Opis:: Autor stara się porównać życie i twórczość Edyty Stein i Karola Wojtyły, oraz ukazać jej postać w nauczaniu Jana Pawła II. Najpierw chodzi o aspekt biograficzny. Następnie zostaje porównane podejście do badań filozoficznych. Wreszcie artykuł ukazuje nauczanie papieża na temat Edyty Stein jako filozofa, męczennicy, mistyczki i wzoru dla kobiet. Następuje to przy okazji jej beatyfikacji, kanonizacji i ogłoszenia jej patronką Europy.
The author compares the life and the works of Edith Stein and Karol Wojtyła, and shows her in the teaching of John Paul II. The first part deals with biographical aspects. After this philosophical researches are compared. Finally the article presents the pope’s teachings about Edith Stein as a philosopher, martyr, mystic and good example for women. This teaching took place on the occasion of beatification, canonization and the declaration of Edith Stein as patron of Europe.

Opis:: In modern times as never before, marriage and family are in danger. The contemporary problems were already present in many aspects in the times of Edith Stein. The author of the article studies the life and the works of the Saint with regard to marriage and family. For Edith Stein, marriage is an inseparable union of a man and woman, which, thanks to the sacramental grace, is filled with special strength to maintain reciprocal love and fidelity and also to cooperate with God in giving life and educating children. In Edith Stein’s opinion, both the husband and the wife in the family have rights and duties connected with being God’s image, bearing and bringing up children and transforming the world by their work. Edith, however, noted the difference between sexes and the way in which the tasks were realised according to the nature and the different callings. The Saint saw the necessity of complementarity of sexes and generations in a harmonious family. Such a vision of marriage and family is still applicable in our times.

The spirituality of the Cross which Stein writes about in compliance with the classic masters, nowadays may be an adjustment to the incarnational spirituality, in her overly optimistic view on the usage of creatures and taking for granted the spiritual value of suffering.

Opis:: In the context of the canonization of John Paul II, the author reflects on his experience of the concentration camp at Auschwitz. It is a difficult experience, therefore it can more reveal the Pope as a man and a pastor, his way of thinking and perceiving reality. Through canonization this way is indicated to us as a pattern. John Paul came often to Auschwitz, where he saw the place of denial of God and man, but also a place of victory of man over contempt, hatred and death through faith in God, which generates love for Him and for man. The symbol of such a victory is St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe, martyr of love that as Christ gave his life for the fellow prisoner Francis Gajowniczek. In this heroic deed – in the opinion of the Pope – Christ himself was present, so the camp at Auschwitz is not only hell on earth, but also the Golgotha of our times, the cemetery of the martyrs, the sanctuary of the patron of difficult century. Pope John Paul II arrived there to pray and make a reflection on the contemporary man’s condition, who in Christ the Redeemer can still conquer evil with good and to build the peace based on respect for the rights of person and nations.
W kontekście kanonizacji Jana Pawła II autor podejmuje refleksję nad jego doświadczeniem obozu koncentracyjnego w Auschwitz. Jest to doświadczenie trudne, dlatego może bardziej odsłonić papieża jako człowieka i duszpasterza, jego sposób myślenia i odbierania rzeczywistości. Poprzez kanonizację sposób ten zostaje nam wskazany jako wzorzec. Jan Paweł II pielgrzymował często do obozu w Auschwitz, w którym widział miejsce negacji Boga i człowieka, ale także miejsce zwycięstwa człowieka nad pogardą, nienawiścią i śmiercią dzięki wierze w Boga, z której czerpał miłość do Niego i do człowieka. Symbolem takiego zwycięstwa jest św. Maksymilian Maria Kolbe, męczennik miłości, który jak Chrystus oddał życie za współwięźnia Franciszka Gajowniczka. W tym heroicznym geście – zdaniem Papieża – był obecny sam Chrystus, dlatego obóz w Auschwitz to nie tylko piekło na ziemi, ale również Golgota naszych czasów, cmentarz męczenników, sanktuarium patrona trudnego stulecia. Jan Paweł II przybywał tam, aby się modlić i podejmować refleksję nad kondycją współczesnego człowieka, który w Chrystusie Odkupicielu może wciąż zło dobrem zwyciężać i budować pokój oparty na poszanowaniu praw osoby i narodów.

