The overall objective of the IDEAS project is to develop advanced packaging for power supply components and new generation memory systems applicable to Electric and ICE propelled vehicles, with paying attention to considering also the aspects that have not been addressed yet in the running ENIAC and ARTEMIS Automotive projects. A major challenge related to electronic devices in the automotive applications is the reliability of power supply systems which must be capable to assure the functionality of subsystems in all operating conditions, inclusive of ageing. The control systems, which rely on multicore microcontrollers and complex software architectures, require increasingly stringent constraints from the memory devices which need to be designed for very high bandwidth, speed and reliability. In the following thesis, a few aspects of the IDEAS project will be presented: a review of important factors that affect the reliability and life-cycle endurance of NAND flash memories, multispeed gear application in electric drives and its influence on the energy efficiency. The problem of electromagnetic compatibility of electronic devices will also be dealt with in the paper

Wykłady z napędu elektrycznego oraz prostowników na Wydziale Elektrycznym znalazły się już w pierwszym opublikowanym Programie Politechniki Śląskiej na rok akademicki 1946/47. W pierwszej części artykułu przedstawiono usytuowanie napędu elektrycznego w programach studiów w pierwszym okresie funkcjonowania Wydziału. Przedstawiono także sylwetki wykładowców napędu elektrycznego w tym okresie, profesorów Jana Obrąpalskiego, Zygmunta Gogolewskiego, Jerzego Siwińskiego. W drugiej części przedstawiono historię Katedry Energoelektroniki, Napędu Elektrycznego i Robotyki, oraz omówiono wpływ profesora Zygmunta Kuczewskiego na wytyczenie kierunków badań i dydaktykę w zakresie napędu elektrycznego i energoelektroniki.
Lectures on electric drive and rectifiers were already included in the first published curriculum at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology for the 1946/47 academic year. The first part of the article presents the positioning of the electric drive in the study programs and the thematic scope of the lectures on drive in the first period of the existence of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Also presented are the profiles of the lecturers of the electric drive in that period, professors Jan Obrąpalski, Zygmunt Gogolewski, Jerzy Siwiński. The second part presents the history of the Department of Power Electronics, Electric Drive and Robotics, as well as the influence of Professor Zygmunt Kuczewski on setting directions and on the development of research and teaching activities in the field of electric drives and power electronics. The development of some of the research and teaching laboratories established at that time were characterized. The last part of the article briefly discusses the subject of research conducted by the employees of the Department and the development of the teaching base in the last 30 years.

In this contribution, a technique of axial centering of cast-iron moulds, e.g. the so-called “rail system” as suggested by KonCAD CZ s.r.o. for the application of horizontal centrifugal metal casting process, is described, evaluated, and finally not recommended for practical use. The proposed principle of the axial centering technique is based on the fact that on the cast-iron mould external perimeter there are welded, perpendicularly to the cast-iron longitudi-nal centreline, two rings the external shape of which is similar to the shape of the Vignole (flat-bottomed) rail. The cast-iron moulds are supported by two pairs of opposite conic roll-ers. The cast-iron mould is driven by a contact power transmission, i.e. by the friction meth-od employing a pair of conic rollers and acting over the welded rings to the cast-iron mould. The circumferential force transfer is carried out by the friction between the cast-iron mould rings and the two driving rollers. Both driving and driven rollers have similar shapes analo-gous to a tyred wheel profile. The two driving rollers are tightly fit on the common drive shaft, the centreline of which runs in parallel with the cast-iron mould longitudinal centre-line. Both driving and driven rollers have a similar shape as a tyred wheel profile. The neces-sity of creating of a sufficient thrust force of the cast-iron mould against the rollers causes wear conditions at the rounding of external shapes of rings, bearings, as well as roller con-tact conic surfaces.

