    The article examines selected works by representatives of the Polish-Ukrainian literary borderlandof the nineteenth century (Michal Czajkowski, Michal Grabowski, Zenon Fisz and PaulinSwiecicki) for the presence of these elements in a local myth. The definition of myth, its determinantsand functions assumed by Ernst Cassirer’s and Mircea Eliade’s conception, which, as seems,to best reflect the nature and structure of local myth, recorded in the works of these writers.Selected and described such elements of local myth, as its reproducibility, dichotomy character,sacred and Christian folklore and timelessness. It was shown, that in order to create this mythmade reinterpretation of history, reality combined with imagination, literature with folklore, pagancustoms with Christian faith.

    Artykuł stanowi relację z przeprowadzonych zajęć z doktorantami literaturoznawstwa poświęconych zagadnieniu świętej przestrzeni w Prawdzie starowieku Stanisława Vincenza w odniesieniu do terminów religioznawczych: homo religiosus, sacrum, profanum, religia kosmiczna, którymi posługiwał się Mircea Eliade. Autorka podjęła się próby odczytania tekstu literackiego za pomocą terminologii filozofii religii. Konfrontacja ta odsłoniła nowe możliwości interpretacyjne prozy Vincenza, a także ujawniła potencjał tkwiący w interdyscyplinarnym podejściu do czytania literatury.  
    The article is a report of classes conducted with PhD students of literary studies devoted to the issue of the sacred space in Prawda starowieku by Stanisław Vincenz in relation to religious terms: homo religiosus, sacrum, profanum, cosmic religion, used by Mircea Eliade. The author undertook an attempt to read the literary text using the terminology of philosophy of religion. This confrontation exposed the new possibilities of interpreting Vincenz’s prose, and revealed the potential of interdisciplinary approach to reading literature.

    In contemporary theological debate much attention is devoting to the interdisciplinary research. Theology as science based on philosophy. Today a special attention is to existential aspects of life. More an experience than the theological description or written reflection. However in order not to simplify theology, it is worthwhile leading and interpreting what religious studies above all widely understood and psychology are offering. The 20th age is not only a new look at theology, inspired by the 2nd Vatican Council but also an intense development of religious studies sciences, but first of all history of the religion with chief with its representative – Mircea Eliade. With topic always current in all sciences, but first of all in theology and religious studies, there are a problem of the connection of the man and women. Two beings, two people and at the same time the great gap between them, two quite different worlds, and the one physical, bodily, and the one psychological, emotional as well as spiritual, religious. These two beings are two opposites which are pulling themselves one another, they are searching for themselves and they are uniting with themselves, and are becoming something with one thing. And so it is possible to look at the connection of the man and women in categories similarities of opposites, that is as coincidentia oppositorum. We will examine the dissimilarity of the man and the woman at first, next we will see what he is coincidentia oppositorum and how this principle is applying to the topic of the marriage as well as androgyne. We will look for justifying the principle in the last part coincidentia oppositorum in the biblical theology.

    The subject of the article is Elizaveta Stishova's film Suleiman Mountain, the action of which focuses on the Kyrgyz mountain, surrounded by religious veneration. The title place is treated as a spatial hierophany, that is, according to Mircea Eliade's concept, a place where and through which the sacred is revealed. The text will analyze the film's space-time and its symbolic dimension, and the characters' relations with the title place, especially the relationship between women and the mountain and its mythical character.

    Mircea Eliade wprowadził w przestrzeń badań religioznawczych pojęcie axis mundi. Oznacza ono przyjęcie istnienia świętego, niezmiennego „centrum” – stałego punktu odniesienia, warunkującego postrzeganie i interpretowanie świata. Łączy ono różne wymiary rzeczywistości i daje jej całościową wizję. Axis mundi jest utożsamiane z wieloma elementami świata. Najczęściej jest nim dom – rozumiany jako miejsce narodzin, zamieszkania i rozwoju. Takie ujęcie pozwala odnieść tę kategorię do poglądów Franciszka Mantheya i stworzyć spójną wizję jego teologii małych ojczyzn.
    Mircea Eliade introduced the concept of axis mundi into the fi eld of religious studies. It signifi es the assumption of the existence of a sacred, unchanging ‘centre’ – a fi xed point of reference, conditioning the perception and interpretation of the world. It connects various dimensions of reality and gives an overall vision of it. The axis mundi is identifi ed with many of the elements that make up the human world. Most often it is the home – the place of birth, residence and occupation. This perspective makes it possible to relate this category to the views of Francis Manthey and create a coherent vision of his theology of small homelands.

