‘Biographicity’ is a concept that has been discussed in international adult education for more than 30 years. It has stimulated research concepts and has become a metaphor for the resilience potential of biographical learning processes in modernised modern societies. A basic theoretical foundation has so far been lacking. This article attempts to provide such a foundation. It first introduces the quite sophisticated conception of ‘biography’ and emphasises the dialectical tension between structure and emergence (1), then turns to the challenge of describing ‘the social’ from the perspective of the acting subject – the ‘biographicity of the social’, as it were (2), and ends with a reflection on biographical learning (3) that overcomes its own limits (‘transitional learning’).

A field experiment was conducted in Kolaram village, P. Velur Taluk, Namakkal district to evolve a suitable weed management programme for irrigated sesame variety CO 1 during summer season (March - June) 2018. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD), replicated thrice with ten treatments viz., unweeded control, hand weeding twice (15 and 30 days after sowing (DAS)), pre emergence application of alachlor 1.5 kg ha-1, fluometuron 0.9 kg ha-1, post emergence application of propaquizafop 0.05 kg ha-1, quizalofop ethyl 0.05 kg ha-1 and combinations of pre and post emergence herbicides application. From the results, it is concluded that pre emergence application of alachlor 1.5 kg ha-1 on 3 DAS + post emergence application of quizalofop ethyl 0.05 kg ha-1 on 21 DAS was an efficient and economically feasible package to manage the weeds and to realize better returns from irrigated sesame.

This paper is an extended Polish version of the article Emergenz, Spezifizitӓt und Entropie im Lichte der anthropozentrischen Linguistik, originally written in German and submitted for publication in the Germanica Wratislaviensia 144. First, a preliminary model of generating (specialized) knowledge will be proposed, which was built across anthropocentric linguistics, the concept of emergence and selected research in the field of neurobiology. The model is aimed at offering a possible solution to the problem of interdependence between human language skills and knowledge generating. Second, a redefinition of the terms specificity and entropy in the light of the anthropocentric theory of human languages will be outlined. It has to be highlighted that the present considerations are merely a theoretical draft which requires a more solid linguistic, philosophical and neurobiological foundation.

The article is an attempt to outline new methodological perspectives on performance studies which derive from Stephen Greenblatt’s Cultural Mobility Manifesto, published in 2010. It analyses the concept of “contact zones”, introduced for the first time in the humanities by Mary Luise Pratt in 1993, and  subsequently developed  by Stephen Greenblatt and Donna J. Haraway, demonstrating how it reformulates the present understanding of “performance”. According to the author of the article, the contact zones, intended as a space of encounter of heterogenic subjects, allow scholars to have a closer look at emergent strategies, meanings, and contingencies of the present cultural reality. To explain her argument, the author analyses two study cases: the performance Exhibit B by Brett Bailey from 2013, and an exhibition of photographer Pieter Ugo, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue SeaatMuseuColeçãoBerardo, Lisbon (05.07.2018 – 07.10.2018).  
Artykuł jest próbą nakreślenia metodologicznych perspektyw jakie rysują się przed badaczami performansów artystycznych w związku z ogłoszonym przez Stephena Greenblatta Manifestem kulturowej mobilności w 2010 roku. Autorka poddaje w nim analizie koncepcję stref kontaktu wprowadzoną do humanistyki przez Mary Luise Pratt, rozwiniętą następnie przez Stephena Greenblatta oraz Donnę J. Haraway, pokazując w jaki sposób pozwala ona przeformułować obowiązujące do tej pory w obrębie performatyki rozumienie pojęcia "przedstawienia" (performansu). Sugeruje, że poprzez strefy kontaktu, rozumiane jako przestrzeń wzajemnego spotkania i redefiniowania się uczestniczących w niej heterogenicznych podmiotów jako badacze kultury zyskujemy możliwość nowego sposobu oglądu zastanej rzeczywistości kulturowej i poznawania jej emergentnych znaczeń. Swoje hipotezy autorka rozwija w oparciu o analizę dwóch przykładów: performansu Exhibit B, Bretta Bailey’a z 2013 roku  oraz  wystawy fotografii Pietera Ugo, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea w Museu Coleção Berardo, Lizbona (05.07.2018 – 07.10.2018).

