    Didactics of foreign phonic languages in Europe is often based on the Common European Framework of References for Languages. Teaching Polish Sign Language (PSL) to hearing people is substituted by teaching them Signed Polish, which results in many obstacles in the communication process between deaf and hearing. This article concentrates on different measures to make communication possible and emphasizes the need of teaching PSL to hearing people using standards of Common European Framework of References for Languages.

    Wraz z rozwojem teoretycznych podstaw nowożytnego sportu rosło zainteresowanie jego rolą w aktywizacji środowisk osób niepełnosprawnych. Organizacja zawodów mistrzowskich dla tych grup, w tym igrzysk paraolimpijskich, przyśpieszyła proces społecznej akceptacji oraz kształtowania organizacyjnego. W publikacji przedstawiono uwarunkowania rozwoju sportu głuchych od 1960 roku, tj. od momentu powstania pierwszego Klubu Sportowego Głuchych w tym mieście. Stowarzyszenie od samego początku współpracowało z zakładem wychowawczym dla dzieci niedosłyszących, w którym wychowanie fizyczne i sport były elementem rehabilitacji i kompensacji nabytych wad w rozwoju. W tym środowisku uprawiano pływanie, lekkoatletykę, siatkówkę, koszykówkę, strzelectwo sportowe, tenis stołowy, akrobatykę oraz brano udział w turniejach szachowych. Popularna była także turystyka. W 2001 roku powstał w Szczecinie Uczniowski Klub Sportowy „Wiosło”, a w 2012 roku Szczeciński Klub Sportowy Głuchych „Korona”. Obecnie do propagowanych w tym środowisku dyscyplin sportu należą: piłka nożna, siatkówka, koszykówka, bowling, żeglarstwo oraz wioślarstwo. W pracy ukazano zdrowotne i społeczne korzyści wynikające z uprawiania sportu przez osoby niedosłyszące. Wskazano także na zakres podejmowanej aktywności i możliwe ograniczenia. W badaniach zastosowano metodę dedukcyjno-indukcyjną, analizę materiałów archiwalnych, prasowych oraz dostępnych opracowań, w tym stron internetowych.
    Along with the development of theoretical bases of modern sports, interest in its role in activating disabled people’s environments was increasing. Organisation of championships for these groups, including Paralympic Games, has sped the process of social acceptance and organisational forming. The paper “Social and Economic Determinants of Sports of Deaf People in Szczecin in the Years 1960-2016” presents the conditions of development of sports of deaf people since 1960, i.e. since the moment of establishing of first Deaf People Sports Club in this city. The association from the very beginning co-operated with deaf children educational institution where physical education and sports were elements of rehabilitation and compensation of acquired defects of development. Swimming, athletics, volleyball, basketball, football, sport shooting, table tennis, acrobatics, and taking part in chess tournaments were sports played in this social group. Tourism was also popular. Pupils Sports Club “Wiosło” (Paddle) in 2001 and in 2012 Szczecin’s Sports Club of Deaf People “Korona” (Crown) were established in Szczecin. Currently promoted in this social environment are such sport disciplines as football, volleyball, basketball, bowling, sailing, and rowing. Health and social benefits being the results of playing sports by deaf people were shown in the paper. The range of the activities and possible limitations were also shown. The deductive-inductive method of analysis of archives, press and available studies, also those from web sites, were used in the research.
    Наряду с развитием теоретических основ современного спорта рос интерес к его роли в активизировании среды инвалидов. Организация чемпионатов для этих групп, в том числе параолимпийских игр, ускорила процесс социального одобрения и организационного формирования. В статье представили обусловленности развития спорта глухих начиная с 1960 г., т.е. с момента возникновения первого спортивного клуба глухих в этом городе. Общество с самого начала сотрудничало с воспитательным заведением для детей с дефектом слуха, где физкультура и спорт были элементом реабилитации и компенсации полученных дефектов в развитии. В этой среде занимались плаванием, легкой атлетикой, волейболом, баскетболом, спортивной стрельбой, настольным теннисом, акробатикой, а также принимали участие в шах- матных турнирах. Популярным был также туризм. В 2001 г. в Щецине возник ученический спортивный клуб «Весло», а в 2012 г. – Щецинский спортивный клуб глухих «Корона». Сегодня к числу пропагандируемых дисциплин спорта относятся: футбол, волейбол, баскетбол, боулинг, парусный спорт и гребля. В статье указали оздоровительные и общественные выгоды, вытекающие из занятия спортом лицами с дефектом слуха. Указаны тоже диапазон их активности и возможные ограничения. В обследованиях применили дедуктивно-индуктивный метод, анализ архивальных материалов, пресс-материалов, а также доступных разработок, в том числе вебсайтов.

