    Poszczególnym poziomom SIL projektowanego systemu elektrycznego/elektronicznego/programowalnego elektr onicznego E/E/PE (BPCS lub SIS) odpowiadają ilościowe kryteria probabilistyczne. Dowód spełnienia przez system zabezpieczeń wymagań SIL nazywa się weryfikacją. Model probabilistyczny dowolnego systemu zabezpieczeń SIS można przedstawić za pomocą schematów blokowych niezawodności RBD, grafów Markowa, równań uproszczonych oraz drzew niezdatności FTA. W niniejszym referacie przedstawiono wykorzystanie metod (w ramach aktualizacji metodyki analiz bezpieczeństwa funkcjonalnego) weryfikacji SIL z uwzględnieniem zagadnień ochrony informacji m.in. poprzez wykorzystanie w tym procesie poziomów uzasadnionego zaufania EAL, lub przypisaniu analizowanemu systemowi stopnia ochrony informacji na podstawie liczby pierścieni zabezpieczeniowo ochronnych wg metodyki SeSa - SINTEF, wraz z uwzględnieniem klasyfikacji systemów rozproszonych, w module weryfikacji SIL autorskiego oprogramowania ProSILEAL.
    The article addresses some important issues of the functional safety analysis, namely the safety integrity level (SIL) verification of distributed control and protection systems with regard to security aspects. A quantitative method for SIL (IEC 61508, 61511) verification, based on so called evaluation assurance levels (EAL) and Secure Safety (SeSa) methodology, is presented. In this article is described a prototype ProSIL-EAL software system for computer-aided functional safety management. In ProSIL-EAL the methods (e.g. veryfying the SIL level of SIS) concerning functional safety analysis in the process of the design and operation of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) with security aspects are implemented according to PN-EN 61508, PN-EN 61511, ISO/IEC 15408 standards and SeSa - SINTEF methodology.

    The present exploratory study investigated adolescent experiences (N = 84) at a multilingual London college to provide evidence of the psychological factors underlying language-driven effort. It was assessed in a group of students with either English as First Language (EFL) or English as an Additional Language (EAL) status, speaking English to varying degrees, concerning their personal characteristics and environment. The impact of language status and category on such an effort was explored in volunteers of all year groups, using a new theory- and practice-based Language-driven Effort Questionnaire. Differences in language-driven effort among groups with diverse language statuses occurred. EAL students put in more effort, perceiving their environment as motivating and supportive, which was reciprocal, regardless of proficiency. Also, the language category was important for early EAL learners who struggled and were sometimes lonely. The results showed that the sources of language-driven efforts in multilingual settings are both personal and environmental. The need to analyse the individual situation and use flexible methods in the classroom were signalled for the benefit of all pupils who differ in language attributes.

    W niniejszym artykule przedstawiona została problematyka związana z analizą bezpieczeństwa funkcjonalnego rozproszonych systemów sterowania i automatyki zabezpieczeniowej z uwzględnieniem zagadnień ochrony informacji. Powinny być one rozpatrywane w sposób zintegrowany w zależności od rodzaju komunikacji stosowanej do transmisji danych. W tym celu zaproponowano podział analizowanych systemów na trzy kategorie. Zaproponowane podejście zilustrowano na przykładzie rozproszonego systemu monitoringu i sterowania, który może korzystać z różnych kanałów przesyłu informacji.
    The aim of this paper is to present some issues of the functional safety analysis of the distributed control, monitoring and protection systems including information security aspects. These aspects should be considered in an integrated way depending on the types of communication channels used. The classification of analyzed systems into three categories is proposed. The conventional functional safety assessment based on IEC 61508 and integrated with some information security aspects, based on ISO/IEC 15408, are presented. Proposed approach is illustrated by an example of distributed, monitoring, control and protection system using different communication channels.

    The paper discusses the current situation of Polish children in English schools, with the presentation of data available nationally as well as the results of a chosen local research project carried in London schools. The basic information on recent Polish migration is given, along with the description of the main tenets of the English education system. The factors which impact the educational well-being of Polish pupils are analysed, with the special emphasis put on the EAL management strategies and solutions. As there is no national data on educational achievements of Polish children, the results of EAL children as well as pupils from the Other White category are briefly presented and compared to the results of the White British and native English speakers’ groups. Finally, the role and the expectations of Polish parents are discussed.

    The aim of this article is to identify problems of the risk assessment of the electric / electronic / programmable electronic (E/E/PE) systems concentrating on the functional safety and security aspects. These aspects should be considered in an integrated way in the system life cycle. The role of functional safety solutions is effective reducing the risk from unacceptable level. The risk is defined as a combination of the probability of occurrence of harm and the severity of that harm. Security is concerned with the protection of assets including the E/E/PE systems or safety instrumented systems (SISs) from potential threats including cyber attacks. This article deals with current challenges and methodological issues of integrating the functional safety and security aspects of the programmable systems’ operation for the control and protection of hazardous industrial systems.

    This exploratory study represents an attempt to investigate the factors that may affect the reading comprehension abilities of English as an additional language (EAL) learners. For this study, we examined a participant group of 31 (25 EAL and 6 first language English) learners studying at an international school in Japan. We assessed the participants according to four factors shown to influence reading comprehension: vocabulary knowledge, word decoding skills, reading fluency, and general linguistic ability. Our results show that differences in vocabulary knowledge show more variance in reading comprehension scores than the other factors examined in this study, highlighting the importance of vocabulary knowledge for reading comprehension. However, other factors such as reading fluency and general linguistic knowledge are also shown to be moderate to strong predictors of reading comprehension. Based on these results, we suggest that EAL learners need targeted language support to enhance academic text comprehension.

    The work is devoted important issues of the management in maritime critical infrastructure of functional safety analysis, in particular the safety integrity level (SIL) verification of safety functions to be implemented within the distributed control and protection systems with regard to cyber security aspects. A method based on quantitative and qualitative information is proposed for the SIL (IEC 61508, 61511) verification with regard of the evaluation assurance levels (EAL) (ISO/IEC 15408), the security assurance levels (SAL) (IEC 62443), and the number of protection rings described in the Secure Safety (SeSa-SINTEF) methodology. The proposed approach will be composed of the following items: process and procedure based safety and cyber security management, integrated safety and security assessment of industrial control system (ICS) of the maritime critical infrastructure. Proposed methodology is illustrated on case study that based on the part of installation critical maritime infrastructure.

    Government policymakers (both Fed and U.S. Treasury) remain puzzled over the lack of vigor in the post-Great Recession recovery of 2010 to 2017, blaming it in part on a slowdown in productivity growth and the retirement of workers. But an equally plausible explanation lies in their failure to recognize the importance of the Incentive Reward Complex in providing an improved springboard for economic growth. Support for this hypothesis lies in the Fed’s data base, along with evidence that fails to support stimulus policies of both the U.S. Treasury and the Fed. Rather than more of these types of government interventions, we may need fewer of them along with more of the culture of incentives and rewards.

    A security level of distributed control and protection system may have a significant impact on the results of functional safety analysis. However, the issue of integrating the safety and security aspects is difficult and usually is neglected during the functional safety analysis. This article presents a method of functional safety analysis which takes into consideration a concept of integrating these two aspects. It is based on proposed classification of communication channels used in the computer system / network and the scope of such system distribution. The functional safety analysis is to be performed at every stage of system lifecycle, but one of the most important parts is defining required safety functions and determining the safety integrity level for them. The integration concept might be taken into account at this stage. The basis of a method proposed is the assumption that the security level is considered as a risk parameter in graphs of functional safety analyses.