Searching for the inspiration to create an educational dialogue culture we turn to Edith Stein. Her philosophical and theological anthropology is the base for educational work. Her concept of empathy, “putting ourselves in the situation of others” opens up a wide range of possibilities for building true interpersonal relations based on the dignity of human for whom God is the source of dialogue. St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross shows the light on the educational path that is scientific reflection and personal testimony of life.

Transformacja ta dokonała się przede wszystkim dzięki lekturze i analizie książek filozoficznych, religijnych, literackich, które były podstawą szukania odpowiedzi na pytania ontologiczne w drodze poszukiwania i znalezienia prawdy absolutnej. Wybory czytelnicze E. Stein, analiza wybranych jej lektur, ich odbiór i wpływ na przekonania karmelitanki stały się przedmiotem niniejszego tekstu.
The aim of this article is to show the way of spiritual transformation of Edith Stein (Saint Teresa Benedict of the Cross) – the phenomenologist of light, the barefoot Carmelite, the patroness of Europe. This transformation took place mainly thanks to reading and analyzing philosophical, religious and literary books, which were the basis for searching for answers to ontological questions by searching and finding the absolute truth. E. Stein’s reading choices, the analysis of her selected readings, their reception and influence on the Carmelite’s convictions have become the subject of this text.

Opis:: The purpose of the article was to remind Edith Stein and her activity on the field of the education and empowerment of women. As a young girl and student, she recognized herself as a suffragette, and her attitude and actions – pedagogical, social and political – fit her into the first wave of feminism. On the other hand, her further educational, scientific and journalistic activities let recognize Stein as a precursor of later academic feminism.
Celem artykułu jest przypomnienie postaci Edith Stein i jej działalności na polu edukacji i uzyskaniu większych praw przez kobiety, co miało wzmocnić ich pozycję. Jako młoda dziewczyna i studentka uważała się za sufrażystkę, a jej postawa i działania – pedagogiczne, społeczne i polityczne – wpasowały ją w pierwszą falę feminizmu. Z drugiej strony, jej dalsze działania edukacyjne, naukowe i dziennikarskie pozwalają uznać Stein za prekursora późniejszego feminizmu akademickiego.

Była ona jednak niezwykle uczciwą w poszukiwaniu prawdy, która stała się jej życiową pasją. Artykuł ukazuje najpierw różne definicje prawdy. Następnie podejmuje prezentację sposobów fenomenologicznego odkrywania prawdy na temat człowieka, który był charakterystycznym dla Edyty Stein. Wreszcie pokazuje jej dojście do odkrycia Boga Miłości, który pociągnął ją do mistycznego zjednoczenia w duchowości Karmelu. Edyta Stein zginęła w obozie koncentracyjnym w Auschwitz doświadczając tajemnicy Krzyża Chrystusowego i ofiarowując się za swój naród.
Edith Stein is a person who was born in the Jewish traditionally religious family. In her youth she lost her faith in God. However in her life she was seeking the truth. In this search she was very honest. The article first shows different definitions of truth. Then he takes the presentation of Edith Stein's, the ways of phenomenological discovery of the truth about a human person. Finally, it shows her coming to the discovery of the God of Love, who has drawn her to mystical union in the spirituality of Carmel. Edith Stein died in the concentration camp in Auschwitz, experiencing the mystery of the Cross of Christ and sacrificing herself for her people.
Edith Stein wurde in einer jüdisch-traditionell-religiösen Familie geboren. Schon in der Jugendzeit hat sie aufgehört zu beten und den Glauben an Gott verloren. Sie hat jedoch niemals aufgehört, außerordentlich ehrlich nach Gott zu suchen. Diese Suche nach Gott wurde zu Passion ihres Lebens. Im Artikel werden zuerst verschiedene Definitionen der Wahrheit dargestellt. Des Weiteren wurden verschiedene Arten des phänomenologischen Weges der Erkenntnis der Wahrheit über den Menschen, so charakteristisch für Edith Stein, besprochen. Letztendlich wurde ihre Entdeckung der Liebe Gottes analysiert, die sie zur mystischen Vereinigung mit Gott in der karmelitischen Spiritualität geführt hat. Edith Stein wurde im Konzentrationslager Auschwitz ermordet, wodurch sie das Geheimnis des Kreuzes Christi am eigenen Leibe erfahren und für ihr Volk aufgeopfert hatte.