Powstanie zespołów mobilnych wiąże się z reformą psychiatrycznej opieki zdrowotnej i zmianie modelu leczenia z udzielania opieki w dużych szpitalach psychiatrycznych na rzecz działań realizowanych na poziomie społeczności lokalnej. Zespoły mobilne uzupełniają model podstawowy o usługi docierające do osób, które bez ich wsparcia mogłyby nie uzyskać pomocy, przez co są bardzo istotnym i innowacyjnym elementem środowiskowego modelu opieki psychiatrycznej, pełniącym wiodącą rolę w procesie zdrowienia osób z doświadczeniem kryzysu psychicznego. Głównym celem działalności zespołów mobilnych jest mobilizowanie osób z doświadczeniem kryzysu psychicznego do rozwiązywania swoich problemów w sytuacjach, w których jest to możliwe i osiągalne. W artykule przedstawiono kontekst historyczno-kulturowy wraz z rolą zespołów mobilnych w opiece psychiatrycznej. Przedstawiono  korzyści płynące z udzielenia pomocy bezpośrednio w środowisku klienta oraz scharakteryzowano zadania zespołów mobilnych oraz ich współpracę z otoczeniem społecznym i asystentami zdrowienia.
The emergence of mobile teams is associated with the reform of psychiatric health care and a change in the treatment model from providing care in large psychiatric hospitals to activities implemented at the local community level. Mobile teams complement the basic model with services that reach people who, without their support, might not receive help, which makes them a very important and innovative element of the community model of psychiatric care, playing a leading role in the recovery process of people experiencing a mental crisis. The main goal of the activity of mobile teams is to mobilize people with the experience of mental crisis to solve their problems in situations where it is possible and achievable. The article presents the historical and cultural context along with the role of mobile teams in psychiatric care. The benefits of providing assistance directly in the client's environment are presented, and the tasks of mobile teams and their cooperation with the social environment and healing assistants are characterized.

Eragrostis tenuifolia is a weed species that is gaining ground in Brazil. This weed occurs in pastures, grasslands, crop fields, and roadsides. The objective of this study was to examine the effects of different environmental factors on E. tenuifolia seed germination and seedling emergence. The optimum constant temperature for germination was around 35–30°C. It was also found that 85% of seeds germinated under a 30/20°C alternate temperature regime. Light appears to have a positive effect on seed germination. No seedlings emerged when seeds were buried 3 cm or deeper. The results suggested that E. tenuifolia has the potential to spread into pastures and in no-tillage crop systems in Brazil. Measures such as the use of cover crops and/or soil cultivation can be used to limit germination and seedling emergence, respectively.

Roger W. Sperry (1913–1994) received the Nobel Prize for Physiology in 1981 for his outstanding scientific achievements in connection with the study of people with severed brain commissures. Sperry linked the results of his research to philosophical considerations pertaining to the conscious mind of human beings and its place in the natural sciences. He was interested in the philosophical question of whether or not the severing of the cerebral hemispheres constituted a violation of the unity of consciousness. Sperry’s explanatory account of mind-body (mind-brain) interaction forms part of a broadly construed theory of emergent interactionism – one that also purports to guarantee the unity of consciousness. In this article, I first present an intellectual profile of Sperry, outlining the evolution of his philosophical-scientific analyses. I then outline the emergence and flourishing of theories of emergence, along with the elements essentially associated with them. Using this as a basis, I go on to consider Sperry’s account of emergent interaction more closely, focusing on his understanding of downward causation. In conclusion, I show how his theory corresponds to a version of emergent interactionism, and seek to address some criticisms leveled against it. I also aim to establish how far this theory can be said to answer the question of the conscious character of mental states.

