The paper presents an idea of predicting durability of concrete structures with steel reinforcement under conditions of chloride and carbonation corrosion risk. Mechanisms of destruction due to steel corrosion in such conditions are shown. The recently elaborated model of carbonation and general model of chloride diffusion have been discussed. An algorithm of the rest service life time prognosis has been shown and options of its main stages realization have been done. An example of durability prognosis for pre-stressed hollow-core floor slab with upper layer of concrete and epoxy-resin coating has been given. This example confirms the usefulness of the described prognosis method and demonstrates its helpfulness in a structure management according to the standards of EN 1504 series.

The article evaluates durability of punches and cutting tools when cutting of the cut-outs. Durability of punches made of the same material without coating, with the TiCN-MP coating and with the TiN coating is compared. Durability is evaluated by the tolerance of the cut-outs. Border durability, which requires grinding of the tool, is a determined durability, at which the deviation of the tolerance of a cut-out is at the lowest border. By comparing the dependency of change of the holes’ dimensions on the number of strokes in the case of all three types of punches, it can be stated that the durability increased by 10–12 times in the case of the tools with coatings.

The aim of the study is to show the improvements on durability of prestressed concrete elements by introducing in concrete mass a certain quantity of fibres. Random distributed fibres provide a significant increase in the tensile strength, having also favourable consequence on other mechanical and durability characteristics. The prestressed concrete elements are under a permanent stress state that is not optimal in all their sections and zones. One of the most unfavourable effects is the reduction of material durability, especially in aggressive environments, in which prestressed reinforcements are more sensitive to utilization than reinforced concrete components. The authors present the result brought up by the use of steel fibres in the improvement of the durability of concrete elements, in relation with the volumetric steel ratio, and the geometrical ratio of steel fibres, leading to a favourable effect on prestressing efficiency.

The paper presents example tests of the functional quality of selected designs of dental bridges. These were: porcelain bridges on a metal base (cobalt based alloy), porcelain bridges on a zirconia base (zirconia ceramic – Zirkon Zahn), and full zirconia bridges (Zirkon Zahn). For the purpose of the study, durability of bridges in cyclic fatigue testing was adopted as a measure of their quality. The tests were carried out on a Zwick Roell Z010 universal testing machine. They consisted in cyclic loading and unloading of dental bridges mounted on gypsum models at a loading force of F= 400 [N] and a frequency of load of f= 1 [Hz]. Each bridge was subjected to a cycle of 7200 loads. The results show that there are no significant differences in the functional quality of the bridges.

The article presents the issues of the durability of lifting ropes and balance ropes operated in selected shafts of deep mines. The basic causes of hoisting ropes wear are described, the methods of steel ropes wear evaluation are given, as well as the hoisting ropes durability evaluation criteria. The authors also present selected results from the extension of hoisting ropes. The article ends with some conclusions resulting from the research. The article has also been provided with photos showing the measuring equipment used to assess the durability of steel and steel-rubber ropes. The article presents the criteria for assessing the durability of lifting ropes.

Nowadays, the application of cold formed steel elements in construction is becoming very popular due to several advantages like Speedy construction, higher strength to weight ratio, dimensional stability and recycled material. Besides, cold formed steel section has some undesirable properties that create challenges for its use in construction. The very small thickness makes it vulnerable to the different type of buckling, web crippling, torsional failure and also susceptible to fire. To overcome these challenges and utilize the advantages of cold formed steel element by improving its properties, important research works are being carried out all over the world. There are guidelines and specifications available in different codes of cold formed steel structure and it makes engineers confident in the application of cold formed steel elements in construction. The objective of this study is to represent an introduction of cold formed steel structure by reviewing the behavior, material properties, production methods, classification of cold formed steel elements. It also discusses the codes and guideline available for cold formed steel structure, important design criteria, connection, methods and durability issues based on some excellent researches.