Opis:: Artykuł pokazuje powiązania i podobieństwa między myślą Edyty Stein i świętego Tomasza z Akwinu. Główny problem sformułowany został w sposób następujący: czy możemy mówić o intelektualnej drodze Edyty Stein do świętego Tomasza z Akwinu? Analizy pokazały, że Edyta Stein była osobą poszukującą prawdy w całym swoim życiu a na tej drodze ku prawdzie istotne miejsce zajmuje święty Tomasz. Droga ta posiada trzy główne fazy: fenomenologiczną, chrześcijańską i mistyczną. Do spotkania ze świętym Tomaszem dochodzi w czasie „fazy chrześcijańskiej”. Żydowską myślicielka tłumaczyła dzieła Akwinaty, porównywał jego system z rozważaniami Husserla i sama twórczo komentowała analizy Doktora Anielskiego. Spotkanie z fenomenologią i tomizmem doprowadziło Edytę Stein do decyzji wstąpienia do klasztoru karmelitańskiego i analiz doświadczenia mistycznego.
The article shows the connection and similarities between Edith Stein and Saint Thomas Aquinas. The main issue of the considerations is: if we can talk about an intellectual way from Edith Stein to Saint Thomas Aquinas? The analysis have shown that Edith Stein was a person who was looking for the Truth in all her life. On this journey to the Truth we can distinguish 3 basic stages: phenomenological, christian and mystical. Saint Thomas plays fundamental role in the second stage. This Jewish thinker translated the work of Aquinas and conformed his way of thinking with Husserl’s phenomenology. The meeting with phenomenology and Thomism resulted in her decision of life in Carmelite order and analysis of mysticism.

Opis:: The article is an attempt to analyze the manifestations of empathy in Edith Stein's scientific work and life, and it draws attention to the psychological role of empathy in the development of personality. It is worth emphasizing the importance of both the very figure of Husserl's outstanding student and the ecumenical significance of her work. The concept of "empathy" appeared in the first decades of the 20th century and the basis for the analysis of this phenomenon was philosophical (phenomenological) deliberations on the problem of cognition of other people's psychic states. One of the first psychologists to draw on the achievements of phenomenologists and apply the term Die Einfühlung was Theodor Lipps. In the Anglo-Saxon literature this term was translated as "empathy" or "sharing feelings with...". In psychotherapy today, important findings in the field of empathy were made by a Rogers and Batson, in Poland Rembowski. The article presents fragments of Edith Stein's selected writings, letters and statements, which bear testimony to her interest in the problem of empathy both in her scientific work and in her personal life. The factual material presented and its analysis is additionally based on the Personality and Axiological Model by Mróz, which focuses on the dimensions of competence, social relations and autonomy. Stein's biographical facts and statements on empathy are presented with emphasis on the relations and dependencies between the scholar's psychobiography and the dimensions of the MOA and references to the issues of ecumenism.
Artykuł stanowi próbę analizy przejawów empatii w twórczości naukowej i życiu Edyty Stein oraz zwraca uwagę na psychologiczną rolę empatii w rozwoju osobowości. Warto podkreślić znaczenie zarówno samej postaci tej wybitnej uczennicy Husserla jak i wymowę ekumeniczną jej twórczości. Pojęcie „empatia” pojawiło się w pierwszych dekadach XX wieku, a podstawą analizy tego zjawiska były filozoficzne (fenomenologiczne) rozważania dotyczące zagadnień poznawania cudzych stanów psychicznych. Jednym z pierwszych psychologów, który czerpał z osiągnięć fenomenologów i użył terminu Die Einfühlung, był Theodor Lipps. W literaturze anglosaskiej pojęcie to tłumaczono właśnie jako „empatia” bądź „odczuwanie razem z…” Współcześnie w psychoterapii ważnych ustaleń w obszarze empatii dokonali: Rogers i Batson a w Polsce Rembowski. W artykule prezentowane są fragmenty wybranych pism, listów i wypowiedzi Edyty Stein będące świadectwem przejawianego przez nią zainteresowania zagadnieniem empatii zarówno w twórczości naukowej, jak i w życiu osobistym. Przedstawiony materiał faktograficzny oraz jego analiza opierają się dodatkowo na Modelu Osobowościowo-Aksjologicznym MOA Mróz, koncentrującym się na wymiarach kompetencji, relacji społecznych i autonomii. Fakty biograficzne i wypowiedzi Stein dotyczące empatii przedstawiono z podkreśleniem związków i zależności występujących między psychobiografią uczonej a wymiarami MOA i odniesieniami do zagadnień ekumenizmu.