Modern production strategies increase the demand for closer monitoring of the machine's condition. Especially wear affects its condition. This paper deals with the methodology of condition monitoring that can be based on different sources of data such as controller NC CNC and additional sensors. Two main methods for assessment are signal analysis based exclusively on measurement data and a model based method The latter is based on comparing the simulation of the objects behaviour with the acquired data. Ball screw drives are key elements of machine tools. They considerably contribute to the machine's performance. The paper compares two signal-based wear inducing characteristics and discusses the results. Afterwards a model-based approach is discussed.

This paper presents an analysis of environmental and technical conditions necessary for working out a possibly most favourable propulsion system for a two – segment passenger ship intended for navigation between Berlin and Kaliningrad. There are presented various types of propulsion systems for small ships as well as analyzed their possible applications and consequences. In this work there were taken into account system’s reliability, efficiency, dimensions, mass and costs of manufacturing, assembling and possible replacing the system components as well as an impact on maneuverability and natural environment. With taking into account the above mentioned criteria it was finally found that the diesel-hydraulic system fitted with two azimuthal ducted solid propellers is the most favourable. There are also presented a schematic propulsion and control diagram, three-dimensional arrangement drawing of system components as well as assembly drawing of the designed azimuthal propulsion system.

Year-after-year increasing number and size of sea-going passenger ships make it necessary to search for novel methods of evacuation of passengers from such large objects or to improve those which have been applied so far. This paper presents a concept of one of the original methods, in which, a.o., chain lifts have been applied to hold up life boats during voyage as well as to launch them in case of evacuation. Technical assumptions and requirements as well as schematic diagram of the hydraulic drive and control system of the lift, is presented.

This paper presents design assumptions and a constructional concept of the device for coupling the pusher and hotel barge of two-segment inland waterways and coastal ship. The presented device makes it possible to reach either stiff connection or mutually controlled inclination of both segments against each other, which greatly improves the ship’s manoeuvrability and thus safety of navigation especially on narrow and meandering waterways.

Objectives was to determine the durability of pins and sleeves used in the construction of a cycloidal gear. The methods used were based on a comparative analysis of selected macro photos of their surfaces and representative surface profiles recorded before and after the bench tests and the Ra and Rz surface roughness values determined on their basis. Before and after the bench tests, the weight of each sleeve and pin was measured, their surface profiles were recorded and micro photos of these surfaces were taken. Based on each recorded surface profile, the roughness parameters Ra and Rz were determined. The advantages of using steel sleeves in the cycloidal drive structure, increasing its durability, have been demonstrated by the low mass wear of the sleeves and the low surface roughness parameters Ra and Rz. It was shown that the appropriate accuracy of the pins and sleeves is necessary.

The idea of Industry 4.0 indicates Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) as fundamental maintenance strategies in modern factories. CBM and PdM could be implemented with use of on-line continuous monitoring and diagnostic systems and also as a program of systematic examinations of asset condition done by maintenance personnel. Using data collected from hand held instruments and from on-line systems it is possible to build full image of current asset condition and predict probable faults in the future. This paper presents system of condition monitoring and diagnosing of main drive of industrial press line. The system uses diagnostic data coming from different sources like vibration, electrical and thermal measurements. Application of different types of data makes the system hybrid and allows improve diagnostic inference process. The article describes how the system is designed and implemented.
Idea Przemysłu 4.0 wskazuje Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) oraz Predictive Maintenance (PdM) jako podstawowe strategie służb utrzymania ruchu w nowoczesnych fabrykach. CBM i PdM mogą zostać wdrożone z wykorzystaniem ciągłego monitoringu w trybie online oraz systemów diagnostycznych, a także systematycznej kontroli stanu urządzenia przeprowadzanej przez personel utrzymania ruchu. Używając danych zgromadzonych za pomocą przyrządów ręcznych, a także systemów pracujących w trybie online możliwym jest zbudowanie kompletnego obrazu aktualnego stanu urządzenia i przewidywanie potencjalnych awarii w przyszłości. Poniższa publikacja opisuje system diagnostyczny przemysłowej linii pras. System wykorzystuje dane pochodzące z różnych źródeł: drgania, natężenie prądu elektrycznego i pomiarów temperatury. Różnorodność danych sprawia, że system staje się hybrydowy, co pozwala usprawnić wnioskowanie diagnostyczne. Artykuł opisuje proces projektownia takiego systemu oraz jego implementację.