Przyjęcie określonej postawy wobec postrzegania zjawiska głuchoty determinuje kontekst prowadzonej przez psychologa oceny. Na diagnozę w tak specyficznej sytuacji należy spojrzeć z perspektywy dziecka słyszącego jako osoby dwukulturowej, potomka rodzica Głuchego1) – przedstawiciela kultury Głuchych oraz siebie samego jako psychologa reprezentujących większość kulturową osób słyszących.
    Ethical and methodologically correct diagnosis of a child hearing Deaf parents requires a specialist with extensive knowledge. In every society there are people who use the visual-spatial language – they are deaf people. They are perceived by the majority as disabled people, less frequently as a cultural minority. The adoption of a particular attitude towards the perception of deafness determines the context of the psychologist’s assessment. Diagnosis in such a specific situation should be viewed from the perspective of a child hearing as a bi-cultural person, a descendant of a Deaf parent – a representative of the Deaf culture and himself a psychologist representing the cultural majority of hearing people.

    Opis:
    This study aimed to characterize proper names from the “Słownik mimiczny dla głuchoniemych i osób z nimi styczność mających” written by Józef Hollak and Teofil Jagodziński. This lexicon, targeted at deaf people, their families and friends was edited in 1879. Among the collected proper names, there are anthrophonyms and geographic names. The analyses have shown the similarities and differences between proper names in the Polish Sign Language and the ways of signing the collected onyms indicated by the authors of the dictionary. Results of the analysis confirm that the aim of the dictionary was to become a useful tool in the process of explaining the articles of faith and the Bible. What is more, the structure of the dictionary proves that this is not the lexicon of the Polish Sign Language, but a two-language dictionary that translates vocabulary from Polish language to the Polish Sign Language. This is why the analyzed lexicon does not present the natural system of proper names characteristic of the Polish Sign Language, but rather illustrates different ways of adapting proper names in Polish language to the methods of signing that are possible in Polish Sign Language. The ways of signing proper names indicated by the authors of the dictionary were not aimed at the facilitation of communication with deaf people, instead they reflect the meaning of proper names.

    Artykuł poświęcony jest sytuacji osób niesłyszących w systemie edukacyjnym promującym multikulturowość i transkulturowość. Uwzględnia się tu specyfikę funkcjonowania i identyfikacji tożsamowościowej jednostki żyjącej jednocześnie w „świecie ciszy”, ale w „społeczeństwie dźwięku”. Zwraca się uwagę na tworzenie środowiska edukacyjnego sprzyjającego rozwojowi kulturowości Głuchych oraz znoszącego bariery biopsychospołeczne, w tym komunikacyjne. Praca skupiona jest wokół wsparcia rozwoju dziecka z wadą słuchu, które nie jest w stanie rozwinąć mowy dźwiękowej na poziomie umożliwiającym swobodną komunikację i eksplorację świata. Wzrastając jednak w kulturze Głuchych, może ono percypować rzeczywistość, budując relacje i tworząc reprezentacje poznawcze w Polskim Języku Migowym.
    The article is devoted to the situation of the deaf in an educational system which promotes the multicultural and transcultural. This includes the specific of functioning and identity of the hard of hearing, who live in a “world of silence”, but “sound society”. Attention is drawn to how to create an educational environment conducive to the development of the culture of the hard of hearing and abolishing biopsychosocial barriers, including communication. The dissertation is focused on supporting the development of a child who is hard of hearing and unable to develop sound speech at a level that allows human communication and exploration of the world. Growing up in a hard of hearing culture, however, they can perceive reality by creating relationships and cognitive representations in Polish Sign Language.

Ważnym elementem artykułu jest odniesienie do aktów prawnych dotyczących edukacji osób Głuchych w języku migowym. Celem tekstu jest także, zwrócenie uwagi na problemy w komunikacji osób Głuchych w jednostkach użyteczności publicznej m.in. w urzędach państwowych, szpitalach.
    This article is an attempt to bring readers closer to the Deaf Community and the Polish Sign Language (PJM) as an element of the cultural identity of the Deaf Community. The text attempts to introduce the history of the Polish Sign Language and point to its elements as the natural language of Deaf people (including manual and non-manual components, visual and spatial grammar). An important element of the article is a reference to legal acts concerning the use of sign language in education of the Deaf. The text also aims to highlight the problems in communication for Deaf people in public institutions, e.g. government offices, hospitals.

    This paper is about the process of learning/teaching philosophy in a class of deaf stu-dents. It starts with a presentation of Portuguese Sign Language that, as with other sign lan-guages, is recognized as a language on equal terms with vocal languages. However, in spite of the recognition of that identity, sign languages have specifi city related to the quadrimodal way of their production, and iconicity is an exclusive quality. Next, it will be argued that according to linguistic relativism - even in its weak version - language is a mould of thought. The idea of Philosophy is then discussed as an area of knowledge in which the author and the language of its production are always present.Finally, it is argued that learning/teaching Philosophy in Sign Language in a class of deaf students is linked to deaf culture and it is not merely a way of overcoming diffi culties with the spoken language

    The article focuses on hearing assistive technologies for hearing impaired people, and analyzes them in terms of the development of Deaf Culture. The culture of this community manifests itself through their attachment to the use of sign language and in various artistic activities which strengthen the identity of the members and supporters. With various assistive technologies available (particularly hearing aids and cochlear implants), a cultural dilemma arises related on the one hand to the cyborgisation and on the other hand to the neo-Luddism of the deaf and hard of hearing. Most of them avail of technology, but at the price of a certain level of cyborgization. However, there is a minority in Deaf Culture which, wishing to preserve its Deaf identity, rejects technology, thus subscribing to the technophobic process of opposing technological devices and machines, initiated by the Luddites in the 19th century.

