Opis:
Results concerning the morphology of Cu adsorption layers deposited from vapor under ultrahigh vacuum on Ir tip and the influence of oxygen on this morphology are reported. The method employed was field electron emission microscopy. It was found that the presence of oxygen decreases the copper wettability of iridium. Preadsorption of oxygen on the Ir surface is followed by an increase in cohesion interaction between atoms of the Cu deposited onto the tip at room temperature. Coadsorption of Cu and O on the Ir tip surface at liquid nitrogen temperature, when followed by gradually heating the adlayer, results in crystallization of the deposit in the temperature range from 430 K to about 700 K. Some evidence indicates the formation of Cu$\text{}_{2}$O with a high degree of crystallinity under these conditions. Cu and O coadsorption on the Ir surface at a temperature higher than 1090 K leads to selective accumulation of Cu on the {111} faces and to formation of epitaxial crystals which are oriented to the substrate in the same manner as the Cu crystals grown at ultra-high vacuum from Cu flux containing no oxygen. Oxygen incorporated into the Cu beam interact preferentially with {011} and {001} Ir faces, where it can produce oxide layers.

In this work, we studied the Raman spectra of thick polycrystalline $Cd_{1-x}Zn_x$ Te (CZT) films with x ranged from 0.06 to 0.68. Additionally, the surface morphology and structural properties were studied in order to determine the crystalline quality of the samples. The Raman spectra had a two-mode behavior typical for CZT solid solution and showed CdTe- and ZnTe-like longitudinal and transverse optical modes. The relationship between the frequencies of CdTe- and ZnTe-related modes on x was studied. We observed the deviation of the compositional dependence of phonon mode frequencies for polycrystalline CZT films in comparison with a similar dependence for CZT single crystals. Such deviation was caused by the effect of structural defects in polycrystalline films on frequencies of vibrational modes. The values of excitation wavelength, which allow achieving of high signal-to-noise ratio on the Raman spectra of CZT films with different zinc concentration in the result of resonant enhancement of phonon modes intensities, were experimentally determined.

The aim of this study was to reveal the influence of the heat treatment after welding of 17-7PH (X7CrNiAl17-7) steel on the microstructure evolution and the texture of the welds. Microstructure investigation carried out by light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy showed that the austenite and δ ferrite coexist in as-welded condition. Annealing at the temperature range between 400°C and 620°C after welding causes small changes in the microstructure and the hardness of the welds increases. Heat treatment at 760°C for 1 h resulted in the partial destabilization of the austenite. Aging after destabilization leads to tempering of the martensite: first the hardness increases and then decreases. The maximum hardness is observed when the ageing temperature reaches 510°C. XRD studies confirmed the presence of the two phases: δ ferrite and austenite. Annealing at 400°C/1 h and 550°C/1 h results in changes of the intensities for individual peaks derived from austenite and ferrite. The calculated ratios of peak intensity were compared with the intensities of the reference sample. The differences in intensities suggested strong texture of the material.

This paper investigates the inductive contribution to AC conductance in the granular nanocomposites $(Fe_{0.45}Co_{0.45}Zr_{0.10})_{x}(Al_2O_3)_{1-x}$. The initial nanocomposites studied were manufactured in $Ar+O_2$ atmosphere by ion-beam sputtering of the target containing $Fe_{0.45}Co_{0.45}Zr_{0.10}$ and alumina stripes and then subjected to the annealing procedure in air over the temperature range 373 K < $T_{a}$ < 873 K. These samples, before and after annealing, were studied using the temperature 77 K < $T_{p}$ < 300 K and frequency 50 Hz < f < 1 MHz dependences of a real part of the admittance σ(T, f). Analysis of the observed σ (f, $T_{p}$) dependences for x < 0.5 demonstrated that in the studied samples the equivalent circuits with the capacitive and noncoil-like inductive contributions can be accomplished. Just in this case, the capacitive properties of RLC circuit with the phase angle - 90° ≤ $\Theta_{L}$ < 0° are exhibited at low frequencies and the inductive properties with 0° ≤ $\Theta_{H}$ < 90° become apparent at high frequencies. A value of the critical frequency $f_{R}$, where $\Theta_{H}$ changes sign, depends on the metallic phase concentration x, measuring temperature $T_{p}$, and annealing temperature $T_{a}$.