    This essay is a proposal of such an interpretation of an artistic project that constantly balances on the border of meanings arising, in this case, from the relationship (or even tensions) between the content, form and arrangement of photographs. Viewing the album is treated here as a task immersed in both scientific reflection and – referring to Carl Gustaw Jung – as experiencing (also that which escapes rationality) and feeling, as Mircea Eliade would say, as a pre-reflection grasp, and in addition, as Kantian Ehrfahrung also immersed in memory structures. Entering the ground of discursive spaces, related, among others to anthropology as well as symbolic reflection arising from the reception of the works of Jung and Eliade, is here above all, an impulse for analysis, one of the spaces for asking questions, expanding contexts and following one’s own paths of associations and emotions, inevitably, dependent on both a professional and emotional view. The photographs gathered in the album entitled Echoes Shades (2020), taken over the past five years, illustrate the author’s ‘mystical’ journey – his search for a ‘common magical thinking’ this time in the African Omo Valley, Indonesian region of Tana Toraja.

    Transformations are not only conditioned by facts encompassing narrower or wider panoramas: from concentrating on death and one (political) role (the ode of Horace), through recalling Cleopatra’s mature life and love (the drama of Shakespeare), to creating an image embracing the heroine’s whole life with its numerous roles, but as a mother and a daughter in the first place, because even her lovers resemble a father and a child (the fictional biography of Karen Essex). Above all, they appear to be more connected with different attitudes towards universal references lying within human cognitive abilities. Horace’s didactic opposition of contradictory patterns leads to the victory of one of them — and it is a linear pattern, as an equivalent of modern myth, which is accepted by the author himself. In Shakespeare, it takes a form of tragedy resulting from the fragmentary character of each pattern, one of which introduces change (archaic myth) and the other constancy (modern myth), and from a painful attempt to combine them. In Essex, the vision of the world in which archaic myth, strongly represented by a child, triumphs is utopian. Irrespective of the differences, all the works realize the essential role played by images developed by heroes, and especially by authors, in human cognition

    The present article aims at a comparative analysis amongst four legends constructed around the same myth i.e. the myth of construction that requires a sacrifice: the Romanian ballad about the construction of the monastery in Argeș, Wallachia; the Hungarian ballad about the construction of the fortress of Deva in Transylvania, Romania; the Welsh legend of Dynas Emrys; and the Georgian legend about the construction of the Surami fortress. The legends represent the sacrifice in different ways. In the Romanian ballad, a woman and her child are walled in a church; in the Hungarian version, a woman is burnt, and her ashes are walled in; in the Welsh legend, the sacrifice is avoided, and in the Georgian one, it is transformed into self-sacrifice. Moreover, through a comparative analysis of different versions of the Bible, we shall emphasise the importance of the building of the city of Jericho, the significance of curse and sacrifice in both the beginning and the proliferation of the myth. For our research, we shall use the methodology devised by Mircea Eliade in his book about the myth of sacrifice ("Meșterul manole. Studii de etnologie și mitologie"), as well as the works of Professor Trumbull, "The threshold covenant" and "The blood covenant". One of the main conclusions of our article is that nothing that is human-made has a soul, and it can only last if it only acquires a soul. Hence the need for sacrifice that has been part of human history since times immemorial. Any revisitation of this myth can only bring people together and thus emphasise the things people and peoples have in common, and that can only lead to a better understanding of the Other.

    Artykuł porusza temat przestrzeni jako miejsca, obrazu i inspiracji zmiany psychologicznej. Jest to kwestia istotna dla artystów obserwujących twórczo oraz projektujących przestrzeń, aby mogli tworzyć nie tylko miejsce w świecie wewnętrznym, lecz także i wewnętrznym. Sztuka projektowania i obserwowania przestrzeni może stać się rytuałem przejścia (inicjacji). Obrzędem, w którym główną rolę odgrywa przestrzeń liminalna – miejsce przemiany, czekania, przebywania na progu, w przejściu między dotychczasowym życiem a jakąś jego nową nieznaną formą, „bycie pomiędzy” (betwixt and between). Tutaj uwidacznia się rdzeń samego siebie, własnego ja – mój dom we mnie. Fotografia może stać się obrazem i asystentką rytuału przejścia, analogicznie do procesu psychoterapii. Artykuł prezentuje autorskie fotografie przestrzeni liminalnej, które obrazując próg, „bycie pomiędzy”, „zarówno to, jak i to”, inspirują do opisanego „wielopunktowego”, a raczej „przestrzennego” spostrzegania świata i siebie.
