Opis:
Electrochemical processes take place in a metal object immersed into sea water even if an anticorrosive coating is applied [1]. As a result, flowing field appears around the object. There are naval mines between many other objects situated in the sea. Naval mines can be put in the seabed in order to be more difficult to detect by sonars. Such a mine is located on the line demarking two environments of different electrical conductivity. The results of a computer analysis of the influence of seabed’s electrical conductivity on the electric field’s disposition around a mine model are shown below. Also, a naval mine detection system based on the FPGA circuit is presented.

The aim of this paper is description of vulcanization process by monitoring of selected electrical and mechanical parameters. The experiments have shown that the vulcanization process can be qualitatively and quantitatively evaluated on the basis of measurements of mechanical (standard procedure in rubber industry) and also electrical parameters. The results obtained for model system SBR rubber mixture under conditions of linear heating are presented also.

The suitability of a new wireless smart farming system for controlling irrigation and fertilization of horticultural plants was assessed in the study. The system (name: AGREUS® ) includes sensors (soil moisture, salinity, weather data), executive modules (valve modules), and an application available on the web portal (accessed through computers and mobile devices). The studies were performed under laboratory and field conditions. Laboratory tests included appraisal of the precision of soil moisture and salinity measurements carried out with the soil probe (comparison with the results obtained by laboratory methods). Operational tests were conducted in field trials. In these trials, assessment of the possibility of practical control of irrigation and monitoring soil salinity was performed in an apple orchard. The conducted analyses have shown the usefulness of the system, not only for automatic control of irrigation but also for making decisions about the necessity to fertilize plants. The system enables continuous monitoring of changes in soil moisture and salinity, including the migration of minerals across the soil profile (using a probe with several measuring elements) as a result of the applied irrigation or rainfall. The system allows for automatic application of irrigation or fertigation depending on the adopted soil moisture and salinity thresholds. However, the tests showed that a salinity index calculated by the system does not directly correspond to the salinity values determined by laboratory methods. For this reason individual interpretation and determination of optimal ranges for plants is required.

In this paper, polypyrrole coated conductive fabrics were prepared using pyrrole as the monomer, p-toluene sulfonic acid as the doping agent and ammonium persulfate as the oxidant, adopting the simple method of situ polymerization of the liquid phase. Six types of conductive polypyrrole coated fabrics were prepared adopting polyester-cotton blended fabrics, nylon fabrics, wool fabrics, silk fabrics, basalt fabrics and aramid fabric respectively as base materials and using the same process conditions; its electrical conductivity was compared, and the distribution and resistance of the washing fastness of polypyrrole on the surface of those fabrics were studied. Results showed that under the same process conditions, the conductivity of polypyrrole coated terylene fabrics was the best, followed by the polypyrrole coated nylon fabrics and polypyrrole coated wool fabrics. Observed by electron microscope, the distribution of polypyrrole was more homogeneous on different base cloths. After washing, it was concluded that the combination fastness of polypyrrole with polyester-cotton, nylon and wool was better, while the combination fastness of polypyrrole with basalt and aramid was poor.

The influence of electron irradiation fluxes with energy of 12 MeV and heat treatment on the electrical properties of epoxypolymers with PEPA content of 11, 12 and 13 wt.h. per 100 wt. including epoxy resin. It is show that the electrical conductivity of epoxypolymer increases with electron irradiation fluxes greater than 10 kGy. It found that extra heat treatment of irradiated samples with a hardener content of 12 wt. h. hours leads to an increase in their electrical conductivity. The nature of the obtained dependences of electrical conductivity is determine by the processes of cross-linking, radiation, thermal destruction and mass fraction of the hardener. Radiation-stimulated increase in the conductivity of epoxypolymers can be use to create conductive protective coatings and sensor electronics elements.

The study investigates the effect of heat treatment on the microstructure evolution and properties of an age-hardened Cu-3Ti-2Mg alloy. The precipitated Cu2Mg and β'-Cu4Ti phases consequently yield a depletion of the Cu matrix in regards to Ti and Mg solutes, which enhances the electrical conductivity. The Cu2Mg Laves phase and β'-Cu4Ti phase precipitates increase the hardness of the alloy due to the consistency and coherency of the later phase. However, the decrease of hardness is mainly associated with the coarse microstructures, that can be formed due to the phase transformation from metastable β'-Cu4Ti phase to more stable Cu3Ti phase. In the range of experiments, the optimum process is solution treatment at 700°C for 4 h, with subsequent age-hardening at 450°C for 4 h. The electrical conductivity, hardness, tensile strength, and elongation of the Cu-3Ti-2Mg alloy were 15.34 % IACS, 344 HV, 533 MPa, and 12%, respectively.