The laws that govern the durability of crankshaft-piston assembly friction nodes can be proved or at least derived or justified in an intuitive way. Operation of all the friction nodes is disturbed by external factors occurring with randomly changing intensity and also appearing at random. As the crankshaft-piston assembly friction nodes have a series structure and effects of those disturbances accumulate, their fitness for use period can be presented as an image of appearing disturbances with determined effects. This can be done on the probability distribution basis. The crankshaft-piston assembly usual wear and tear process is long, therefore images of the appearing disturbances should be characterised by the degree of wear, i.e. the change of the friction node durability, which is a subject of the Markov chain process. The friction node surface durability is an effect of many factors (e.g. stress pattern in the contact area, the surface material hardness, chemical properties of the surface material etc.). However, among those mentioned the least known effect is that of the properties of lubricating agent on the fatigue strength of friction node elements in the crankshaft-piston assemblies. Therefore, the paper presents a reliability model allowing estimating the fatigue wear of friction nodes in the crankshaft-piston assembly, operating in a lubrication contact with different loads, temperatures and speeds.

This paper studies the use of cockle shell as supplementary cementitious materials SCMs as substitute for cement. The cockle shells generally have a high CaO content which can alter the behavior and the properties of mortars and concrete. Cockle shell is used with weight ratios of 5, 10, 15 and 20% to formulate a mortar with cockle shell and a control mortar CM with 0% of cockle shell. The properties in the fresh state, the mechanical strength and the weight loss test as well as the depth of penetration of each mixture were carried out through the conducted experiments. Consistency and density of fresh mortars were determined, the results obtained showed that cockle shell have a significant influence on the properties of mortars in the fresh state. The different results of hardened mortars show that the introduction of cockle shell tends to accelerate the development kinetics of strength at the young age but its ratio cannot be above of 5%. Mortar with 10% presented the lower depth penetration, the loss weight increased proportionally with the increasing of cockle shell amount.

The article presents the structures of porous slide bearing bushes and greasy lubricants, and the similarity criterion resulting from these structures. A physical model is proposed which describes the operation of the porous slide bearing bush taking into account, via analogy, the phenomena taking place in the greasy lubricant nodes instead of those observed in the bush structures. Included are the results of experimental tests of three greasy lubricants which allow transferring the results recorded in model experiments to real objects.

Celem pracy było określenie wpływu wilgotności słomy na trwałość wykonanych z niej brykietów. Do analizy wykorzystano słomę żytnią, pszenną oraz rzepakową o czterech poziomach wilgotności (6,10,15 i 20%). Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań stwierdzono, że najlepsza wilgotność słomy do brykietowania przy ciśnieniu 48 MPa zawiera się w przedziale od 10 do 15%. Ze słomy o wilgotności 20% nie można było wyprodukować brykietów o akceptowalnej trwałości. Największą trwałością wyróżniały się brykiety ze słomy rzepakowej (ich trwałość mieściła się w przedziale od 90% do 97%). Najmniejszą jakość miały natomiast brykiety ze słomy żytniej (trwałość od 84% do 96%).
The purpose of the study was to determine the influence of straw moisture on durability of briquettes made of it. Rye straw, wheat straw and rape straw at four levels of moisture (6, 10, 15 and 20%). Based on the conducted research it was determined that the best moisture of straw for briquetting at pressure of 48 MPa is between the range of 10 to 15%. Briquettes of acceptable durability could not be produced out of the straw of 20% moisture content. Rape straw briquettes were the most durable (their durability was between 90 to 97%). Rye straw briquettes were of the worst quality (durability from 84% to 96%).

