Proper environmental project management is a significant element in shaping a positive, pro-environmental image of urban agglomerations and adjacent towns. Environmental resource management and protection, as well as spatial planning in accordance with sustainable development principles, are the most important factors in creating a positive image of, and strategies for, cities. An example of a large, innovative environmental project implementation is the Central Sewage Treatment Plant in Kozieglowy, in the agglomeration of Poznan, and its installations and equipment impact assessment studies. Important aspects of the project were mediations, which took place from May 2011, until the end of April 2012.

In the paper, the author attempts to point out the meaning of procedures for the environmental management system (EMS). Particular attention is paid to form and content as well as to the functions, proprieties and structure of the procedures. The analyses were carried out taking into account a systemic approach of the essential topics to the ISO 14001 standard. Based on the chosen procedure, some fundamental methods of elaborating upon and implementing the EMS procedures were outlined. It was also presented that procedures written in accordance with these rules might provide vital support to the improvement of the organization’s management systems and might optimize the processes in the areas they cover.

Opis:
Organizations use standards to help them manage their activities to comply with regulations and help prevent, mitigate, and control adverse environmental impacts. ISO 14001 is an international standard for environmental management that provides a framework for addressing these responsibilities. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the organization’s primary motivation for the adoption of ISO 14001 and the value creators perceived through the implementation of the Environmental Management and Business Management Standard. The study used the data from the International Organization for Standardization 2013 ISO 14001 Continuous Improvement Survey and the survey results of the participants. It used an existing theoretical model and attempts to improve understanding of how contextual factors influence the outcomes of the ISO 14001 system. The descriptive results are consistent with the statements in the literature that external pressure and stakeholder legitimacy are the main causes for the introduction of ISO 14001.
Organizacje wykorzystują normy w celu pomocy w zarządzaniu ich działaniami, tak aby stosować się do regulacji i pomóc zapobiegać, łagodzić skutki i kontrolować niekorzystne wpływy środowiska. 14001 jest normą międzynarodową nt. zarządzania środowiskiem, która zawiera narzędzia do wypełnienia tych celów. Zadaniem niniejszej pracy było zbadanie zależności między podstawową motywacją danej organizacji do przyjęcia ISO 14001 a postrzeganą wartością, związaną z wprowadzeniem Zarządzania Środowiskowego i Standardem Zarządzania Biznesowego. W pracy wykorzystane dane Międzynarodowej Organizacji Normalizacyjnej: „2013 ISO 14001 Continuous Improvement Survey” i wyników badań uczestników. Wykorzystano istniejący, teoretyczny model i próby zrozumienia, jak czynniki kontekstowe wpływają na wyniki wg ISO 14001. Wyniki opisowe są zgodne z danymi literaturowymi, że głównie presja zewnętrzna i interesariusze wpływają na wprowadzenie ISO 14001.

The article considers international trends and directions of inclusive growth which is considered as an inclusive economic growth and is measured by heterogeneous growth indicators, as an index of inclusive development. Considering the above, was analysed the existing state of the country's growth considering the environmental, economic, social and technological components as prerequisites for inclusive environmental management. Thus, the main focus of this article is on the formation of prerequisites for inclusive nature management in socio-economic and environmental practices and their subsequent methodological support. So segments of population prosperity means not just material consumption, but social vision formation and the institutional support creation for enables everyone to participate in the socio-economic achievements. The main gaps in the institutional support of the inclusive environmental management process are disclosed: in the social sphere: limited access to economically viable means that meet the real needs of the population in terms of health care, social assistance, basic education and awareness; in the ecological and economic sphere there is no effective and efficient management of providing the population with products that comply with the requirements of eco-certification and eco-labelling, which negatively affects the replenishment of the state budget and the promotion of the rational use of natural resources. Therefore, in order to create a favourable climate and institutional support of inclusive environmental management, in this article, will conduct a thorough analysis of the status of its components and assess the compliance of the existing conditions with current international requirements for inclusiveness. Inclusive growth requires environmental inclusion, which can be achieved through the introduction of new metrics and resource value indicators in regional development projects and programs. In doing so, measures should be developed and recommendations made to improve further planning and control.

In order to reduce the influence of wastewater from enterprises on the environment extreme relevance is gained by improvement of the monitoring system at each stage of technological process. A new tool is calculation of the polluting substances concentration is suggested to be entered into the monitoring system on the basis of determination of material balance of technological process of production that will allow prediction of qualitative and quantitative composition of sewage for the selected period. The system can be used in any enterprise, but the example with all calculations is given for the Mykolaiv Branch of "SUN InBev Ukraine" which became the object of research. The scope of the study covered the process of wastewater formation of the enterprise. Realization of tasks demanded the use of general scientific methods: analysis, synthesis, systematization and generalization in the course of studying of the corresponding literature on the research subject; modelling, formalization, comparison - at drawing up the calculation scheme of concentration of the polluting substances in sewage; supervision - during studying the technological scheme of production; and also methods of mathematical data processing in MS Excel.

