A field experiment was conducted in Kolaram village, P. Velur Taluk, Namakkal district to evolve a suitable weed management programme for irrigated sesame variety CO 1 during summer season (March - June) 2018. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD), replicated thrice with ten treatments viz., unweeded control, hand weeding twice (15 and 30 days after sowing (DAS)), pre emergence application of alachlor 1.5 kg ha-1, fluometuron 0.9 kg ha-1, post emergence application of propaquizafop 0.05 kg ha-1, quizalofop ethyl 0.05 kg ha-1 and combinations of pre and post emergence herbicides application. From the results, it is concluded that pre emergence application of alachlor 1.5 kg ha-1 on 3 DAS + post emergence application of quizalofop ethyl 0.05 kg ha-1 on 21 DAS was an efficient and economically feasible package to manage the weeds and to realize better returns from irrigated sesame.

This study was designed to identify the response of oil and protein content to non-heritable variation of seed size in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.). The experiment was conducted at Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences, Gorgan, Iran in 2005. The results showed that germination and emergence increased linearity with seed size and R2 of these relationships were 92 and 89%, respectively. This means that larger seed had higher potential of germination and emergence. Also, there was a strong linear relationship between seed weight and oil content. Seed weight provided a better indication of oil content (R2=0.78) than protein content (R2=0.43). There are no considerable relationship between seed size and protein content of seed...

This article focuses on methodology, and the deliberations presented herein are ai-med at presenting how emergent phenomena are generated. A slightly different perspective on the idea of existence of God and on history leads to a conclusion that religion is more and more often replaced by history. This has its practical repercussions, as the lack of philosophical debates regarding the impact of science on faith and transcendence hinders and sometimes even prevents intellectual development of the society. It is because discussions on abstract issues break mental barriers, thus opposing a schematic and stereotypical way of thinking. Post-modernism is characterised by the fact that more and more people with a limited knowledge express their views on issues of vital importance to the society. The conclusion: citizens of a democratic country who look out to the future should be inspired to hold discussions, debates and disputations, which will give them a sense of belonging to the society.

Damping-off disease caused by Pythium ultimum can kill both germinating seeds and young seedlings and cause considerable damage in safflower cultivation. An estimation of heritability lets safflower breeders determine the most effective method for improving seedling emergence in soils  infected  with P. ultimum, the causal agent of seed rot and damping-off. Two cycles of selection were performed to estimate the realized heritability of resistance to the pathogen in five safflower populations. Undamaged seedlings were selected as resistant individuals and were kept to produce seed. The results showed that selection for two consecutive generations increased the emergence of seedlings in Pythium-infected soil from 46 to 53 %. The heritability estimates varied between 1.72 and 77.66 % over the genotypes and environments, in inverse proportion to the severity of the disease. Estimates of heritabilities showed that genes conferring resistance to P. ultimum in safflower are highly heritable and would respond to selection breeding, particularly in some of the studied genotypes, like Isfahan and Zarghan259. However,  different breeding methods must be explored for other genotypes.

New worldview that arose from a number of important findings of science, including the Darwinian theory of evolution as well as the Big Bang theory, calls for a redefinition of the human place in the world of nature. Human mind, with its characteristic self-consciousness, is facing a difficult problem of understanding of his own nature as well as clarifying its relationship with the realm of the physical world. According to Philip Clayton, the correct answer to the question of the relation of mind to body (mind-body problem) is given by the concept of emergentism. While taking his arguments from modern science and philosophy, Clayton claims that the mind – causally active mental properties – is a valuable result of the evolution that has occurred through the emergence, and its special feature, i.e. rationality, sheds new light on attempts of the ultimate understanding of reality.

This article analyzes selected “speculative gestures” (Debaise, Stengers) in contemporary Polish performative arts which stage speculative ecologies. Speculative ecologies are different ways of thinking about ecology, alternative to the modern concept of nature as inert matter separated from humans and bereft of all agency. The analysis aims to unravel some nonanthropocentric modes of distributing agency between humans and nonhumans and ways of knowing they posit. The article focuses specifically on selcted hybrid projects emerging from a fusion of artistic strategies, scientific protocols and new technology design. Examples discussed here demonstrate how the initiators of such projects at the intersection of nature, culture and technology perform three types of speculative ecologies: by staging polyphonic assemblages (Lowenhaupt-Ting) as contingent encounters between human and nonhuman lifeways, by questioning received notions of natural environment, and by registering the agency of abiotic existents as proper ecological actors.

This paper is an extended Polish version of the article Emergenz, Spezifizitӓt und Entropie im Lichte der anthropozentrischen Linguistik, originally written in German and submitted for publication in the Germanica Wratislaviensia 144. First, a preliminary model of generating (specialized) knowledge will be proposed, which was built across anthropocentric linguistics, the concept of emergence and selected research in the field of neurobiology. The model is aimed at offering a possible solution to the problem of interdependence between human language skills and knowledge generating. Second, a redefinition of the terms specificity and entropy in the light of the anthropocentric theory of human languages will be outlined. It has to be highlighted that the present considerations are merely a theoretical draft which requires a more solid linguistic, philosophical and neurobiological foundation.

