W rozdziale trzecim przedstawiono polskie biblioteki cyfrowe w kontekście europejskim, a w szczególności umiejscowienie lokalnych i regionalnych cyfrowych zasobów dziedzictwa kulturowego w infrastrukturze europejskiej bibliotekicyfrowej Europeana.
In the article we present the stages of building of Polish digital libraries infrastructure and the role of local and regional digital resources at the national and European level. The first chapter presents the most important issues related to online access of cultural heritage. In the second chapter we present crucial stages of the development of the Polish digital libraries network. Third chapter presents the idea and mission of the Digital Libraries Federation. The fourth chapter describes Polish digital libraries in the European context, focusing on matters related to local and regional digital resources and its location in the Europeana information space. The last chapter acts as a summary.

Higher education allows people with disabilities to build self-realization and self-esteem. It prevents social exclusion, redeems deficiencies and increases the chances to find a job. For over 10 years the number of students with disabilities has been increasing in Poland. Students with visual impairment (blind and partially sighted) are included in this group. One of the barriers they face in the academic environment is difficulty of reaching the accessible form of educational materials. Rapidly developing assistive technologies allow them to overcome this barrier. Collections of digital documents addressed to students with visual impairment are helpful in this context. The aim of the article is to give a description of Polish digital libraries addressed to visually impaired students and their role in higher education. To collect necessary data websites of all (96) Polish public higher schools subordinated to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education were analysed. Important information the author acquired also came from individuals involved in building digital resources targeted at students with visual impairment. The methods of literature analysis and criticism were also used. Study has shown that only a few public higher schools participate in projects on establishing digital collections accessible for students with disabilities. These collections are getting richer every year.

The article presents the questions concerning digital libraries. The aims for their establishment have been discussed and the most interesting Polish examples presented. The author, on the basis of the selected collections highlights the role the digital libraries may play in the workshop of a researcher - regionalist. Moreover, he demonstrates their significance as a tool supporting didactic process. From among several dozen o f Polish virtual libraries, the author focuses especially on Wielkopolska Biblioteka Cyfrowa (Great Polish Digital Library) and Kujawsko-Pomorska Biblioteka Cyfrowa (Kujavian-Pomeranian Digital Library) as the biggest and most interesting projects of this kind.

Nowadays we are continuously bombarded with a lot of information, and because of it we have serious problems with accessing the relevant information, that is, we suffer from the information overload problems. Recommender systems have been applied successfully to avoid the information overload in different domains, but the number of electronic resources daily generated keeps growing and the problem rises again. Therefore, we find a persistent problem of information overload. In this paper we propose an improved recommender system to avoid the persistent information overload found in a University Digital Library. The idea is to include a memory to remember selected resources but not recommended to the user, and in such a way, the system could incorporate them in future recommendations to complete the set of filtered resources, for example, if there are a few resources to be recommended or if the user wishes output obtained by combination of resources selected in different recommendation rounds.

Celem artykułu jest omówienie najcenniejszych kolekcji bibliotecznych o tematyce wojskowej, znajdujących się w książnicach wojskowych w Polsce i na świecie. Przedstawiona została historia Centralnej Biblioteki Wojskowej im. Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego w Warszawie w kontekście gromadzenia przez ponad 90 lat najcenniejszych zbiorów bibliotecznych związanych z wojskiem polskim i szeroko rozumianymi naukami o wojskowości. W dalszej części artykułu zaprezentowano księgozbiory bibliotek wojskowych (ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zbiorów specjalnych) funkcjonujących na całym świecie. W ostatniej części omówiono działalność cyfrowych bibliotek wojskowych.
The aim of the article is to discuss the most valuable military-related collections held in military libraries in Poland and in the world. The article will present the history of the Marshal Piłsudski Central Military Library in Warsaw (henceforth referred to as CBW) in the context of the most valuable collections associated with the Polish army and the broadly conceived military sciences that were gathered during the period of more than ninety years. The further part of the article provides a few examples to present the collections of military libraries (with particular reference to special collections), functioning all over the world. The final part of the article will discuss the activities of the digital military libraries.