Opis:
Nanocrystalline CdS thin films were successfully prepared using simple chemical bath deposition technique. Cadmium sulphate, thiourea and deionised water were used as starting precursor solution. The prepared thin films were characterized using X-ray diffractogram (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), elemental composition using energy dispersive spectrophotometer (EDAX) and optical band gap (UV-Spectroscopy).X-ray diffractogram reveals that present of cubic and hexagonal phase. The thickness, crystallite size and grain size were observed to be increase with increase operating temperature of bath while optical band gap energy slightly decreases. Effect of deposition temperature on physical, structural, microstructural, electrical and optical properties of these films was studied and presented in the present investigation. Prepared thin films shows good response towards photoconducting in presence and absent of light.

The progressive degradation of soils is a recently increasing environmental problem. The risk of soil degradation may be associated, for example, with landslides, flooding, soil erosion. However, these are relatively rare phenomena compared to the risk of chemical degradation caused by human activity. Given the limited research on the positive effect of miscanthus biochar on soil properties, a study was carried out aimed at determining changes in pH, electrical conductivity, sorption properties, and mobility of selected heavy metals in sandy soil treated with various chemicals. Biochar used in the study was produced at a temperature of 300°C. The addition of biochar to soil generally increased the pH value, regardless of the type of chemical degradation. The study revealed a decrease in the hydrolytic acidity value and, at the same time, no significant changes in the content of alkaline cations and sorption capacity of the biochar-treated soil. The best effect on reducing the mobility of trace elements was achieved by adding biochar to the soil supplemented with acidifying substances. Bearing in mind the current agricultural and environmental problems, there is a need to increase the effectiveness of biochar and to direct its action to improve specific soil properties.

Fabrication of electro-conductive fiber is a novel process. Nanocomposites of multiwall carbon nanotube/polyamide66 were produced by electrospinning with different amounts of multiwall carbon nanotube. Field emission scanning electron microscope and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy of samples proved the existence of multiwall carbon nanotube distribution in polyamide 66 nanofibers. Results showed that electro conductivity of electrospun multiwall carbon nanotube/polyamide 66 nano fiber has increased in comparison with electrospun polyamide 66. Moreover, UV blocking of samples was investigated which has shown that using multiwall carbon nanotube in polyamide 66 increases UV blocking of fibers. Furthermore, anti-bacterial activity of nanocomposite showed that these nanocomposites have antibacterial property against both Staphylococcus Aureus and Escherichia Coli bacteria according to AATCC test method.

Mixed ionic and electronic conducting K2NiF4-type oxide, Nd2Ni1-xCuxO4+δ (x=0~1) powders were synthesized by solid state reaction technique and solid oxide fuel cells consisting of a Nd2Ni1-xCuxO4+δ cathode, a Ni-YSZ anode and ScSZ as an electrolyte were fabricated. The effect of copper substitution for nickel on the electrical and electrochemical properties was examined. Small amount of copper doping (x=0.2) resulted in the increased electrical conductivity and decreased polarization resistance. It appears that this phenomenon was associated with the high mean valence of nickel and copper and the resulting excess oxygen (δ). It was found that power densities of the cell with the Nd2Ni1-xCuxO4+δ (x=0.1 and 0.2) cathode were higher than that of the cell with theNd2NiO4+δ cathode.

Solid electrolytes based on sodium cryolite are present in aluminium electrolysers as frozen crystals formed on the side walls of the carbon lining (side ledge). Their main task is to protect the lining from the effect of liquid electrolyte and ensure temperature stabilization during the process of electrolysis. On the other hand, being electrically conductive, they can reduce current efficiency. In this study, the value of the electronic component of the total conductivity of the solidified electrolytes of different compositions was determined. It was found that the highest electronic conductivity is exhibited by electrolytes containing both aluminium and calcium fluoride. However, the electronic component of the total conductivity is not high, as it only reaches 0.1–2.3 mS/cm. Its share in the total conductivity of the solid multi-component electrolytes varies and, depending on their composition, is within a range of 1–10%.
Stałe elektrolity na bazie kriolitu sodowego są obecne w elektrolizerach do produkcji aluminium jako wykrystalizowane na bocznych ścianach wyłożeniach węglowego garnisaże. Ich głównym zadaniem jest ochrona węglowego wyłożenia przed działaniem ciekłego elektrolitu i stabilizacja temperatury procesu elektrolizy. Z drugiej strony mogą być przyczyną spadku wydajności prądowej, gdyż przewodzą prąd elektryczny. W pracy wyznaczono wielkość składowej elektronowej całkowitego przewodnictwa zakrzepłych elektrolitów o różnym składzie. Stwierdzono, że najwyższe przewodnictwo elektronowe wykazują elektrolity zawierające jednocześnie fluorek glinu i wapnia. Składowa elektronowa całkowitego przewodnictwa nie jest jednak wysoka i osiąga wartości rzędu 0,1–2,3 mS/cm. Jej udział w całkowitym przewodnictwie stałych elektrolitów wieloskładnikowych waha się, w zależności od ich składów, od 1 do 10%.