A standard solution regarding business process management automation in enterprises is the use of workflow management systems working by the Rule-Based Reasoning approach. In such systems, the process model which is designed entirely before the implementation has to meet all needs deriving from business activity of the organization. In practice, it means that great limitations arise in process control abilities, especially in the dynamic business environment. Therefore, new kinds of workflow systems may help which typically work in more agile way e.g. following the Case-Based Reasoning approach. The paper shows another possible solution – the use of emergence theory which indicates among other conditions required to fulfill stimulation of the system (for example the business environment) to run grass-roots processes that lead to arising of new more sophisticated organizing forms. The paper also points the using opportunity of such techniques as the processing of complex events to fulfill key conditions pointed by the emergence theory.

Early sowing in cotton is important for obtaining a high and qualiy yield. Since cotton prefers high temperatures to have a good stand establisment, this work is important to determine better performing genotypes or to promote germination and emergence at low temperatures (<20°C). This research aimed to increase seed germination rate and seed vigour under cold stress conditions. Two cotton genotypes belonging to G. hirsutum L. species (Aydin-110 and Paymaster-2379) were primed with PEG-6000 (200, 300, 400 giL), KN03 (2, 3, 4%), KH2P04 (0.3, 0.4, 0.5 M), NaCl (2, 3, 4%) or Mannitol (2, 4, 6%) to determine the best priming medium and its best amount. After priming, seeds were germinated in germination cabin at cold (18°C) and warm (30° C) temperatures and some characteristics (germination rates, radicle length, hypocotyl length and seedling length) were analyzed. Priming with KN03 (4% or 2%) was found to result in the highest germination rates in both cotton genotypes. The seeds of the genotypes were also primed with 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) (1, 10, 25 mg/L), gibberellic acid (GA3) (100, 250, 500 µM), methyljasmonate (MeJA) (1, 3, 5 µM),acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) (1, 10, 100 µM) or kinetin (1, 5, 10 mg/L) added to KN03 (4%) medium to choose the most effective plant growth regulator (PGR) application and its dose. PGRs were observed to have reverse effects on germination rate. Finally, emergence test was conducted with KN03 (4%) and KN03 (2%) using metabolic chill test, and some traits (radicle length, radicle weight, hypocotyllength, hypocotyl weight, seedling length, seedling fresh weight and seedling dry weight) were examined. Our results suggested that priming with KN03 (2%) might be an effecient way to have vigourous cotton plants under the cold stress.

Opis:
Quality seed nuts are germane to propagation of the cashew plant. Seed nut fraction and genotypes have been identified to influence seed quality of crop plant. Unexpectedly, seed size effect has not been well documented in Brazilian and local biotypes of cashew grown in Nigeria. An experiment was initiated to investigate the effect of three nut sizes and two biotypes of cashew on seed quality (physical and physiological) traits. Seed nut were collected from three cashew plants of the same age of each of the biotypes and were allowed to stay for 60 days after collection. The experiment was carried out in a factorial arrangement laid out in a completely randomized design with three replicates using two factors (nut size and biotypes) in 2011 cropping season in both laboratory and screen house tests. Data were collected on physical characters such as seed length, seed width, 100 seed weight and seed imbibition rate while physiological characters were seed germination and early vigour traits. Data obtained were analysed statistically using Tukey HSD test at 5% probability level. The result revealed that some of the characters were significantly different from one another. Seed nut fraction and biotype had considerable effect on seed length, seed width, seed imbibition rate and 100 seed weight. The two factors (nut size and biotype) interaction had profound effect on seed width only. On seed physiological quality, biotype effect was significant on seedling fresh and dry weights and seedling growth rate whereas seed nut size had considerable effect on seed germination, seedling vigour index, seedling fresh weight and seedling growth rate. The interaction effect of nut size and biotype recorded significant effect on the above four characters. Brazilian biotype had superior physical characters (seed length, width and weight) but with low imbibitions rate while medium and large nut sizes gave the highest seed germination and seedling vigour. Also, medium and large nuts had the highest seedling fresh weight whereas the highest seedling growth rate was recorded with small size seed. However, large, medium and small nut sizes of local biotype had the highest imbibition rate, whereas small, medium and large nut size of Brazilian biotype gave the highest 100 seed weight. On seedling emergence, large nuts of local biotype recorded the highest seedling emergence and seedling vigour index. Medium nuts of the two biotypes of cashew are recommended for cashew seed multiplication. Further research on physiology of cashew nut sizes during storage and osmo and hydro priming treatment effect are necessary and therefore advocated.