Opis:: The aim of this article was to present historical and philosophical background of Edith Stein’s concept of empathy. Stein based her PhD thesis on Husserl’s views and referred to actual state of research on possibility to know the consciousness of another. The author uses the hermeneutic method of analyzing Stein’swritings. He also examines Stein’s interpretation of approach of Husserl, Scheler,Lipps and other. In the result the relevance of Stein’s concept and its historical background were demonstrated

Opis:: This article discusses Benedict the XVI’s charting of the formation and history of Europe around a mission to reign as a sacred duty for the sake of Human Dignity in the light of Edith Stein’s insights into the relationship between community formation and objective values. First, an account of Ratzinger’s understanding of Europe as a concept of political geography is given. Secondly is discussed the mission at the heart of the formation of Europe according to Ratzinger, and how such a mission would, according to Stein, be particularly suited for shaping a people and a continent. The third section discusses Ratzinger’s understanding of Human Dignity in the light of Stein’s understanding of values.
W niniejszym artykule omówiono refleksje Benedykta XVI dotyczące formowania się i historii Europy w świetle powierzonego człowiekowi zadania panowania, które jest nie tylko jego świętym obowiązkiem, ale także podstawą jego godności. Analizy dokonano w świetle poglądów Edith Stein na temat związku między formacją wspólnotową a obiektywnymi wartościami. Zostały ukazane – po pierwsze – poglądy Ratzingera na temat rozumienia Europy w wymiarze polityczno-geograficznym. Po drugie – omówiono misję formowania Europy w świetle refleksji Ratzingera oraz również według sugestii Stein. Misja taka będzie szczególnie odpowiednia dla kształtowania ludzi i kontynentu. W trzeciej części omówiono rozumienie godności człowieka Ratzingera w świetle koncepcji wartości autorstwa Stein.
Im Artikel wird eine Darstellung von Entstehung und Geschichte Europas im Zusammenhang mit dem Herrschaftsauftrag unternommen, verstanden als eine heilige Pflicht um der menschlichen Würde willen im Lichte der Ausführungen von Edith Stein über den Zusammenhang zwischen der Bildung von Gemeinschaft und objektiven Werten. Zuerst wird das Verständnis Ratzingers über Europa als ein Konzept der politischen Geographie dargelegt. Im Weiteren wird der Herrschaftsauftrag im Zentrum der Entstehung Europas gemäß den Ausführungen von Ratzinger diskutiert sowie die Frage, wie ein solcher Auftrag, nach Stein, besonders geeignet sein könnte, dem Menschen und dem Kontinent eine Gestalt zu verleihen. Im dritten Teil wird das Ratzingersche Verständnis von der menschlichen Würde im Licht des Steinschen Verständnis der Werte dargelegt.
