Opis:
Engine braking, just when the vehicle consumes no fuel, is an important component of the energy balance. In such states, the bus loses its cumulated kinetic and potential energies but alternators recover a portion of these energies into electricity. Simultaneously, electricity consumption in the diesel-engine city bus is a key component of the overall energy balance. A total energy output of receivers can be more than 4 kW. This paper presents the research results on performance of a serial bus driving varied urban routes. The recorded and investigated parameters include a total amount fuel and electricity consumed and an amount of electricity generated. Engine braking states were calculated with a created algorithm. On average, 17% of electricity was generated by bus engine braking. The research results and investigation refer to the entire year.

Opis:
Aim/purpose – Low and fluctuating income coupled with epileptic supply of electricity and rising demand for electricity make determinants of electricity consumption an important issue in developing economies such as Nigeria; given that electricity is essential for the development of any economy. This paper, therefore, examines the determinants of electricity consumption in Nigeria with emphasis on income per capita, number of electricity customers, and electricity distribution shortages. Design/methodology/approach – The study is anchored on the Utility Maximising Behaviour of consumers given their level of income. Data were sourced from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) database and World Development Indicator, 2018. An Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) technique was used in estimating the factors influencing electricity consumption in Nigeria over the period between 1981 and 2017. Findings – The result reveals that the major propellers of electricity consumption in the long-run in Nigeria are per capita income, population per square kilometre, number of electricity customers as well as electricity shortages. The result refutes the hypothesis that electricity consumption increases with the rising level of income. Electricity consumption increased with the increasing number of population in a given area and the number of electricity customers, while electricity shortages distribution has a differential effect in the short run and long run. Research implications/limitations – Lack of reliable household level data capturing per unit price of electricity, and other determinants of electricity consumption in Nigeria implies the analysis is to be carried out on the macro level. A micro-level analysis will be more beneficial in arriving at clearer estimates of demand for electricity in Nigeria. Similarly, there are other factors that influence demand for electricity in Nigeria which are not readily available, hence the need to interpret the result with caveat. Originality/value/contribution – The research focused on the determinants of electrici-ty consumption instead of energy that has been extensively researched. It contributed to the existing literature on the determinants of electricity consumption in Nigeria by in-cluding electricity distribution shortages, number of electricity customers, and population per square kilometre.

Opis:
The economy of Pakistan had always been plunged due to its severe electricity shortages over the last two decades and persistently faces challenges in revamping its electricity supply network. The China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is considered as a productive shock which has opened up new avenues for the energy sector in Pakistan. This study is an endeavor to incorporate the impact of such shock in the production function and to revisit the dynamics between electricity consumption and economic growth (ECEG) in the new economy of Pakistan for the time span of 1971-2018. The study has employed Vector Autoregression (VAR) model, including capital formation, labor participation, openness of the economy and financial development. The findings of the study affirmed the neutrality hypothesis while cointegration estimates jagged long run effectiveness for ECEG nexus. Keeping in view the internal and external bottlenecks, it is thus recommended to revise the ECEG model for the new economy of Pakistan keeping in view the revival of industrial sector removing the inefficiencies of the power sector.

Opis:
Pellet boilers are increasingly popular on the market, largely due to the fact that their use does not demand constant control by the user, but is reduced only to replenishing fuel and cleaning the combustion chamber and heat exchanger every few days. However, this functionality creates additional costs in terms of power consumption due to the work of boiler components, such as the pellet igniter, screw conveyors motors, fan, pump and controller. The purpose of this research was the analysis of the power demand and energy consumption of the electricity devices installed on the automatic pellet boiler in two operating modes, determining the total energy consumption and costs of electricity due to heating seasons in each mode. In the first mode, the boiler worked with modulated power, and in the second the boiler was working with nominal power. To carry out the mentioned research, a pellet boiler installed in the AGH UST Laboratory of Renewable Energy Sources in Miękinia was used. All the data obtained was used to simulate the total electricity consumption during one standard heating season and the costs involved. In the first case the boiler consumed 623,195 kWh of electricity per heating season and in the second the boiler consumed 304,503 kWh electricity per heating season. Although electricity consumption in the modulated mode is higher, the total cost of heating is lower, due to lower fuel consumption.

Przeprowadzono długotrwałe pomiary zużyć energii elektrycznej i wody w wybranej szkole. Przeprowadzono próbę jakościowe i ilościowego uogólnienia uzyskanych wyników.
Long-term measurements of electricity and water consumption in the selected school have been performed. It was found that the object monitoring consciousness causes a significant reduction in the number of unreasonable states energy consumption factors. The consumption saving is highest in the first year of monitoring. In the subsequent years, the effect is reducing in a similar manner to successive geometric progression with quotient less than one. In the paper the results of daily water and electricity consumption measurements analysis in the monitored years (four years for electricity and water for five) have been shown. The qualitative and quantitative analises was generalized.