The present work deals with the texture and microstructure development in high-manganese steel X85MnAl29-9. It was cold rolled to 50% reduction and then aged at 550°C for various times. The investigations included measurements of texture, X-ray phase analysis and microstructure observations. The results indicate that, when ageing takes place, precipitation of κ' carbide in an austenitic matrix and carbide κ at grain boundaries occur. The existence of satellites suggests that (Fe, Mn)₃AlC carbides were formed within the austenite matrix by spinodal decomposition.

We carried out scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy studies of Bi$\text{}_{2}$Te$\text{}_{3}$ surface, which, to the best of our knowledge, had not been attempted so far. We got images of surface of the material in many scales from micrometers to nanometers, which showed a layered structure of Bi$\text{}_{2}$Te$\text{}_{3}$, with many monoatomic terraces. We found agreement between measured heights and corresponding bulk crystal structure derived from X-ray data. In nanoscale we obtained an atomic resolution. Using scanning tunneling spectroscopy we carried out examination of the electronic structure. We observed different I-V characteristics and contrast on current imaging tunneling spectroscopy maps on non equivalent terraces. The dI/dV (~ density of states) curves referred to those terraces were compared with theoretically calculated by Larson et al. density of states derived from Bi p and Te-1 p orbitals. The analysis of our results allowed us to distinguish bismuth from tellurium planes.

Opis:
The evolution of iron silicide structure grown by solid state epitaxy on Si(111) vicinal surface was investigated by scanning tunnelling microscopy. The reactions, which occur on the surface, are compared for two various Fe coverages: 0.33 and 2 monolayers. The annealing at 250˚C does not enable substantial recovery of the surface ordering, deteriorated by Fe deposition at room temperature. The onset of 2×2 surface reconstruction is observed upon annealing at 400˚C. A three-dimensional growth tendency of iron silicide crystallites on a bare Si(111) 7×7 surface was found at 700˚C. In the case of 2 monolayer coverage crystallites nucleate along the edges of substrate terraces forming a regular array of nanometer size dots. Basing on atomically resolved spectroscopic effects and statistical considerations, structure of iron silicide nanocrystallites as well as Schottky-like character of the barrier at the interface between metallic crystallite and semiconducting substrate is deduced.

Barium titanate ceramics doped with 0.3 mol.% lanthanum and co-doped with 0.3 mol.% lanthanum and 0.05 mol.% manganese were investigated. The powders were prepared by a modified polymeric precursor method based on the Pechini process. The ceramics were obtained by sintering at 1300C for 8 h. The influence of dopants on structural changes and grain size reduction was analyzed. The presence of dopants influenced the tetragonality of the barium titanate crystal structure. Reduction of polygonal grain size with dopant addition was noticed. In the doped ceramics, characteristic phase transitions were shifted to lower temperatures in comparison with pure barium titanate. The dielectric permittivity value showed the tendency of a slight increase with lanthanum addition and further increase with adding of manganese. La as a single dopant increased the diffuseness of phase transitions indicating the formation of a diffuse ferroelectric material but in the co-doped ceramics the phase transition diffuseness decreased. The resistivity of the co-doped ceramics was higher than for lanthanum doped ceramics, indicating possible segregation of manganese at grain boundaries that influenced the total resistivity of the material.

Opis:
This study deals with the influence of the rolling asymmetry and applied strain on the crystallographic texture of polycrystalline copper. It was shown that textures of asymmetrically rolled materials are rotated with respect to those rolled symmetrically and the rotation angle increases both with the rolling asymmetry and strain. The asymmetric rolling leads also to a decrease of intensity of texture components forming skeleton lines in the orientation space. However, individual texture components exhibit different sensitivity to the effect of asymmetric rolling.

The temperature (T) dependence of roughening as assessed by scanning tunneling microscopy is compared for growth of Ag films on an 5-fold icosahedral Al-Pd-Mn quasicrystal surface and on an ξ'-approximant. Growth on the quasicrystal corresponds to a version of the Volmer-Weber growth, but modified by quantum size effects, and also by kinetic smoothening at low T and low coverages (θ). Growth on the approximant corresponds to a version of the Stranski-Krastanov growth modified by kinetic roughening at low T and low θ. For larger θ, i.e., for thicker films, distinct behavior is observed.

