Opis:
This study deals with the influence of the rolling asymmetry and applied strain on the crystallographic texture of polycrystalline copper. It was shown that textures of asymmetrically rolled materials are rotated with respect to those rolled symmetrically and the rotation angle increases both with the rolling asymmetry and strain. The asymmetric rolling leads also to a decrease of intensity of texture components forming skeleton lines in the orientation space. However, individual texture components exhibit different sensitivity to the effect of asymmetric rolling.

Opis:
The analyzed perycope of the Letter to Ephesians is one of the nicest and theologically richest texts about the peace in whole the Bible. It presents the peace as result of the reconciliation of the men mutually and with God at the same time. The concept of peace used here has a broader sense, typical of the Bible. It means not only the lack of the war, but also full agreement, harmony and communion with God and with the men. The Letter to the Ephesians is showing us, that the authentic peace includes a profound renovation of the interpersonal relations among men and with God. The reconciliation made by Christ is valid help for reaching the true peace also in the contemporaneous world.

Zbadano relacje między stężeniami mikro- i makropierwiastków zakumulowanych w porostach (Hypogymnia physodes), mchach (Pleurozium schreberi) i w glebie (próchnicy nadkładowej). Próbki pobrano w 5 miejscach na obszarze Borów Stobrawskich, położonych na północny wschód od miasta Opola (południowa Polska). Pierwiastki oznaczano metodą instrumentalnej neutronowej analizy aktywacyjnej (37 pierwiastków) oraz absorpcyjnej spektrometrii atomowej (6 pierwiastków). W próbkach metodą spektrometrii gamma zbadano także aktywność 137Cs. Wskazano na prawdopodobne, liniowe zależności między stężeniami: Mg, Al, Ti, V, Cr, Fe, Co, As, Se, Sr, Mo, Sb, I, Ba, La, Ce, Sm, Tb, Tm, Yb, Ta, Th i U a stężeniem skandu w porostach, mchach i w glebie. Do interpretacji wyników wykorzystano współczynnik wzbogacenia (EF).
The relations between the concentrations of micro- and macroelements accumulated in lichens (Hypogymnia physodes), mosses (Pleurozium schreberi) and ground (soil humus) were discussed. The concentration of the elements was measured using the NAA analysis for 37 elements, and AAS for Cu, Cd and Pb. In addition, the activity of 137Cs in the samples was measured using gamma spectrometry. Probable linear relations were observed between the concentrations of Mg, Al, Ti, V, Cr, Fe, Co, As, Se, Sr, Mo, Sb, I, Ba, La, Ce, Sm, Tb, Tm, Yb, Ta, Th and U, and the concentration of scandium in lichens, mosses and soil. For data interpretation the Enrichment Factors (EF) were used.

We introduce and investigate by numerical simulations a number of models of emotional agents at the square lattice. Our models describe the most general features of emotions such as the spontaneous emotional arousal, emotional relaxation, and transfers of emotions between different agents. Group emotions in the considered models are periodically fluctuating between two opposite valency levels and as result the mean value of such group emotions is zero. The oscillations amplitude depends strongly on probability p_{s} of the individual spontaneous arousal. For small values of relaxation times τ we observed a stochastic resonance, i.e. the signal to noise ratio SNR is maximal for a non-zero $p_{s}$ parameter. The amplitude increases with the probability p of local affective interactions while the mean oscillations period increases with the relaxation time τ and is only weakly dependent on other system parameters. Presence of emotional antenna can enhance positive or negative emotions and for the optimal transition probability the antenna can change agents emotions at longer distances. The stochastic resonance was also observed for the influence of emotions on task execution efficiency.

Learning is a complex cognitive process that depends not only on an individual capability of knowledge absorption but it can be also influenced by various group interactions and by the structure of an academic curriculum. We have applied methods of statistical analyses and data mining (principal component analysis and maximal spanning tree) for anonymized students' scores at Faculty of Physics, Warsaw University of Technology. A slight negative linear correlation exists between mean and variance of course grades, i.e. courses with higher mean scores tend to possess a lower scores variance. There are courses playing a central role, e.g. their scores are highly correlated to other scores and they are in the centre of corresponding maximal spanning trees. Other courses contribute significantly to students' score variance as well to the first principal component and they are responsible for differentiation of students' scores. Correlations of the first principal component to courses' mean scores and scores variance suggest that this component can be used for assigning ECTS points to a given course. The analysis is independent of declared curricula of considered courses. The proposed methodology is universal and can be applied for analysis of students' scores and academic curriculum at any faculty.

In this contribution we present the design and first results of a new generation of variable temperature scanning probe microscope that has been developed to enhance the performance in tunnelling spectroscopy at lower temperatures. Its performance has been proven with imaging and spectroscopy experiments on the well known Si(111), Au(111), and Ag(111) surfaces.

The increases in strain hardening observed for the in-plane tensile deformation of well-aged magnesium alloy AZ31 are related to a transition from basal to non-basal slip. Based on the results of texture measurements, the double prismatic slip is proposed as the dominant secondary mechanism. The necessary fast strengthening of the basal slip is modelled by an accommodation contribution to the grain boundary resistance. The transition may be consistently modelled by involving the accommodation rather than the production of new sessile dislocations into the evolution laws for dislocation populations.

