Opis:
Methods of incremental manufacturing, i.e. 3D printing, have been experiencing significant growth in recent years, both in terms of the development of modern technologies dedicated to various applications, and in terms of optimizing the parameters of the process itself so as to ensure the desired mechanical and strength properties of the parts produced in this way. High hopes are currently being pinned on the use of highly penetrating types of radiation, i.e. synchrotron and/or neutron radiation, for quantitative identification of parameters characterizing objects produced by means of 3D printing. Thanks to diffraction methodologies, it is feasible to obtain input information to optimize 3D printing procedures not only for finished prints but also to monitor in situ printing processes. Thanks to these methodologies, it is possible to obtain information on parameters that are critical from the perspective of application of such obtained elements as stresses generated during the printing procedure itself as well as residual stresses after printing. This parameter, from the point of view of tensile strength, compression strength as well as fatigue strength, is crucial and determines the possibility of introducing elements produced by incremental methods into widespread industrial use.

We have investigated the characteristics of acousto-optic interaction for low-frequency ultrasonic wave in a liquid. Based on the coupling wave equation of acousto-optic interaction, the diffraction light characteristics for normal incidence at small parameter Q have been discussed. The parameter Q with respect to acousto-optic interaction length, ultrasonic frequency, water temperature, and the concentration of sucrose solution have been analyzed, which is an important physical quantity and reflects the degree of mismatch in the acousto-optic interaction. The diffraction efficiencies for different parameters Q, incident angles and phase shifts have been calculated. The results of our work provide theoretical basis for further study of the acousto-optic effect in the liquid.

Opis:
In the current study, we investigate the effect of uniform white noise, Poisson noise and a constant background on the phase retrieval of pure phase objects. We also study the influence of the aforementioned factors on phase retrieval at different bit depths of intensity measurements. An algorithm called PhaseLift is used for phase retrieval as it requires a small number of modulating masks and can retrieve the phase of an object from sparse intensity measurements of low bit depth. A test object is modulated by eight random masks generated from a single mask and the phase of the object is retrieved from coded diffraction patterns. Different levels of uniform white noise, Poisson noise and constant background are superimposed on the diffraction patterns and the root-mean-square error (RMSE) of the retrieved object is calculated at each level. The results suggest that Poisson noise and a constant background at the same level cause similar RMSE compared to uniform white noise. Lowering the bit depth from 18-bits to 14-bits resulted in the decrease of the RMSE caused by Poisson noise and a constant background. We conclude that the effects of noise and constant background can be reduced by lowering the bit depth.

Application of optical system enables detailed experimental investigations of evolution diffraction pattern in the near-field region, in particular, rotation of the observed structure while departing from the fiber end. The experimental results are confirmed with theoretical simulations based on the theory of the Fresnel diffraction.

In pharmaceutical technology, the analysis of physicochemical properties of raw materials, intermediates and products is part of quality control testing at each stage of designing formulations and in the routine evaluation of the final product. The aim of the study was to analyse the physical state of drug and the morphology of microspheres obtained by spray drying, where furosemide was incorporated in the polymeric matrix of Eudragit L30 D-55. The following optimal parameters of the spray drying process were established: aspirator capacity of 80%, T.in: 140 ° C, pump capacity: 10%. The laser diffraction method was used to analyse the size distribution of microspheres in the following furosemide-Eudragit L30 D-55 systems: 1:1, 1:3, 1:5. X-ray powder diffraction was applied to compare the degrees of crystallinity of the final product and the starting material. Furosemide has crystal structure both before and after spray drying, it occurs in the polymorphic forms (form I crystals). No reflection from the crystalline phase has been found on the diffraction pattern of Eudragit. This is an amorphous substance.

This paper demonstrates how to perform hyperspectral infrared measurements with uncooled thermal camera and imaging spectrometer. Such thermal cameras are sensitive to wavelengths in the range of 7 – 14 µm (LWIR). There is a description of a diffraction grating based spectrometer with Czerny-Turner optical configuration. To perform hyperspectral acquisition of thermograms it is required to have the camera synchronized with spectrometer, so that recorded frames correspond to known wavelengths. For this purpose the dedicated software was developed and it is also described in this paper, with its operation algorithm. There is a problem of thermal camera drift, and this paper proposes the solution to deal with it. Moreover a description how to obtain transmission plot and exemplary results is presented with the description of measurement rig. In addition, noise related issues are covered and discussed.

This paper reports the results of 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and gamma-ray spectroscopy studies of partially metamict gadolinites from Szklarska Poręba and Zimnik (Lower Silesia, Poland), a fully metamict gadolinite sample from Ytterby (Sweden) and a crystalline sample obtained after annealing of a fragment of the sample from Ytterby at 1373 K in an argon atmosphere. Both fully metamict and crystalline gadolinite show divalent iron exclusively in octahedral coordination. Changes of the amplitudes ratio of high energy to low energy absorption peaks from Fe2+ quadrupole doublets are strictly correlated with calculated absorbed alpha-dose and the metamictization stages of the gadolinite specimens. In this respect, one of the samples is in conflict with the estimated radiation dose based on age and radionuclide concentrations. In this case, Mössbauer spectroscopy shows that the sample had to be naturally annealed over geologic time.