Between the obligation of carrying out their mission to ensure the quality development of higher education and the right to function as important centers where knowledge is taken, developed and transmitted, this paper will examine the technological developments of university libraries as an important part of higher education. Digital and electronic experiences applied in Albanian universities libraries will be brought to the attention of the public. This paper is based on the questionnaire survey conducted at public university libraries in Albania. Opinions of librarians regarding ICT application were elicited using a structured questionnaire, followed up with interviews. In the case of non-response by libraries is consulted their official web sites to have a more complete information. In addition, secondary sources were consulted as domestic and foreign literature in this field. Results show that: 1) the level of application information technology in public university libraries in Albania is acceptable. The most important and serious problem is the lack of the unique University Library ICT Policy; 2) serious handicap is the lack of educated librarians in using information technology; 3) the proportion of university library activity goes more digital, so the digital collection becomes reality in the public university libraries. This paper brings conclusions that contribute to: a) national information communication technology policy for university libraries and b) the creation of an integrated system for management and transmission of knowledge at the national level for all Albanian university libraries.

The aim of the article is to present the method of sharing and promoting the manuscript collections on the example of the 18th-century manuscript of Christian Gabriel Fischer available in the Pomeranian Digital Library (PDL). This manuscript inspired the Library of the Gdańsk University of Technology and the Institute of City Culture in Gdańsk to cooperate on a project promoting. Thanks to the joint initiative, work on the transcription of the German text written in „Kurrent” script was started and a number of events were organized to popularize both the manuscript’s content and the 18th-century calligraphy among contemporary audience. The authors used statistical information on the number of pageviews of the manuscript and the number of visits in the period from the launch of the PDL platform until May 31, 2021. In order to illustrate how popular and useful the organized events were, the authors presented the data collected by the Institute of City Culture monitoring the number of the participants of the events. The statistical data was supplemented with an analysis of the literature on the promotion of cultural heritage collections.

The article presents a brief history of electric engineering. After 1918, there is an increase in the number of publication, and with the development of science the subject area of professional literature increases. Great achievement in this development was the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers (SEP). The article shows how to search for pre-war SEP publication, their availability in libraries, also digital libraries. Presents a way to increase the universal open access to scientific and publishing heritage of SEP.
Artykuł przedstawia krótką historię piśmiennictwa z dziedziny elektrotechniki. Po 1918 r. obserwuje się wzrost liczby publikacji, a wraz z rozwojem nauki zwiększa się obszar tematyczny literatury fachowej. Ogromną zasługę w tym rozwoju miało Stowarzyszenie Elektryków Polskich. W artykule pokazano sposoby wyszukiwania wydawnictw przedwojennych SEP, ich dostępność w bibliotekach, także cyfrowych. Przedstawia w jaki sposób zwiększyć powszechny otwarty dostęp do spuścizny naukowej i wydawniczej SEP

Opis:
The aim of the study is to present digitalization as a method of virtual consolidation and sharing of scattered collections or those remaining outside the country, which due to their nature are closely related to the circle of Polish culture. The analysis was based on the conclusions resulting from the project of digital consolidation of the collection of the Polish press (1801–1939) of the National Ossoliński Institute during the Lviv period of activity, numbering in September 1939 no fewer than 5000 titles, which, as a result of territorial changes (1945), ended up outside the country. As a result of the efforts undertaken in the years 1946–1947, nearly 1,300 press titles were donated to Wrocław in the form of a “gift”, more than half of which were distributed as a result of the transfer of some annuals or only a supplement, when the main journal was kept. As a result, a total of about 3000 titles remained in Lviv, including over 700 completely or partially unavailable in Poland, currently stored in the Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv. The study attempts to search for a method to increase the efficiency of creating digital collections of collections scattered or unavailable in Poland, the comprehensive disclosure of which is often possible only through digital archiving.