Omówione zostają prace Stephena C. ‘Biographicity’ is a concept that has been discussed in international adult education for more than 30 years. It has stimulated research concepts and has become a metaphor for the resilience potential of biographical learning processes in modernised modern societies. A basic theoretical foundation has so far been lacking. This article attempts to provide such a foundation. It first introduces the quite sophisticated conception of ‘biography’ and emphasises the dialectical tension between structure and emergence (1), then turns to the challenge of describing ‘the social’ from the perspective of the acting subject – the ‘biographicity of the social’, as it were (2), and ends with a reflection on biographical learning (3) that overcomes its own limits (‘transitional learning’).

This paper sheds light on intersections between teaching and research in the Cybercartographic Residential Schools Land Memory Atlas (RSLMA), which is the central output of the Residential Schools Land Memory Mapping Project (RSLMMP). Building on previous work in Cybercartography, the RSLMMP has further contributed to the integration of research and education and the emergence of new research and education relationships. Viewing the atlas as a project output comprised of iterative processes along multiple dimensions allows us to appreciate limitations as challenges for further iterations, including new related projects and ongoing volunteer work with students. In addition to participating in the national response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Calls to Action, this project - including the atlas - provides a model for a unique blend of teaching and research and the basis for further and new collaborations with a variety of different partners, including Residential School survivors. As a reconciliation project, the Residential Schools Land Memory Atlas further contributes to the intercultural bridge building aims of its parent, the Lake Huron Treaty Atlas, as it forges on in new directions.

Moreover, instead of a trial-and-error approach to configure the parameters of the ant species in the population, in our approach, the actual structure of the population emerges from predefined species-to-species ant migration strategies. Experimental results of our approach are compared against classic ACO and selected socio-cognitive versions of this algorithm.

In this study, the effect of the emergence angle of a source array on acoustic transmission in a typical shallow sea is simulated and analyzed. The formula we derived for the received signal based on the Normal Mode indicates that the signal is determined by the beamform on the modes of all sources and the samplings of all modes at the receiving depth. Two characteristics of the optimal emergence angle (OEA) are obtained and explained utilizing the aforementioned derived formula. The observed distributions of transmission loss (TL) for different sources and receivers are consistent with the obtained characteristics. The results of this study are valuable for the development and design of active sonar detection.

Bringing a complex systems perspective to bear on classroom-oriented research challenges researchers to think differently, seeing the classroom ecology as one dynamic system nested in a hierarchy of such systems at different levels of scale, all of which are spatially and temporally situated. This article begins with an introduction to complex dynamic systems theory, in which challenges to traditional ways of conducting classroom research are interwoven. It concludes with suggestions for research methods that are more consistent with the theory. Research does not become easier when approached from a complex systems perspective, but it has the virtue of reflecting the way the world works.

In this piece I argue for posthumanism-based deliberation and education toward just global ecologies. I propose posthumanism’s nonanthropocentric ethical approach and conceptual framework enables a processual multiperspectival account of rich, variegated bionetworks and their organic and inorganic materials’ interrelationships and interdependencies. Among reciprocal studies and methodologies, I consider Mitchell’s (2004) integrative pluralism in tandem with a developmental systems paradigm of co-emergence to acknowldge the dynamic epistemological continuum of complex ecologies. In terms of specific embedded learning experiences, I briefly discuss Lind’s Konstanz Method of Dilemma Discussion (KMDD)® as one specific approach in which to cultivate democratic capacities whilst embracing the destabilizing-stabilizing tendencies of posthumanistic praxis for inclusive flourishing.

Opis:
In the history of linguistics there have been crucial moments when those of us interestedin language have essentially changed the way we study our subject. We standnow at such a moment. In this presentation I will review the history of linguistics inorder to highlight some past important changes in the field, and then turn to wherewe stand now. Some things that we thought we knew have turned out not to be true, like the systematic, logical nature of languages. Other things that we had not suspected, like a universal underlying emergent pattern for all the features of a language, arenow evident. This emergent pattern is fractal, that is, we can observe the same distributionalpattern in frequency profiles for linguistic variants at every level of scale inour analysis. We also have hints that time, as the persistence of a preference for particularvariants of features, is a much more important part of our language than wehad previously believed. We need to explore the new realities of language as we nowunderstand them, chief among them the idea that patterned variation, not logical system,is the central factor in human speech. In order to account for what we now understand,we need to get used to new methods of study and presentation, and placenew emphasis on different communities and groups of speakers. Because the underlyingpattern of language is fractal, we need to examine the habits of every group ofspeakers at every location for themselves, as opposed to our previous emphasis onoverall grammars. We need to make our studies much more local, as opposed toglobal. We do still want to make grammars and to understand language in globalterms, but such generalizations need to follow from what we can now see as the patternof language as it is actually used.