The beginning of the period where the impact of human activity took dangerous size is considered to be 40 years of the nineteenth century. Then the large-scale production of electricity increased production of metallurgical industry and transport development. Significant changes contributed to rapid population growth and urbanization and industrialization processes. Man by intensive exploitation reduces or completely exhausted most natural resources. This has resulted in the availability criterion, which is distinguished by inexhaustible and exhaustible resources. Exhaustible resources may include solar, wind, energy, ocean currents and the energy of the Earth. Exhaustible resources, however, are the elements of nature that as a result of the operation can be completely depleted or destroyed. These resources include: water, soil, plant world, animal world natural resources. The greater the intensity of acquiring human resources, the faster will be the depleted. There is also a very important division of exhaustible resources: non-renewable resources, renewable and very difficult reproducible (living areas). Non-renewable resources are mainly minerals, such as iron ore, crude oil, coal, sulfur, natural gas, useful stones, limestone, salt, and many other minerals). After extraction resources are processed, and the bed from which they were extracted can no longer be used. It is different from renewable resources; they are characterized by the fact that over time they are reconstituted, although, for this to happen balance of the environment through the rational use must be maintained. These resources include, among others, soil, water, flora and fauna, as well as atmospheric air.

The European Union International Organization for Standardization management system for the environment (ISO 14001) is established by European Commission Regulation 1221/2009. This legislates a voluntary system where organizations can register in a community eco-management and audit scheme. In the literature, this standard is recognized as an instrument of international environmental protection law, introduced by soft law regulations. ISO 14001 has been implemented by many global and European organizations, and it strives to improve the quality of their environmental resources. It was considered that the ISO 14001 eco-management and audit scheme enforced protection of environment in EU countries by imposing the obligation to implement appropriate legal regulations in this area. This article aims is determine what legal solutions in chosen UE countries enable the effective implementation of ISO 14001 and what positive effects it has on the state of the environment in these countries. The results demonstrated that the number of certified organizations is increasing despite the many difficulties and costs of implementing and organizing required environmental protection areas. The implementation of ISO 14001 was described using the example of Poland and Italy compared to other EU countries. The uptake identifies improved environmental quality, and this is confirmed by indicators of decreasing gas emissions and increasing waste recycling which improve global air, soil and water quality. The higher implementation index of the ISO 14001 standard in Italy translates into higher environmental quality indicators in this country than in Poland.

To secure cargoes, containerships operate double or triple calling of ports in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region in China. Such shipping operations generate high CO2 emissions. This paper suggest a green shipping network (GSN) as a useful tool to transship containers from feeder ports to hub ports to lower the overall CO2 emissions in the region. From the perspective of scale operations from using the hub-and-spoke approach and the deployment of mega ships, developing a GSN within the PRD region can be beneficial, both economically and environmentally, to port users in the container transport chain.

Attempting to meet market stakeholders' changing expectations and requirements significantly affects the overexploitation of natural resources and the degradation of the natural environment, often leading to irreversible consequences. The publication aims to analyse selected changes in the natural surroundings that influence the implementation decisions of the environmental management system. Seaports and cities are internally linked, and the port can have a strong influence on the city, especially in the environmental aspect. Port authorities around the world are striving for greener forms of port management to adapt to state policy and to increase their economic and environmental competitiveness. The introduction of the concept of sustainable development in the port can stimulate the creation of green cities. This paper uses a case study to analyze the sustainable development in the Twin Port of Bremen. The aim is to distinguish the green port’s impacts that can stimulate the development of the green city concept. It is shown that the port development stimulates GDP growth, increases employment, urban infrastructure development, and the overall enrichment of port cities. Using the presented analysis of the green port, the most important affecting factors are proposed.

Popularyzacja normalizacji w zarządzaniu spowodowała zainteresowanie organizacji systemami zarządzania jakością (ISO 9001), zarządzania środowiskowego (ISO 14001) ora zarządzania bhp (PN-N 18001). Praktyka stosowania systemów wskazuje na wiele problemów, z jakimi borykają się organizacje. Już sam Juran [1974] wyrażał swoje obawy, że zorientowane na certyfikację przedsiębiorstwa będą za bardzo koncentrowały swoją uwagę na zdobyciu formalnego potwierdzenia funkcjonowania systemu zarządzania jakością, zamiast doskonalić swoje procesy. W pracy zaprezentowano wyniki badań własnych opartych na studiach przypadków (casy studies) w pięciu przedsiębiorstwach posiadających zintegrowany system zarządzania jakością, zarządzania środowiskowego i zarządzania bhp. Celem badań było zidentyfikowanie mocnych i słabych stron znormalizowanego podejścia do zarządzania. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników zaproponowano kierunki doskonalenia znormalizowanych systemów zarządzania.
This paper presents the results of the research conducted by the authoress on the basis of case studies in five companies with their own integrated systems of quality management, environmental management, and occupational health and safety management. The purpose of the research was to identify strong and weak points of the normalized approach to management. Directions for improving the normalized management systems are suggested on the basis of the received results.

