Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present a case study in the development and implementation of a risk management system in a medium-sized manufacturing company. The first part discusses the basic concepts related to the enterprise risk management process. A five-stage model of this process is briefly characterised which was used to build the system in question. This is followed by a presentation of the procedures developed for use in the practical implementation of the enterprise risk management system at each of the three distinguished levels of risk management. An example of one of the procedures developed and used is presented, together with a checklist for the analysis and assessment of risk factors for the identified risks. The risk management system developed for the company in question was implemented for practical use in the company over several months. At the end of the successful implementation of the system, the minor shortcomings identified have been rectified and it is being used by all, distinguished owners of the identified risks in the enterprise. Design/methodology/approach: This paper presents a new and original approach to the practical application of risk management in a medium-sized manufacturing company. Risk owners were distinguished for all processes carried out in the company and risk types were identified for them. Checklists were established to analyse and assess the risks for each distinguished risk type. Originality/value: The results of the conceptual and implementation work on the analysis and risk assessment of the implementation of processes in the enterprise obtained and presented in the paper can be addressed to those involved in company management, both in a practical and theoretical sense.

Main aim of the article was comparison of sales forecasts effectiveness in a company. In the first stage time series representing sales were selected with respect to presence of seasonality and consistency with gamma distribution. Two types of statistical tests were used: F test (seasonality) and nonparametric Locke tests (compatibility with gamma distribution). In the next step ex post forecast were computed by means of linear trend model with seasonality and gamma distribution (on the level of median of theoretical distribution). Effectiveness of forecasts was compared on the basis of chosen coefficients of forecasts errors. Forecasts obtained be means of gamma distribution turned out to be better in all considered aspects

Objectives: The key aim of the paper is to outline the concept of integrated risk management in municipal construction enterprises, seen as a supportive function that facilitates the overall management of an organisation. What matters most, both in the theory and in practice, is the ability to use appropriate methodology in this respect. Such issues now constitute an integral element of public management in Poland. Research Design & Methods: A cognitive gap, identified in the scholarly literature, has served as a starting point for the theoretical and conceptual discussions addressed in this paper, in particular, within the scope of risk management methods. This paper contains a review of the literature on this subject. Deduction and induction have been used to formulate the conclusion. Another method employed in this paper is synthesis. The conclusions drawn in this paper result also from the observations made during long-term research into risk, including in the public construction sector, which has been conducted by the author at the University of Economics in Katowice. Findings: The concept proposed in this paper is the outcome of the author’s studies, conducted with a view to identifying solutions, both theoretical and methodical ones, in the area of risk management in municipal construction enterprises operating in Poland. Integrated risk management provides the basic framework for the concept which is drawn up as a result of the research. Implications / Recommendations: In its main body this paper presents a recommendation which consists of a modification of the general concept of Construction Risk Management (CRM) into Integrated Construction Risk Management (ICRM), with a simultaneous proposal that the general risk management concept (theory), which is followed by commercial companies (Enterprise Risk Management; ERM), should be implemented in municipal construction enterprises as well. The proposed solutions may then be transferred to the practical operations of such municipal entities or of public organisations at large (the utilitarian dimension of knowledge). Contribution / Value Added: This paper is an attempt to add to the theoretical background to risk management in the public sector, which refers, in particular, to New Public Management (NPM), the notion used by municipal construction enterprises in Poland.

In the article the author presented the example of a management system implementation in an enterprise. The elements of the system were discussed, especially the role of a project manager in the system. The range of procedures realized in the frame of the system was analysed. Additionally, the practical conclusions were given deriving from the process of preparation and implementation of a project management system in a specified enterprise.