The most advantageous time for collecting fruits of the common hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna Jacq.) falls on October, when they are fully ripe. The stones extracted from the fruits must be dried at room temperature to the moisture content of about 10%. The dormancy of the common hawthorn seeds can be overcome by their stratification in a moist medium in one of the three thermal regimes: - 25°/3°C (16 weeks at 25°C followed by 15-18 weeks at 3°C, i.e. to the time when the first seedlings start to appear) - 20~30°/3°C (16 weeks at 20~30°C (16+8 hrs/day) followed by 15-18 weeks at 3°C, i.e. to the time when first seedlings start to appear) - 20~30°/3°C (16 weeks at 20~30°C (24+24 hrs) followed by 15-18 weeks at 3°C, i.e. to the time when first seedlings start to appear) Having been stratified, the seeds germinate vigorously (in 3-5 weeks) and at a high percentage at temperatures of 3~10°, 3~15°, 3~20° and 3~25°C, (16+8 hrs/day) and the seedlings emerge at 3~20°C (16+8 hrs/day) in 4-6 weeks. Storage for one year at -3°C in the case of the seeds dried after harvest to the moisture content of 10% does not reduce their germination capacity. Stones scarification in concentrated sulphuric acid for 120 minutes followed by stratification at 3°C has an adverse effect on seed emergence at the temperature 3~20°C (16+8 hrs/day). It is recommended that stratified seeds should be sown into the still cool soil at the end of March or the beginning of April, as the increased temperature induces the secondary dormancy in seeds.

Effects of several stratification variants on seed dormancy breaking were compared in Crataegus submollis Sarg. (hairy cockspur-thorn or Quebec hawthorn). Ripe seeds were collected (in October), cleaned, and dried to a moisture content of 7–12%. Seed dormancy in this species was broken most effectively by warm-cold stratification of nutlets, in a substrate or without any substrate, at 15~25°/3°C or 20~30°/3°C, i.e. with a cyclically alternating warm stage (16+8 hrs or 24+24 hrs/cycle) lasting 16–20 weeks, followed the cold stage lasting ca. 20 weeks, i.e. till the appearance of the first germinating seeds. After stratification, emergence rate is equally high (ca 50%) at cyclically alternating temperatures of 3~15°C and 3~20°C (16+8 hrs). Chemical scarification of nutlets in 96% sulphuric acid for 3 hrs, followed by warm-cold stratification at 20~30°/3°C, with a short, 4-week warm stage, also ensures a high emergence rate (58%). Seed desiccation (in nutlets) slowly to a moisture content of 10–12%, after stratification in a substrate or without any substrate as well as after scarification, results in a reduced emergence rate, especially if seeds are dried to the lower moisture content. Seed storage (in nutlets after drying to a moisture content of 10%) for 10 years at –3°C, does not decrease the emergence rate (93%) after stratification at 20~30°/3°C in a substrate, with a cyclically alternating warm stage (24+24 h) lasting 16 weeks.

Laboratory experiments were made to determine the optimum conditions for dormancy breaking in the midland hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata (Poir.) DC. = C. oxyacantha L.). Its small applelike fruits should be collected when they are fully ripe (in Poland in October). The nutlets extracted from the fruits must be dried at room temperature to the moisture content of 9–13%. The dormancy of midland hawthorn seeds can be overcome by: (1) stratification in a moist medium: 20~30°C/3°C, 16–20 weeks at 20~30°C (16+8 hrs or 24+24 hrs) followed by 16–18 weeks at 3°C, i.e. to the time when first radicles start to appear; or (2) chemical scarification in concentrated sulphuric acid for 2 or 3 hrs, followed by warm stratification at 27.5°C or 20~30°C for 4 weeks and cold stratification at 3°C, lasting 19–21 weeks, i.e. to the time when first radicles start to appear. The stratified seeds germinate vigorously (in 3–5 weeks) and at a high percentage at temperatures of 3~15°C or 3~20°C (16+8 hrs) and all seedlings emerge in such conditions about 4–6 weeks after sowing. Seed germination after stratification or scarification can be stopped by partial desiccation of seeds. Seed desiccation after stratification to the moisture content of 10–13% and sealed storage at –3°C for one year do not reduce seed germination and seedling emergence rates of the previously pretreated seeds. Storage for 20 months at –3°C of seeds dried after harvest to the moisture content of 14% does not reduce their germination and seedling emergence.