W artykule omówiono wymagania i efekty wdrażania i stosowania usystematyzowanych standardów zarządzania środowiskowego w branży logistycznej w oparciu o standard ISO 14001. Zwrócono uwagę, iż standard zarządzania środowiskowego coraz częściej jest wdrażany w przedsiębiorstwach transportowych. Wymagania prawne oraz standard zarządzania środowiskowego poprawiają efektywność dbania o środowisko, podnoszą świadomość proekologiczną oraz wzbudzają zaufanie wśród kooperantów. Standard ISO 14001 dotyczy zarówno dużych międzynarodowych przewoźników jak i małych firm transportowych.
The environmental management system according to PN-EN ISO 14001: 2015 [1] is a system whose message is to protect the natural environment. The environmental management system focuses mainly on reducing waste, possibilities and methods of waste disposal, preventing pollution, reducing the use of natural resources, and in the context of the transport industry, reducing emissions. The idea of the system is continuous improvement of activities related to the protection of the natural environment - through identification of threats, risk assessment and mobilization of enterprises to comply with the requirements of law in the field of environmental protection. For many years, the transport industry has been governed by its laws. However, with the changing market, where apart from large transport concerns, there are also small and micro companies providing transport services that also have an impact on the environment in individual parts of the transport industry. There are more and more entrepreneurs, both Polish and foreign, specializing in the transport industry, hence legal regulations, EU regulations and industry standards or standards aimed at reducing the impact of transport on the natural environment appear. It seems that as of today, mobilizing enterprises of various sizes to implement unified rules, reduce emissions, oversee waste, implement unified management systems, including environmental management systems, is the most effective method of impacting the improvement of environmental protection in this area.

W artykule przedstawiono problem zarządzania hałasem generowanego przez przedsiębiorstwo podczas realizowanych procesów w aspekcie zarządzania środowiskowego w ramach strategii rozwoju firmy. Zaprezentowano emisję hałasu przez przedsiębiorstwo, drogi jego rozprzestrzeniania się hałasu zarówno w środowisku zewnętrznym jak i wewnętrznym zakładu. Kwestie organizacyjne i prawne w zakresie emisji hałasu przez zakład zostały również omówione. Zidentyfikowano problemem, związany z oceną klimatu akustycznego przedsiębiorstwa jakim jest brak ciągłej i kompleksowej analizy generowanego hałasu. Został on przedstawiony w dwóch podejściach systemowych, jako hałas emitowany w zewnętrznym otoczeniu firmy i hałas emitowany wewnątrz zakładu, obejmujący stanowiska pracy i ocenę maszyn i urządzeń. Do ciągłego monitorowania, analizy i oceny generowanego przez przedsiębiorstwo hałasu zaproponowano holistyczne algorytmy, ułatwiające zarządzanie hałasem w przedsiębiorstwie. Wykazano potrzebę wdrażania map hałasu, jako efektywnego narzędzia zarządzania tym aspektem środowiska.
The article presents the problem of noise management generated by the company during the realized processes in the aspect of environmental management as part of the company's development strategy. The main issues of noise generation and its spread outside and inside of the plant have been discussed. Organizational and legal issues have been mentioned in terms of noise emission by the plant. A problem in the enterprise was identified, correlated to the lack of continuous and comprehensive analysis of the generated noise. The noise generated by the plant was presented in two system approaches, as a noise emitted to the outside environment of the company and to the noise emitted inside the plant including workplaces and machinery and equipment. An holistic algorithm for continuous monitoring, analysis and evaluation of noise generation was proposed. This approach indicates the need implementing the noise maps as a tool to help with noise management.

Life Cycle Assessment, included in company environmental management methods, has particular importance in marketing management. Analysis of dangers to the environment through tools such as the LCA method allows for comparisons of alternative company management strategies. LCA is characterised as a technique for environmental management that enables environmental impact assessment of the product, process, industry, and even the comprehensive economic sector. LCA also influences decisions regarding environmental policy modification, but most importantly, it influences a company's marketing activities. The LCA technique is applied the world over with great effectiveness in studying specific phases of a product's life cycles – from 'birth to death'; however, Poland's experience in this domain constitutes continuously developing research areas. The experience of foreign research centres confirms the possibility of applying LCA techniques in supporting environmental risk assessment of innovative technologies where LCA is used to study the environmental impact of a new generation product, i.e. flocculants from polymer wastes. This article presents the results of a study of the effectiveness of applying a new generation of polyelectrolyte (gained from polystyrene waste) in treating industrial wastewater and the LCA environmental impact assessment, which was carried out using SimaPro software. Based on the analysis of the results of the application of sodium salts of sulfone derivatives of polystyrene in the treatment of mine water, it was found that these products significantly reduced the pollution indicators of mine water from KWK1. Accordingly, they provided the basis for the development of technical-scale technology.

Badania dotyczyły w szczególności identyfikacji etapów procesu podejmowania decyzji, istniejących barier oraz podejścia systemowego w zarządzaniu środowiskowym. Sporządzono schemat realizacji procesu podejmowania decyzji oparty na zasadach podejścia systemowego w zarządzaniu środowiskowym, z uwzględnieniem typowych barier. Przedstawiono również propozycje narzędzi informatycznych, które mogą znaleźć zastosowanie w tych procesach.
This article presents results of multidisciplinary literature review and its synthesis on the integration of environmental issues into decision-making processes in the company. The study was based particularly on issues such as stages of decision-making processes, existing barriers and systemic approach to environmental management. There were prepared o diagram of such a process based on the principles of systemic approach, taking into account the typical barriers to decision-making. There were also presented computer software examples that can be useful in these processes.

