    In the article the author presents the history of the Diocese of Elk in the years 1992-2017. It discusses the most important issues related to this diocese, for example: organization and structure, clergy and demography, first synod of the diocese, architecture and art, church institutions, seminary, caritas, media and religious and pastoral life. Although the presented material does not ex-haust the whole of the issue, it often signals only the selected elements, it cer-tainly brings the history of the aforementioned diocese to a close.

    In 2012 the Diocese of Ełk prided itself on nine sanctuaries. During the 20 years of the diocese of the sanctuary there have been several changes. Two new sanctuaries were established: Leipzig and Elk. All paintings in the Marian sanctuaries were crowned during this time (4 images out of 6). In the 2012 schematism the names of the sanctuaries have been clarified and the division into Marian shrines and others (“other”) have been introduced.

    Dzieci wyznania katolickiego, które zamieszkiwały rozległy teren ełckiej parafii, potrzebowały odpowiedniej edukacji religijnej, dlatego miejscowy proboszcz Karol Fox postanowił, że zostanie zbudowany dom katechetyczny. Początkowo planowano zaadaptować na ten cel wystawioną na sprzedaż bursę oficerską. Zdecydowano jednak ostatecznie, że powstanie nowy obiekt. Wyznaczono działkę położoną obok starego domu parafialnego (w pobliżu obecnej ulicy Jana Kilińskiego w Ełku). Wsparcie finansowe przedsięwzięcia zadeklarowało m.in. Stowarzyszenie św. Bonifacego w Paderborn. Zarząd Główny tej organizacji podjął pod koniec 1932 r. decyzję, że. projekt architektoniczny domu katechetycznego miałby przygotować Max Sonnen. Realizację projektu zlecono Wilhelmowi Baumewerdowi. Rozpoczęcie budowy zaplanowano na lipiec 1933 roku, a zakończenie - na koniec lutego 1934. Dom katechetyczny został poświęcony 3 marca 1934 roku przez biskupa warmińskiego Maksymiliana Kallera. Sesje katechetyczne dla dzieci przygotowujących się do I Komunii św. miały się odbywać tam dwa razy w roku; odpowiedzialne za nie były siostry zakonne. Działania militarne podczas II wojny światowej położyły kres funkcjonowaniu tej placówki.
    Catholic children who lived in the vast area of the Ełk (Lyck) parish needed proper religious education, so the local parish priest Karol Fox decided that a catechetical house would be built. At first, there were plans to adapt an officers’ mess, which was put up for sale, for this purpose. However, it was decided that a special facility would be built. A plot of land located next to the old parish house (near the present Jana Kilińskiego Street in Ełk) was obtained.Financial support of the project was declared by, among others, the Boniface Association in Paderborn. The General Government of this organisation decided at the end of 1932 that the architectural design of the catechetical house would be prepared by Max Sonnen. The implementation of the project was commissioned to Wilhelm Baumewerd. The beginning of the construction works was planned for July 1933 and the completion – for the end of February 1934. The catechetical house was blessed on 3 March 1934 by Bishop Maximilian Kaller. Catechetical sessions for children preparing for the First Holy Communion were supposedto take place there twice a year; nuns were responsible for them. Military operations during World War II put an end to the functioning of this institution.

    Catholic Church instructs, that „a marriage that is ratum et consummatum can be dissolved by no human power and by no cause, except death” (Can. 1141). However there are some cases, when marriage has not come into being from its start. Church tribunals lead investigations in such cases to show the truth about the marriage. Canon 1095 gives three conditions that would make a person unable to contract marriage from mental incapacity: „They are incapable of contracting marriage: 1o who lack the sufficient use of reason; 2o who suffer from grave lack of discretion of judgment concerning essential matrimonial rights and duties which are to be mutually given and accepted; 3o who are not capable of assuming the essential obligations of matrimony due to causes of a psychic nature”. The article aims at presenting a reason for invalidity of marriage which is alcoholism as exemplified by the diocesan tribunal of Elk.

Regarding the use of reason, the Church is saying that a person must have sufficient development of their faculties of intellect and will to be able to judge and to will a truly human act. This is the most basic level of intellectual maturity, but one not found in small children, or in adults who suffer from conditions which affect their powers of reasoning. It takes a pretty grave permanent or transitory condition, however, such as schizophrenia, or alcoholic stupor, to invalidate marriage for lack of reason. The article aims at presenting a reason for invalidity of marriage which is lack of sufficient use of reason as exemplified by the diocesan tribunal of Elk.