After stratification, emergence rate is equally high (ca 76%) at cyclically alternating temperatures of 3~15°C or 3~20°C (16+8 hrs). Chemical scarification of nutlets in 96% sulphuric acid for 2 hrs, followed by warm-cold stratification at 20~30°/3°C, with a short, 4-weeks warm stage, also ensures a high emergence rate (85–93%). Seed desiccation (in nutlets) slowly to moisture content of 12–14%, after stratification in a substrate or scarification does not reduce the seedling emergence of seeds. Emergence decreased when seeds were desiccated after stratification without any substrate. Results provide new methods of breaking of dormancy and high germination and emergence of hard-coated Crataegus seeds in controlled conditions.

Opis:
Seeds of numerous trees and shrubs require specific environmental conditions to initiate ger- mination. In the genus Cotoneaster, seeds often remain dormant in the ground for 1–2 years. Therefore, knowledge of the method of breaking seed dormancy under controlled conditions is needed. Various tem- peratures of stratification and chemical scarification were tested in this work to break deep double seed dormancy under controlled conditions in C. divaricatus, C. horizontalis and C. hupehensis. Fruits were collected in October, when they were fully ripe. The seeds extracted from the fruits were air-dried at room temper- ature to a moisture content of approximately 10%. Fresh and air-dried seeds were subjected to different variants of cold stratification or warm-cold stratification with different alternating temperatures. The hard seeds of C. hupehensis were also scarified in concentrated sulfuric acid, followed by warm stratification. A seed was counted as germinated when a 1–3 mm long radicle appeared. After stratification (ca. 5% seed ger- mination), seeds were tested for germination and emergence. The dormancy of air-dried C. divaricatus and C. horizontalis seeds was broken most effectively by stratification for 12–16 weeks at 20°/30°C (16/8 hours), followed by 15–18 weeks at 3°C. Scarification in concentrated sulfuric acid for 3 hours followed by warm- cold stratification at 20°/30°C (4 weeks) and 3°C (18 weeks) resulted in the highest germination (48%) of C. hupehensis seeds at 3°/20°C (16/8 hours). In our experiment, we demonstrated that the physiological and physical dormancy of Cotoneaster species can be broken under controlled conditions with stratification or stratification combined with scarification methods

Opis:
A metaheuristic proposed by us recently, Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) hybridized with socio-cognitive inspirations, turned out to generate interesting results compared to classic ACO. Even though it does not always find better solutions to the considered problems, it usually finds sub-optimal solutions usually. Moreover, instead of a trial-and-error approach to configure the parameters of the ant species in the population, in our approach, the actual structure of the population emerges from predefined species-to-species ant migration strategies. Experimental results of our approach are compared against classic ACO and selected socio-cognitive versions of this algorithm.

Opis:
This article analyzes selected “speculative gestures” (Debaise, Stengers) in contemporary Polish performative arts which stage speculative ecologies. Speculative ecologies are different ways of thinking about ecology, alternative to the modern concept of nature as inert matter separated from humans and bereft of all agency. The analysis aims to unravel some nonanthropocentric modes of distributing agency between humans and nonhumans and ways of knowing they posit. The article focuses specifically on selcted hybrid projects emerging from a fusion of artistic strategies, scientific protocols and new technology design. Examples discussed here demonstrate how the initiators of such projects at the intersection of nature, culture and technology perform three types of speculative ecologies: by staging polyphonic assemblages (Lowenhaupt-Ting) as contingent encounters between human and nonhuman lifeways, by questioning received notions of natural environment, and by registering the agency of abiotic existents as proper ecological actors.
