    The paper demonstrates selected communicative phenomena characteristic of the Polish high school classroom, i.e. classroom communicative inertia and students’ communicative snippiness, which are assumed to originate, inter alia, from the popularity of Internet social networks, the language of which has been partly shaped by such globalising tendencies as the rise of the dominant position of the English language and Anglo-Saxon culture. The remedy for the aforementioned negative aspects of classroom communication may be sought among the premises underlying the concept of the transcommunicator. It is assumed that the above theory should be applied to English language teaching and learning in Poland.

    Opis:
    This paper evaluates the affordability of Quipper as an online platform for teaching and learning English as a foreign language (EFL). It focuses on the extent to which features available in Quipper may correspond to fundamental components of Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) pedagogy, as suggested by Chapelle (2003), including L2-input exposure, interaction and linguistic production. The evaluation results indicate that Quipper is affordable for use as an online teaching and learning EFL platform. More importantly, it corresponds to the three conditions of CALL pedagogy, thus making it a potential aid for activities used in teaching and learning foreign language.

    The paper presents a study about using Insta.Ling e-learning platform in university teaching process of English language for Biology students. The aim of this study is to estimate its effectiveness and the correlation between the number of repetitions and the number of words memorized. The total number of students involved in this research is 129 (6 student groups and in 3 academic years). They are all students of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University, Warsaw. The results allow to assume that Insta.Ling environment is an effective way to learn new vocabulary and regular sessions positively affect the number of vocabulary memorized.

    The paper presents results of a questionnaire survey which aim was to find out English learners´ preferences of different platforms and applications to be used for home schooling.    Concept. Key attention of the authors is paid to the issue of the transition of face-to-face forms of education to online platforms, caused by school closures due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. At first, they deal with the use of digital technologies in teaching in general. They analyse how digital didactic means were used prior to the pandemic situation and they present research results related to differences among the ways of the use of these means within different subjects teaching (natural science subjects, technically oriented subjects, languages, social science subjects, artwork subjects). Consequently, the authors deal with the methodological aspects of the use of online forms in foreign language teaching.    Methodology. To find answer to such questions as which educational form, school education or home schooling, is more preferred by English learners, what are the strengths and weaknesses of home schooling, which foreign language skills are being practiced via online Zoom lessons,  which foreign language skills are being practiced via worksheets, or which mobile applications are used to enlarge students` vocabulary range, a questionnaire survey was carried out. Respondents of the survey were English learners, secondary vocational school students,,aged from 16 to 20 year-olds.    Results and conclusions. Based on the analysis of the data recorded from the learners` responses to the particular questionnaire items as the most significant three weaknesses of the home schooling were identified technical problems, more homework and lack of social contacts, while as the main strengths were found out home comfort, sufficient sleeping time and less dense timetable.

    The aim of this article is to deal with the topic of German as a foreign language by considering German in the context of the other languages already known to the learners. It is about the positive effects of prior knowledge as well as prior experience in learning subsequent languages, i.e. about language and language learning transfer in the constellation “German after English”, because English is mostly the first foreign language in school today. The goal is to raise awareness of the multilingual context of Central Europe and to use it specifically for didactic support of foreign language teaching. After an introduction and an overview of the knowledge on language learning and the didactics of multilingualism the outlook deals with the use of the research results considering the didactic theory in learning and teaching practice.
    In dem Beitrag wird das Thema Deutsch als Fremdsprache (DaF) behandelt, indem Deutsch im Kontext der anderen, den Lernenden schon bekannten Sprachen, beobachtet wird. Dabei handelt es sich um die positiven Effekte der Vorkenntnisse sowie der Vorerfahrungen beim Erlernen von Folgesprachen, d. h. des sprach- und sprachlernbezogenen Transfers in der Konstellation „Deutsch nach Englisch“, da das Englische heutzutage zumeist die erste Fremdsprache in der Schule ist. Die Idee besteht darin, den mehrsprachigen Kontext Mitteleuropas bewusst zu machen und gezielt zur didaktischen Unterstützung im Fremdsprachenunterricht einzusetzen. Nach einer Einführung und einer Übersicht über die bisherigen Kenntnisse zum Sprachenlernen und zur Mehrsprachigkeitsdidaktik wird im Ausblick auf die Nutzung der Forschungsergebnisse unter Berücksichtigung der didaktischen Theorie in der Lern- und Lehrpraxis eingegangen.

    In the conditions of today’s expansion of English as the global language of international communication, more and more adults who earlier completed their secondary or even higher education start learning it anew at commercial language schools and centers the world over. However, the pedagogy and methodology of teaching and learning at such schools and centers have not been developed yet. The present article is an attempt of solving some theoretical and practical issues of organizing such teaching and learning using as an example a pre-intermediate level course of English developed by the author for his commercial language center in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine. The way of teaching and learning suggested in the article was developed to meet learners’ expectations and, at the same time, to be in full accordance with the latest achievements in organizing adult students’ efficient language acquisition. The developed approach was called the communicative-analytic one since, on the one hand, it makes use of the best in communicative language learning for attainment of the final goal of language education for adults – developing their English communicative competence. On the other hand, the communicative approach is combined with learners’ analysis, practicing, and consciousness-raising as to separate language forms that students believe to be indispensable for language acquisition. The fundamental feature of the course is the combination in the learning process of the developed communicative-analytic approach with the highest level of communicative language teaching – the experiential approach used for achieving the optimum learning outcomes in communicative skills acquisition. The paper discusses the learning activities characterizing both approaches and gives practical examples of such activities. The developed course is structured so as to teach both written and oral communication in English in parallel and in an integrated manner, and instances of such teaching are also given.
