Opis:
In 1901, the association Polska Sztuka Stosowana (Polish Applied Arts) announced a contest for a bookplate to be featured at the National Museum in Kraków. It was the fi rst competition of this sort in the Polish lands, and the result was the fi rst artistic Polish bookplate created by a traditional technique. Its author was Jan Bukowski, then starting his career in typography and illustration. Marking books with a decorative label, usually pasted onto the front endpaper, was becoming fashionable among bibliophiles and was an expression of their taste, education and artistic culture. For the following twenty or so years, the contest became a model for many other similar competitions. This article analyzes the form and content of the bookplate in question, which for many years became the trademark and logo of the National Museum in Kraków. It was also the paragon of the Polish exlibris valuable not only for its artistic but also Polish national features. Lastly, it was an object of exchange between the museum and Polish and foreign institutions,on the one hand, and between collectors, on the other.

Opis:
Ship’s bridge simulators are very popular in the worldwide training and assessment of merchant navy deck officers. The examiners of simulator courses presently do not have a method to quantitatively assess the performance of a group or an individual. Some examiners use checklists and others use their gut feeling to grade competence. In this paper a novel methodology is established that uses the Evidential Reasoning algorithm to quantitatively assess the Non-Technical Skills (NTS) of merchant navy officers. To begin with, interviews were conducted with experienced deck officers to develop the taxonomy and behavioural markers that would be used in the assessment process. A random selection of students studying towards their Chief Officer’s Certificate of Competency were recruited to have their NTS to be observed in a ship’s bridge simulator. The participant’s behaviour was rated against five criteria and the subsequent data was entered into the Evidential Reasoning algorithm to produce a crisp number. The results that were generated demonstrate that this approach provides a reliable method to quantitatively assess the NTS performance of merchant navy officers in a simulated bridge environment.

Opis:
Results of compressibility measurements of $AgI-Ag_{2}MoO_{4}$ materials for different concentrations of AgI were presented. The obtained results were compared with phase diagram and internal structure of material. It was found that observed values of compressibility coefficient can be related to internal structure of investigated material.

There is an increasing interest in effective methods for building consumer involvement on a mass scale. This paper offers an interdisciplinary theoretical framework for consumer involvement analysis and forwards an anthropological approach to this issue. It uses categories of play and communitas to examine cultural dynamics underlying consumer involvement. It summarizes and extends theoretical understanding of the topic and provides numerous examples from contemporary marketplace such as Heineken Open’er Festival and Volkswagen ‘Fun Theory’ initiative. Several research propositions are formulated for future empirical endeavors and implications for practice are defined.

Aleksander Nalaskowski’s book The Bankruptcy of the Polish intellectuals [Bankructwo polskiej inteligencji] is an important position for a broader refl ection not only on the condition of a certain social group, but more broadly - on contemporary culture, not only Polish culture. It seems, however, that the title problem of Nalaskowski’s study touches upon a more general issue, which is the present situation of Polish and world (well, maybe only European) culture in general. Whatever we may think about ourselves and how we judge it, we are stuck in a process that aff ects culture - especially since 1945. As I have tried to sketch the broader background, the sources of this bankruptcy are deeper and not only the fault of the intellectuals itself. Perhaps there is some truth in what the already mentioned Gałczyński wrote (Gałczyński 1956, 189 [Notes from unsuccessful Paris retreats - Notatki z nieudanych rekolekcji paryskich], 1946): And when Your storm passes will you accept a coward into your paradises? Oh sweet night, summer night ... Outside the window, a Galilean flute. Probably many intellectuals would repeat these words aft er the poet; because there is too much wind for my wool (za duży wiatr na moją wełnę)... This also needs to be taken into account, the failure to settle accounts that aff ected us aft er 1939-1945. Here I see the sources of this bankruptcy (if it was bankruptcy), when our parents, relatives, found out that they deviated from the guideline…. Hence the lack of an answer to the question posed in the Little Violin Concerto from Niobe’s poem - where is it? Originally the poet wrote - I know, I know. But this memory - did anyone need it? So, in my opinion, it was not the intellectuals that went bankrupt; these were those who decided that she deviated from the guideline (odbiegli od linii wytycznej)... they kind of ordered her to go bankrupt, to give up everything they had managed to save despite the years 1939-1945. And they tried to keep it, hide it, pass it on to others. Th at it didn’t fully work out? Well - let me repeat - nec Hercules contra plures (which I cannot translate in the language of Mr. Piecyk or Walery Wątróbka).