This study discusses the ethical issue of the development of hearing technology in the form of cochlear implants that are used by an ever-growing number of deaf and hard of hearing people. The development of this kind of technology has progressed so quickly all over the world, including Poland, that the deafness paradigms have drastically changed. This may affect, to a greater or lesser degree, not only the implementation of early support programmes, but also the image of the Deaf communities using their respective sign languages on a daily basis. It is therefore necessary to create an eclectic model of education for deaf and hard of hearing people which would allow for the ethical option to integrate the conflicting approaches on the proper procedure for deciding on the language (spoken or signed) and the culture (the hearing or the Deaf one) for the development of deaf and hard of hearing students with cochlear implants or hearing aids.

    Social comparisons, seeing oneself in relation to others, are universal, common, and perhaps even necessary. In a study of parents of deaf children, intense, open, and mutual examinations were voiced in parental groups, meetings between parents and professionals, and interviews. These comparisons were generated in a specific situation created by successful claims for separate milieus advocated by the Deaf movement. The local culture, “the deaf world,” was characterized by close proximity and a highly charged ideological moral climate. With the central argument that strong integration breeds comparisons and examinations, we conclude that the integration of parents creates a situation perfect for drawing comparisons, creating not only cohesion, but also renewed separatist distinctions, expressed in terms of moral examinations, competition and envy. Studying the content and details of comparisons in any given field makes the particular morality that is bred, fed, and elaborated obvious.

    The article attempts to approach the subject of making culture accessible for people with hearing impairment from the perspective including social, cultural and linguistic issues. The most important matters discussed in the first part of the article are: history of the sign language and the Deaf culture in Poland as well as ambiguities related to communication methods, i.e. differentiating between the sign language and the manual code for spoken language. Based upon the considerations above, the following issues are presented: the role of a sign language interpreter in the process of making culture accessible, and the role of Polish language as an uncertain medium of conveying information to people with hearing impairment. In the article, theoretical considerations alternate with practical guidelines and solutions, which might facilitate the process of creating an offer for this particular type of museum visitor. The concluding part contains a list of the most interesting projects being conducted in Poland, which might be valuable as an inspiration for beginners in organising events dedicated to the deaf and hard of hearing people.
    Artykuł jest próbą ujęcia tematu udostępniania kultury osobom z niepełnosprawnością narządu słuchu, z perspektywy uwzględniającej kwestie społeczne, językowe oraz kulturowe. Najważniejsze zagadnienia zaprezentowane w pierwszej części to: historia języka migowego i kultury Głuchych w Polsce oraz niejasności związane z rozróżnianiem metod komunikacji na dwa sposoby: język migowy i język migany. Na podstawie tych rozważań w artykule omówione zostały kolejne zagadnienia: rola tłumacza języka migowego w procesie udostępniania kultury oraz rola języka polskiego jako niepewnego medium przekazywania informacji osobom z niepełnosprawnością słuchu. Warstwa teoretyczna tekstu jest przeplatana praktycznymi wskazówkami i rozwiązaniami, które mogą ułatwić projektowanie oferty muzeów dla tego konkretnego typu gościa. W podsumowaniu artykułu znajduje się wykaz najciekawszych realizowanych w Polsce projektów, mogących stanowić cenną inspirację dla osób, które stawiają pierwsze kroki w organizowaniu wydarzeń dla ludzi niesłyszących i słabosłyszących.

    Among Polish language users, the numerous phrases used to describe both people with disabilities and deaf people are often meaningless. However, not everyone realizes that some of the terms used turn out to be very hurtful for the deaf people. However, to know the reason why some terms turn out that way, it is essential to know the community and the rules that govern it. The article emphasizes the importance of being aware of Deaf Culture, a cursory knowledge of which is necessary to understand the issues addressed in the text.
    Wśród użytkowników języka polskiego liczne sformułowania określające zarówno osoby z niepełnosprawnościami, jak i osoby niesłyszące, okazują się często bez znaczenia. Nie wszyscy jednak zdają sobie sprawę z tego, że niektóre z wykorzystywanych określeń mogą być dla społeczności osób niesłyszących bardzo krzywdzące. Aby jednak dostrzec powody, dla których pewne określenia tak są odbierane, niezbędne jest poznanie tej społeczności i zasad, jakie w niej panują. W artykule podkreślono, jak ważna jest świadomość istnienia Kultury Głuchych, której pobieżna znajomość jest niezbędna do tego, aby zrozumieć problematykę podejmowaną w tekście.