The article discusses the rise and evolution of digital libraries It also focuses on the structure and function of the Pomeranian Digital Library. The author highlights the role of the Pomeranian Digital Library in popularizing and promoting precious library collections. Celem artykułu jest zapoznanie czytelnika z zagadnieniem bibliotek cyfrowych oraz przybliżenie struktury i działalności Pomorskiej Biblioteki Cyfrowej [dalej: PBC]. W drugiej części artykułu ukazano rolę PBC w udostępnianiu cennych kolekcji bibliotecznych – w oparciu o dane statystyczne, ankietę przeprowadzoną wśród użytkowników PBC oraz zapytania kierowane poprzez formularz kontaktowy. Artykuł przedstawia także działania promujące cyfrowe dziedzictwo kulturowe podejmowane za pośrednictwem mediów społecznościowych i we współpracy z lokalnymi instytucjami kultury.

Zasoby polskich bibliotek cyfrowych, udokumentowanych szesnastoletnią historią są zintegrowane na sieciowej platformie FBC (Federacja Bibliotek Cyfrowych). To umożliwia przeszukiwanie wszystkich zdigitalizowanych zbiorów tych instytucji za pomocą jednolitego interfejsu wyszukiwawczego. W FBC obecnie zarejestrowano około 120 bibliotek cyfrowych, a liczba obiektów sięga ponad 2 miliony. System digitalizacji obiektów charakteryzuje się dużym rozproszeniem i brakiem jednolitej polityki planowania. Autorzy wykorzystali metadane FBC do analizy dynamiki zmian zasobów cyfrowej wiedzy. W artykule przedstawiono charakterystyki czasowe rozwoju kolekcji cyfrowych w Polsce oraz zaproponowano nowy wskaźnik dynamiki zmian, oparty na wybranych polach w bazie danych FBC. Różnicę, czyli czas który upływa od powstania dzieła do jego publikacji w Internecie autorzy nazwali czasem uwolnienia zasobu (CUZ), który zbadali dla każdej z ponad stu bibliotek cyfrowych. Za pomocą wizualnej analizy histogramów dowiedziono, że rozkład CUZ nie jest przypadkowy, lecz wykazuje prawidłowości, wskazujące na wspólną politykę digitalizacji dla rozmaitych typów bibliotek cyfrowych. Zaproponowana metoda oparta na charakterystykach czasowych może pomóc w systematyce instytucji dygitalizujących, jak i w monitorowaniu dynamiki rozwoju zasobów cyfrowej wiedzy.
Polish digital libraries having 16-years history integrate their resources on Web platform FBC (Federation of Digital Libraries). It allows users to retrieve relevant objects in digital collections by using uniform interface. The FBC currently provides to the more than 2 million objects from around 120 digital libraries. All system of digitization is distributed with the lack of uniform planning policy. The authors used FBC metadata to analyze the dynamics of changes of digital knowledge. The article presents timeline characteristics of digital collections growth as also proposed a new dynamics index, based on date fi elds in FBC database. The delay time was introduced as an interval between creation date of document and its later network publishing. Due to visual analysis the authors found that delay time shape on histograms is not random, but depends on the type of digital library. The proposed method can help in these institutions systematics as well as in monitoring the dynamics of digital knowledge growth.

The article is divided into two parts. The first one presents visions and predictions how the world of libraries will be in 2020 (based on the publication of Joseph Janes Library 2020: Today's Leading Visionaries Describe Tomorrow's Library, published in 2013). The second part presents the clash of 2013 ideas with the reality of 2020, the year of a global pandemic, based on descriptions of activities of libraries in Italy, Ireland, Argentina, the United States of America and China.