We współczesnych przedsiębiorstwach coraz częściej pojawiają się zadania wymagające niestandardowego podejścia i znalezienia innowacyjnego rozwiązania. Zaspokojenie tych potrzeb może być zrealizowane dzięki wykorzystaniu koncepcji interim management (IM). W Polsce jest ona jeszcze relatywnie mało znana, natomiast w firmach działających na rynku europejskim jest powszechnym i cenionym rozwiązaniem. Celem artykułu jest wskazanie możliwości wykorzystania koncepcji interim management w zarządzaniu współczesnym przedsiębiorstwem. Na wstępie opisano specyfikę IM. Następnie, na podstawie literatury oraz przeglądu wyników badań, dokonano analizy celów i obszarów wykorzystania IM w przedsiębiorstwach. W końcowej części zaprezentowano studia przypadków obrazujące zastosowanie koncepcji interim management w Polsce w firmach różnej wielkości i branży.
In the contemporary enterprises, there are more and more tasks that require a non-standard approach, a broader look at the problem and finding in a short time the innovative solutions. The satisfaction of these needs can be achieved through the concept of interim management (IM). In Poland, it is still relatively little known, whereas in the companies operating on the European market it is a common and highly regarded solution. The aim of the article is to assess the possibilities of using the concept of interim management in the modern enterprise management. At the outset, the specifics of the concept of interim management has been discussed. Then, on the basis of the literature and the review of the research results, the analysis of the objectives and areas of use of IM in the enterprises has been performed. In the final section, the case studies of the use of the concept of interim management in polish companies of all sizes have been presented.

The aim of the research is to support the organisation’s management through raising awareness on cultural diversity in the multicultural environment, and presenting a complex model covering the cultural issues in the multicultural organisation. Methods. The model has been developed based on the research carried out between 2018 and 2021 in the Cultural Risk in the Organisation in the Globalisation Era – Competences vs. Reality project. The author used literature review and a survey questionnaire as research methods. To develop the model for staff management at a multicultural organisation, a survey questionnaire directed to 154 staff members of multicultural organisations in five countries (Poland, Italy, Latvia, Cyprus, and the UK) was used. Results. As a result of the analysis, the following key areas have been identified: cross-cultural awareness, understanding different cultures, stereotypes, communication, teamwork, leadership and hierarchy, learning styles, and qualities in the workplace. The improvement of the staff in the aforementioned areas makes them more aware of the cultural diversity in organisations and of different cultural risks that may occur. Conclusions. There is a strong need for a continued consideration and improvement of the awareness regarding cultural diversity, as it is an element of modern and changing economy which may influence the continuity of every organisation. Cognitive value. Key topics related to competences for mitigating cultural risks were identified. They were used as elements of the complex model which can be used at a multicultural organisation in the process of training the staff in the area of cultural diversity.

In many companies, along with the economic development, the use of integrated management systems is becoming more and more common, which are subject to evolution in terms of, inter alia, offered functions and new user requirements. The main purpose of this paper is to compare selected ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems in the field of production planning and control on the example of the automotive industry. The paper presents the contemporary functioning of the automotive industry against the background of issues related to the integrated management systems used in them. The research part presents the proprietary methodology for the assessment of IT systems used in the automotive industry, which included a user survey. The obtained score allowed to indicate the optimal ERP class system supporting production planning and control.

W artykule przedstawiono istotę i znaczenie innowacji dla rozwoju przedsiębiorstwa. Scharakteryzowano źródła i przesłanki innowacyjności w organizacji W przeprowadzonych badaniach przyjęto tezę, zgodnie z którą jednym ze sposobów transpozycji tradycyjnego systemu zarządzania na nowoczesny, uwzględniający gospodarkę opartą na wiedzy (GOW) jest przyjęcie odpowiedniego modelu systemu zarządzania wiedzą i informacjami. Przyjęto również stwierdzenie, że podstawą, „sercem” innowacji jest wiedza. Przyjmując za punkt wyjścia ogólny, wieloaspektowy model zarządzania organizacją zaproponowano model systemu zarządzania wiedzą i informacjami, który w swym zakresie ujmowałby wybrane podsystemy. W wyniku przeprowadzonych badań empirycznych określono głównie determinanty podsystemu innowacyjności. Stanowiły one podstawę do wskazania kierunków zmian organizacyjnych dynamizujących innowacyjność przedsiębiorstw w kontekście gospodarki opartej na wiedzy.
The article presents the essence and significance of innovation for an enterprise’s development. It characterises sources and assumptions of innovation in an organization. The thesis was assumed in the executed research that one of the ways to transpose a traditional management system into a modern one, considering economy based on knowledge (GOW) is to apply an appropriate model of knowledge and information management. It was also declared that the basis, the “heart” of innovation is knowledge. Assuming that the point of departure is a general, multi-aspect model of organization management, a model of knowledge and information management was proposed which would include a selected subsystem within its scope. As a consequence of empirical research being executed the main determinants of the innovation subsystem were defined. They formed the basis to indicate the directions of organizational changes which dynamise innovation of enterprises within the context of economy based on knowledge.