Erbium oxide (Er₂O₃) coating is one of the promising methods to restrict tritium permeation and the magneto hydrodynamic pressure drop for advanced breeding blanket systems. Er₂O₃ coating layer on large interior surface area of metal pipe is deposited by using metal organic chemical vapor deposition process. In this work, the influence of Cu²⁺ ion irradiation on microstructure of Er₂O₃ coating layer on stainless steel 316 (SUS 316) substrate by metal organic chemical vapor deposition methods was investigated using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy observation and X-ray diffraction analysis. Microstructure observation of Er₂O₃ coating was carried out after 0.00-1.50 dpa Cu²⁺ ion irradiation at 298 K and 773 K. Scanning electron microscopy observation of the surface area on Er₂O₃ thin film revealed the crack generation on surface after Cu²⁺ ion irradiation. X-ray diffraction peaks were identified in Er₂O₃ after Cu²⁺ ion irradiation transmission electron microscopy observations, the formation of interlayer between Er₂O₃ coating and SUS substrate was confirmed. According to transmission electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy, the interlayer includes Fe and Cr.

Opis:
The effect of gamma radiation in the range of 0-1409 MGy on the structure of a new mineral additive to cement based composites was investigated in the perspective of employing them as radioactive waste protection material. According to the authors knowledge, it is the first paper dealing with observations of the cement matrix, both pure and modified, treated with so giant radiation dose. The absorption of gamma radiation modifies the morphology of the additive grains, causes decomposition of cement hydrates and clinker relicts in cement paste containing the additive at twice higher radiation dose than that inducing the decomposition of the reference pure cement paste and the cement paste containing pozzolane additives.

Opis:
The studies of transport and optical properties of GaAs implanted with high arsenic doses were performed. As-implanted samples showed hopping conductivity and the exponential absorption tail in the near-IR region. Both effects were probably caused by the amorphization of implanted layer. Using EPR measurements it was found that arsenic antisite defect with high local strain field was created during implantation. Annealing of implanted layers at 600°C led to substantial removal of amorphization, decrease in absorption coefficient and hopping conductivity leading to resistive samples. The possible model of such behaviour may be similar to the one of suggested for low temperature GaAs layers.

The results of X-band electron paramagnetic resonance measurements of Mn2+ and Mn4+ ions in YAlO3 (YAP) crystals in the temperature range 100–300 K are presented. Additionally, we observe electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of unintentional impurities Fe3+ and Cr3+ in YAP crystals. The angular dependence for Mn ions in YAP crystals can be presented. We aim at obtaining a better insight into the spectroscopic properties of paramagnetic Mn centers and structural information about their nearest environment in YAP host and at determining the valence of manganese ion. In this paper we compare electron paramagnetic resonance spectra for Co and Mn ions in YAP crystals.

Opis:
Electrorheological (ER) fluids belong to the broadly studied class of so called "intelligent materials" whose properties are sensitive to external stimuli. The ER fluids increase their viscosity upon application of an electric field. This paper reports the results of electrorheological experiments and describes a synthetic procedure leading to an ER suspension exhibiting predetermined characteristics. The fluid was designed for application in a prototype ER clutch.
Ciecze elektroreologiczne (ER) należą do intensywnie badanej grupy tak zwanych inteligentnych materiałów, których właściwości można modyfikować za pomocą czynników zewnętrznych. Cechą charakterystyczną cieczy ER jest gwałtowny i odwracalny wzrost lepkości pod wpływem przyłożonego pola elektrycznego. Niniejsza praca zawiera wyniki eksperymentów elektroreologicznych i opis syntezy prowadzącej do otrzymania zawiesiny elektroreologicznej spełniającej określone parametry użytkowe. Ciecz została sporządzona w celu zastosowania w prototypowym sprzęgle elektroreologicznym.