Rozpoczęty w 2002 roku projekt Wielkopolska Biblioteka Cyfrowa rozpoczął okres rozwoju bibliotek skupionych w Federacji Bibliotek Cyfrowych. O wielkości przedsięwzięcia świadczą imponujące zbiory zdigitalizowanego dziedzictwa narodowego, liczba bibliotek cyfrowych, wspólne narzędzie wyszukiwawcze oraz agregacja metadanych do obiegu światowego. Wiodącą rolę w procesie digitalizacji pełnią biblioteki naukowe polskich szkół wyższych. Od początku digitalizacji problemem dla bibliotek cyfrowych i repozytoriów były najnowsze publikacje naukowe i podręcznikowe. W artykule dokonano przeglądu zasobów najnowszych publikacji naukowych i dydaktycznych w zbiorach cyfrowych politechnicznych szkół wyższych, dostępnych w nieograniczonym dostępie Open Access. Wskazano, że pełna integracja działalności wydawniczej z biblioteką cyfrową, która realizowana jest w Politechnice Lubelskiej, to najbardziej skuteczne rozwiązanie w celu budowania kompletnych i w pełni dostępnych zasobów naukowych oraz dydaktycznych szkół wyższych.
Launched in 2002, the Digital Library of Wielkopolska project began a period of development of libraries united in the Digital Libraries Federation. The proof of the impressive size of the project is an imposing collection of digitized cultural heritage, the number of digital libraries, the common search tool, and aggregation of metadata into the global circulation. The leading role in the process of digitization is performed by academic libraries of Polish universities. Since the beginning of digitization the major problem for digital libraries and repositories have been most recent scientific publications and textbooks. This article reviews resources of recent scientific and didactic publications in the collections of digital polytechnic colleges, available in Open Access. It indicates that the full integration of the publishing activity and the digital library, which is implemented in the Lublin University of Technology, is the most effective solution to building complete and fully available scientific and teaching resources in higher education.

W ostatnich latach podejmowane są liczne inicjatywy digitalizacji i udostępniania zasobów materialnego dziedzictwa kulturowego. Procesem digitalizacji zostały objęte także zbiory literatury dla młodego czytelnika. W artykule przedstawiono możliwości dostępu do literatury dla dzieci w dwóch polskich bibliotekach cyfrowych: Cyfrowej Bibliotece Narodowej Polona oraz w serwisie Wolne Lektury, a także w dwóch agregatorach zasobów bibliotek cyfrowych: Europejskiej Bibliotece Cyfrowej Europeana i Federacji Bibliotek Cyfrowych. Zwrócono uwagę na kolekcje zdigitalizowanej literatury dla dzieci, dostępne w Polonie oraz w serwisie Wolne Lektury. Dla porównania na początku artykułu opisano Międzynarodową Bibliotekę Cyfrową dla Dzieci, której zbiory i interfejs w całości przeznaczony jest dla dzieci. Odnaleziona literatura dla dzieci dostępna w bibliotekach cyfrowych pochodzi głównie z XIX i XX w.
Nowadays, numerous digitalization initiatives are undertaken to make physical artifacts of cultural heritage more accessible. Collections of literature for children have been also digitalized. Article presents possibilities of searching for literature for children available at two Polish digital libraries: National Digital Library Polona and Wolne Lektury and two aggregators of electronic collections: European Digital Library Europeana and Polish Digital Library Federation. As an example of making literature for children more accessible the International Children’s Digital Library was presented. Most of found resources for children in digital libraries is dated on XIX and XX century.

Throughout their history, all civilized states have built buildings for libraries in line with their needs, possibilities, and imperatives. Every time any dedicated structures were designed and built to host a library, they incorporated the sense for their further use by future generations. Thus, there evolved a basis for a library of the future. The presented cases from modern international practices in library design and construction illustrate a broad range of expanding possibilities in architecture and design in this new thematic area. The use of modern structural systems, finishing materials, and lighting fixtures enable interesting and unique features in library buildings, while new spatial organisation changes the layout structure and architectonics of libraries. What is this library of the future? What particularities make it different from the libraries of the past and present? What are the key criteria of a high-quality library functioning in the future? These are major questions explored in the paper that, when answered, provide clear conclusions.