Przedstawiono podsumowanie wyników wieloletnich badań przewodności elektrolitycznej właściwej wód opadowych, prowadzonych w siedmiu punktach zlokalizowanych wokół Bielska-Białej. Na każdym ze stanowisk czas badań wynosił około jednego roku. Badania prowadzono w latach 2002–2010. Zebrane próbki opadów atmosferycznych cechowały się dużym zróżnicowaniem przewodności właściwej (od 1,8 μS·cm-1 do 188,5 μS cm-1); średnia arytmetyczna i ważona dla wszystkich pomiarów wyniosła odpowiednio 36,5 μS·cm-1 i 29,9 μS·cm-1. Najczęściej notowano opady o przewodnictwie „lekko podwyższonym” (15,1–30,0 μS·cm-1) i „znacznie podwyższonym” (30,1–45,0 μS·cm-1) – odpowiednio 36,6% i 25,9% prób opadów. Próbki opadów kwalifikowanych jako nie zanieczyszczone (< 15 μS·cm-1) odnotowano w każdym z punktów badawczych. Stanowiły one łącznie 8,9% prób. Wystąpiły sezonowe zmiany przewodności właściwej opadów atmosferycznych. W sezonie grzewczym była ona wyższa niż w ciepłej porze roku. Przewodność wód opadowych formowana była w dużej mierze przez zanieczyszczenia nadchodzące z kierunku zachodniego i południowo-zachodniego oraz miejscowe źródła ich emisji.
The results of long-term studies on specific electrical conductivity of water precipitation conducted in seven re-search points located near Bielsko-Biała were presented. At each point a period of investigation lasted ca. 1 year. The research was performed in the year range 2002–2010. The collected samples of precipitation were characterized by a great diversity of conductivity (1.8–188.5 μS·cm-1); arithmetic and weighted average of all measurements was respectively 36.5 μS·cm-1 and 29.9 μS·cm-1. Most frequently, conductivity of rain water was “slightly increased” (15.1–30.0 μS·cm-1) and “significantly increased” (30.1–45.0 μS·cm-1), respectively 36.6% and 25.9% of the total samples. Samples of precipitation classified as not contaminated (<15 μS· cm-1) were observed in each of the re-search points. They represented 8.9% of the all samples. There were seasonal changes in the conductivity of precipitation. During the heating season the conductivity was higher than in the warm season. Rainwater conductivity was formed mainly by pollution coming from the west and southern-west direction, and by local sources of its emission.

Structural, elastic, electronic, magnetic and thermoelectric properties of the Heusler compounds: Zr₂PdAl, Zr₂PdGa, and Zr₂PdIn are performed using generalized gradient approximation with exchange-correlation function of the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof. The elastic constants are calculated at P=0 GPa. From the obtained elastic parameters, it is inferred that these compounds, with the Hg₂TiCu-type structure, are elastically stable and ductile in nature. The calculated density of states, magnetic moments and band structure are also given. The band structures of these compounds reveal that all of them have almost half metallic character with the narrow indirect band gap in the minority spin channel that amounts to 0.36, 0.46, and 0.40 eV for Zr₂PdAl, Zr₂PdGa, and Zr₂PdIn, respectively. The total spin magnetic moments (M_{tot}) of the considered compounds are very close to integer value 3, which satisfies a Slater-Pauling type rule for localized magnetic moment systems M_{tot}=Z_{T}-18, where Z_{T}=21 is the number of valence electrons in the primitive cell. The thermoelectric properties of these materials are discussed on the basis of the Seebeck coefficients, electrical and thermal conductivity relative to relaxation time as a function of temperature, at the Fermi level, using the Boltzmann transport theory. After several browse in the literature, the obtained results are the first predictions of the physical properties for the inverse full-Heusler compounds Zr₂PdZ (Z = Al, Ga and In).

Opis:
Modern manufacturing methods of non-ferrous metals, especially aluminum and its alloys, are more and more often based on integrated technologies combining multiple operations in a single process. One of the most popular methods for producing flat components by cold working is twin roll casting technology (TRC). It allows to eliminate from manufacturing the extremely expensive hot rolling operation, as the TRC semi-product (strip) can be directly cold rolled. The results of mechanical and electrical properties and structure examination of strips after casting were presented in the paper. The effect of cold rolling parameters on post-process mechanical properties and structure of sheets was investigated too.