Edukacja jest podstawowym prawem człowieka, powszechnie uznawanym za środek postępu i główny sposób kształtowania świadomości oraz sposób rozumienia koncepcji zrównoważonego rozwoju (ZR). Zrównoważony rozwój, jako powszechnie uznawany paradygmat wskazujący potrzebę ochrony środowiska przyrodniczego i zachowania go dla przyszłych pokoleń, wprowadzany jest do programów kształcenia w edukacji szkolnej i akademickiej. W niniejszym opracowaniu zastosowano innowacyjną metodę oznaczania śladu ekologicznego Ecological Footprint (EF) za pomocą kalkulatora jako narzędzia dydaktycznego. Badaniami objęto studentów pedagogiki, wykorzystując ogólnodostępny test kalkulatora EF ze strony: www.footprintnetwork.org/. Zastosowanie testu wskazało, że spełnia on funkcje przypisywane środkom dydaktycznym, ponadto jest nowoczesny i ogólnodostępny. Otrzymane wartości EF wśród badanych studentów różniły się od średnich wartości EF obliczonych dla Polski, UE i Świata. Znajomość własnego EF i porównanie go ze średnią dla grupy, kraju i świata pozwala podjąć odpowiednie kroki, aby zmienić swoje zachowania. Wprowadzenie kalkulatora jako narzędzia edukacyjnego przyczyniło się do osobistego zainteresowania badanych przestrzeganiem zasad zrównoważonego rozwoju, co w dalszym czasie może prowadzić do proekologicznych zachowań, a tym samym przyczynić się do powstrzymania zmian klimatycznych. Kalkulator EF jako środek dydaktyczny może być przydatny zarówno w kształceniu formalnym, jak i nieformalnym.
Education is a basic human right, widely recognized as a means of progress and the main way to create awareness and understanding of the concept of sustainable development (SD). Sustainability, as a widely recognized paradigm indicating the need to protect the natural environment and preserve it for future generations, is being introduced into educational curricula in school and academic education. In this study, an innovative method of determining the Ecological Footprint (EF) was used using  in terms of a teaching tool. The study included pedagogy students who were using  a publicly available EF calculator test from www.footprintnetwork.org. The use of the test indicated that it fulfills the functions attributed to didactic measures. Moreover, it is modern and publicly available. The obtained EF values of the studied students differed from the average EF values calculated for Poland, the EU and the World. Knowing one's own EF and comparing it with the average for the group, the country and the world allows one to take appropriate steps to change one's behavior. The introduction of the calculator as an educational tool contributed to the respondents' personal interest in adhering to the principles of sustainable development, which in further time can lead to pro-environmental behavior and thus contribute to stopping climate change. The EF calculator as a teaching tool can be useful in both formal and informal education.

Excitation of nonlinear acoustic monopulses, or baseband waves, is theoretically analyzed. The monopulses have a wide spectrum up till the gigahertz range ≤ 1 GHz. The propagation of waves is along the interface between a solid film and a solid substrate. A quadratic elastic nonlinearity in both contacting media of the system is taken into account. The nonlinear dynamics of waves depends essentially on the thickness of the film. The transverse inhomogeneity of the wave profile in the interface plane and the wave diffraction are taken into account, too. The baseband waves are not true solitons and manifest as single shock-like pulses in the case of an excitation from initial long rectangular pulses. The transverse inhomogeneity affects the dynamics of the shocks, and there is a possibility to focus the nonlinear monopulses.

Severe plastic deformation by cold-rolling in martensitic state was applied to Ni_{50.4}Ti_{49.6} shape memory alloy. Received materials with 17, 20, 25, and 35% deformation were further annealed at 450°C for 15 min. After such treatment hardness of this alloy increased significantly reaching 365 HV0.5 for highest deformation degree. Calorimetric studies revealed two-stage and two-step character of martensitic transformation occurring in all specimens. Nanocrystalline structure with average grain size 53, 34, 28, and 24 nm was obtained. In material with 35% of deformation amorphous regions containing a nuclei of B2 parental phase with average size of 5 nm were observed. To determine the crystallographic orientation of observed nanograins and for better phase analysis, electron beam precession transmission electron microscopy orientation mapping was performed.

Opis:
Due to unique features, like shape memory effects and superelasticity, NiTi alloys with nearly equiatomic composition are used in various branches of industry. Application of severe plastic deformation can drastically change properties of the materials. In the present paper the Ni_{50.4}Ti_{49.6} alloy after cold rolling in the martensitic state and further annealed is studied. Phase transformations were studied using X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry measurements. Microstructure was examined using transmission electron microscopy and electron backscattering diffraction methods. Mechanical properties of obtained alloys has been studied using Vickers microhardness tests. Based on the performed measurements it can be seen that in studied alloys two steps B2 ↔ R ↔ B19' phase transitions occurred. Performed plastic deformation influences course of phase transitions and phases composition. Due to the reduction of grain size microhardness of the studied material is increasing with increase of deformation degree.