There lacks an automated decision-making method for soil conditioning of EPBM with high accuracy and efficiency that is applicable to changeable geological conditions and takes drive parameters into consideration. A hybrid method of Gradient Boosting Decision Tree (GBDT) and random forest algorithm to make decisions on soil conditioning using foam is proposed in this paper to realize automated decision-making. Relevant parameters include decision parameters (geological parameters and drive parameters) and target parameters (dosage of foam). GBDT, an efficient algorithm based on decision tree, is used to determine the weights of geological parameters, forming 3 parameters sets. Then 3 decision-making models are established using random forest, an algorithm with high accuracy based on decision tree. The optimal model is obtained by Bayesian optimization. It proves that the model has obvious advantages in accuracy compared with other methods. The model can realize real-time decision-making with high accuracy under changeable geological conditions and reduce the experiment cost.

Engines powered by compressed air as a source of propulsion are known for many years. Nevertheless, this type of drive is not commonly used. The main reason for not using commonly is the problem with the low energy density of the compressed air. They offer a number of advantages, primarily focusing on the possibility of significantly lowering the emissions of the engine. Their emissivity mainly depends on the method of obtaining compressed air. This also has an impact on the economic aspects of the drive. Currently there are only a few, ready to implement, compressed air powered engine solutions available on the market. A major advantage is the ability to convert internal combustion engines to run with compressed air. The study provides a literature review of solutions, focusing on a multifaceted analysis of pneumatic drives. Increasing vehicle approval requirements relating to their emissions performance are encouraging for the search of alternative power sources. This creates an opportunity for the development of unpopular propulsion systems, including pneumatic engines. Analysing the works of some researchers, it is possible to notice a significant increase in the efficiency of the drive, which may contribute to its popularisation.

Research and development help improve the reliability of EVs range, battery capacity, and trouble-free charging (or service). These factors affect consumers’ interest in EVs. The quality of EV use can be supported by a modern technology called Energy Assistant (EA). The task of EA is to inform the driver about the current range, the necessity to recharge the batteries, and so on to avoid a critical situation. The main aim of this article was to investigate factors and input parameters for the proposal of EA. The Edison EV designed at the University of Žilina, was used for experimental work under real conditions and in an accredited lab with MAHA equipment.

One of the approaches to solve the problem of resource and energy saving in centralized water-supply systems by reducing the total excess pressure in water-supply nodes is examined in the present work. The implementation of this approach is provided due to re-engineering of water-supplies by their zoning and optimal flux-distribution in the water-supplies. Mathematical formulations of the problems to be examined and efficient algorithms of their solving are presented.

Due to the rapid increase of using transportation machines with diesel drives in hard coal mine underground workings, the technical and operational requirements for these drives are analyzed. The ambiguity of the European Union requirements regarding the emission of exhaust gases is indicated. The planned scope of work to meet the requirements given in the Diesel Engine Directive for drives intended to be installed in mobile machines operating in mine workings in atmospheres potentially threatened by methane and/or flammable dust explosion hazards is given.
Mając na uwadze ciągły wzrost zastosowań urządzeń transportowych z napędem spalinowym w podziemiach kopalń węgla kamiennego, dokonano analizy wymagań technicznych i eksploatacyjnych ww. napędu. Wskazano na niejednoznaczność obowiązujących unijnych wymagań w zakresie emisji spalin. Przedstawiono zakres prac, jakie należy podjąć w celu spełnienia wymagań określonych w dyrektywie spalinowej dla napędów przeznaczonych do maszyn mobilnych eksploatowanych w wyrobiskach potencjalnie zagrożonych wybuchem metanu i/lub palnego pyłu.