Cel, jaki postawiła sobie autorka artykułu, zakładał scharakteryzowanie pod względem ilościowym piśmiennictwa polskiego tematycznie związanego z problematyką komputeryzacji bibliotek w Polsce, określenie dynamiki jego wzrostu na przestrzeni ostatniego półwiecza oraz przedstawienie charakterystyki ilościowej – szczegółowych zagadnień, które były przedmiotem publikacji do końca 2017 r. Zastosowana została metoda bibliometryczna, a źródłem danych do analiz bibliometrycznych była „Polska Bibliografia Bibliologiczna” (PBB). Badanie pozwoliło określić, kiedy w polskim piśmiennictwie bibliologicznym i informatologicznym zaczęły pojawiać się pierwsze publikacje na temat automatyzacji bibliotek oraz jak kształtowała się dynamika wzrostu piśmiennictwa w tym obszarze w latach 1970–2009. Z zagadnień szczegółowych oznaczono jedynie publikacje nt. katalogów online, bibliotek cyfrowych i Internetu w bibliotekarstwie. Badanie pozwoliło również zidentyfikować czynniki, które utrudniały lub wręcz uniemożliwiały przeprowadzenie – niezbędnych dla otrzymania wiarygodnych wyników – analiz bibliometrycznych. Praca została wzbogacona o elementy analizy „Polskiej Bibliografii Bibliologicznej” pod kątem jej przydatności jako źródła do badań bibliometrycznych omawianej problematyki.
One planned to present a quantitative description of the Polish literature which is thematically associated with the problems of the computerisation of libraries in Poland; to define the dynamics of its growth across the span of the last fifty years and to identify – and to provide a quantitative description thereof – of the particular problems which were the subject of the publication until the end of 2017. One applied a bibliometrical method, and the source of data for the bibliometrical analyses was constituted by the “Polish Bibliological Bibliography” (PBB). The study enabled one to determine the time when the bibliological and informatological literature saw the emergence of the first publications which are thematically associated with the problems of the automatisation of libraries and how the dynamics of the growth of the literature in this field occurred in the years 1970–2009. As far as the particular problems are concerned, one indicated only the publications devoted to online catalogues, digital libraries and the Internet in library science. The study also facilitated the identification of factors which hindered or even precluded bibliometrical analyses – the latter were necessary for the obtaining of reliable results. The work was enhanced by the elements of the analysis of the “Polish Bibliological Bibliography” in terms of its utility as a source for bibliometrical research in the problems which are discussed.

Artykuł przedstawia aspekty procesów digitalizacyjnych na przykładzie polskiego projektu Fundacji Ośrodka Karta „Cyfrowe Archiwa Tradycji Lokalnej”. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na istotę działań ratowniczych w społecznościach lokalnych z uwzględnieniem tendencji ogólnoświatowych, które mają na celu utrwalanie dziedzictwa przez aktywne współdziałanie społeczności internetowej. Omówiono również rangę Narodowego Archiwum Cyfrowego – repozytorium narodowego jako przykładu instytucji przodującej w pracach cyfryzacji archiwalnej. Położono nacisk na współczesne tendencje społeczne związane z ocalaniem i oddolnymi działaniami o charakterze społecznikowskim. Uwypuklono fakt, iż sprawny proces tworzenia repozytorium lokalnego poparty jest zaangażowaniem wolontariuszy – przedstawicieli wspólnoty (np. seniorów), którzy mają duży udział w kompletowaniu zbiorów cyfrowych. Zwrócono uwagę na aspekty prawne, zwłaszcza prawa autorskie, które niejednokrotnie blokują skuteczność prac digitalizacyjnych. Postawiono tezę, że działania cyfryzacyjne o charakterze oddolnym, regionalnym dają społecznościom skuteczny akces do przestrzeni internetowej i tym samym dziedzictwo wspólnoty zyskuje wymiar globalny. Podkreślono, że waga tworzenia repozytorium elektronicznego jest tym istotniejsza, że niejako ocala biblioteki od katastroficznego scenariusza dewaluacji kulturowej i postępującej anachroniczności cywilizacyjnej.
The article presents different aspects of digitization processes, focusing on the case example of the project Digital Archives of Local Tradition undertaken by the Karta Foundation. A particular attention is given to the significance of those activities in and dependent on local communities that would include worldwide trends that aim at preserving heritage through an active collaboration with the internet community. The article also discusses the significance of the National Digital Archives, a national repository, as an example of a leading institution in archival digitization. In particular, emphasis is given to modern social trends related to preservation and to grass-root activities of public-spirited interest groups. The article highlights the fact that an efficient local repository creative process can be supported and driven by the commitment of volunteers – representatives of the community (e.g. OAP’s) – who play an important part in completing items for digital resources. The author focuses on legal aspects, copyright issues in particular, that oftentimes hamper, or even block, the efficacy of any digitization project. According to the author, digitization activities of grass-root and regional nature make way for a provision of efficient access to the internet space to communities, and thus the shared heritage of a community takes on a global dimension. The significance of a creation of an electronic repository is even more important in view of the fact that, in a way, it comes to the rescue of libraries that could face a catastrophic scenario of cultural devaluation and increasing civilizational outdateness.