The article describes the trend towards implementation of environmental initiatives in the maritime and port sector. The introduction of environmental thinking and green management has been analysed to better understand the impacts on European ports. Moreover, drivers influencing port’s environmental initiatives and their adoption were analysed empirically on the case of port of Koper which is classified as one of the leading environmentally friendly European ports. Based on an in-deep analysis of developed measures a wider used approach has been proposed which might be used as a platform by the ports in the region and also by other fast developing ports. It is obvious that ports will be forced to implement environmental objects in their longterm development plan. Obtained cognitions should help them to develop a scenario for faster introduction of objects and measures to obtain the status of a green port and follow sustainable development in the future.

The severe consequences of climate change have left many unanswered questions about the environmental performance of businesses. Appropriate measures must be taken to tackle the problems conquered due to climate change. This study supports exploring the factors needed to get the Employees Environmental Performance (EEP). It includes Green Human Resources (GHR), Green Creativity (GC) and Proactive Environmental Management (PEM). The relationship among the variables was explored in the existing literature. This study aims to test the relationship between GHR and GC. Further, it also examined the mediating role of GC and moderating role of PEM. For this purpose, data were collected from employees of manufacturing companies (automobiles, food processing, chemicals, textiles, machinery and equipment) in India. More specifically, ISO 14001-certified companies were selected. Among the different institutions, 35 are manufacturing in India. Out of 35, 24 companies agreed to conduct a survey in their company. Totally 5376 employees were considered as a population for the study. With 95% confidence interval, 400 samples were selected, and a questionnaire was distributed among them using simple random sampling. 305 (76.25%) cases finalized for further analysis. The collected data analyzed using PLS-SEM with R software. The results highlighted the essential role of GHR practices in the manufacturing industry to enhance EEP since GHR positively influences EEP. Moreover, it was found that GC partially mediates the relationship between GHR and EEP. It indicates the importance of GC’s existence in increasing EEP through GHR. Finally, it was also found that PEM moderates the relationship between GHR and EEP. It suggested the role of pro-environmental management and their active pace in improving EEP. Managerial implications and future scope were discussed in this study.

The methodology basis is a combination of system analysis of the key principles of business development within the framework of environmental strategy in China with a comprehensive analysis of green industry concept as a factor limiting the activities of enterprises to avoid environmental pollution. The results obtained in the research indicate the presence of significant results in the interaction of government and business in the framework of mutually beneficial collaboration for the growth of the green industry. Chinese business structures invest in the development of “green” industrial and manufacturing technologies while ensuring the necessary level of environmental protection.

Celem artykułu jest określenie roli organów gmin w procedurze oceny oddziaływania na środowisko, głównych problemów związanych z wydawaniem na szczeblu lokalnym decyzji o środowiskowych uwarunkowaniach. Sformułowano następujące cele szczegółowe: • wyodrębnienie głównych zastrzeżeń wyrażanych przez organy gmin względem procedury oceny oddziaływania na środowisko, • określenie relacji pomiędzy organami gmin a organami ochrony środowiska w kontekście realizowanej procedury ocenowej, • ocena, czy i w jakim zakresie dotychczasowy zakres zaangażowania organów gmin w realizację procedury ocenowej oraz wysokie wartości przyrodnicze w gminie wpływają na koncepcję organów gminy dotyczącą prowadzenia procedury oceny oddziaływania na środowisko. Wybrano gminy, które objęte są obszarami Natury 2000 położone w czterech województwach: kujawsko – pomorskim, podkarpackim, śląskim oraz świętokrzyskim.
The aim of this paper is to estimate the role of bodies of municipalities in environmental impact assessment and main problems in issuing decisions about environmental conditions. In the article there are leading objections that municipal bodies have on the process of environmental impact assessment. Relations between municipal bodies and nature conservation authorities were defi ned in the context of preformed assessing process. The research was based on municipalities covered by the NATURA 2000 areas, located in Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Podkarpackie Voivodeship, Silesian Voivodeship and Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship.

Classical physico-geographical research was lost in significance to biological investigations (or to environmental science in the aspect of biotic components). Research activity in the human geography of Svalbard has mostly declined.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to is to provide insights on implementing corporate social responsibility for sustainability (CSRS) concept and show how it differs from basic corporate social responsibility (CSR). Methodology: The paper discusses major issues with references to existing literature and real business cases from S&P500 consumer discretionary sector. Findings: The main finding of this paper is that CSRS could provide the company with a competitive advantage as a growing number of consumers become more sustainable conscious. It could also help to overcome the increasing consumers' skepticism towards corporate social responsibility practices. Finally, it can also be seen as a step forward in defining what types of corporate activities are associated with desirable social and environmental gains. Research limitations: Our sample was restricted to the U.S. firms from the consumer discretionary sector. Therefore, conclusions should not be generalized to other markets. Our study is based on the analysis of environmental and social responsibility statements and assumes that they accurately represent corporate commitment in majority of the cases. Practical implications: CSRS offers corporations the opportunity to use their unique skills, culture, values, resources, and management capabilities to lead social progress by making sustainability part of its internal corporate logic.