    The Covid-19 pandemic caused changes in all areas of society, including the religious sphere. A number of activities moved to the internet. Despite the difficulties, the Church did not stop proclaiming the Good News during this time and continued much of it online in order to remain connected to the believers. In this article, the Author used the magisterial method and content analysis of websites and social media, as well as a categorisation of online pastoral work during the pandemic period. The field of analysis was the Diocese of Elk. The Author presented a case study of Y major online activities of clergy and the laity during this time. These were: charity, evangelisation, catechesis, culture, prayer, Holy Masses and religious services, Holy Scripture, retreats and news. To provide a nationwide context, he also cites quantitative nationwide studies in relation to online broadcasting of Mass and Polesʼ engagement in spiritual life during the pandemic.

    Caring about the poor and people in need has always been and should re-main the domain of the Church activity and the characteristic of a Christian. In the Diocese of Ełk, the Caritas is the main ecclesiastical institution for the as-sistance of the poor. Its mission is to provide people in difficult situations with spiritual and material assistance. The article makes a presentation of the Ełk Caritas’ establishment and legal basis, objectives and tasks, organizational structures, brief timetable, as well as of selected Caritas posts and their forms of activity. In the Ełk Church, providing charitable service has always been a current pastoral challenge. The Ełk Caritas, following Pope Francis’ call, goes to the periphery of poverty to carry the light of the Gospel there.

    This article devoted to the devotions to St. Stanislaw Papczynski in Elk is a theological-pastoral reflection not so much on the forms of these devotions but rather on discovering signs of God’s action in them. The miracles, acknowledged by the Church during the beatification and canonization of St. Stanislaw Papczynski, related to human life at its beginning and its end. It is a telltale sign for the current times, when the value of human life is questioned. Therefore, raising Fr. Stanislaw Papczynski to the glory of the altars cannot merely go down in history, it is to be a seed sown in the soil of the contempo-rary Church to still bear new fruits of mature Christian life.

    The Diocese of Ełk was established in 1992 as a major change in the structure of the Church in Poland. It connects the land belonging in the past to various forms of the Polish state and the German state, as well as the Russian state. As a result of these conditions, the parishes of the Roman Catholic Church in this area have arisen in different circumstances and have distinct traditions. Parishes are currently experiencing similar problems. Within the Diocese of Ełk there was an increase in the number of parishes and the process of unifying the way they functioned.

    Opis:
    Caritas of Elk Diocese celebrates the 25th anniversary of its activity. From the beginning it helps in a material and spiritual way to the poor and to those who are in need. Caritas runs many specialist units. Caritas takes care of the development of Caritas units in schools and in parishes in its diocese. Spiritual-ity biased on faith is what distinguish Caritas from other nongovernmental or-ganizations that bring help to different social groups like: poor, sick, elderly, orphans, homeless, unemployed and socially excluded because of their poverty. The main motive for Caritas’ activities is servant to the poor people in the same way we would do it to the Christ. Reference to the Christ, imitation of Christ’s example, his respect for poor people and to the spirit of solidarity and brother-hood with poor are the main points of reference in spiritual formation of Cari-tas’ employees and volunteers. Caritas of Elk Diocese takes care of ecclesial identity in its works of mer-cy. Caritas takes care not only of material and spiritual forms of help but also about christian character of its activities. This article talks about basic spirituality of Caritas, mainly the need of religious and moral formation of employees and volunteers who works for Caritas in Elk. In reference to the latest states of popes it was shown the evan-gelic sources of Caritas’ spirituality, moral imperative of the responsibility for poor and attributes of the church’s charitable activity such as: unselfishness, respect for the human’s dignity and its rights, gratefulness and solidarity.

    Kapituła Katedralna Elbląska została utworzona 25 listopada 1992 r. Instalacja kanoników miała miejsce dopiero 25 marca 1993 r. Artukuł prezentuje ćwierćwiecze tej kapituły na tle dziejów kapituł katedralnych i kolegiackich w regionie Polski północno-wschodniej (matropolia gdańska i warmińska). Wiele miejsca poświęcono liczebności kapituł i wykształceniu kanoników.
    The Cathedral Chapter in Elbląg was established on the 25th November 1992. The installation of canons did not take place until 25th March 1993. The article presents the quarter-century of this chapter against the history of cathedral and collegiate chapters in the North-Eastern Poland region (Gdańsk and the metropolis of Warmia). Much space was devoted tothe numerous chapters and to the education of canons.