The article presents selected problems facing Polish research libraries today, including military ones. Particular attention has been paid to the idea of embedded librarianship, participation of libraries in open science, open data and open access projects. The role of libraries in the creation of digital repositories is presented, too.

Rozważania dotyczą bibliotek akademickich oraz nauki w znaczeniubadań naukowych. Obydwa obszary – biblioteka i nauka – od prawie 30 lat znajdują się w procesie przemian określanych ostatnio mianem transformacji cyfrowej. Nauka tworzy nowoczesne technologie cyfrowe, a te z kolei zmieniają ją samą przez dostarczanie nowych narzędzi i metod badawczych oraz sposobów komunikacji. Z kolei zadaniem bibliotek jest dopasowanie się do nauki i nadążanie za jej oczekiwaniami w zapewnieniu potrzebnej do badań literatury i informacji. Podstawowe pytaniebrzmi: czy biblioteka i nauka są dziś na tym samym torze transformacji cyfrowej?
My considerations concern the group of scientific libraries such as academic libraries, and the science in the sense of scientific research. Both areas – library and science – have been in the process of transformation, last known as the digital transformation, for almost 30 years. Science creates modern digital technologies, which in turn change science itself by providing new tools, research methods, and the ways of communication. Libraries’ task is to keep pace with science and to keep up with its expectations in providing the literature and information needed for research. The basic question is whether library and science are on the same path of digital transformation?

Storing the produced knowledge and managing it with the use of new technologies is a big challenge for libraries. The transformation of research libraries, as a continuous adaptation of services to the changing needs of users, requires, apart from modern IT tools, the reconstruction of the organizational culture. The theory of the organization (the method of change management) indicates the important role of leaders, who should have a vision of the future of libraries, taking account of how higher education functions as a whole and the ability to positively influence the staff while achieving new goals.

W artykule przedstawiono problemy z przechowywaniem danych cyfrowych w bibliotekach, które są nie tylko nabywcami danych, ale i ich wytwórcami. Przybliżono wybrane światowe i polskie projekty bezpiecznej i długoterminowej archiwizacji. Zwrócono uwagę na konieczność wypracowania ogólnopolskiej strategii i procedur właściwego przechowywania i zarządzania cyfrowymi zasobami, aby zapewnić im długoterminową użyteczność oraz znacząco obniżyć koszty wieczystej archiwizacji.
The paper presents problems with the storage of digital data in libraries, which are not only the data buyers nowadays, but data manufacturers as well. Selected Polish and international projects on secure long-term archiving are discussed. The authors emphasize the need of developing national strategies and procedures for the appropriate storage environment and digital asset management to ensure the long-term accessibility and usability for the spiraling amounts of digital data and to significantly reduce long-term archiving costs.