Pomiar efektów prowadzonej działalności jest ważną częścią składową w zarządzaniu organizacją, jest jednak zróżnicowany ze względu na jej charakter i cel działania. Celem artykułu jest próba ukazania, jak przedstawiane są w wybranych pozycjach współczesnej literatury teoretyczne aspekty efektywności organizacji, w szczególności w zakresie organizacji nie działających w celu osiągnięcia zysku. Artykuł powstał przez zastosowanie metody przeglądu literatury przedmiotu z zakresu efektywności organizacji, pomiaru dokonań oraz zarządzania publicznego w ramach systemu finansów publicznych.
The measurement of effectiveness is an important component in the management of the organization, however, it varies according to its nature and the purpose of the action. The purpose of the article is an attempt to show how the effectiveness is presented in selected positions of contemporary literature from the theoretical point of view. The attention is paid to non-profit making organizations sponsored by government in particular. This article was written using the method of literature review in the field of organizational effectiveness, measurement of achievements and public management in the context of the public finance system.

Given the discrepancy between the views of economists on the definition of the concept of competitiveness, competitiveness of the enterprise, its efficiency and stability are identified by a multidirectional influence of a plurality of factors it is determined. The work the factors of influence on the level of competitiveness of the enterprise, namely the factors of the external and internal environment is summarized. Accounting for these factors is necessary in the process of managerial decisions making on competitive advantages managing in order to increase the level of competitiveness. Fundamental stages of the assessment and management of the enterprise competitiveness is considered. With the help of method of analysis of the hierarchy the directions of raising the competitiveness level on the example of the enterprise LLC "Ukragrozapchastyna" is determines. The most priority directions of competitiveness increase according to the research are the introduction of a direction of activity that would overcome the seasonality of the industry, the transition to process management, changes in organizational structure.

W opracowaniu przeanalizowano zidentyfikowane ryzyko, które towarzyszy w prowadzeniu każdej działalności. Wykorzystując badania literaturowe oraz własne praktyki dotyczące zarządzania ryzykiem, w prezentowanym artykule szczególną uwagę zwrócono na fakt, iż ryzyko związane jest z każdą decyzją, tj. operacyjną, inwestycyjną czy finansową. Szczególnie w pracy podkreślono, że należy dopasować zarządzanie ryzykiem do specyfiki przedsiębiorstwa i skoncentrować się na charakterystycznym dla niego ryzyku. Zwrócono również uwagę na szersze uświadomienie kadrom zarządzającym znaczenia zarządzania ryzykiem gospodarczym i uwzględnienia go w planowaniu finansowym. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie i analiza ryzyka występującego w przedsiębiorstwie z sektora górniczego.
The study identifies the identified risks that accompany each business. Using research and risk management practices in this article, attention has been paid to the fact that the risk is related to any decision, ie operational, investment or financial. It is particularly emphasized in the paper that the risk management should be tailored to the specific nature of the business and should focus on its specific risks. Attention was also paid to a broader awareness of the importance of managing and evaluating economic risk in the financial management.

The article deals with the issue of employees' participation in the security management system in an enterprise. The issue of participation was presented as well as empirical studies illustrating the problem of the study. The benefits from the creative participation of employees in a safety management system were also shown. It was stated that an employee’s participation in specific areas of business management is important and that it is a desirable direction in the development of the employees' staff and displaying joint responsibility for the workplace. The research was carried out in five enterprises engaged in the business of construction and renovation activities. The surveyed employees were employed in various positions and at various organizational levels, they took part in the survey and in individual interviews. Questions from the first part of the questionnaire generally concerned issues related to occupational health and safety. The second part concerned issues directly related to the safety management system as well as the creativity and participation of employees in improving work safety in the surveyed enterprise. Empirical studies have shown that some of the surveyed employees have a rather passive attitude towards systemic issues. The article uses the approach that puts human events in the epicenter as one of the most important drivers of changes taking place in enterprises. In order to further improve the functioning of the implemented and maintained systems, enterprises have created their own set of practiced forms of employee participation.

