    Purpose: The technology industry has become incredibly dynamic and complex, so by utilizing the information technology (IT) framework in the approach to new technology, businesses can avoid confusion around the application of new trends since IT operations can deliver business value. Design/methodology/approach: An overview of recent literature of some assets digitization concepts was applied. In particular the concept of digital twins was presented. Finally, applying the blockchain technology the security from hackers due to its encryption features may be provided. Findings: The improvement of digital twins through blockchain technology is set to transform industries such as manufacturing, healthcare and beyond and, companies can work towards building their future business strategies. Practical and social implications: The impact that digital twins can make is huge. Many are just now in development due to the complexity of their creation, but soon millions of things will have digital twins. And their usefulness and capabilities will continue to evolve. On the other hand blockchain technology has the potential to become the most relevant and capable way to generate and monitor digital twins due to the security and immutability of technology. Originality/value A jet engine, a human heart, even an entire city can all have a digital twin that mirrors the same physical and biological properties as the real thing enabling three critical drivers: continuous evaluation; faster, cheaper prototyping and innovating at the limits (ethics).

    Cyfrowe bliźniaki (CB) są obecnie ważnym trendem technologicznym, jednak jeszcze niedostatecznie rozpoznanym w literaturze przedmiotu. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest identyfikacja tego zjawiska, obszarów jego zastosowania oraz wpływu na funkcjonowanie przedsiębiorstwa w turbulentnym otoczeniu. Cel ten został zrealizowany za pomocą analizy literatury, baz danych i zasobów elektronicznych oraz studium przypadku. Technologia cyfrowych bliźniaków, będąca cyfrowym odpowiednikiem rzeczy, obiektów i procesów ze świata realnego, znajduje zastosowanie głównie w procesie produkcji, ale także w obszarze projektowania i testowania produktów, dystrybucji oraz obsłudze klienta. Rozważania potwierdzają tezę o pozytywnym wpływie CB na funkcjonowanie przedsiębiorstwa w szybko zmieniającym się otoczeniu poprzez zwiększenie elastyczności strategicznej.
    Digital twins (DT) are currently an important technological trend, but still insufficiently recognized in the literature on the subject. The aim of this article is to identify this phenomenon, the areas of its application and the impact on the operation of the company in a turbulent environment. This goal was achieved through the analysis of literature, databases and electronic resources as well as a case study. The technology of digital twins, which is the digital equivalent of things, objects and processes from the real world, is used mainly in the production process, but also in the areas of product design and testing, distribution and customer service. The considerations confirm the thesis about the positive impact of DT on the functioning of the company in a rapidly changing environment by increasing strategic flexibility.

    Zagadnienia związane z cyfrowym odwzorowaniem struktur i organizacji funkcjonujących w rzeczywistym świecie są tematyką poruszaną przez wielu badaczy zajmujących się połączeniem badań naukowych i ich praktycznych zastosowań. Koncepcją spinającą te prace jest cyfrowy bliźniak. Koncepcja ta obejmuje zarówno aspekty statyczne jak i dynamiczne. Wydaje się być również idealna dla badań systemów transportu kolejowego, gdzie statyczne odwzorowanie obejmuje infrastrukturę kolejową, natomiast dynamiczne dotyczy ruchu kolejowego i jazdy poszczególnych pociągów. Takie ujęcie transportu kolejowego nie jest widoczne jeszcze w literaturze, a więc jest obszarem, który należy zbadać. Cyfrowy bliźniak systemu kolei to bardzo szerokie zagadnienia, dlatego też autor w niniejszym artykule zajmie się jego istotną częścią, jaką stanowi cyfrowe odwzorowanie ERTMS\ETCS.
    Issues related to the digital representation of structures and organizations functioning in the real world are the subject of many researchers dealing with the combination of scientific research and its practical applications. The concept linking these works is the digital twins. This concept covers both static and dynamic aspects. The concept also seems to be ideal for rail transport systems, where static mapping covers rail infrastructure, while dynamic mapping covers rail traffic and driving of individual trains. Such an approach to rail transport is not yet visible in the literature and it is therefore an area to be studied. The digital twins of the railroad system are very broad issues, therefore the author in this article will deal with its important part which is the railway control-command and signaling control subsystem.

    Urban planning has been simulated through various city-building games such as The Sumerian Game (1964), SimCity (1989), and Cities: Skylines (2015), amongst many others. Gaming technology has been utilized in 3D GIS, City Information Models (CIMs), and Urban Digital Twins (UDTs) to enhance public participation and engagement in the planning process. This article studies the overlap and ‘game-like’ qualities of these systems and presents an Urban Game Continuum. This interactive tool works in tandem with a taxonomy of city-building games and existing UDTs in order to assist with the design of future systems. A case study imported GeoData from Lancaster, UK, into a games platform. The continuum tool and case study offer new insights into opportunities for the utilisation of game design and gaming technology in urban planning and digital transformation. The article argues that the current use of gaming technology for real-world applications is one-directional and misses opportunities to include digital game design and research, such as mechanics, dynamics, flow, and public participatory world-building for future scenarios. By incorporating these elements, UDT systems could offer higher levels of citizen engagement.

    Data processing, artificial intelligence and IoT technologies are on the rise. The role of data transfer security systems and databases, known as Big Data, is growing. The main cognitive aim of the publication is to identify the specific nature of Big Data management in an enterprise. The paper uses the bibliographic Elsevier and Springer Link databases, and the Scopus abstract database. The distribution of keywords, drawing attention to four main areas related to research directions, is indicated, i.e., Big Data and the related terms „human”, „IoT” and „machine learning”. The paper presents the specific nature of Big Data together with Kitchin and McArdle’s research, indicating the need for a taxonomic ordering of large databases. The precise nature of Big Data management, including the use of advanced analytical techniques enabling managerial decision-making, was identified. The development of Cyber Production Systems (CPS), based on BD, integrating the physical world of an enterprise with the digitisation of information as the concept of Digital Twins (DTs), was also indicated. CPS offer the opportunity to increase enterprise resilience through increased adaptability, robustness and efficiency. With DTs, manufacturing costs are reduced, the product life cycle is shortened, and production quality increases.
