethylenetetramine being a basic eompomnd. A sieries of tests have been undertaken aimed at establishing which pigments in the painted layers of paiintings are changing as a consequence of amine action. A number of samples consisting of canvas strips covered wiith paints containing different binders and pigments weere prepared for tests. As the next step the surfaces of' samples were covered with three kinds of substances, naimely (1) pure triethylenetetramine, (2) 20 per cent sollution of Epidian 6 in toluene with 12 per cent additiam of amine, and (3) 20 per cent solution of Epidian 5 wiith no amine addition. The apparent changes were observed in pigments as, e.g. red paint, Prussian blue, the green copper dye and those of yellow paint group who darkened. Most strongly reacted with amine the pigments containing the glue binder and those in which tempera was present. It has been found as a result of the tests carried out that the intensity of changes in colour is depending upor the nature of barrier formed by the binder film. It follows from the above that the application of epoxide resin hardened with triethylenetetramine is in each individual case to be preceded by a suitable testing of pigments. Pigments can be tested immediately within a selected small area of a painted layer.

Opis:
The reprocessing of polymeric waste materials is an important issue from an environmental point of view. This paper presents the synthesis and characterization of epoxy resin based composites with the application of waste powder from toner (laser printer) as a filler (10 wt.%). The use of waste filler is part of a sustainable economy. For the synthesis of composites, epoxy resin (Epidian® 5) and three amines (ethylenediamine, triethylenetetramine and aniline) were applied. The presence of the amines compounds in the samples was confirmed by the ATR/FT-IR spectra on which were noted the stretching vibrations band the C-N groups around 1037 cm-1. Materials were analyzed by the TG/DTG and DSC analysis, which showed the influence of kind the crosslinking agent and the presence of filler on their thermal properties. The glass transition (Tg) of materials occurs in the temperature range from 39.8 to 64.2°C. The highest values were achieved for the triethylenetetramine (TETA), which indicates the highest cross-linking of this composite. It has been shown that materials about satisfactory can be obtained, using cheap and waste substances by simple synthesis which does not require expensive polymerization initiators.

The present report deals with the properties of solutions of the epoxy resins when they ace used to reinforcement of the damaged historical objects. Besides the advantageous qualities such as low viscosity and chemical and biological resistance, they have also negative features, especially orispness, which has essential meaning in case of reinforcement of a very damaged wooden surface. Before they are used epoxy resins must undergo the process of making elastic. It consists of the so-called internal and external plasticization. In the first case we add to the resin chemical compounds capable of reacting with it, like: polysulphides, polyesters, acid anhydrides. In the latter case, however, we add substances not reacting with it, e.g. dibutyl phthalate, which is one of the constituents of the composition called in Poland Epidian 5. Epidian 5, modified by dibutyl phthalate, underwent narrow tests in view of being used in restoration works consisting of the reinforcement of wood. It has been found, as the result of the research, that dibutyl phthalate does not cause any visible destructive changes in hardened resin films but gives it elasticity and, what is more, does not make the wood swell. Optimum proportion is 20 per cent of dibutyl phthalate and 80 per cent of resin. With Epidian 5 a great number of historical wooden carvings has been preserved.