This article attempts to sum up the research conducted in the Jagiellonian Library in connection with its participation in the project entitled “NUKAT – The Highway of Digital Information”, executed between 2009 and 2012 by the University Library in Warsaw. Besides introducing the concepts, the general premises of the project and the mandatory procedures as well as presenting particular stages of merging data, this article also describes the process of merging the Computer Catalogue of the Collections of the Jagiellonian University Libraries Collections with the National Union Catalogue NUKAT, including the preliminary, administrative and follow-up work that was done in the Jagiellonian Library in connection with this enterprise. The aim of this article is to give a broad outline of this project as well as to present the results of an analysis performed on a control group of 5500 merged records in connection with some abnormalities that had been detected. This analysis was done on the basis of reports additionally prepared by the NUKAT Centre at the request of the Jagiellonian Library during the course of the project as well as after particular stages of merging catalogues were finished. The article is summed up by the conclusions and the evaluation of the project which are based on the control material and on the data gathered by the author while she was coordinating the project.

Opis:
The presentation of the image of the evolution of the Computer Catalogue of the JU Libraries Collections against the background of twenty years of digitalization of the Jagiellonian Library, included in this article, is an attempt to sum up all the undeniable benefits from applying new technologies and improving digital tools, which concern both the users and the staff of libraries. The gradual elimination of manual procedures in favour of the automatic ones has definitely improved the not only the comfort and opportunities of creating information, but also those of searching for it. The interlibrary cooperation in the field of creating and exchanging information, together with the current system of links between digital catalogues, databases, digital repositories, and multibrowsers, have allowed the contemporary library to go far beyond its physical boundaries. Modern technologies and new methods of data presentation constitute a new dimension of access to information. The continuously blurring borders of the form and contents of library materials as well as the geographic boundaries within which information is searched for, provoke thought regarding not only the historical transformations which have already taken place, but also future prospects. What direction should the changes take so that the new philosophy of building library databases meets both the needs of their users as well as the interests of various institutions, and, that the improvements result in the establishment of complete, coherent and factual sources?
Przedstawiony w artykule obraz ewolucji Komputerowego Katalogu Zbiorów Bibliotek Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego na tle 20 lat komputeryzacji Biblioteki Jagiellońskiej to próba podsumowania niekwestionowanych korzyści płynących z wdrożenia nowych technologii i udoskonalenia narzędzi informatycznych, które są udziałem zarówno użytkowników, jak i pracowników bibliotek. Zmiany związane z automatyzacją i wyeliminowanie ręcznych procesów na rzecz automatycznych procedur zdecydowanie poprawiły możliwości i komfort budowania, a także wyszukiwania informacji. Współdziałanie bibliotek w zakresie tworzenia i wymiany danych oraz istniejący aktualnie system powiązań pomiędzy katalogami komputerowymi, różnorodnymi bazami danych, bibliotekami i repozytoriami cyfrowymi czy multiwyszukiwarkami sprawiły, że współczesna biblioteka znacznie wykroczyła poza swoje fizyczne progi. Nowoczesne technologie i nowe metody prezentacji danych to nowy wymiar wiedzy i dostępu do informacji. Zacierające się coraz bardziej granice formy i zawartości materiałów bibliotecznych, a także ramy geograficzne, w których poszukiwane są informacje, skłaniają do refleksji nie tyle nad przeszłością i historycznymi przeobrażeniami, które się już dokonały, ale nad nowymi perspektywami. Jaki kierunek przemian obrać, by nowa filozofia konstruowania bibliotecznych baz danych była zgodna z rzeczywistymi potrzebami ich użytkowników, a przy tym służyła interesom różnych instytucji, i aby rezultatem wdrażanych udoskonaleń były kompletne, spójne i rzetelne źródła wiedzy?