The aim of prestened study was to determine the natural durability of selected coniferous wood species from Asia to the effect of Coniophora puteana (Schumach.) P. Karst., which causes brown rot. The species tested were: Larix gmellini (Rupr.) Kuzen., Larix sibirica Ledeb. and Pinus sibirica Du Tour.. The test was conducted on the basis of PN-EN 350:2016-10 and PN-EN 113:2000. As a result of the research durability classes were determined. Wood durability of tested Asian species was compared with the domestic wood species such as Pinus sylvestris L. and Larix decidua Mill.. The most durable of the tested wood species was Larix sibirica Ledeb., while the European larch showed comparable durability. The wood of Larix gmellini (Rupr.) Kuzen. showed the lowest persistence among the tested species.
Badanie naturalnej trwałości wybranych drewna iglastego gatunków z Azji Północnej poddanych działaniu grzyba Coniophora puteana (Schumach.) P. Karst. Praca dotyczy określenia naturalnej trwałości drewna wybranych gatunków iglastych pochodzących z Azji wobec działania grzyba C. puteana, powodującego brunatny rozkład drewna. Zakresem badań objeto drewno twardzieli drewna Larix gmellini (Rupr.) Kuzen., Larix sibirica Ledeb. and Pinus sibirica Du Tour.. Badanie zostało przeprowadzone w oparciu o normy PN-EN 350:2016-10 i PN-EN 113:2000. W wyniku badania określono klasy trwałości oraz porównano trwałość z drewnem krajowym sosny zwyczajnej (Pinus sylvestris L.) i modrzewia europejskiego (Larix decidua Mill.). Badania wykazały, iż najtrwalszym z pośród badanych gatunków drewna jest L. sibirica, przy czym L. decidua wykazał porównywalną trwałość. Najniższą trwałość z pośród badanych gatunków odnotowano dla drewna L. gmellini.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań eksploatacyjnych dotyczących trwałości elementów roboczych młyna wirnikowego. Jego tarcza i bijaki zostały wykonane ze stali 40HM ulepszanej cieplnie. Materiałem poddanym mikronizacji była okrywa nasienna ziarna owsa o wilgotności nie przekraczającej 8%. Jako parametr określający zużycie przyjęto wydajność procesu mikronizacji. Jego spadek o 30% przyjęto za granicę opłacalności procesu i moment, w którym należy wymienić elementy robocze w postaci bijaków. Na podstawie badań wyznaczono czas pracy bijaków nie powodujący istotnego zmniejszenia wydajności, który wynosi dla badanych parametrów i materiałów 50 h.
The paper presents the results of operational tests aimed at verifying the durability of a rotor mill’s working components. Its rotor and beaters were made of heat-treated 40HM steel. The material subjected to micronisation was oat grain seed coats with a moisture content not exceeding 8%. Micronisation process efficiency was assumed as the parameter determining equipment wear. Its decrease by 30% was set as the process profitability limit and the moment when the working components, beaters, should be replaced. Conducted research allowed the working time of beaters without a significant efficiency loss to be determined – 50 h for the tested parameters and materials.

The present paper is comparing the results of research studies carried out for three road acoustic screens of different design and different number of damping layers. For the tests, we selected timber or steel screens with a traditional multilayer structure and also one innovative type of simplified design. With respect to particular panels, their sound absorption properties were investigated in the reverberation chamber after they had been subjected to simulated weathering. In the process, two screens were subjected to the aging tests of 50-500 cycles in a special climatic chamber, and the innovative screens were subjected to 1000 cycles. The procedure was repeated every 50 or 100 cycles in order to obtain the changes of acoustic characteristics. The changes taking place in the absorbing material were also investigated with the use of scanning electron microscopy method (SEM). Basing on the obtained results and on the statistical analysis, the capability to maintain acoustic properties by the panels during their service life in natural conditions was estimated. For that purpose, linear statistical models were worked out, which were then applied to estimate the value of the single number sound absorption coefficient after successive aging cycles as well as the predicted time periods of acoustic class changes.

This paper presents a way of determining distribution of limit state exceedence time by a diagnostic parameter which determines accuracy of maintaining zero state. For calculations it was assumed that the diagnostic parameter is deviation from nominal value (zero state). Change of deviation value occurs as a result of destructive processes which occur during service. For estimation of deviation increasing rate in probabilistic sense, was used a difference equation from which, after transformation, Fokker-Planck differential equation was obtained [4, 11]. A particular solution of the equation is deviation increasing rate density function which was used for determining exceedance probability of limit state. The so-determined probability was then used to determine density function of limit state exceedance time, by increasing deviation. Having at disposal the density function of limit state exceedance time one determined service life of a system of maladjustment. In the end, a numerical example based on operational data of selected aircraft [weapon] sights was presented. The elaborated method can be also applied to determining residual life of shipboard devices whose technical state is determined on the basis of analysis of values of diagnostic parameters.