In the age of market globalisation, characterised, among other things, by high intensity of competition among enterprises, it is increasingly important to have broadly understood knowledge about consumers, their needs, expectations, habits, aspirations and, above all, determinants of such behaviour. Food manufacturers, in order to survive on the increasingly competitive market of food products, have to monitor factors shaping consumer behaviour on the market, which are subject to constant changes, and to explore the determinants of changes. As part of the research a questionnaire survey was conducted on the population of 200 people – a group of German school pupils aged 12–16. The research procedure was a direct questionnaire survey. The spatial extent of the questionnaire survey was the area of Brandenburg. The substantive scope of the questionnaire survey included issues related with the process of taking decisions by consumers about purchase of particular food products and factors affecting such decisions.
W dobie globalizacji rynków, charakteryzującej się między innymi dużą intensywnością konkurencji między przedsiębiorstwami, coraz ważniejsze staje się posiadanie szeroko rozumianej wiedzy o konsumentach, ich potrzebach, oczekiwaniach, nawykach, aspiracjach, a przede wszystkim o determinantach tychże zachowań. Producenci żywności, chcąc funkcjonować w warunkach wciąż rosnącej konkurencji na rynku produktów żywnościowych, stają przed koniecznością monitorowania czynników kształtujących zachowania konsumentów na tym rynku, które podlegają ciągłym zmianom oraz poznawania determinantów tych zmian. W ramach części badawczej przeprowadzono badanie ankietowe na 200 osobowej grupie respondentów – niemieckich uczniów w wieku od 12 do 16 lat. Procedura badawcza opierała się o bezpośredni wywiad ankietowy, a obszar badawczy dotyczył Brandenburgii. Uwagę skoncentrowano na zagadnieniach związanych z procesami podejmowania decyzji przez konsumentów w aspekcie zakupu poszczególnych produktów żywnościowych oraz czynników oddziałujących na te decyzje.

Effective and efficient management of a modern enterprise requires the implementation of an analytical approach in which business intelligence (BI) is increasingly used. The aim of this paper is the assessment of selected BI tools from the point of view of managers as their key users. At the beginning of the article, the modern BI tools market has been characterized. The main part of the considerations is the evaluation of Power BI Desktop, Tableau Desktop and QlikView platforms offered by the three leaders of this market.

Zarządzanie przedsiębiorstwem górniczym to działania polegające na ustalaniu celów i ich realizacji w jednostkach produkcyjnych, czyli kopalniach, powodujące takie funkcjonowanie kopalń, aby zostały osiągnięte wszystkie wcześniejsze założenia. Zrealizowanie zamierzonego celu jest zatem miarą sprawności zarządzania i wymaga wykonania ciągu zadań, w oparciu o określone metody i sposoby działania. Artykuł stanowi wprowadzenie do zagadnienia planowania w przedsiębiorstwie górniczym. Uwzględnia zmiany w podejściu do procesu planowania oraz specyfikę górnictwa węgla kamiennego.
The management of a mining enterprise is an activity involving establishing aims and leading to their achievement in production units - mines. This activity should lead to such a functioning of mines that enables the achievement of aims. The efficiency of this management is, broadly speaking, measured by the most efficient achievement of the aims that have been established. The achievement of such an aim requires carrying out a series of activities, based on specific methods and modes of action. The article is an introduction to the issue of planning in the mining industry. It takes into account changes in the approach to planning, including the specificity of coal mining.

The adoption of the new Restructuring law in Poland resulted, that more entrepreneurs deciding to use the judicial path to restructure their businesses. This is due to the fact that the economic environment is changing dynamically, which has impact on the way companies compete and operate on the market. In this article, the author presents the consequences of initiating a restructuring proceeding from perspective of the enterprise authorities and stakeholder groups, i.e. creditors, owners, financial institutions, etc.

This article concerns the issue of modernization of the manufacturing system of national enterprises by implementing modern information technologies. The analysis of the need for the industrial transformation of Ukraine at the macro level has been conducted. The role of modernization of the manufacturing structure of the enterprise is determined. Changes in technology have significant influence on the transformation of enterprise management system. The role of modern information systems in management of technological processes is analyzed. Effective Enterprise Management System (EMS) shall harmoniously combine diverse targeted components into the new competitive socioeconomic system. Changes in areas of EMS improvement during the process of formation of information infrastructure are shown in this research. MES system is a key element of the overall enterprise information structure; it is able to meet the challenges of the manufacturing sphere. The existing barriers to the development of production systems for national enterprises are also analyzed and summarized.