Fugitive emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the chemical industry are, in addition to channelled emissions, an important element of the total emission into the air. The Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program is one of the tools to control this type of emission and is a key component of an integrated approach to environmental management. This paper presents the genesis and general assumptions of LDAR, the methodology of fugitive emissions analysis, including its quantification, an example of how to proceed with the implementation of a comprehensive LDAR system, including tools to support its functioning. The potential environmental and non-environmental benefits of implementing the LDAR program in the refining and petrochemical industry are also presented.

The development of enterprises in the 21st century must involve care for the natural environment. Owing to the introduction of ecological activities, entrepreneurs gain in the economic, ecological and social sphere. That is why it is so important to implement and disseminate ecological management in companies. Although undoubtedly the environmental awareness of entrepreneurs is increasing, there is a lack of much interest in implementing additional systems such as the EMAS Eco-Management and Audit Scheme. The purpose of the present study was to determine the impact of a functioning EMAS management system on the activities of organisations that have implemented this system. The basis for the evaluation was the results of research and a review of domestic and foreign literature. The results of the research show that the organisations undertook to implement EMAS observing a number of benefits. However, at the implementation stage, there were numerous, not always foreseen, difficulties which extended the planned implementation period. The conducted research can be the basis for the development of new procedures facilitating the implementation of the systems in the enterprise. They can provide valuable information for various organizations supporting and disseminating the development of pro-ecological management.
Rozwój przedsiębiorstw w XXI wieku musi wiązać się z troską o środowisko naturalne. Dzięki wprowadzaniu działań ekologicznych przedsiębiorcy zyskują na płaszczyźnie ekonomicznej, ekologicznej i społecznej. Dlatego tak ważne jest wdrażanie oraz upowszechnianie zarządzania ekologicznego w firmach. Chociaż niewątpliwie świadomość ekologiczna przedsiębiorców wzrasta obserwuje się brak dużego zainteresowania wprowadzaniem dodatkowych systemów jak System Ekozarządzania i Audytu EMAS. Celem pracy było określenie wpływu funkcjonującego systemu zarządzania EMAS na działalność organizacji, które wdrożyły ten system. Podstawą do oceny były wyniki badań oraz przegląd literatury krajowej i zagranicznej. Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań wskazują, że organizacje podejmowały się wdrożenia EMAS widząc szereg korzyści. Jednak na etapie wdrożenia wystąpiły liczne trudności, na które nie zawsze były przygotowane i które wydłużyły planowany okres wdrażania. Przeprowadzone badania mogą być podstawą opracowania nowych procedur ułatwiających wdrożenie systemów zarządzania środowiskowego w przedsiębiorstwie. Consumer approach of people caused that the high use of many natural resources exceeded the possibilities of reconstruction of our planet. These resources are first used in manufacturing companies to produce goods and services, which will later be sold to customers to meet their requirements. That is why the ecological education of people in this regard is so important. The purpose of this article was to define the ecological footprint and to show the size of this index in the world and Europe. Examples of actions that every company can make in its operation, to influence the improvement of this index, were also presented.

The first purpose of the research was to assess the dependence between the organisa-tional decision-makers willingness to implement systemic solutions relevant to insurance (RSSs) and the attributes (systemic, awareness-related and organisational) of an organisation managed in accordance with ISO 14001. Another purpose was to identify the motivators that drive entities to implement additional system elements. Earlier studies suggest that the structures of currently implemented ISO 14001 EMSs should be modified in order to increase their utility for the process of insurance provision. The research problem was solved based on data obtained through an online survey among organisa-tions implementing and certified ISO 14001 EMSs in Poland. Depending on the type of variables, the independence chi-square test, U-Mann-Whitney test, and the test of Spearman’s rank correlation, among others, were used for analysis. The results of the study may help build integrated environmental risk management tools. They indicate the legitimacy of using non-insurance motivators (e.g. reduction of environmental fees) to achieve the desired EMS structure in the organisation from the insurers' point of view. At the same time, they emphasise the need to build environmental risk awareness (including, among other things, the risk of liability for environmental damage and its severity) to achieve the above.
Pierwszym celem badania była ocena zależności pomiędzy skłonnością decydentów organizacji zarządzanych według ISO 14001 do wdrożenia istotnych ubezpieczeniowo rozwiązań systemowych a atrybutami tej organizacji (systemowymi, świadomościowymi i organizacyjnymi). Drugim celem była identyfikacja motywatorów, które skłaniają decydentów do wdrożenia dodatkowych elementów systemu. Wcześniejsze badania sugerują konieczność zmodyfikowania struktury obecnie wdrożonych SZŚ według ISO 14001 w celu zwiększenia ich przydatności dla procesu świadczenia ochrony ubezpieczeniowej. Problem badawczy rozwiązano w oparciu o dane pozyskane w drodze ankiety zrealizowanej online wśród organizacji, które wdrożyły i certyfikowały SZŚ ISO 14001 w Polsce. W zależności od rodzaju zmiennych do analizy wykorzystano m.in. test niezależności chi-kwadrat, test U-Manna-Whitneya, współczynnik korelacji rang Spearmana. Wyniki badań mogą być przydatne do budowania zintegrowanych narzędzi zarządzania ryzykiem środowiskowym. Wskazują na zasadność stosowania pozaubezpieczeniowych motywatorów (np. obniżenie opłat z tytułu korzystania ze środowiska) w celu osiągnięcia pożądanej – z punktu widzenia ubezpieczycieli – struktury SZŚ w organizacji. Jednocześnie akcentują konieczność budowania świadomości ryzyka środowiskowego (w tym m.in. ryzyka odpowiedzialności za szkody środowiskowe, ciężaru tej odpowiedzialności) dla osiągnięcia powyższego.