Problemy identyfikacji bakterii oraz zwalczania zakażeń bakteryjnych należą do jednych z najważniejszych zagadnień współczesnej nauki w kontekście przeciwdziałania wzrastającej lekooporności bakterii. Przeprowadzona analiza jakościowa oraz ilościowa uzyskanych wyników wykazała bezpośredni związek pomiędzy zmianami rozkładu przestrzennego widm dyfrakcyjnych kolonii a działaniem czynników hamujących rozwój kolonii bakterii. Uzyskane wyniki świadczą o możliwości wykorzystania analizy widm dyfrakcyjnych kolonii bakterii do oceny efektywności działania materiałów, środków chemicznych i czynników fizycznych o działaniu antybakteryjnym.
The problem of bacteria identification and limitation of the bacteria contamination risk are the most important issues of contemporary science in the context of increasing bacterial drug resistance. Therefore, there is a need to develop new, faster, and more common methods of bacteria detection and identification, antibacterial agents and factors, as well as techniques to characterize their effectiveness against bacteria. In this paper the correlation between the spatial changes of bacterial colonies Fresnel diffraction patterns and the colonies treatment by selected physicochemical factors: low temperature, alcohols, and UV radiation was investigated. The performed qualitative and quantitative analysis of obtained results confirmed that there is a direct relation between the bacterial colonies diffraction patterns spatial changes and the factors influencing bacterial colonies growth. Obtained preliminary results demonstrated the possibility of the application of the diffraction patterns analysis to characterize the efficiency of different physicochemical factors with antibacterial activity.

The crystal structure of title compound was studied at 150 K using modern X-ray equipment. At this temperature, as well as at room temperature, this compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic symmetry wiith P21212 space group. The unit cell of the title compound is formed by four amonium cations, two oxalate anions and water molecules, with a 2:1:1 cation-anion-water ratio. At 150 K oxalate ion is twisted by 26.9 (1)°. The similar twist angle (26.6 (4)° was observed at the room temperature. Central carbon-carbon bond in oxalate ion is insignificantly longer (1.568 Å) in comparing with this bond at room temperature (1.559 Å).

In the paper authors present a special measurement system for observing phase objects. The diffraction phas microscopy makes it possible to measure the dimensions of a tested object with a nanometre resolution. To meet this requirement, it is proposed to apply a spatial transform. To make a full analysis of the object shape the authors developed an accurate image processing algorithm, also presented in the paper.

The presented paper deals with the measurement methodologies of the structural properties of porous anodic alumina (PAA) films filled with YalO3:Tb3+ composite using X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. It shows that the deposited material does not uniformly fill the porous volume of the anodic alumina film and the part of it forms a thick layer on the PAA surface. The aim of this work is to show the differences in the XRD response obtained at different angles of incidence of the excitation beam for the PAA/YalO3:Tb3+ system. Furthermore, this simple approach enables separation of the signal from both regions on the surface and inside the PAA pores, providing more accurate data interpretation. It reveals that the crystallization of the material on the PAA surface and within the pores is different.

Opis:
From the point of view of the airplane construction, its fatigue lifetime and exploitation process, the stress states and levels are of crucial importance. The most appropriate experimental methods to determine stress values are diffraction methods with different radiation type employed. These methods allow the determination of the elastic lattice deformation and distortion (effectively the stress state) from the displacement and broadening of the diffraction peak. Diffraction methods are widely known as the experimental methods for determining not only the stress values but also the elastic properties of polycrystalline materials (also of all alloys types used in the aerospace industry). The advantages of diffraction experiments result from their non-destructive character and the possibility to obtain absolute values of stresses in different phases of each type of crystal material (the measurements are performed selectively only for crystallites contributing to the measured diffraction peak, i.e. for the grains having lattice orientations for which the Bragg condition is fulfilled). In the frame of this work, the laboratory possibilities of the Institute of Aviation in this area are presented as well as the exemplary results of stress measurements performed there.

Opis:
The application of a new type of alloy requires the evaluation of its properties, which is typically achieved with destructive methods. For this purpose, among others, static and fatigue mechanical tests are performed. Tests are performed on standardized samples in a way which reflects the level of stress occurring in real elements. These tests should limit random errors associated with sample preparation. For this reason the proper preparation of samples is crucial, not only in terms of their geometric dimensions but also in terms of the residual stress level. A sample preparation process was developed, involving checking samples’ surface for cracks, scratches, roughness, and the state of stress. The measurements are performed with nondestructive methods so as not to affect the proceeding research. In this study, the residual stress and features of a mechanically prepared surface were characterized. The specimens were subjected to various surface finishes mainly, lathe turning and grinding surface conditions. The effects of residual surface stress (measured by XRD) were studied after machining and polishing.