Electric energy systems need constant modernization and updating to solve such problems as distributed management, self-sealing, improving the quality of electricity, demand management, and integration of renewable energy systems. Currently, energy systems need advanced and intelligent technologies to perform various system-level tasks. The purpose of this research is to analyze the existing control systems of electric energy systems, as well as to consider the possibility of using multi-agent systems to control electric energy systems. To achieve the aim of the research, the following scientific approaches were implemented: method of direct research, experimental method, questioning, comparative method, analysis method, and method of observation. The primary value of the research is in the novelty of the work and the fact, that functional components in multi-agent systems act as independent agents, which can interact with each other through a message communication system. This provides a simple connection between the components, which can benefit complex systems designed for an intelligent network. The intelligent network provides an efficient energy management system, and the modernization of the existing power system using a multi-agent system provides solutions to many problems. The best implementation of a multi-agent system can be achieved through the employment of fast and protected communication protocols. The authors of the research have conducted research and presented key statistical data on electricity usage in Kazakhstan over the past few years. The practical significance of the research is determined by the applied results, and their scientific significance, which is conditioned upon the use of deep, modern mathematical results and the development of an optimal control system. This research is a part of a universal model and optimal system of emergency quick response, conducting a quick preliminary prognosis as well as ensuring more lasting planning in electricity consumption.

Key factors influencing electricity consumption in the residential sector in Poland have been identified. A fixed-effects model was used, which includes time effects, and a set of covariates, based on the model developed by Houthakker et al. This model estimates electricity demand by using lagged values of the dependent variable along with current and lagged values of electricity prices, and other variables that affect electricity demand such as: population, economic growth, income per capita, price of related goods, etc. The model has been identified according to the research results of the authors and those obtained by Bentzen and Engsted. The set of covariates was extended to the lagged electricity price given by a tariff (taken from two years previous to the time of interest) and heating degree days index, a very important factor in European Union countries, where the climate is temperate. The authors propose four models of residential electricity demand, for which a confidence interval of 95% has been assumed. Estimation was based on Polish quarterly data for the years 2003–2013.

Opis:
In recent years, energy efficiency is becoming increasingly important in the field of water management, which is due to the fact that wastewater treatment plants are responsible for nearly 35% of energy consumption from all municipal sources. At present, wastewater treatment plants are already the largest consumers of electrical energy. For instance, the total energy consumption of 10000 WWTPs is approx. 4400 GWh/year, which corresponds to the demand of 900 000 four-person households. Biological wastewater treatment is the most energy demanding. In activated sludge systems energy consumption of aeration bioreactors is at a level of 40÷50%, and in some cases may reach as high as 60÷80%. Therefore, the cost of the electricity consumed in wastewater treatment systems is significant. The increase in standards of wastewater treatment causes a further increase in energy demand. Therefore, it becomes reasonable to develop energy audits for wastewater treatment systems, on the basis of which it is possible to determine the energy consumption of individual treatment processes, and thus determine the energy savings in such facilities. The paper presents the electricity consumption in selected municipal wastewater treatment plants located in south-eastern Poland (Biecz, Dynów, Hyżne, Krzeczowice, Nowy Żmigród). A data-based evaluation of the energy consumption of WWTPs was performed. What is more, the basic factors of energy consumption in relation to the flow, removed pollution load and load substrate treatment were described. Energy consumption of the wastewater treatment was analyzed on the basis of monthly and quarterly data. Electricity consumption of the analyzed wastewater treatment plants in 2016 was at the level between 0.307 kWh/m3 and 3.225 kWh/m3, while the average value of electricity consumption amounted to 1.26 kWh/m3 (Biecz); 0.525 kWh/m3 (Dynów); 1.963 kWh/m3 (Hyżne); 2.021 kWh/m3 (Krzeczowice) and 1.217 kWh/m3 (Nowy Żmigród). Electricity consumption of these wastewater systems is relatively high and comparable to the amount required in other units of this type. Energy consumption of the analyzed municipal wastewater treatment plants was not harmonized with fluctuations in hydraulic load. As the amount of pollution load in the flow to the plant increases, the energy intensity of the technological object declines. The average rate of energy consumption in relation to the pollution load for plants in Biecz, Dynow, Hyżne, Krzeczowice and Nowy Żmigród reached the levels of 5.224, 3.02, 5.185, 1.46 and 4.646 kWh/kg BOD5 removal respectively. The results are similar to those described in the literature data (1.1÷6.09 kWh/kg BOD5 removal).
W pracy zaprezentowano zużycie energii elektrycznej w wybranych oczyszczalniach ścieków komunalnych zlokalizowanych w południowo-wschodniej Polsce - Biecz, Dynów, Hyżne, Krzeczowice i Nowy Żmigród. Na podstawie danych eksploatacyjnych dokonano oceny zużycia energii wybranych obiektów oraz określono podstawowe współczynniki energochłonności w odniesieniu do przepływu, usuwanego ładunku zanieczyszczeń i obciążenia substratowego oczyszczalni.