The purpose of the article is to identify and evaluate selected municipal government activities in environmental management for climate protection and to formulate recommendations for municipalities in this regard. The research methods used are: a literature review, and a quantitative analysis of CSO data on 13 specific indicators of municipalities (counties) on: climate change, air and groundwater protection, land use, biodiversity and waste management and qualitative analysis. The research examines the results of environmental management in municipalities in different parts of the world and on the territory of Polish municipalities (districts) of varying wealth. A comparative analysis of the management activity of municipalities (counties) in three groups of Polish local governments: the most wealthy, medium wealthy and least wealthy has been carried out. The study shows a higher intensity of pro-environmental activities among the more prosperous municipalities. The available CSO data are also insufficient to comprehensively assess the multi-faceted activity of municipalities in environmental management. The current priorities of local authorities and the natural conditions of the municipality due to its location are also important. It is recommended to increase the activity of municipal authorities, especially less wealthy ones, in environmental management, and to increase the activity of all municipalities in the legal protection of environmentally valuable areas and in the creation of biodiversity.
Celem artykułu jest identyfikacja i ocena wybranych aktywności samorządów gminnych w zakresie zarządzania środowiskiem dla ochrony klimatu oraz sformułowanie rekomendacji dla gmin w tym zakresie. Zastosowane metody badawcze to: przegląd literatury, ilościowa analiza danych GUS w zakresie 13 wskaźników szczegółowych gmin (powiatów) dotyczących: zmian klimatu, ochrony powietrza i wód gruntowych, użytkowania gruntów, bioróżnorodności i gospodarki odpadami i analiza jakościowa. Badania dotyczą rezultatów zarządzania ochroną środowiska w gminach w różnych częściach świata oraz na terytorium polskich gmin (powiatów) o zróżnicowanej zamożności. Dokonana została analiza porównawcza aktywności zarządczej gmin (powiatów) w trzech grupach polskich samorządów: najzamożniejszych, średniozamożnych i najmniej zamożnych. Z badań wynika większa intensywności działań prośrodowiskowych wśród gmin bardziej zamożnych. Dostępne dane GUS są także niewystarczające, aby kompleksowo ocenić wieloaspektową aktywność gmin w zarządzaniu ochroną środowiska. Ważne są także aktualne priorytety władz lokalnych oraz naturalne warunki gminy wynikające z jej położenia. Rekomenduje się zwiększenie aktywności władz gmin, szczególnie mniej zamożnych, w zakresie zarządzania środowiskiem oraz zwiększenie aktywności wszystkich gmin w prawnej ochronie obszarów cennych przyrodniczo oraz w kreowaniu bioróżnorodności.

An example of a large, innovative environmental project implementation is Central Sewage Treatment Plant in Kozieglowy in the agglomeration of Poznan, installations and equipment impact assessment studies. An important part of the project were mediations, which were started in May 2011, until the end of April 2012.

In this paper, the author attempts to point out the meaning of procedures for the environmental management systems (EMS). Particular attention is paid to form and content, as well as the functions, proprieties and structure of the procedures. The analyses were carried out taking into account the systemic approach, with respect to core areas covered by the ISO 14001 standard. Based on the chosen procedures, some fundamental methods of elaborating and implementing the EMS procedures were indicated, which might improve the organization and optimization of realization processes. It was also put forward that procedures should provide a vital support to management processes in fulfilling their purpose.

The water resources are the main component of technological processes occurring in industry; therefore, increasing the level of environmental safety, in particular, wastewater treatment without adverse impact on the environment and human health is relevant. The preliminary environmental analysis of the motor transport enterprise (MTE) activity has been carried out. It has been established that about twenty environmental aspects identified in the departments of technical inspection and repair and service have an adverse impact on the state of the environment. A substantial impact on the environment occurs when the sewage containing petroleum products, washing liquids, waste lubricants and contaminated by the products of tissue origin enters the soil and water objects and their resources. On the basis of the preliminary analysis, the authors have identified the environmental aspects of the company’s activity and proposed an environmental policy as an essential element for the implementation of the environmental management system. The studies conducted with the aim of determining the motor transport enterprise sewage composition revealed an excessive content of polluting chemical substances, namely: suspended substances, phosphates, iron, fats, oil products and synthetic detergents. The expediency of using carbonaceous sorbents of vegetable origin, which were obtained from the waste wood industry for wastewater treatment of the enterprise, was investigated. It was revealed that the process of sorption purification improved the quality of wastewater of the motor transport enterprise to the standard values. The proposed recommendations for the implementation of the environmental management system will gradually reduce the impact of the company on the main components of the biosphere. Effective implementation of the environmental management system will help to increase the competitiveness of the enterprise and lead to an economic effect by saving raw materials, materials, energy resources, reducing the environmental fees and penalties.

