Opis:
Alluvial and oxbow deposits preserved 18 m above the Skawa River valley floor are related to the Early Vistulian. Pollen analysis of the two mainly terrestrial profiles revealed a boreal forest succession. The age of the deposits is discussed.

Opis:
This pa per pres ents the re sults of fos sil Cladocera anal y sis us ing ma te rial ob tained from seven palaeolakes of the Eemian inter gla cial lo cated in Po land. The main aim of this study was to in ves ti gate the state of pres er va tion and diver sity of spe cies in the Eemian Cladocera. The stud ied Eemian lakes were formed at the end of the Wartanian Gla ciation in tun nel and ket tle holes. They had pre served a con tin u ous re cord of en vi ron men tal changes through out the Eemian inter gla cial, un til the Vistulian Gla ci ation. Cladocera fos sils found in Eemian sed i ments were thin ner and had a more dam aged struc ture than fos sils from the Ho lo cene. Low de gree of fos sil pres er va tion forced to de velop an al terna tive method for prep a ra tion of the fos sils for the mi cro scopic anal y sis. Cladocera spe cies found in the ex am inedpalaeolakes cor re sponded to the pres ent-day spe cies in hab it ing Po land and Cen tral and North ern Eu rope. The changes in species composition resulting from climate changes corresponded to the current geographic distribution of Cladocera. De spite the poor con di tion of the ob tained fos sil re mains, the re sults showed that cladoceran fos sils in sed i ments of palaeolakes may be used in the re con struc tion of en vi ron men tal con di tions from the pe riod pre ced ing the last gla ci ation.

Opis:
The Łanięta site with fossil lake deposits is situated just in front of the maximum extent of Vistulian Glaciation ice. Palynological analysis shows that lake accumulation lasted through the Eemian Interglacial and almost the whole Early Vistulian, the longest record of this time interval in this part of Poland. Two warm interstadial-rank oscillations (Brörup and Odderade) and two stadials have been distinguished during the Early Vistulian. The older of these is correlated with the Herning Stadial while younger one equates with the Rederstal Stadial of the German succession.

Opis:
The stratigraphy and palaeogeography of Quaternary deposits under lying the Oleoenica Plain were investigated during mapping of the Syców sheet of the De tailed Geo logical Map of Poland on the scale of 1:50 000. The Oleoenica Plain is part of the southern foreland of the Trzebnica Ridge, the latter representing a frontal moraine of the South and Middle Polish Glaciations. Neopleistocene deposits found at the Dziadowa Kłoda site were analyzed for their pollen content. These lacus trine to swamp deposits represent a continuous and undisturbed sequence spanning the Eemian Interglacial to Brörup Interstadial interval. The Early Vistulian deposits have been the subject of detailed palynological investigations. The reconstructed pattern of vegetation changes has allowed a precise determination of the upper boundary of the last interglacial as well as the recognition of stadial-interstadial horizons. Three climatic oscillations have been noted, corresponding to the Herning and Rederstallstadials and the Brörup Interstadial. In the climatic optimum of the interstadial, dense boreal pine-birch forests accompanied by a minor admixture of alder and spruce were predominant. Cold stadials were dominated by open vegetation with tundra and steppe elements. The pollen sequence from Dziadowa Kłoda is the first site on the Silesian Lowland that shows the first fully developed Early Vistulian warm oscillation that correlates with the Brörup Interstadial. A distinctive feature of this site is a long, continuous pollen sequence of the Eemian passing into deposits of the Vistulian Glaciation in the same profile.

Pollen assemblages in peat and silt deposits from a core drilled at Gutów, Wielkopolska Lowland, have been analysed, enabling characterization of the development of vegetation and of palaeoenviromental change. The pollen analysis shows phases with forest and open vegetation communities alternating in response to climate changes. The age of the succession can be related to the stadials and interstadials of the Early Vistulian.

Opis:
The Białowice site is situated in the north-west of the Nowa Sól Depression which is part of the Central Poland Lowlands. Palynological analysis shows that lake and swamp accumulations took place in the Early Vistulian. Two warm interstadial-rank oscillations (Brörup and Odderade) and a stadial (Rederstall) have been distinguished during the Early Vistulian. The sequence of changes at Białowice is similar to the sequences in profiles from other parts of Poland and Western Europe. Until now, in that region of Poland the vegetation succession of the Brörup and Odderade had remained unknown. The lithology of the profile at Białowice shows rapid changes of sedimentation which have been observed in the younger part of the Brörup and at the Brörup/Rederstall transition. Geological and palynological data suggests that the maximum limit of the Vistulian Glaciation to the south of the Żary Hills.

Opis:
Small closed depressions are a common feature of the landscape of Central Poland. Their origin has been connected to various morphogenetic processes but most of the forms located in upland areas are the result of the melting of buried ice in the recession phase of the ice sheet of the Warta Stadial. A study of four sites with clusters of depressions, is being carried out in the Łódź Upland to compare the lithological features of their infillings. The analyses of the sediments have allowed to distinguish four lithological units and to display the variation between the infillings of the studied basins. Some of the depressions do not contain biogenic sediments of the Eemian Interglacial or the Early Vistulian. It indicates the presence of differences in the local geological conditions and a different course of the process of filling in of the basins.

Opis:
The Kubłowo site is situated in the southeastern Kujawy region, Central Poland, and slightly to the south of the limit of the Last GlacialMaximum (LGM) in the Vistula Lobe. Late Pleistocene lacustrine and peat deposits found there have been analyzed for their pollen content. The pollen sequence from Kubłowo records the longest continuous succession of vegetation covering the Eemian Interglacial, Early Vistulian and the lower part of the Plenivistulian in Central Poland. In the Early Vistulian two warm (Brörup and Odderade) and two cool(Herning and Rederstall) intervals have been distinguished. The next three climatic oscillations correspond to the Schalkholtz andEbersdorf stadials and to the Oerel Interstadial. The lack of till or till residua above the Eemian-Vistulian deposits at Kubłowo indicatesthis area as being beyond the extent of the last Scandinavian ice sheet which confirms the reconstruction of the LGM limit as based ongeomorphological evidence.