In this work, we studied the Raman spectra of thick polycrystalline $Cd_{1-x}Zn_x$ Te (CZT) films with x ranged from 0.06 to 0.68. Additionally, the surface morphology and structural properties were studied in order to determine the crystalline quality of the samples. The Raman spectra had a two-mode behavior typical for CZT solid solution and showed CdTe- and ZnTe-like longitudinal and transverse optical modes. The relationship between the frequencies of CdTe- and ZnTe-related modes on x was studied. We observed the deviation of the compositional dependence of phonon mode frequencies for polycrystalline CZT films in comparison with a similar dependence for CZT single crystals. Such deviation was caused by the effect of structural defects in polycrystalline films on frequencies of vibrational modes. The values of excitation wavelength, which allow achieving of high signal-to-noise ratio on the Raman spectra of CZT films with different zinc concentration in the result of resonant enhancement of phonon modes intensities, were experimentally determined.

The paper presents our recent investigations of the early stage growth of titanium silicides on a modified Si(100) substrate. The substrate was modified by deposition of a minute amount of Ni atoms, and the subsequent flash annealing. This process led to the creation of parallel defect lines on the Si(100) surface. We expected TiSi_2 to form elongated structures on top and/or between the defect lines. Though this idea failed, stable nanostructures were observed and characterized using scanning probe microscopy (scanning tunneling microscopy and atomic force microscopy) methods.

Opis:
The main goal of this work is to establish the influence of annealing on the properties of Cz-Si wafers previously subjected to the hydrogen ion-beam treatment at 25 or 300-350°C. It is demonstrated by the conducted study that, despite similarity in the effects of the hydrogen ion-beam treatment at different temperatures on some electrical properties of the wafers (photovoltage spectra, thermoelectromotive force sign), thermal stability of changes in these properties due to the hydrogen ion-beam treatment depends on the hydrogenation temperature.

Opis:
The electric and photoelectric properties of very thin discontinuous antimony films deposited on an insulating (sapphire) substrate were investigated in order to explain the "surfactant" role of Sb atoms in the growth of other metal films on this substrate. The results show that the properties of pure Sb films on a sapphire are similar to those observed for other metals and cannot explain an essential change in the growth of Ag, Au, Ga and other metals when the substrate is pre-germinated with antimony.

Opis:
Low-temperature scanning tunneling spectroscopy is used to study the Ag(111) surface state over an unprecedented range of junction resistances. The presence of the tip causes a shift of the surface state towards higher binding energies, increasingly stronger as the resistance decreases. A one-dimensional model calculation reproduces this observation and provides a connection to existing photoemission spectroscopy data. Implications of the effect on STS studies are discussed.

Scanning tunneling spectroscopy is used to study the dispersive wave vectors of the local-density-of-states modulations in near-optimal Bi$\text{}_{2}$Sr$\text{}_{2}$CaCu$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{8+δ}$. Atomic-resolution energy-resolved spectroscopic images are acquired in a 650Å field of view on the BiO cleave surface of these crystals at 4.2 K. Fourier transforms are used to measure the wave vectors of spatial modulations in the local density of states. At sub-gap energies, up to 16 inequivalent sets of dispersive wave vectors are observed. When analyzed within a model of quasiparticle scattering-induced interference between a characteristic "octet" of states in momentum-space, they yield an estimate of the Fermi-surface location and the energy gap |Δ(k)| in agreement with angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. At energies approaching the gap-maximum, the local-density-of-states modulations become intense, commensurate with the crystal, and localized by the apparent nanoscale domains. This may indicate that the lifetimes of the k=(π/a$\text{}_{0}$,0) quasiparticles are determined by nanoscale disorder scattering.

Opis:
Scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy as well as atomic force microscopy were applied to study the non-structural and nanoelectronic properties of periodic nickel nanoparticles deposited on n-silicon substrates. Periodic nickel (Ni) nanoparticles were prepared by using nanosphere lithography and analyzed by scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. By the evaporation of Ni perfectly ordered nanoparticles were produced and very good correlation between latex mask was observed. Finally, tunneling spectroscopy performed with non-magnetic tip yield information about local electronic properties of nanoscale structures at surface.

We carried out scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy studies of Bi$\text{}_{2}$Te$\text{}_{3}$ surface, which, to the best of our knowledge, had not been attempted so far. We got images of surface of the material in many scales from micrometers to nanometers, which showed a layered structure of Bi$\text{}_{2}$Te$\text{}_{3}$, with many monoatomic terraces. We found agreement between measured heights and corresponding bulk crystal structure derived from X-ray data. In nanoscale we obtained an atomic resolution. Using scanning tunneling spectroscopy we carried out examination of the electronic structure. We observed different I-V characteristics and contrast on current imaging tunneling spectroscopy maps on non equivalent terraces. The dI/dV (~ density of states) curves referred to those terraces were compared with theoretically calculated by Larson et al. density of states derived from Bi p and Te-1 p orbitals. The analysis of our results allowed us to distinguish bismuth from tellurium planes.