The authors analyse the standardisation of risk management as an effective tool for the safety of design solutions in residential construction. The analysed regulatory documentation answers the question of achieving an acceptable level of risk. Within the framework of improving environmental management, the use of specific penalties looks quite natural. However, the primary purpose of ISO 14001 is to form a responsible attitude toward the environment and natural resources as the most crucial assets of economic activity. The article raises the issue that domestic standards cannot thoroughly guide risk analysts due to their lack of development and inconsistency with ISO 31000:2018 and ISO 14001:2016. It is necessary to develop a unique approach to risk assessment, de facto describing the interaction of different scenarios, which will ensure an increase in the environmental and economic effects in the field of housing safety.

This article presents principles of identification and assessment of the environmental aspects required by the Environmental Management System based on the ISO 14001 standard. The course of preparing the procedure of identification and assessment of the environmental aspects, with particular consideration of methods for identification of activities, products and services, environmental aspects and impacts related to the plant’s activity were discussed. In this article, possibilities of using the environmental risk analysis for the assessment of identified environmental aspects and impacts were also characterised.

Ore processing industry in Indonesia applies the international standard of environmental management system based on ISO 14001:2015. The implementation of clause 6.1.2 requires every organization to identify the environmental aspects of its operations, as an initial step in environmental management. The objective of this research is to develop a structured approach in identifying the environmental aspects and impacts so that an evaluation on the risks, opportunities as well as severity of possible environmental impacts can be conducted. The employed methods involve life-cycle approach and risk assessment method with four-cell risk assessment matrix in environmental risk determination. The results of this risk assessment can give an overview of environmental aspects and impacts, so that control priority can be determined in order to reduce the risks.

The data of individual sector on environmental science is compiled in information technology (IT) through database software known as Environment Information (EI). Environment information is an easy accessible database in individual sector, where people can know both new research scope and impact on environment. The present study deals to inform that EI is an area, in which the knowledge of environmental science and IT is combined through database software. In this paper, individual research area, data format and beneficial aspects on environmental science is tabulated for EI. There are several research areas in which the data viz. ecology and ecosystem, biodiversity and conservation of important species, health hazards by diseases, health care facilities, toxicological aspects, wastes types, source generation and management, alternative energy generation facilities, environment education and awareness etc. It is a conceptual approach to gather knowledge of environment related problems and prospects and can easily make a database for the intellectuals, academicians, scientists, regulatory authorities, policy makers, researchers, students etc. These help to know benefits in research area, regulatory process, decision making and proper environment management. People can easily access compiled database in an individual sector of environment science.

Wskazując na interdyscyplinarność problemów stanowiących przedmiot zainteresowań zarządzania środowiskowego, w szczególności skupiono się na jego związkach z dyscypliną nauki o zarządzaniu w dziedzinie nauk ekonomicznych i humanistycznych oraz z dyscypliną inżynieria produkcji w dziedzinie nauk technicznych. Wskazano ponadto najważniejsze wyzwania i kierunki rozwoju zarządzania środowiskowego. Podstawą ich identyfikacji były aktualne wymagania inteligentnego i zrównoważonego rozwoju gospodarczego.
The article presents reflections concerning the issue of environmental management and its place in the economics, technological sciences and humanities. The interdisciplinary nature of problems being the subject of environmental management has been pointed out. Particular emphasis has been placed on the relationships between the environmental management and the management in the field of economics and humanities as well as the production engineering in the field of technological sciences. The main challenges and directions of scientific and research activity in the environmental management have been suggested. The basis for their identification was the current requirements of smart and sustainable economic growth.

Information systems as models for environmental management, or its component parts, have evolved due to the increasing demand for information about the environment and its protection against threats. This article attempts to develop a prototype system, assisting the management of municipal waste in the municipality of valuable natural areas. The system takes into account the results of previously conducted research and analysis.

REACH is an European Community regulation, which aims to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals. All chemical substances within the European Community (EC) territory in quantities of more than 1 Mg P.A. have to be registered by manufactures or importers, which have to submit to ECHA dossiers about each substance. The last mentioned refers to both natural as well as synthetic substances. Good example of this type of substances are zeolites. This paper presents the aspects of REACH regulation in case of zeolites production. Zeolites are crystalline, micro porous, hydrated aluminosilicates that are built from an infinitely extending three dimensional network of [SiO4]4- and [AlO4]5- tetrahedral linked to each other by the sharing of oxygen atoms. Zeolites, thanks to their sorptive and ion-exchange properties, have a great potential in their application e.g. water and wastewater treatment (removal of ammonium ions, heavy metals, oil-derivative contaminants, radioactive compounds), adsorption processes etc. Zeolites are natural minerals (chabazite, phillipsite, mordenite, clinoptilolite) but majority of zeolites used commercially are produced in synthetic processes. Natural zeolites are a substance within the meaning of REACH regulation as a consequence of mentioned substance definition given in 3rd Article of regulation. The problem of synthetic zeolites is closely connected with status of waste in the meaning of Waste Framework Directive and REACH regulation.

The article presents the issues of environmental management systems as effective instruments for mitigation of ecological risk in the enterprise. It presents the genesis of the concept of risk and ecological risk by focusing attention on the process of management in business practice. For a practical example of the use of an environmental management system to reduce the ecological risk of the business served production group ROCKWOOL.

The present paper deals with the issue of sustainable development and the adopted Agenda 2030. Its aim was to assess and clarify, based on available databases from the Statistical Office of the European Communities (Eurostat), the intermediate status of the implementation of selected objectives and indicators of the 2030 Agenda at the level of the European Union countries.
W artykule przedstawiono problematykę zrównoważonego rozwoju i przyjętej Agendy 2030. Jego celem była ocena i wyjaśnienie, na podstawie dostępnych baz danych Urzędu Statystycznego Wspólnot Europejskich (Eurostat), stanu pośredniego realizacji wybranych celów i wskaźników Agendy 2030 na poziomie krajów Unii Europejskiej.

The uptake of various types of norms on management around the world resulted in the creation of a range of certificates that have been accepted by organizations and are improving their marketing position on the international market. In the area of environmental management, the ISO 14001 norm is the type of certificate that is widely used. This norm is implemented by many industrial and, ever more often, service organizations around the world. This publication presents an analysis of the state of implementation of the ISO 14001 standard in European Union countries. To carry out the analysis, saturation of ISO 14001 indicator was introduced, which is discussed in detail in the later part of the publication. The article aims to examine saturation with the ISO 14001 certificates of European Union countries and determine whether there exists a relation between the saturation of ISO 14001 certificates and the wealth of individual countries measured by GDP per capita.
Powszechne rozpowszechnienie rożnego rodzaju norm dotyczących zarządzania na świecie powoduje, że powstało wiele tego rodzaju certyfikatów, znajdujących uznanie organizacji i poprawiających ich pozycje marketingową na rynku międzynarodowym. W obszarze zarządzania środowiskowego tego rodzaju certyfikatem, powszechnie stosowanym na świecie, jest norma ISO 14001. Jest ona stosowana na całym świecie przez wiele organizacji zarówno przemysłowych jak i coraz częściej usługowych. W niniejszej publikacji przedstawiono analizę stanu implementacji normy ISO 14001 w krajach Unii Europejskiej. Aby wykonać tego rodzaju analizę posłużono się wprowadzonym wskaźnikiem nasycenia certyfikatami ISO 14001, który został szczegółowo omówiony w dalszej części publikacji. Celem artykułu jest zbadanie nasycenia certyfikatami ISO 14001 krajów Unii Europejskiej i określenie czy istnieje związek między nasyceniem certyfikatami ISO 14001 a zamożnością poszczególnych krajów mierzonym PKB per capita.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore the concept of corporate posturing and deception in the area of social and environmental responsibility, its main types and causes and to assess the actual scale of the problem. Methodology: The paper discusses major issues with references to existing literature and practical examples. Findings: The main fi nding of this paper is that environmental and social responsibility statements accurately represent corporate commitment in the majority of cases. There are a number of reasons for this state of affairs. The most important of them are: easy consumer and investor access to various sustainability ratings, the rising scale of external verifi cation of social responsibility reports by independent third parties and stakeholder groups, and the rising liability for corporate social responsibility frauds. Research limitations: The paper explores issues related to the problems and challenges of fair and accurate corporate social reporting. Many questions remain to be addressed. Practical implications: Social and environmental branding could give companies competitive advantage as a growing number of consumers become more sustainability-conscious. It could also help overcome the increasing skepticism of consumers towards corporate social responsibility practices. Originality: The paper raises the importance of the different conditions of corporate disinformation in the field of social and environmental responsibility and adds value to the existing body of literature on corporate greenwashing.

In this globalized era, building materials play an essential role in the civil engineering field. Nowadays, with the increase in population, the demand for construction activities is also increasing. Polyethylene (PET) bottles are among the most widely used materials and cause an abundance of non-degradable waste, at about 0.94 million tonnes in Malaysia. One of the alternatives to reduce this waste's environmental impact is to incorporate it inside building materials such as brick and concrete. As PET bottles' recycling is highly promoted, the physical and mechanical properties of building materials made from PET bottles have also been reviewed. The data analysis shows that the compressive strength, flexural strength, split tensile strength and density of building materials decreases as the percentage of PET waste increases. However, other properties such as water absorption, initial absorption rate, and firing shrinkage increase proportionally with the PET waste. Besides, heavy metals in these building materials comply with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) standards. It can be concluded that the percentage of PET waste incorporated into brick and concrete must be less than 5% and 2%, respectively, to produce suitable materials to provide alternatives in reducing and recycling PET waste.
